If you are in the SGV area and craving the comfort of pho ga (chicken pho), I highly recommend a stop at this shop. The quality of the offerings is noted first and foremost, by the limited menu. This often means that they know what they're good at and is sticking to it. The free range chicken is perfectly poached and the freshly grated ginger offered with the pairing reminds me of a purist's approach to eating poached chicken. If it's done well, you don't need much else. This isn't completely a southeast Asian version as it is served with a sweet soy sauce (with fresh chilies) rather than served with fish sauce. I highly recommend ordering a quarter chicken (for one person), a half or whole chicken for sharing and adding the Hainam rice as a side (comes with soup) or adding the plain pho bowl with fresh noodles. I have not tried anything else but at this point, I don't really need to. The staff and service is prompt and friendly and the food comes out quickly in case anyone goes in there hangry. read more

The broth here is to die for! As featured on one of the LA magazines (I can't recall which ones), the clear but flavorful chicken pho broth is definitely the star of the show at Pho Ga District. My go-to is their duck and bamboo vermicelli. Their chicken pho is of course also good, and we almost always order poached chicken to-go, as the free-range chickens here always taste so much better than what we can find in supermarkets: golden and crispy skin (though poached instead of fried), with lean but juicy meats. We generally get lucky with parking (on the side street next to the restaurant) and rarely have to wait, but since the space is on the smaller side, be prepared to wait if you visit during busier times. read more

I love me some hainan chicken. This place gets it. Their menu is simple - rice or noodle, and add some chicken with that. The chicken isn't just ANY chicken though, it's the infamous HAINAN chicken that's stewed / broiled?? I'm not sure how they cook it, but it sure tastes darn good. And of course, you gotta eat it with the ginger sauce, which is homemade. It's more watery than normal ginger sauce I'm used to, but I'm assuming it's because they grind the ginger so thin and fine all the lovely ginger juices come out. I ordered the large noodle to share with my mom and it was pleeeenty of noodles. We ordered a half chicken on the side, and that was enough for three people. The "flavor" rice was also tasty - not too salty or oily - and complements the chicken well, as did the noodles. The only thing the rice was lacking was some pickled veggies!! I usually find that restaurants have a little on the side, just to cleanse the palate a little (as if I actually know what that means). But it does add a bit more flavor than just eating everything savory and salty. We also ordered banh cuon, which was tiny and different than normal. It was good though! Very nice appetizer. Wanted to try this place out due to so many good reviews. So we placed an order for 2 of their famous chicken (1 boneless and 1 bone in) and the banh coun. We called in for the order and the person that answered the phone was amazing. She was super nice and very helpful on the different type of dishes. We requested extra sauce and to our amazement we received it when we picked up our order. There was only 2 dedicated parking spot on the plaza but we just ran in to pick it up. Once we got home the boneless looks great and the banh coun was tasty. The downside was the bone in version. Since this was the first one we ate, we forgot to take a picture but we had all the bone with hardly any meat. These felt like all the bone portion that someone didn't want. I was expecting at least a chicken quarter or a thigh or even the leg. But we end up getting all the non meat part. Very dissatisfied with this order. However the boneless and banh coun was so much better. I wouldn't say the chicken was the best, I prefer Cluck2Go instead in the DB area. But the boneless and banh coun was good. Well just like the fatass that I am, when I craved Pho Ga I ended up trying a few places and I can tell you they lived up to their name! Pho Ga District really brings it with their Pho Ga. Pho Ga District has some of the best chicken pho in the city! I am very particular about my pho ga because my mom makes THE BEST. However we went to lunch here and were both pleasantly surprised with how good it was. I have had the pho and the mien here. My preference is mien (glass noodles) because IMO it soaks up the broth and flavor so much better. But they are both good. The broth is so clean yet still flavorful. It really doesn't need anything extra. I am the type who usually puts a squirt or two of sriracha and hoisen in my pho--not needed here. The Hai Nam (chicken rice) is also noteworthy here. The ginger dipping sauce is BOMB and the chicken is perfectly cooked and juicy. Service is quite friendly also plus they have convenient parking in the strip mall. Are you craving for something warm, delicious, and good for your soul? I decided to try Pho Ga District on Monday night. I'm extremely happy to report that their Chicken Noodle Soup is legit. Broth is clear and delicious. You can choose from bone-in or boneless, dark meat or white meat, and the different types of noodles. I came in here, expecting it to be another typical pho restaurant, but it is not. The menu is fairly small and simple. I tried the pho ga and banh cuon, which are the most popular dishes and I can definitely see why. The broth is nice and does not taste full of MSG. I usually prefer to eat beef in my bowl of pho, but whenever I come here, I will always order the chicken. There's just something about the way they steam the chicken that makes it so good. A large bowl of pho is quite a big portion. A small bowl is a good portion size, but the plate of banh cuon is a much smaller portion. The dishes are the same price, but the banh cuon would not be as filling. A plate normally comes with 3 steamed rice rolls. If you want more rolls, they will add some for you at an extra charge. I'm not exactly sure how much because I didn't get a chance to look at the check, but it's not a lot. The employees are friendly. Decided to eat here a couple of weeks ago for dinner and the chicken noodle soup is mediocre. The broth had decent flavor but the chicken was bland. I regret getting the bone-in chicken option because they chicken barely had any meat on it. I should have gotten the boneless chicken option. A least with this option i know I will get some chicken meat! One of the appetizers that I order is the Banh Cuon and boy these hardly had any fillings and was very skinny in size. Whenever I can get over to Rosemead, I try to order takeout from here as much as possible. The owners are super nice and adhering to all CDC guidelines and precautions to safeguard against covid-19 -- such a relief during the pandemic. It's not common to find bun mang vit at restaurants in LA. So this is such a treat! I also love that they use wider noodles for the pho ga and do not add MSG to the broth. The second experience here was rather disappointing. We ordered a chicken rice, a duck bamboo noodle, and a banh cuon (Vietnamese rice roll with Vietnamese ham). First of all their ginger sauce was still super sweet and watery. I eat Hainan chicken rice because I love ginger sauce. I ordered a large duck bamboo noodle soup because I love bamboo, accounting to them the large would have more of everything, unfortunately I only saw a lot of noodle. They weren't generous with bamboo and duck at all. Most places give more bamboo and a whole duck leg. The banh cuon was not well made, rice roll was soggy and bland and there were countable pieces of cucumber strips, less than ten pieces for sure, it was sad. After sampling their pho ga, this place has become a regular haunt for my friends and I ever since. Food: Pho Ga: When here I highly recommend getting their pho ga [chicken pho] with medium-sized rice noodles. The pho ga at Pho Ga District is unlike that of other establishments': the noodle's texture is silky smooth, and the broth is flavorful, delicate, and harbors the natural sweetness that's imparted by the chicken. The pho ga at other Vietnamese restaurants are not nearly as good: usually the noodles break apart easily thereby signifying a lack in structural integrity [usually due to ingredients being sub-par in quality] and the texture is less smooth in comparison. The chicken broth at other places carries a strong MSG aftertaste that's unnatural, excessive, and overshadows the natural sweetness that's derived from fresh chickens. Fact: 626 is teeming with pho restaurants but finding a place that does chicken pho right is an arduous task. That's why I was so excited to come across the newly opened Pho Ga District, which specializes in all things chicken. We were pretty hungry so we ordered quite a bit starting with pho ga, an extra 1/4 steamed chicken, chicken gizzards and banh cuon. When it comes to pho ga, it all comes down to the broth and this one was just right. You could tell that it had been simmered for a long time with all the flavors and goodness you'd find in the perfect chicken broth. It was served generously with big pieces of both white and dark meat. The steamed chicken was served a bit cold and had a more velvety, gelatinous texture, but in the best way possible! And the plate of gizzards was actually a mix of different organ meats from gizzard to heart and perhaps, liver? It's nice to see that this restaurant wastes no parts of the chickens and manage to make the most out of what they specialize in. The banh cuon, though not my favorite, wasn't too bad either. I have been to Pho Ga District before and I was pretty impressed with the food and the service. The chicken broth was tasty and it didn't give me cotton mouth after the meal. For an Asian owned restaurant, it was definitely refreshing. Since I felt lazy, I decided to go with a large boneless chicken pho this time. The server told me they used medium flat noodles and asked me if that was ok. I wonder if someone has complained about it before, but just the gesture of asking was nice. When the pho came to the table, I was rather surprised. This was my first time getting it boneless and in my mind, I was thinking more of the same style with the bone in ones, only without the bones. Instead, it came with hand shredded chicken meat. The amount of the meat was probably the same, but just by looking, I felt salve girl got way more meat than me... Grrrr. Unfortunately, it was just not satisfying for me to have small pieces of chicken here and there compared to a chunk of whole meat to chew on. The major disappointment came after the meal. Remember I said my mouth was not dry after my last visit? Well, my mouth was desert dry after this time and that usually means tons of MSG in my mouth. The Goi du du bo kho ga was my favorite thing I had here. There isn't much chicken in it, but the sauce was tasty and salad was fresh. Pho ga had a really good broth. I wish I had asked for dark meat only and see if they would accommodate. It came with blanched bean sprouts. My husband had the pork chop plate which was okay, but definitely do not expect the traditional broken rice dish if that's what you're looking for. It didn't come with The ngoc mum sauce. They have all the condiments on the table, which is great, but the ginger sauce is what I'm used to at other pho ha/hainam chicken places. Overall, good, but prices are slightly higher than the other Vietnamese restaurants around. Parking is terrible here and your best bet is to park on San Gabriel blvd and walk half a block. This family owned shop have been open for just a few months as of the date of this review - had a sister date on a slow weeknight. They specialize in chicken pho, and I LOVED that their menu fit on a laminated half sheet of paper. Shows me they focus their time and energy to perfect a few dishes as opposed to being mediocre on a bunch of offerings. I had the pho ga (chicken pho, bone-in) and my sister the pho dac biet (medium rare beef and beef ball pho), and we shared a banh cuon, which is steamed rice rolls filled with shrimp and pork, served with slices of cha lua (pork sausage) and fish sauce. Bean sprouts come steamed for the win, and while they do not have jalapeños, they had these super spicy sliced red peppers, so delicious! It was great in my chicken pho, would totally visit again. I've been wanting to try this spot on and off for over 2 years. It really wasn't anything crazy that was preventing this from happening, but sometimes it would be that it was past their hours or that my wife and I were craving something else. We finally hit this spot up for Breakfast/Lunch on a Sunday a few weeks ago. This is hands down our favorite Pho Ga spot in the SGV. We've tried a few other Pho Ga restaurants ( The one on Hellman / New, the one on Mission near Rosemead Blvd ). This place was so good that we decided to come back a few days later just to get an encore of their delicious broth, chicken and noodles. I prefer the slightly thicker vermicelli noodles vs the regular Pho Noodles. I feel like it's a better match for the Broth/chicken. We also ordered a half chicken to share but they include enough chicken already so this isn't necessary. I personally prefer boneless chicken with my order. If you're looking for a comforting bowl of chicken pho, this is definitely the spot to go.
