I ordered chicken soup today. The soup was not hot, it was not even warm (it was like in room temperature) and the vegies inside soup all was raw and remained raw since the soup was not hot. They charged me "two" dollars extra just for having thick noodle. And the woman who is the waitress there was very unfriendly with me. I will never go there again. read more

The food is great! Big portions and tasty food. The Pho is delicious and so is the Bbq chicken over vermicelli noodles.

The pho was pretty tasty and they gave us a lot of noodles for a regular size. Meat was a little dry and tougher but it had the right taste. Definitely got to sample a lot of the cuts with the #1 or #2. Looking forward to trying some others. I hate to leave bad reviews. I love this restaurant and it used to be my go to pho place. The service is usually very pleasant and the food taste great. I would've given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the service I've had recently. I've always noticed there is a tall young guy with glasses was quite short with people. I would smile and thank him for taking the order and he would just walk away. Recently I've been placing to go orders. He was rude to me on the phone, basically raised his voice at me. He was impatient. My order wasn't complicated. He just couldn't hear me or something. When my husband went to pick up to order, he was rude to my husband too. This happened a few times now. As much as I like their food I don't want to keep getting rude service. If you hate your job so much then maybe don't work in customer service? Don't ruin the business for the owner. read more

Pretty easy to find even though it is tucked away in a corner by Nob Hill Came in on my lunch hour to get a nice big bowl of pho. Walked in and nobody was there to greet, seat, or hand me a menu. I grabbed one and sat at a small table and waited for somebody to come over for nearly 10 minutes. Not off to a good start. Once my order was placed the food came pretty quickly. Pho ga (5 stars) - it's really, really good. Broth was perfect and the chicken was not that dry, thin sliced stuff. Big chunks of tender chicken just like I like it. They have the chili oil that I love so much here! And for $7.75 for a medium sized bowl it is very affordable. Came here with my roommate from college and we were seated quickly. The menu is easy to read and I liked the pictures and the numbers next to each dish. I ordered beef chow fun and it was very flavorful. The portion was generous and it was a good balance of noodles, beef; and veggies. My roommate got pho tai and it smelled wonderful. South San Jose doesn't really have any outstanding pho places, and anybody that lives over here knows that we have to drive all the way over to the Eastside for more Vietnamese selections. Pho La is located next to Nob Hill by Santa Teresa High School, although a little dark inside, decor is clean and comfortable.The family that runs this restaurant is very friendly. Many Vietnamese businesses tend just take orders and put out good food without the customer service aspect, so it was nice to be able to chat with the owners and employees. It's a pho spot, and it's my first time here..so you already know what i'm gonna order PHO-sho!!! Menu is quite large with vermicelli bowls and rice plates as well if pho isn't your thing. Because of my prior experiences with southside Vietnamese restaurants, my expectations were on the low end. But the food here ended up being pretty good! I got the large #1 Pho Dac Biet, which is basically the standard combo bowl for pho restaurants. Large bowl was only $7.99 and they weren't stingy at all with the serving size. Lots of brisket and flank and noodles. Broth was a little on the bland side, but that's OK. I like seasoning it to my liking with lime, siracha, fish sauce, basil, and the other condiments. The server also suggested we try out the crispy noodle plate. Deep fried noodles came out super hot with shrimp, chicken, beef, and veggies over a sweet sauce. That only cost about $9 and really tasty as well. My only complaint was that they barely gave me any bean sprouts or fresh jalepenos on the side. It also only came with a couple basil leaves. I asked for more, and they didn't hesitate at all and gave me more. Gonna give this place a solid 4 stars! Will definitely be back, nothing is over $10 and good serving sizes and customer service. Only 5 minutes away from the house too, so on those rainy days when im craving pho but don't wanna drive far away, I already got my new default neighborhood spot. I have been to this restaurant quite a few times & it's definitely a fave. The quality of food is consistent as well as the service which is on the minimal side. The pho here is worth it though especially for vegans as there can be limited pho restaurants that don't have any veggie pho. (There is only one other vegetarian option on the menu from what I could tell but not sure what if is vegan as well.) why I personally love about the veggie pho here is the broth & how they cook their tofu! It looks basic but has quite a bit of flavor and I love how practically every bowl I've gotten from here comes out steaming hot. So be careful to not burn your tongue! My boyfriend also loves the beef pho here and tastes a significant difference in the broth from the other places in the town where he lives. This place is more on the South San Jose side so it's worth driving to if you're heading up north on the 101 or going either way on the 85. This is also great if you don't want to get stuck in the midst of San Jose traffic during rush hours to get to the the pho restaurants in east San Jose. read more

I've been here two times now and can safely say that it is a strong 4 stars in my book for the Pho only. I was thinking I'd be hard pressed to find any decent Pho or Vietnamese restaurant in 'Santa Teresa' area of San Jose but this place popped up as a good contender on my yelp search. The restaurant is less than moderately busy which is a good thing if you're looking for quick service and a short wait for your food. The service as with most Vietnamese restaurants is quick and you never wait too long for a bowl of Pho to be put together! I enjoy the lighter broth here which isn't overly dark or salty to me, good balance. I would like to say that if you want a good amount of meat, you need to order a combination Pho or Dac Biet which will have tendon, tripe, brisket, and rare steak. Don't expect to get a lot of meat if you're just ordering one or two types of meat in your Pho, just saying that for so ya'll know! Side of fresh vegetables were just enough for my bowl and all the expected sauces you will likely use are there at the table. I believe the Pho bowls here are very similar to Beef Noodle #1. As I was eating, people came in to order dishes to go that were not "Pho" which means that this place makes some other decent Vietnamese dishes... I would have never had thought to order something else. I remember hearing people order rice dishes and spring rolls maybe? Some patrons here seemed like regulars from the area and they were most likely ordering family style. (you hear a lot sitting close to the register, lol). $8 for a good bowl of Pho Dac Biet at a locations like this, you simply can't beat it. read more

This restaurant is located in a more developed shopping area and is nestled between a large grocery store and potentially pizza shop. I was worried that the noodles here wouldn't be as authentic as a result. Overall I was happy with the service. They were quick and attentive. This location is also clean and I had no concerns with the food. The noodle itself was great and satisfied my pho craving. Just a tip you pay up front here instead of them bringing you the check. Really surprised about the good ratings here. I came in around 8 on a Saturday. It was really empty. I got #73, the grilled prawns and beef rice plate. When it came out, I was surprised at how sad the beef looked and that there were only two small pieces of shrimp! For ten dollars! I mean come on, give me maybe at LEAST four prawns if you're going to say prawns come with the meal. One less prawn and it would have been "one grilled prawn and some beef rice plate." What's more, the beef was partially cold. What a bummer. I barely ate anything before asking for a refund. I technically hadn't paid yet but they told me I could just leave it. Their pho comes in two sizes--medium and large--and the medium is only $6.99. It was a pretty large bowl to me. The broth was nice, good amount of meat and noodles, so all in all it was a good bowl of pho. It's not my favorite but it certainly surpasses several other places I've had pho. read more

I came in around dinner time and the restaurant was like a ghost town. I Got #70 to go and i was very disappointed to see a very greasy pork chop with 85% bone and two small pieces of shrimp with vegetables and rice. The flavor was very bland until you drown the rice with the fish sauce and use Sriracha. This place has 4 stars which is a huge shocker for me when my review should accurately depict what rating they deserve. I usually do not like writing salty reviews, but I was deeply disappointed with the quantity and quality of the food i received from a 4 star rated Pho restaurant. Following up #70 my girlfriend ordered #16 which also lacked any flavor what soever. The only good thing was that her soup came with hoisin sauce..
