3.5 stars I think this might be my second time eating here. The first time I tried this restaurant was maybe back in 2021, when we had a family friend in town. I don't remember what we ordered that time, but I do remember that nothing has changed. It is still a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant. My mom thinks it's a Chiu Chow restaurant, but there's Vietnamese translation, so it could mixed. We're not sure. This time, these are what my mom and I ordered: Shaken Beef w/ Red Rice ($18.95): if you like your steak at medium rare, this place does a decent shaken beef. Personally, I took most of the beef home to cook again b/c I do prefer it medium-well/well-done. Otherwise, the beef was tasty and the red rice was satisfying. Portion was huge. 4/5 stars House Chow Fun ($16.95): Mom ordered the wet version. It came with beef, chicken, shrimp, canned mushrooms, bean sprouts, and some greens. It is tasty fresh, but it does get soggy if you got leftovers to take home. 3.5/5 stars Free parking on site, but parking is small and limited. If you're normally a solo diner, there is a good chance you'll be sharing a table with other solo diners during lunch/dinner rushes. I thought it was good and would definitely come back. We came here for lunch on a weekday to get our Teochew/Chiu Chow noodles fix. We haven't been here since the pandemic. The restaurant used to be Kim Lee before they rebranded. The interior is small and looks old but decently clean. This is a casual noodle eatery spot for the locals. Reasonable price with generous portions. Staffs were warm, friendly, and efficient. The waitress gave us extra soup to go with our leftovers. We usually get the house special rice noodle soup. The soup broth is light and flavorful. It comes with a lot of toppings; shrimps, fish cakes, fish balls, chicken, kidney, and ground pork. There's different types of noodles that you can choose from. Decided to try this place on a Sunday early afternoon because it was closer than Kim Ky/Kee. Upon arrival didn't have a long line compared to the other restaurants. Was able to get seated pretty quickly within 10 minutes. The interior of this restaurant is on the small side, probably seats from 30-40 people. The tables were really close together and felt a little cramped. Food was amazing, I would say it's definitely on par with the other Teochew noodles spots. Each place has their own thing that they're really good at. At Sam's it's definitely the flavor and portion size. For someone who eats a heavy portion of food, the service size here is very generous. They also give a lot more toppings than the other spots. Flavor of their satay sauce was amazing and it was actually spicy. Service was quick and the ladies kept refilling our ice teas without having to ask. Cash only place so make sure you bring some. read more

I feel like this restraunt is such an underrated gem. my family comes here every weekend to get the bo luc lac (lol we get 3 orders each time) and every time we come it always hits. the portions are HUGE, comes with a soup, tomato rice, and beef cubes. The beef cubes are so tasty and so soft and tender, they quite literally melt in your mouth. omg and the rice is actually so yum. I was in Gardena this afternoon and at first I wanted ribeye steak, then Vietnamese pho and then the pork kidney noodles that I haven't had for awhile so i yelp it in Alhambra because I needed to buy some things close by. From ribeye steak to pork kidney noodles, haha that's funny. Anyway, there were a couple of places that had them but they closed early and this is the only place that is open till 7 pm, when I first walked in, there was nobody inside besides the lady owner sitting at the table and she spoke Cantonese, Mandarin and English. First I spoke Cantonese but then she said something I didn't understand so we spoke English lol. I want the pork kidney noodles with some extra pork kidneys, I didn't know it was one big plate of it. I got the noodles with rice noodles, I don't like the yellow egg noodles. It was good, the broth was lite and refreshing, I think is a chicken broth, I could be wrong. There's only 1 pieces of pork kidney in the whole bowl and it was tough like it was cooked too long and it got chewy. There was a couple of shrimp, some chicken breast pieces and minced pork with beans sprouts. I felt like it was missing something because I had it before at another restaurant. The taste was a little different but still satisfying. The pork kidney strips were great but is a little too oily. There was some cut up lettuce on the bottom of the dish and some ginger with scallions on top of the sliced pork kidneys, I think it was oily because it was poured on top with the soy sauce, is a good flavor but still too oily for me. It reminds me of the days when I would chopped the cabbage and cooked it with garlic and soy sauce with lots of oil, it makes a good side dish when you're poor and living in Santa Monica by the beach lol. The lady was really nice and she doesn't come over to check up on you but is a small restaurant, is ok. Then it got busy, a couple of people came in and she got a couple of to go orders. A super great option to Kim Ky or Kim Tar. Wonderful hole in the wall that serves Chiu Chow Noodles. The wait goes by uber fast; I promise. Patrons eat and leave. They know the drill. Most patrons (probably 85-90%) that was there were regulars. You can tell because they don't need to read the menu and/or Boss Lady remembers their order. Boss Lady has impressive memory and super efficient. The noodles come out quick and hot. The only thing I would do differently on my next visit would be to skip the 'dry' noodle option. Tried this place for the first time a few weeks ago and must say that it's my new favorite restaurant for Chiu Chow style dry noodles. I think the quality and taste of the food is better than Kim Ky and Macky's. Go-to order is definitely the House Special since it includes all the good stuff (chicken, pork, minced pork, kidney, fish balls, shrimp) with egg noodle. Parking can be difficult coz they have many businesses in the plaza. We both ordered their #1 House Special Rice Noodles, and I picked the mixed noodle with round yellow noodles and rice vermicelli. It had 3 shrimps, some fish balls, chicken meat, pork kidney, etc. It's similar to Kim Ky, but the food quality was not as good as Kim Ky's, and their soup broth was not as flavorful. This is still a go-to stop whenever I visit California. The service is so wonderful. When we were there to dine, they were offering a special where you buy four dishes and you get one for free. The green tea iced was free as well. Just so many great deals when you go during the lunch hour. It's a small restaurant but there's plenty of seating. I ordered the house special noodles with thick egg noodles and it was pretty good! There is a variety of noodles you can select with your order. Size wise, the house special order came with alot of noodles and meat/shrimp. My uncle detected a big of MSG in our orders which I personally did not mind. Although the kidney side order wasn't too flavorful, I enjoyed it. The kidneys was perfectly cooked and came with plenty of chili, ginger and green onions which paired well. Service wise, our waiter was a kind man who spoke English and Chinese. The waitress on the otherhand was a bit rude. There was a miscommunication between us and her attitude was just very off putting (The miscommunication wasn't even my fault, she was at fault). Parking can get super packed here during lunch hours so I would recommend parking at the 168 Market lot next door and then walking over. This is one of my family's go to noodle restaurant for Trieu Chau / Fujian noodles for many years now! They always have quick and friendly service and never disappoints with their freshly made, piping hot bowls of noodle soup. My go to dishes are the Fujian special noodle soup (with the rice vermicelli and thick egg noodles) and dry egg noodle with shrimp and kidney. We also love their fried rice flour cake with egg, which is similar to Vietnamese bot chein. The soup/broth is light and clear. They have this hot pepper condiment that is their own brand and works well with their food. If you like pork kidney, theirs are very clean, not smelly. I've always heard stories about people going to an Asian restaurant and getting yelled at or having rude encounters with the staff. Well yesterday was my lucky day! This was the first time ever that it had happen to me! Walked in with my family and the lady immediately sat us right next to another family sitting side by side. I requested to sit it he back booth where we'd be at a more comfortable distance from everyone. The staff told my family sternly and loudly that we needed to sit right there and look at the menu before fixing up that table for us. We were all taken aback like what the heck... everyone was now looking at us weirdly and I felt uncomfortable and prefer to get up and leave however my family chose to eat there. 5 minutes in and she moved us to the back booth. She was really hotheaded with us and our food came out staggering. We did not dare ask when I'd receive my meal after about 25 minutes from everyone else's food arriving. The complementary broth was good. My cousin ordered fried rice and a noodle soup dish. I ordered crispy chow mien with beef. Food was okay 4/10, and pretty pricey. Ngl I expected more, yes they speak canto and viet. I thought prices were gonna be fair but now they're somewhat expensive. Sure you get a large portion but my bowl cost $18 total after tax, and I got charged $2 more for 2 kinds of noodles. Service is fast and there are a ton of locals that come here. Parking can be a nightmare tho as I had to park at the back of the supermarket in the same plaza and walk over. Overall a decent experience and ok food. Strip mall parking is terrible, but the food is delicious. It is a homey style small noodle shop, where the kitchen staff take smoke breaks out front. I got the beef cubes with red macaroni and everything was cooked excellently, it's a bonus on how large the portions are here. You can make two meals out of it, if you aren't a hungry hippo like me. The beef was so tender and came in a generous mound. The macaroni was soft but also had good tomato flavor, you don't expect al dente when it comes to Chinese and pasta. The pan fried turnip cakes were on the greasy side but filling. Tea was weak and watered down, so I was okay with not being offered a refill.
