Great restaurant with great food. Went for late 8pm dinner on a Monday. Immediately greeted by a polite young man with a great attitude. He brought me water right away and handed me a menu. Only one other couple in the restaurant. But their food looked appetizing. I got the vermicelli noodles with pork and spring rolls on top. Lots of sauces and chilis on the table. I also ordered a very good limonade drink The dish was fresh and prepared well. The flavors were on point. The dipping sauce was also perfect. For dessert , i gave the "honeycomb cake" a try. Not sure what it really was but tasted like matcha. It was chewy and mildly sweet. I usually stay at the Renaissance inn across the street , so this was an ideal place to dine. I've gotten plenty of takeout orders from here, but today's to go was packed so exquisitely every item of my pho was in its own container. Noodles and steak in a bowl, broth is a container, and veggies in a bag. This kept everything a great temperature so when I got home it made for an excellent bowl of pho. Meat and vegetables were good, but nothing to write home about. Service: 3/5 Average service. The owner seemed nice and legit, but the young guy working the front counter had airpods in and we had to ask for utensils. Ambiance: 3/5 Sort of backroom vibes? The lighting was dim which gave it that intimate atmosphere, which I liked. First time trying this restaurant, definitely delicious. Fresh authentic Vietnamese flavors we all know and love. The French bread in my banh mi came out perfectly warm and crispy. The aroma of fresh baked bread permeated the restaurant. I was drooling from the moment we walked in! What really struck me tho, is how kind service was. After visiting my mother in the hospital I wasn't in the mood to cook dinner. I had a craving for pho and all my usual haunts were closed, so I found the listing for Pho House and thought I'd give it a try. The restaurant receives generally positive reviews, so I'm genuinely surprised by my extremely underwhelming experience. I understand folks are in a hurry to go home at the end of a long day, so I feel conflicted about writing this review. The restaurant closes at 9PM. I placed my order at 8:35 PM and picked it up at 8:45 PM. I may be wrong, but this seems perfectly reasonable to me. I ordered a Pho Tai, Thai iced tea, and a coconut flan. At $17, my pho was comically small. The broth filled just over half of the container, and the noodles and veggies were about 60% smaller of a portion than what I would expect to receive from other restaurants. It was such a small portion I have to believe it was a mistake, or someone was in a hurry. The ice in the Thai tea was melted in the 10 minutes it took me to pick up my order, so it was warm and watered down. The flan dissolved into a pile of goo, likely from the heat of the broth. Overall, I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of quality control. It's such a disappointment. This restaurant's saving grace is the pho was phenomenal. The broth was rich and delicious, and the noodles were cooked perfectly. But I can't justify spending that much for such a tiny portion. I don't believe I will ever return to Pho House. read more

Wow, very nice. This place used to be Tan Tan (years ago) but has been redone and expanded recently into a larger space! Karaoke at night or book for parties! My friend and I were in for lunch today and ordered the fried "egg" (or spring) rolls with pork, and OMG, what a treat. The fish sauce was on par with any good place. Two bowls of steaming Pho, one Tai, and one Special. The broth could use some work and a little sweet, but portions are great and would go again. For the price, I say, try it! they have an updated menu but the food is still delicious and the staff friendly and efficient . lately my favorite thing is the Avocado shake/smoothie. It has a beautiful smooth texture and a neutral flavor. sometimes it's just the right thing. i still love their Vietnamese coffee but I don't always need that much caffeine no matter how good it tastes. They have fried donuts I think they are called to dip in your pho. it's been years since I have had a pho restaurant that served these. i missed them. The Chicken salad is a great meal if you are wanting veggies it is bright and fresh. The dressing has no oil and balances sweet and savory perfectly. This is one of my favorite places to go and read and eat and just be comfortable. I hope you give them a try. read more

Was in town for work and staying at the hotel across the street; and it was a rainy day (of course), so the Pho house looked like the perfect choice. I got here early, before diner time and there were just a couple busy tables, I got greeted and seated immediately. Tables were clean, and packed with everything you'd need: from chopsticks and spoons to chilly sauce and soy/sriracha jars, and more! I had the spring rolls - DELICIOUS! Perfectly fried (no rancid oil smell), tons of filling (pork, chives) and paired with the sweet and sour sauce, yum. The Pho was the house chicken pho and I added shrimp, oh boy was that a big bowl or what? I ate half and took the rest to the hotel where thankfully I could re heat for later! The broth itself was flavorful and with the fresh toppings (basil, sprouts) was the perfect combination. Oh! And the quail eggs were a Little pleasant surprise to find in the bowl! This place used to be called "Tan Tan deli", and for 13 years it was my favorite vietnamese spot in the coove. They switched ownership a while before the pandemic, and I pretty much stopped eating there except for the iced coffee & the lemongrass bahn mi sandwiches with extra paté (both are VERY GOOD). I was in town, so my aunt and I decided to have lunch here, and I'm glad that we did. The bahn mi bread was fresh, light and crispy, the flavor of the meat & veggies was perfect (and I always get extra paté on my sandwich). My auntie loved the lemongrass chicken vermicelli bowl. I didn't actually realize this place was here as I've often driven by and not paid attention. Tucked away in the shopping center here is a diamond in the rough. I love pho, it's a treat and comfort food to me. I've eaten a lot of it in my life as well. I love that they bring you the chili oil and paste without having to ask, and the fish sauce on the table. The herbs were very fresh, and the broth flavorful. The tripe and tendon were tender, and the salad rolls had fresh mint which was really nice. I'll definitely be back. Next I want to try their Bun bo hue. I highly recommend this place. :) read more

"Small portions" isn't something I ever thought I'd be complaining about at a pho restaurant, but here we are. My husband and I both ordered pho with beef (P3 and P5) and received bowls of pale broth with tiny flecks of meat -- nothing like the robust and flavorful bowls we've been enjoying at this establishment for the last decade. The broth quality has noticeably diminished. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out of a packet. The bowls were small by pho standards -- perhaps what I'd expect if I'd ordered a size small -- but there wasn't the option to upgrade to a larger bowl, so $16 children's meals it was. We both left hungry. When we mentioned to our server that there wasn't much meat in our bowls, he looked at us like a deer in the headlights. We've been patrons of this restaurant through changes in ownership, but after our lunch, it's clear the standards have slipped below what we're willing to support. read more

Honestly, this place is so mediocre. the Bahn mis were pretty good, but the pho is so bad. It tastes like noodles and straight up water with beef. They barely give any meat too. Don't come here there are so many other better places for pho, instant pho from Costco is better. I would rather eat Panda express or literally anything over this. read more

I love this place. I used to eat here every Sunday 10am with my love. Now we hit a weekday too, so twice a week. The owner is great and all the ladies super friendly, same with the men. All very nice. There is a lot to choose from so don't be afraid to ask questions, or order a variety. SP2 Birds Nest style. SP6 with Tofu. Fried egg rolls. Tofu fresh rolls. Sampler platter. When you are craving a banh mi, this place definitely hits the spot. It's right off of Mill Plain, so very convenient to get to. We ended up going to try their banh mi's after seeing photos of them online. We tried 3 different sandwiches - chinese BBQ pork, grilled lemongrass pork, and grilled lemongrass chicken. All of them were super delicious, the bread was perfect, and they go far more authentic than other locations - by using pate in their sandwiches. Their vegetables were aplenty and perfectly pickled. 10th stop on my 2017 PDX Take Out Banh Mi Throwdown brings me to what used to be the Tan Tan Cafe and Deli. The minor remodel did improve the look and feel a little. They kept the old menu but increased the banh mi cost from $3.95 to $4.50. I had the Banh Mi Thit Nuong for $4.50 and here is how the scoring went... Venue: Slightly nicer than Tan Tan, 8/10 Service: The 2 people at the counter were pretty mediocre. Looked like they would rather be working at the car wash. Tan Tan was hit or miss with regard to service but today this place was a total miss. 6/10 Bread: Pretty much the same as Tan Tan, pretty good but not great. 7/10 Vegetables: They rocked in this category with do chua, jalapeño, cilantro, cucumbers and sliced onions crispy, fresh and well laid out. Same as Tan Tan. 10/10 Meat: There was good and bad with the meat. The meat itself was great with good moistness, tenderness and flavor. Almost tasted braised and not grilled. Unfortunately there wasn't much meat in the sandwich and considering the price was raised $0.55, really ended up disappointing. 7/10 Value: $4.50 is a lot for a banh mi and with 80% of the sandwich being vegetables, value was marginal. 6/10 Total Score: 44/60 = 73% This overall was a good banh mi and with twice the amount of meat and a modicum of service would have made the top 3 like Tan Tan. Unfortunately, increasing the price and decreasing the amount of meat was disappointing. On the up side, the salad roll and pate chaud were better than Tan Tan. Hopefully when they get the bugs worked out, it will be better than Tan Tan in every way. Check it out. Update: the pho is better than Tan Tan and on par with Vi Van and Thanth. read more

The service in this establishment is terrible. I went to this establishment for an early dinner. There were no other customers in the restaurant and the person who sat me asked me what I wanted. I ordered the Wonton soup. I waited and waited and never got my food. I finally got up to ask if my food was being prepared and the server remembered that she had not ordered my food. She told me it would be ready really quickly, which it was but that was the last I saw of anyone until I was ready to go. I had to go to the front to pay and was never brought a check or asked if I needed anything. read more
