It was my first time visiting San Francisco and also my first time exploring Chinatown. We were looking for a good meal in town late at night, and this was one of the only places still open. Honestly, I'm so glad we decided to come in! From the moment we walked in, all of the staff were incredibly friendly, patient, and attentive. They made us feel so welcomed, especially as first-time visitors to the area. The food was AMAZING! fresh, flavorful, comforting, and exactly what we needed after a long day. I pass by this so many times while going on the 280 freeway and was always curious about this place. I ordered online because parking is just awlful in this area and got the bun bo hue. My impression of the place was that is small like mom and pop with a Very small menu selection. Perfect if you live in the area but picking up food is sort of a nightmare with all of the construction and one way street. The food was good. The Bun Bo Hue broth is on fire. It's really intense and rich and the level of spicy made my nose runny. My only complaint is that there was very little noodle. Since I ordered take out, I made more rice noodle at home. Normally adding more noodle waters down the soup but it was okay because the soup was so rich and intense. The lemongrass and spices were strong that I made enough noodle and turned it into 2 meals, one for my husband. My husband who can't handle spicy thought that the flavor was very good. They did put a good amount of meat inside. As other has already mentioned, they use the regular pho noodles and there is no pork leg and blood cube which I don't mind too much. I would highly recommend this version as well and I felt that it tasted very authentic. I am obsessed with Vietnamese noodle soup and eat it once a week. The only reason I removed one star was because of the portion size for $23 is a little steep. I stumbled into Pho De Nguyen when I was out on Jury Duty, having looked up locations around the area, only to find other restaurants being ghost kitchens. Pho de Nguyen was right on the corner, and of course, I had to stop by. The ambience of the place was pretty busy; you can imagine a bunch of jurors coming out for Lunch and waiting to grab a meal before heading back in. I was lucky to get in before a large rush and was seated quickly. They have a good amount of seating, including a large table for folks who don't mind that shared customer experience. I had a seat by the window and wish I had chosen the shared table as it was away from the sun, but I was already committed! I checked out the menu and there was a lot of selections to choose from, and I was heavily debating about the Pho that my friend who lives nearby grabs all the time, but me being a fan of broken rice, I had to go for the Com Tam over beef, aka Broken rice over beef along with a Vietnamese coffee, because damn, I was falling asleep that day. The food came out after about 10 minutes, and wow, did it look good! I forgot to take a photo of the Vietnamese coffee because I downed it so quickly, but it matched the ones that I normally get when I go to San Jose! I poured a good amount of fish sauce over the rice, beef, vegetables, and fried Cha Gio (Spring rolls), and damn, was it good. There aren't that many places outside of San Jose that I come to around San Francisco for a rice plate, but this will be another one I add when I'm in the area and craving Vietnamese. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, the Cha Gio was piping hot and crunchy, and I just scarfed it down. First time eater but a long time lurker. I wandered in after dying to have some pho since I feel under the weather. I finally went today and here's my honest review Food: $4 for an 8 FL oz coke and $19 bowl of pho. The pho does photograph well and looks very appetizing. There's more broth and noods than does meat. Broth is flavorful, briny, and does the job. I got their spicy pho beef and pork soup. It's spicy so don't get it if your spice level is less than one chilli pepper. You'll sweat through all your crevasse and cry! If you're a spice champ then this would be a good pho to get. I wouldn't say it's going to be my new go to spot but if I ever found myself needing emergency pho, this place does the job. Ambiance: the layout reminds me of Turtle Tower which was here before this place came in. The music on the speaker is super loud and blasting viet pop. It's fine if you don't mind it but it can be distracting if you're trying to have a cute date with someone or yourself. The got artwork everywhere and honestly it adds the charms. I was curious what became of the former Turtle Tower space on 6th and Bryant since they moved to California Street to become a pricier version of itself (review: https://yelp.to/4OlUZUDKyn). This San Bruno-based pho shop decided to move in, and I thought there might be a chance that I could get the chicken giblet pho I was craving. Fat chance. They serve chicken pho but no signs of innards. I got here at a less than ideal time. A large work party dominated the space, and the only seat available was a narrow counter facing the wall. I felt like I was being punished by my homeroom teacher. Feeling frisky, I decided to order the $23 Ox Tail Pho, which was definitely on the higher end of the menu. The bowl arrived completely filled to the rim with scorching hot broth (Photo 6). Spillage was inevitable and when the too-hot-to-touch bones slid off my chopsticks, big splashes occurred. Why they didn't offer a plate for the discarded bones, I don't know. I used what was left of my raggedy napkin as my own boneyard. The ox tails were not as fall-off-the-bone tender as I was hoping, but they were tasty enough. The broth lacked richness but not flavor. I missed my giblets though. Came late to this establishment as I was craving pho and all of the other nearby Vietnamese restaurants were closed. Not sure if this is the regular playlist, but we came around 9pm and they were bumping loud EDM! I'm not mad about it, felt like I was at a rave (can I check this one off my bucket list?). Ordering is easy via qr code at the tables and you can also order online or via a kiosk to-go. Came on a Wednesday night for a casual dinner and ordered the bun bo hue with a variety of beef cuts. Loved the spicy and rich broth which had such great flavor and a nice spicy kick. The meat was tender and came in a fairly large portion. You can also choose between thin, flat, and vermicelli noodles. I got the flat noodles which were perfect for soaking up the soup and I liked the side of bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos and red cabbage that came along with the noodle soup. I'll have to come by to try the beef and chicken pho as well but overall excited to have this spot in the neighborhood. Even though they are currently in their soft opening phase, the team works together smoothly to keep everything running well. Ordering is very easy, whether you choose to order in person, use the kiosk near the door, or scan the QR code to order by phone. The menu is simple but offers a great variety. My go-to items so far are the pho and the crab rangoons. Both are consistently delicious. The wings are also excellent, especially if you get them with the "sticky" option. What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and down-to-earth. On one visit, the main chef even came out to greet the guests once the place quieted down. He asked for feedback and just wanted to connect with everyone, which I really appreciated. Parking is metered right in front, but a helpful tip is to go around to Bryant Street, where there is two-hour free parking available. You go in and seat yourself and order by scanning the QR code on the table. We order 2 bowls of pho and an order of chicken wings. They only brought out one bowl of pho and the wings and forgot the other bowl. It was not busy at all but the workers were definitely having a good time chatting it up in the back and did not realize we were missing something until we went up to the counter. I feel so fortunate to have been brought here by a local friend to try this restaurant, and if you're lucky enough to live close to this place, I am extremely jealous! There are a lot of shops that serve Vietnamese food, but this one clearly has heart. The owner proudly walks the dining room connecting with customers and sharing what makes his cuisine so unique it's rare but so appreciated because as an American, I admittedly don't know that much about the Vietnamese repertoire, but I love nothing more than learning about it from those who are passionate and from the country of origin. This location is the second and it was clearly already popular with regular's flowing through the door one by one for the entire time I dined. I had the opportunity to speak with the Chef and owner while ordering and he happily told me all about the dishes on the menu and guided me towards the bun bo hue, and of course I had to have the version with house roasted duck. What he left out in his description was that this was the classic lemon grass heavy spicy Vietnamese soup loaded with oxtail and other cuts of beef plus the Vietnamese meatloaf, Cha lua, AND a side plate filled with absolutely incredible roast duck. It was like eating two meals in one and boy did I feel full at the end of it, but I had absolutely no regrets. I noticed that the noodles were thinner than those I've had in versions elsewhere, and when I asked Chef the question, he was ready with the answer. His version includes the noodles that are traditional and the namesake in this dish a.k.a. Bun, the thin rice noodle. I'm still thinking about the soup right now as I write this review and I wish I could go get a bowl. Sadly, I'll have to settle for a mediocre version here at home and hope that I get back to San Francisco to have more of this soon. read more

I came in on a Tuesday at 2:50pm. Since this was after the lunch rush so there were only a few diners. The seating seemed to have been reduced compared to the previous 2 restaurants that were there, (Papaya Island and Turtle Tower). I met with the owner who was kind and enthusiastic. We appreciated the complimentary imperial rolls which were stuffed with taro and bits of ground pork. Right now until July 1st, 2025 between 10am and 3pm, everything on the menu is 50% off. Their mains are $17-$20 so with this deal, it's a steal during lunch. Also, if you are a police officer or work for SFMTA, you get 50% off your bill and if you live near by you get 25% off, just show your ID, so I'm told by the owner. We had ordered the salt and pepper wings, beef dry vermicelli noodle and Bun Bo Hue to eat there and a duck pho and pork dry vermicelli noodle to go. The BBH was our favorite item. The meat portion was generous and the flavor was authentic. Yes, they use thin vermicelli noodles and this was told to us when we ordered. It doesn't affect the taste at all, it was one of the best BBH I've ever had. Sadly the beef in the dry vermicelli was chewy. It just needed to be a bit more tenderized. The pork version was better but I would have liked a bit more herbs and veggies for my to go order. The egg roll is on the smaller side compared to similar restaurants and when we dined in, it had more wrapper than filling compared to my to go order, so there's some inconsistency. I'd suggest replacing the nuoc cham bottle with something with a pour spout as the bottle was pretty sticky when handled. The wings were good. You get 8pcs of all flat wings. The owner's wife is Chinese so there's some Chinese items on the menu like crab Rangoon and wontons in chili oil. The duck pho reminds me of Papaya Island's. The broth is chicken based and the duck was roasted well. The rice noodles is the fresh kind which I really like. Instead of a live person I got an AI voice chat operator. Weird to say the least. Finally was able to order and pick up my food. I ordered oxtail pho and fresh spring rolls. Got home, ready to eat, and I noticed the meat looked and smelled old. Threw the oxtail away. The thin noodles I ordered with the pho were still a bit hard. They needed another 2-3 or 4 minutes to be soft enough to eat. The broth wasn't hot enough even after I reheated it to soften the noodles. The spring rolls were not giving fresh at all. I drank a few sips of broth, and threw the entire meal away. Money and time wasted. I really wanted to like this hole in the wall, but to claim to be best Pho in the Bay is a stretch. read more

Honestly, all their noodle soups are really good. I know this place because of their San Bruno location, which I love, and this location is just as good. Prices have gone up a bit over time, but the quality is still there. If you're going to try one thing, get the oxtail pho. This was my first time at this location, and I came super late at night (around 2 AM). I really appreciate that they're open this late -- you don't find many spots like that anymore. Even at that hour, the service was friendly and welcoming, which I really appreciated. They were out of the sugar cane drink when I came (late-night timing), but I know how good it is from the San Bruno location. Here's thing, if I crave a hot soup on a HOT day then it must be that good. I went to this place in back to back days and ordered their Chicken Pho and I'll tell you, the broth is killer. I took the chance because from experience, chicken pho broth always seems to watery but this kept its flavorful taste and so refreshing. Chicken pho: 10/10 Also garlic noodles oh my goodness. 10/10 not too heavy and not too acidic. Amazing balance of flavor and satisfaction! Service and vibes here are very homey. 10/10 They seat you comfortably as soon as you get in and ordering is QR code online so it's very easy and straight forward. Friendly staff and great food. The beefy pho combo was so flavorful and the sticky chicken wings are also very tasty. I've also had their spring rolls and salt and pepper wings which are all great choices. If you want noodles I highly recommend the garlic noodles! read more

This review is LONG overdue but still so relevant. I've been going to their San Bruno spot got almost 10 years & have loved this place from the very beginning. I want to start by saying I don't eat beef or duck, so I'm strictly a chicken pho and shrimp egg roll girl. Sometimes I'll do garlic noodles or the chicken teriyaki(RIP), but chicken pho is my go-to everywhere I go. And let me tell you, this is HANDS DOWN the best chicken pho I've found in the entire Bay Area. As someone who has tried a lot of chicken pho, their broth is unmatched. A lot of places taste like someone boiled chicken in water and called it a day. Others use beef broth and just throw chicken in there. But finding a spot that actually makes a real chicken broth that's this flavorful? Nearly impossible. I'm so grateful both locations are close to my home and my job because I crave this often. What I love most is the ratio cos they don't drown you in noodles with barely any broth or chicken (which happens way too often). Everything is balanced perfectly. You can truly taste the love and time that went into the broth because the flavor is so rich and comforting. The shrimp egg rolls are super fresh and crispy, and the dipping sauce is absolutely delicious. Some of the San Bruno staff now work at the SF location too, so it was really nice seeing familiar friendly faces when I stopped by. If you're thinking about trying this place, do it.
