Ever since the BF and I had the best chicken pho of our lives for breakfast from a street vendor in Hanoi, Vietnam, we've been obsessed with finding the best pho ga in LA. I hadn't really ever given chicken pho much consideration, I'd been all about the beef! I've tried both the bone-in and boneless pho here and prefer the boneless for ease of eating, and don't think and flavor was lost. Pho Ga District is very clean, friendly, quick service, never too packed. It's worth the drive for me, considering there are probably 100 closer pho restaurants to me. My go-to spot for chicken rice! This place is hands down for my favorite hainam chicken. Meat is juicy and delicious. Excellent service! What I love most is the Gizzards plate. Now that I have been here more than once, I can write my honest review of Pho Ga District. This isn't your traditional Vietnamese pho place; in fact, I was happily surprised to hear Cantonese being spoken (and was told majority of the clientele that frequent this restaurant are Cantonese, so that may explain why I enjoy the flavors of their dishes over other pho spots!) Last week I had lunch with my friend and ordered the Pho Ga with medium rice noodles and an iced Vietnamese coffee. Today, I brought my 'rents and SO to have brunch and we ordered a variety of dishes (photos shown). Everything tasted great, and I especially enjoyed my Hainan Chicken Rice, hot Vietnamese coffee and the Chicken Innards. The restaurant also has the most flavorful ginger sauce that is at the table so you can consume however much your heart (and tastebuds) desire. Service was above average for an Asian restaurant, super friendly and patient with my 'rents, who are older and were able to speak in their native tongue with the waiter who served us today. Only negative is parking is not the easiest in the teeny tiny lot, but on a Sunday my SO did find street parking. Surprisingly good. It was difficult to find the parking in front of the restaurant but more parking at the side street of the restaurant. The specialty the have is chicken noodles. But I got the beef noodle soup. I was inform when I order the beef the server informed me that their specialty is the chicken so soup base will be chicken soup base. Surprisingly it a good contrast,I can taste the beef and it flavorful. Rice noodle is cook just right. Not to hard nor to soft. The beans sprout blanched so we know it clean. I went in with high hopes after reading their reviews and left disappointed. The food is fine and none of the food stood out as bad or good but this place is overrated with 4.5 stars. They have a really limited menu with few choices and when I was there they were out of Hainan-flavored rice for the day, making my choices even more limited. Their eggrolls were average and I didn't care for the chicken pho. The flavor of the broth was overly potent with a strong chicken flavor. One thing I did like was that you can choose boneless or bone-in chicken in the pho. Their service was good. The workers spoke English well and they were very attentive and accommodating. Great place to eat after a late night out ! I tried their pho ga and the broth was clean and flavorful. although, they don't have the orange sauce I'm used to eating with my pho ga, they do offer a jar of ginger sauce. I also tried their steamed rice rolls and it's probably the best I've ever had. The rice skins were so soft and fluffy. It has the perfect texture. My boyfriend has their pork chop rice, but they only had the flavored rice instead of the white rice. He said it was a weird combination to have the flavored rice mix with his fish sauce. Legit. Don't sleep on chicken pho. Growing up in sgv we always ordered pho tai. That's 20 years of missing out on this spectrum of flavors I'll never get back. Small pho shop specializing in northern style chicken pho. Seemed pretty popular, there was a short wait but people seem to eat fairly fast here. There is a waitlist on the front window where you can put your name down. -Vietnamese coffee: good, strong -Banh cuon: different style than what I've eaten before, this one is more of a round rice roll than the flat ones. Filling was good but overall just not that satisfying of a dish. Dipping sauce was bland. - Chicken pho: just okay. I got the boneless version because I'm lazy. I was a bit disappointed by this. I was looking forward to it based on the good reviews. It is a pure chicken based broth which is unadulterated but just comes off as being kind of tasteless. The chicken itself is kind of dry as well. The ratio of noodles to soup in the bowl was way off. I felt like I was eating a never ending bowl of soggy rice noodles which just got soggier as I tried to power through the bowl. I actually didn't even finish the bowl which is a first for me because I usually eat all the noodles I can get. There is a ginger dipping sauce for the chicken which was very sweet and lacked that ginger punch I was hoping for. - Duck pho: my dad got this, I tried some and it was okay. Kind of like the chicken pho but duck version. Again the meat was dry and the noodles became soggy. - Chicken innards: my parents ate this. I'm not a fan of this stuff so didn't try it. They were underwhelmed by it It was too much food for the 5 of us. We didn't finish the banh cuon and 3 of us didn't finish our noodle soup. Overall, 2.5/5. The food is really excellent here. I had been going to pho ga bac ninh which is good too but I'm excited to find another great pho ga place. I live in LA and I will definitely come back. They include 2 types of dipping sauce for the chicken: a soy sauce type and the ginger one , both very good. The broth tasted natural and rich. It comes with lots of veggies and herbs and lemon, all chopped up and ready to go. I added my own garden-grown jalapeños which I sliced up for extra kick. I also got the bun cuon and it was so good too - the wrap is springy and thin, and the filing is tasty and plentiful. There was the perfect amount of veggies and cha lua. The nuoc mam was good too. All three different staff members, runners, waiter were friendly. It's great to see a small business with a high level of food. We ordered chicken, chicken gizzard (they had run out but asked if we could wait a little), a small noodle soup, and he pork loaf slices w rice rolls. The unsweetened iced tea was free. My go to for chicken pho. Love that they give a good amount of chicken in the pho and they're consistent almost all the time. Their egg rolls aren't so bad either. This place is a cute little gem in strip mall on San Gabriel Blvd. The menu is fairly simple with a few appetizer, rice plates, and noodles in each category. We shared the egg rolls and bahn cuon which were both very good. The rice paper wrapper on the bahn cuon were soft and fresh. The ground meat and mushroom inside also tasted delicious. The "white" meat or bologna on the side was just okay. The egg rolls were fried perfectly and served with fresh lettuce and cilantro. I ordered the duck and bamboo pho, which I haven't seen in other Vietnamese restaurants. The soup was a simple chicken broth, however the canned bamboo's flavor was very overpowering. This is the best place for chicken noodle soup and Vietnamese style papaya salad! Location: in a pretty busy plaza on San Gabriel just north of Garvey. The location is very convenient, but parking can be hard to find. There are two parking spots specifically for Pho Ga District customers, and a few others open to any other customers in the plaza. There is also parking on the street as well. Hours: They are open 7 days per week from 9am to 8pm. They are super busy on the weekend starting at 11am, but they turn over their tables quick so you don't have to wait long for a table. Food: The chicken noodle soup is the best! The broth is so flavorful without being too salty. The chicken is also so fresh and moist. The beef papaya salad is another one of their best dishes and goes perfectly with the chicken noodle soup. I was really looking forward to eating at this place but alas, it disappointed. Located in the corner of a tiny strip mall this small Chinese run Vietnamese restaurant was mediocre at best. Here's a rundown of the food we ordered: -Chicken hainam: the chicken was COLD, not even in the room temp way, more like they just pulled the chicken out of the frig and tossed it over some room temp rice. The chicken was also full of bones and be careful with the tiny chips of bone that are inevitably in your dish. It wasn't very appetizing. On top of that chicken portion size was tiny. The ginger sauce they just leave sitting out on the table all day long and it wasn't very memorable. The rice should imho ideally be cooked in chicken broth and ginger to add a little bit of flavor but I'm not sure if they did this as theirs was rather bland. Save your money and go to Savoy for this one. -Pho ga: the broth here didn't have the right spices used in traditional pho and it was glaringly apparent as the flavor wasn't all there, the noodles were actually ok but i prefer them thinner like most other restaurants serve them. The chicken here is also rather haphazardly prepared as they simply chop through the bones of the chicken and toss the whole thing in, bone chips and all. I constantly found my self gnawing to get to the meat and picking pieces of bone out of my mouth. -Banh cuon: pretty unmemorable as well. Nothing really attracted me to this dish. Just too plain and not super flavorful. I probably won't be back. There's just too much good food out there tbh. read more
