I'm sad to say that the quality here has gone down drastically within the past year. I used to come often when I was a student at UCR because the food and service was great. However, things have gone downhill pretty quickly since. The portion sizes are smaller - they give a very small amount of noodles for the size of broth you get. The meat in my pho tai was extremely tough, and the broth was definitely not as good as I remembered. It was super oily and and I couldn't finish it because I lost my appetite. The food, the ambience, the tables, the location, and the space is very good. The food is pretty standard, no uniqueness (but not in a bad way) to it. However, it is very important to be a standard place because it is very hard to find a place with very standard authentic food of that particular country. We ordered the usual, which was sizzling tofu dish and a large rare steak pho bowl. The broth was good, it was not that salty, which is very good. The pho came with all the standard condiments. The condiments were much appreciated. I also got some white onions on the side. The sizzling tofu was definitely sizzling. It tasted very good and again I am gonna use that word "Standard". The rice was piping hot, the small salad was the standard you get in ever Vietnamese Restaurant. But overall both the dish was good! When I go to these type of places, I know the service is just OK. So I would say Smile More and Give Better Service. Customers like that. Also, another critic is their restroom cleanliness! Man, their restroom was, lets put it this way, not clean at all. Their vegetarian menu is my favorite. Number 74 I believe, fried egg noodles, has a sauce that will make you cry. Pro tip: Get a tofu Bahn Mi and dip the bread into the sauce!! Trust me on this! We came in on a Sunday at noon and we were sat immediately. My mom was really excited to try this place considering she loves the Pho Ha back in the bay. My mom is the only Vietnamese speaker in the family and she was the only one who ordered in Vietnamese whereas everyone else in the family ordered in English. We ordered two orders of bahn beo for the family to share and each person ordered a bowl of pho for themselves. The bahn beo was really just average in my opinion. They were kind of inconsistent with the texture. Some were kind of thick and hard sometimes but some were also very light and delicate. I don't think I would order it next time though. I ordered a small pho ga for myself and it was pretty good. The broth tasted so delightful. I appreciated how the chicken was all white meat and deboned. The BBH was okay and pretty decent. It was average, not the best I've eaten, but also not the worst either. It had all the essentials including: slices of beef, pork blood, pork feet and cha lua. You can taste the lemongrass, but it was lacking something I could not really pin point. It was a bit on the saltier side, but I would consider getting it again if I was craving it. Really regret this one. I decided to give them a second try last night (9/1/20) as before COVID began, I got sick off of their shrimp pho. I should've trusted my gut feeling, especially after reading their health code violations (food temperature not met). This time, I ordered the #11 which includes raw beef (The broth is supposed to cook it to about well done) and the broth was lukewarm! My beef didn't cook at all. I called to let them know about my experience and he offered nothing at all (no replacement, refund, nothing). Be wary of this if you decide to give them a try. That's not the end of it, the customer service is a nightmare. Upon walking in, it was a very cold atmosphere. No greeting like a typical restaurant, they just looked at me like I was lost. The man didn't even greet me when I walked up to order. Really awkward... this should've been the sign for me to leave. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe just a bad day. But they weren't very friendly or helpful at all. In fact, he automatically charged me for a large pho after I looked back at my receipt and didn't ask me what size. I got my food and took a couple bites, as they have outdoor seating, but couldn't finish as the beef wasn't cooked and my appetite was going down. I think it was about a week after that I finally decided to get some pho since I was craving it after eating nothing but foods like yogurt and mashed potatoes lol. This was my first time here with my boyfriend and I enjoyed the pho we got! We got the Large Pho #1 Tai Nam Gau Gan Sach (Dac Biet). Maybe I enjoyed it more so than usual since it was one of the only foods I got to eat with an actual savory flavor to it. But the meat, noodles, and broth all tasted good. I can't say that this place is any different from all of the other pho places I've been to, but I've only been here once and only got their pho. I saw that they had a bunch of different drinks/slushees, but at the time I couldn't order any since I wasn't allowed to drink out a straw due to my extractions. I love Pho Ha! The food is always great and its a great place to meet with friends. Sadly I will never be eating here again. Backstory: every time I go to Pho Ha I get an order of their beef spring rolls and I've never had any issues. This one day I walk in and order beef spring rolls to go. The waiter tells me they don't have beef spring rolls. Confused I let him know I ordered them last time and he was the one who served them to me. He told me they've never had beef spring rolls and that I must have ordered something else. He showed me on the menu that It might have been the pork. Mind you I don't eat pork and I told him i've tried the pork before and didn't enjoy it so I asked to make sure it wasn't the pork sausage. He replied "yeah yeah". After waiting I finally get my order. I look inside to see they gave me the exact thing I didn't want: the pork sausage. I go back in there to let them know I didn't want it and the waiter caught an attitude quick, yells and tells me that he showed them to me on the menu and that's what I ordered. He wouldn't let me get a refund and continued to yell saying since he showed it to me I can't have a refund. I reminded him that he literally served them to me last time and I had no idea why he was trying to lie so I just asked if I could replace it with the shrimp. Without another word he snatches the unopened spring rolls out of my hand and gets me a replacement. As I'm waiting I'm getting dirty stares from all the other employees like I did something wrong. He got me my replacement order and stormed off. I don't know what their problem is but the service and attitude of the employees is the worst i've ever experienced.
