Come for the Bun Bo Hue. It's super loaded with proteins! My favorite part was the homemade cha (pork cake) meatballs. Usually , you'd see the sliced cha but they make it by hand here and meatball form. Only other place I've seen it like that is in Vietnam. The shop that moved to Merit went downhill for me so I'm so happy to see the original owner bringing my childhood favorites back to life! read more

They're back and as good as ever! Delicious BBH($9.50 for small) and the place has been renovated! The pricing is average and the service was decent. I'm glad they decided to open again. Definitely will be coming back more often to support this local joint! I also recommend their B10 Bun Cha Hanoi($11.95), it is vermicelli noodles with lettuce, mint, and cucumber on the side. I thought it was just a rumor, but it's true! The phoking OG returns to reclaim the throne! Took one sip of their delicious bun bo hue broth and instantly I knew it was real. Yaasssss! Taste like old days! Same staffs and same BBH. Delicious and very authentic. After closing for a couple months they reopened with the same menu and entree. My friend and I ordered the spicy beef soup aka bun bo hue and it was delicious! The small bowl was 10.95$ but very filling. It came with pork bone, beef, pork blood, and pork patty. The noodles have no tooth--They were super soft like overcooked pasta. The steak was not fresh and placed on top raw To cook in the broth. It was tough and no redeeming qualities. Ordered a special pho(dac biet) and a bbh: Pho dac biet: it's very good! The broth is packed with favor, a little bit on the oily side but acceptable. All cuts off meat are in decent size. A big improvement from the previous. it's up for contention for the best pho in e14! Bbh: you get everything you want plus pork knuckle bone. The broth is not as sweet and spicy as the old. Good if you like a more natural favor in your bbh. Down side: the bowls are packed with noodle and meat and all those goodies... but I need more soup! Can't really cook through the bean sprout and basil after I put it in. Feeling like the big body missing its spirit .. may be it's because I ordered small? But I need more soup! We were recommended to come here by an Oakland native and gosh, we couldn't have been happier. We called in a bun bo hue and a tai nam sach and ordered to go. When I picked up my order from the owner and asked if he has other locations, he mentioned how the other pho king in the area stole his name, he's been here 13 years! What a shame to do that, especially after how wonderful my experience wa I am so satisfied with my order. The food was beautifully packed and super hot with all utensils and sides as needed. The bun bo hue? Noodles were so chewy and the soup was super flavorful. We also loved how soft and fresh the noodles were in the pho. Great meat portions, made for a very satisfying lunch. Was walking around lake Merritt and wanted to get something to eat or drink. Passed by this area and decided to try it for the first time. I enjoyed their #1 which is rare steak. Bun bo hue is one of my favorite comfort dishes, and I usually eat it twice a week all around the bay. Initially I was excited to learn this was Pho King's speciality along with their fresh soy bean milk. I stopped in to try both and was... whelmed. The ingredients in the bbh tasted skunked and not fresh. The meat was chewy and tough while the vegetables lacked crunch and luster. The soup was bland and not at all spicy. Really disappointing. The fresh soy milk was decent. Reviews say it's really sweet, but I thought it could use a touch more sugar (and I usually order my boba 25% sweet). Overall the bbh left a bad taste in my mouth, and I am unlikely to give Pho King another try. Luckily my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the East Bay is just up the street. read more

I then stopped eating there since the last 5 years due to the previous owner and low quality in food. My friends in Oakland recently told me that the original owner is back to take the ownership of the restaurant. I have passed this venue many times recently while on my way to Cam Huang. The reviews all were very encouraging. Finally had the chance to stop in with the S.O. for an early lunch.....10AM Monday. There is a small parking lot hidden in the back. Those of you who have complained about parking in this area will welcome this little nugget of information. The place is relatively small. It has a modern feel with wonderful gray tones....The interior is tastefully decorated. The place is clean. We weren't here for the looks, however, the S.O. gets a little Giggidity if the place she's about to eat at is messy/dirty. She was happy, therefore I was happy about the first impression of this place. The S.O. opted for the Pho with sliced rare steak (served on the side) while I had to try their BBQ pork chops with rice combo plate. BTW: Their tea is much better than the average asian cafe brown water usually offered. Our wait was a little longer than expected, but we weren't disappointed when the food finally arrived.The soup broth that everyone raved about was indeed, as advertised. It was very, very good! The Pork chop and rice plate was the best that I have ever had anywhere. A huge serving of a quality rice, salad, two chicken wings, and two egg rolls, along with a nice-sized very flavorful pork chop. Both of our selections were large portions for the prices charged. They are a very good (E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!) value. I noticed that the place was 3/4 full by the time we left (around 11AM). The entire time we were there, I noticed that we were the only non-Vietnamese ppl there. Not a comment, just an observation. Apparently the VN community is well aware of what is going on here, while the rest of the food community is 'asleep at the wheel' so to speak. Everyone needs to keep quiet about this place. Solid Vietnamese joint for everything to be honest. My go to is the hu tieu nam vang, dry. Generous toppings of shrimp, pork, chopped pork, calamari, a fantastic sweet sauce, and lots of noodles. Their pho broth is loaded with umami and have all the usual suspects for toppings. They also have the BBQ pork spring rolls with a fried crisp inside which is generally hard to find in the Bay. The restaurant is also clean and the staff is nice. There's a reason why the place is always packed, weekday or weekend. I really have no reason to go anywhere else if I'm craving pho, rice noodles or even rice plates. read more

Looks like they remodeled it , but the moment I walked in , it didn't feel comfortable with the dark colors walls , dark floor and black color ceilings. Just felled cram into one place. If it wasn't the parking lot , I would not even come to this place. Their pho was very good , was better than many of the places I've been to , but just not comfortable inside atmosphere just not feeling it. Definitely not the same as years ago. Guy was mopping with a strong chemical smell as I was ordering, thank goodness he stopped when I asked. There was a fly buzzing around. Pho GA was too salty. I frequented here in 2012 and the worker was very nice, he's been there forever but I can't and won't go back. Certain things are just not OK in an eating environment, there is no excuse for it! They reopened Pho king, I don't know if its the same owners as the new location by Lake Merrit but their BBH tastes much better and authentic. I don't like BBH, but this pho king taste and quality 9/10. The meats are cooked well and tender, they give you blood in it as well and they have yummy house made sate chili sauce. Inside is clean and a average amount of seating. Service is super fast and attentive 10/10. This is my new go to spot for BBH and I don't like BBH lol speaks volume for their BBH I recommend everyone try it. read more

There was 5 decent size pieces of meat. They were a bit stingy on their shredded cabbage and we asked for another plate of it. I also order the iced Vietnamese coffee and I hated it.
