Being from an area with a lot of really good Vietnamese restaurants, I can honestly say this place isn't that bad. I've had a good experience every time that I've come. There's never usually a wait and they always wipe down the table right before they seat me. My go-to is the #4 which is the beef pho with flank, steak, tendon, and brisket. The soup is always really hot and the tendon is really good and fatty (lol my fave). It comes with lime, cilantro, bean sprouts, and jalapenos on the side but I always have to ask for more lime because they usually give like 1 or 2 slices. The noodles are pretty okay (not the best but not bad) but they have given me a good amount of meat each time. All in all, not a bad place and a lot cheaper if you pay with cash, but they take cards too. read more

Decided to check this place out because of all the hype it's been getting. It was perfect weather too for some hot noodle soup. The owner, or the old man that helped us get seated was very friendly. The waiters and busboys, not too social. They lacked customer service skills. The cashier was nice and fast though. They lacked customer service skills. We were seated upstairs. We went in a group of 5 and ordered within the next five minutes. The menu was nice and concise--straight to the point. We waited probably a good ten minutes before our bowls arrived. I ordered XL #2. The soup was bland, slightly unflavored, but still passable for Davis standards. It had a very strong onion aroma. They gave a lot of noodles too, something most restaurants don't. I did have a problem with the texture though, especially since it did feel undercooked. My other friends agreed. There was a good amount of mediocre meat, not too old, not too fresh. The atmosphere was chill and nice. We ended up staying there for about 2 hours just eating and talking afterwards. This place splits the bill and accepts card payments, a good plus. XL = If you're very hungry. L = If you're in the middle. S = If you're slightly hungry. Overall, this is not the best pho restaurant that I have been to, but the friendly service did make up for it. Out of the two pho places in Davis, this is my go to one every time I crave for pho. The pho itself here is decent. There's nothing that stands out about it. I usually order the #1, their special pho extra-large, and often times I feel that they do not give enough meat. The broth is a little watery for my liking as well. I normally find myself adding hoisin and sriacha to give it some flavor. The Bun Bo Hue here, however, is delicious. It's pretty flavorful, and they know how to make it spicy! There's actually enough meat and noodles in it too! I've had better, but this is probably my go to dish when I come here. Service had gotten better since opening day, but I feel that it's still lacking. For one, on more than one occasion, one of the waiter didn't know what order he was carrying and had to go back to ask an even then almost messed up. The wait for the food is normally quite long, but at least they have TVs on all the time. Overall, it's a pretty good place and I'd give it a 3.5 stars. I don't know what I would do without this place! I've been so used to eating Pho in Oakland that I feel deprived whenever I come up for school. This place definitely satisfies my cravings! My usual orders include the Number 1 (steak on the side ALWAYS) and the Bun Bo Hue. This was actually the first place I tried BBH and I can say that I was pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for something different than your usual bowl of pho noodles, I suggest going for the BBH. This is one of my favorite spots for lunch and it is super close to campus, so I come here pretty often! Swing by whenever you get the chance. I tried every pho on the menu, and it's not terrible. Portions are decent and food comes super fast. I prefer getting bun bo hue or the cold noodle dishes when the weather is smoldering hot. Beverages: I've learned to order my Viet coffee without ice, because you get MINIMAL coffee. This ain't no Starbucks! Gimme my money's worth thank you very much. This pho place opened up not so long ago; maybe about a year so far. Every time I am craving for pho I always come here because it's the closest to me and the other pho place in Davis had some health issue based off their dirty kitchen. I usually get the pho with Rare Steak and Flank or the Bun Bo Hue. I enjoy their pho though at times they do give a lot of noodles and not enough meat. Their Bun Bo Hue is delicious but I have had better before. I haven't tried their rice plates yet but I heard they aren't that good. Service here is a bit disappointing. It takes them a long time to get the food out for you so if you are really hungry and expecting your food to come out fast then this place isn't for you unless you are really craving for pho. I only have been here a few times and all the times I have been here the food takes long to come out. My friend and I went on grand opening day and boy was it chaotic! Waiters and cooks were overwhelmed by the customers coming in by the hour that day! Of course the line was out the door and service was not great for their first day. We were seated in the corner on the first floor and was ignored because the waiters were busy with the other customers sitting there also waiting for their food or waiting to order. We got a complimentary free beverage with our order because that was the deal for the first week of opening! (I heard from another friend that they ran out of noodles the second day of grand opening in the late afternoon! Oh no! Bad for business!) I ordered their pho with rare steak and beef balls and I love it! I'm so glad that they have a pho restaurant walk-able to and from campus! Their prices and quality of their food selections are comparatively fair since it is near campus and they are the only pho restaurant which offers a variety of pho choices. This place satisfies my cravings for pho when I'm hungry and I am craving it! I am definitely a fan of this place! After a few weeks when the crowd died down, I tried their Bun Bo Hue (Beef Noodle Soup) and Bun Rieu (Vietnamese Seafood with Tomato Soup). I didn't care for their Bun Bo Hue and the looks of a pork knuckle presented on top of the noodles was not appealing to the eye for me! Their Bun Rieu tasted great! I loved the different vegetable dish they provided for the Bun Rieu to compliment the noodle soup! It was something new! Being from the Bay Area (i.e. San Jose), I have been spoiled silly by great Vietnamese food. Although it is unfair to compare Pho King 4 to establishments in pho central, I cannot ignore the fact that they exist and that Pho King must be placed somewhere on the pho-spectrum. The establishment is spacious and relatively clean. The items are reasonably priced, and there is a good variety of noodles, soups, and rice dishes for you to choose from. However, nothing I have eaten here is particularly memorable or amazing, hence the 2 stars "Meh, I've experienced better." Pho King could definitely use some help, but as it is, it will do fine for a college town pho restaurant with little to no competition from Hoa Viet or Sunrise Cafe (yes, another Vietnamese restaurant in Davis does exist). This place isn't too bad but if you have the chance to go to Sacramento go for it. As we got seated I realized our table wasn't wiped well and saw there were some spots that were missed. My boyfriend got the Large Bun Bo Hue and I got the Small Pho Tai Chin. At a glance you can tell that my boyfriend didn't receive a large since it was the same exact size as my bowl. I give the Pho Tai - 2/5 it wasn't that bland and there was some flavor considering the fact that I added lime, jalepeños, and cilantro. The noodles were not anything out of the ordinary but felt like it couldve been more soft. They also didn't give a lot of meat so don't expect too much coming here. Was desperate for some Viet, but didn't want to drive too far. Although I didn't order the pho, I tried their rice dishes. I ordered the lemon grass grilled chicken over rice which was decent. What was nice about it was that they give you a fried egg which I liked. I did taste the lemon grass which I like. It wasn't your typical grilled BBQ chicken over rice at the Viet places, but it was okay. We also ordered a pork chop over vermicelli which was also okay. Nothing special, but does the job. I've definitely had way better Viet in my life, but if you are desperate for some Viet in Davis, this is like the only place. Perhaps I'll try the pho next time. Food is good BUT what really annoys me is how when the waiters are taking your order, they're not writing it down. They act like they can memorize your whole order. Things have gone down hill since the pandemic. Over the last year we've come a handful of times to give them another chance and it's worse every time. Last week was the last time we'll come again. Frozen banh mi meat in both sandwiches and there wasn't much filling. Warm (not room temp) waters. And the lock on the bathroom? Still not fixed. I walked in on a poor young woman after I knocked and didn't hear anything. The bathroom incident was the last straw since you never want to see someone with their bare crotch out doing their business, especially in an eatery. We used to love Pho King 4 and were loyal, almost weekly customers for over 2 years. It was truly our favorite restaurant. We got pho every time and always left happy. But this place isn't the same anymore. They understandably raised their prices, but put significantly less meat in their soups and sparse fillings in their sandwiches. The quality has faltered as well. Service has become worse, even when it's not busy. Their bathrooms are also unacceptable. Mishaps like damaged locks happen, just put up a sign and fix it rather than letting it go for months. We'll miss Pho King 4 and the memories our group has had. read more

Was at Sam's a few weeks ago and walking by, made a mental note to try Pho King 4. Seemed pretty busy for the lunch hour, but was able to meet a friend who got a table beforehand. I ordered my typical go-to grilled pork over vermicelli noodles which I get whenever I try a Vietnamese restaurant for the first time. Wasn't bad! Friend ordered the pad thai, which was good, but only if you weren't expecting it to be like Thai pad thai. Other friend got the large bowl of pho #1. Didn't have time to try the spring rolls. COVID-19 review: Only 1 server on a Saturday night seems like disaster, but we aren't in normal times are we? Service aside, the Calamary was chewy/rubbery but edible. My friend said her pho tasted fishy when it shouldn't taste fishy. I however had a great mushroom and beef with white rice. Perhaps my ingredients were fresher than hers? Overall, I wish I could do half stars. I would do 4.5. Some things need improvement but definitely understand things aren't going to be the best in these crazy times. But the cashier/waitress was had such a bad attitude and was rude, I'm a very respectful person and I hate complaining about employees knowing that I know days can be hard and overwhelming but I was nothing but polite. If she sees this I hope your day got better but please do not take your bad day one someone who did nothing wrong to you... with peace and love. Best (only) place in town for hangovers! They also have some of the cheapest pitchers you'll find in Davis funny enough. Been coming here ever since pho Bac closed down around a decade ago. Pretty typical pho place nested right next campus. Pho is a little hit or miss - they have good and bad days but hey its better than nothing! They also tend to give a lot of meat haha The sizes go small, large and extra large so if you were thinking of ordering medium/not super hunger I'd suggest going with small, which is usually enough to fill u up decently. Haven't really had anything else other than pho and spring rolls so I can't speak for the rest. But great service and food comes out pretty fast, nothing to complain about :) read more

I have traditional Vietnamese parents and come from a predominantly Vietnamese area so I know what good and authentic Viet food should taste like. Needless to say, Pho King was not the most appealing restaurant to me when I came to Davis, especially after all the bad reviews I heard about it; however my friend was really craving pho and we didn't have a car to go to Sacramento, so we ended up here. The fish sauce that comes with the dish is good, and the meat is okay- not the best quality but still pretty good to eat and it was flavorful.The egg was okay, I like my yolk a little runny but they cooked the yolk.
