Love Pho Kapaa!! Great food, wonderful staff and great prices. My favorite place to eat on island.

Surprised to find not just 1, but 2 pho joints have opened up on the island since we lasted visited. This shop was conveniently located next to Longs and we had to stop here since pho is GZ's favorite food. He had the deluxe combination; greatly enjoyed the broth and the thicker than usual noodles (though not as thick as flat noodles). He thought the meat was kind of low quality (tendon was the best) but the other ingredients outweighed it. They give you a lot of bean sprouts on the side, though way less basil/lemon; however, they said they would bring us more if we asked. I had the bun with grilled pork and egg rolls. The pork had a nice smokey flavor but was on the border of being dry; the egg rolls were good but I probably wouldn't have ordered as an app. The sauce (nuoc chom) could have been more plentiful but had a nice flavor. Service was polite though waitress seemed nervous/didn't want to disturb us. They had only been open for 10 days when we visited and I expect it will become better. In all, we plan to return in the future. Hope it does well! read more

My wife and I have been searching Pho restaurants since we moved to this island last year. For some reasons, we couldn't find any and gave up to eat Pho here. Today as stopping by Starbucks in Kapaa, we found the place!! I ordered Ox tail soup which was today's special. What a lucky day! Pho and Ox tail soup are my favorites and they are in one bowl!! The owner says that it takes 8 hours to make real Ox tail soup and it's made in that way. Ox tail Pho is not available everyday though. You would better to check before you visit if you want one. I don't know about vegetarian options but if you love authentic Pho, you will not be disappointed!! read more

A late afternoon craving for pho led me to Pho Kapaa. I wish I'd had my craving while my wife and I were still on Oahu. Everything about Pho Kapaa was just "OK." The pho was OK. The broth was very tasty, but I am not at all a fan of the thicker rice noodle Pho Kapaa uses, and there wasn't a whole lot of meat. The spring rolls (fresh rolls) were OK. My wife and I agreed that the inclusion of a spear of cucumber actually subtracts from the roll. Rice wraps, rice noodles, pork, shrimp, and some lettuce (with maybe some basil and/or cilantro) has bee the standard spring roll since I have been frequenting pho joints. Nobody adds cucumber. Ever. It throws off the whole flavor profile. Speaking of spring rolls, that brings me to the peanut sauce. Woof. The most bland peanut sauce I have ever experienced. My wife commented that she thought they had just mixed peanut butter with poi. So bland. I can't stress that enough. Finally, while the server was nice, the amount of time it took to get the pho out of the kitchen was lengthy. One of the staples of pho is quick turnaround from order to table. That was certainly not my experience. I would say that this place will do in a pinch for pho only, but I'd take the time to drive a bit further and get good pho (and spring rolls) if I had it to do over again. read more

When on vacation usually don't expect food to be awesome, but surprisingly Pho Kapaa is not bad at all. Service was quite fast and food was ok quality. I gave 4 star because it was not cheap for vietnamese cuisine. A bowl of beef pho costs $10.99!!!! that is 30% more than other places and it was more expensive than SF, SF!!! Very disappointed in the chicken pho I ordered. Lack of flavor and lack of chicken. We sat up front next to the front window and you could see all the dust and dirt on the window ledge. The windows were all dirty and grease from the fingers were on it. My wife had the seafood pho and we both laughed at each other. We both agreed the worst pho we ever had read more

This is our new go to place for Vietnamese food! Besides being a more convenient location for us, we all enjoy the food and service here as well! I love the tofu vegetable pho, the summer rolls, and the various bun dishes; the kids really enjoy the teri chicken bahn mi, short rib plate, and chicken wings (non-spicy on request); and the hubs loves the salt & pepper shrimp, the summer rolls & of course, the "Super Bowl" sized pho. Save yourself the trip and don't even bother coming here. If you're realllly wanting pho here on Kauai, go to Pho Kauai in Līhue. I'm an Vietnamese and I've never felt so disrespected. First things first, the restaurant is not up to date and looks really dirty... we sat right near the kitchen and the floors looked disgusting. Secondly, the pho broth is always already prepared.. so why did it take 30 minutes for our pho to come out and another 10 for the drinks to come? The broth was so bland and flavorless. We had to add salt, pepper, fish sauce, and a ton of hoisin sauce to give it some flavor. My husband ordered the oxtail pho. Who the eff adds broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, snow peas, cabbage and bokchoy to Pho???? NOBODY! WTF! The level of disrespect. This place was disgusting. Between two pho bowls, a sandwich, and two drinks it costed us $55!!!!! Where the hell does it cost that much for some trash ass pho???? Do not order their boba tea. That was gross too. We were happy to see another Vietnamese restaurant open where the one prior closed. We ordered the spring roll, combination pho, and beef ball & rare steak pho. The spring roll was flavorful. I like to eat mines wrapped in lettuce, I was a bit disappointed to see the lettuce under the spring rolls soaking up the oil. But the size and flavor made up for it. I'm use to smaller spring rolls at other restaurants. The pho broth was perfect, not salty or watered down. We had the perfect amount of meat and noodles. For my combo pho, I wish I had more tendon. The service was good, water refilled and they checked to see how we were doing. Will definitely come back next time we're in Kauai. read more

For a hot bowl of Vietnamese pho on a cool Kapa'a day or night, check this place out. The broth is nothing spectacular, or a standout, but it is what you should expect. They have a variety of meat to choose from, along with the usual compliments of Thai basil, bean sprouts, sliced jalapeño, and lime wedges. Unfortunately we weren't too pleased with some of their other menu choices, in particular, their salads, so we've decided to make this a pho only place to eat. read more

While in Kauai, all I wanted was seafood. My husband found this place and insisted we go and try something else local. I agreed. I am so glad we found this place. I wound up having the seafood pho dish and it was so tasty! There was a blend of calamari, shrimp, and scallops in my dish with a lot of it at that. Weird compliment, but I really enjoyed their broth. I also like that they serve a plate on the side of things you can add to your pho and that they don't automatically just throw it all in your dish, especially because there were some hot looking jalapeños that I was happy to let my husband have all to himself. The portions were huge. I had to eventually resort to finishing my seafood and leaving some noodles behind because I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it all. We also had some spring rolls as an appetizer and they were really good. I appreciated that they brought out complimentary hot tea at the end- just the right touch. The man waiting on us seemed like he might have been the owner as well. Super friendly and efficient. We went nearly a month ago and I am still raving about this place to random people. I've tried many pho restaurants, and Pho Kapaa stands up there with the best of them. Expect fast and friendly service, as well as tasty food! The beef broth is fresh, light, and not overly salted like pho can sometimes be. Pair it with the fish balls, shrimp, and squid in the #18 Seafood Pho, and you've got a very tasty meal. The vegetable broth is mellow and refreshing, and makes for a light and delicious meal. Each table comes with a generous plate of garnishes for your pho, along with lots of chilies and Sriracha. Yum! Best of all, Pho Kappa is a family owned restaurant. The staff is very friendly; on our first trip our waiter (and the owner of the establishment) gave us a huge mango right from his own garden. It was very delicious, and a wonderful treat on a hot day. I will definitely be returning to Pho Kapaa during my stay in Kauai. read more

We just had a wonderful Pho dinner at this restaraunt! I had the #12 Pho dish and my husband had the #40 lemongrass chicken. Both of our dishes were superb. Pho is one of my comfort foods and this was exactly perfect. The service was exceptional and there were lots of locals. The pho dish was $9.50 and the lemongrass chicken was around $10. I ordered the raw steak, tendon n tripe pho. Broth was delicious. But they were stingy with the ingredients. I had 3 thin slices of beef, tripe was cut paper thin (which was ok) except that I had only 2 slivers of it. The bean sprouts were fresh tho. After going horseback riding, we were famished. We drove back to Kapaa and settled on this place. Was told their food is good. They were very busy, so luckily we found a table. Got seated. Person taking the orders, a younger guy was prompt with bringing the menu and waters. I ordered the Thai iced tea, spring rolls and the shrimp Pho. Sister ordered the veggie Pho. It took a while for our bowls of Pho to arrive, so we were experimenting with the different sauces on the table. I liked the one with garlic and oil, mixed with the dark sauce, plum sauce I was told. I was waiting for my Thai iced tea. Watching the workers, as I was facing the back, I could tell I wasn't going to get my iced tea. Had to remind them. Tea came, it was very dark in color, they added to much of the Thai tea into the drink. But it tasted ok. Finally our Phos came but no springrolls. It came after the Phos as they had to be reminded again. Older guy walked past our table with the spring rolls. Hmm. On the springrolls, it came with two basic sized pieces, cut in half, along with small lettuce pieces and shredded carrot and a small amount of rice noodles I think they were, and a small bowl of sauce. Six bucks, tasty but not worth it. On the Phos, my sisters pho was missing the tofu. She had to remind the older guy, who brought out the phos. He came back with the tofu. On my shrimp pho, it came with about six pieces of small shrimp. Not worth 13 bucks at all. We added in the sides of bean sprouts and Thai basil. Soup was very tasty using the chili garlic sauce and the plum sauce. We had to wait forever for the check. We sat there, waiting, waiting, and waiting. While the two workers were serving and cleaning off tables. My sister got up and told them we were ready for the check. Older guy brings the check, which was a piece of cheap receipt type paper, with the amounts handwritten on it, but not itemized. I walked the check up to the counter figuring I didn't want them to lose my credit card. Guy used a 7 inch IPad with a card reader attached on it. Swipes my card, I sign it, he says thank you but did not offer a receipt. I told him I need a receipt and he said they will send it to my email. But didn't ask for my email address. So I said how are you going to know my email address, then he goes to a screen so I could enter my email, I added it. As of the next day the receipt still hasn't shown up on my email. I wrote down the amount on a piece of paper just in case it's different when I get my cc statement. Sorry no pictures since my phone battery was dead. read more

8.9.17 had the papaya salad with pork and shrimp. 5 out of 10. The essential sauce was lacking flavor. True to Vietnamese sauce it has to be made with fish sauce, sugar, garlic, water and some chili. The sauce here at Pho Kapaa and Pho Kauai are simply bland, bland and more bland. Next came the staple Vietnamese noodle Pho. I had the tendon pho, wife had the special and child had the flank & meatballs. While the place does have the aroma of Pho the flavoring was close to authentic but the salty level was not enough and the sweet taste of pho was not quite there yet. I give them more credit for using fresh pho noodles which is harder to find. Over all, it's an 8 out of 10 but no way is it a 10. Service here is a lot more friendly than Pho Kauai (save $ stay away) I guess it's the best Kauai has to offer since it may be difficult for the island to get the right ingredients to make pho or maybe not enough Vietnamese here so these 2 Pho places only to cater to non Viet people so the Pho does not have to be so authentic :( Sadly tho, it should still be 100 effort to make the food superior no matter where in the world the restaurant is located. read more
