The simple rare steak pho I got came with a chunk of basically frozen slices of "steak". When I put them in the broth to cook they did not. I reheated my broth more and tried again and instead of turning normal brown color, they turned a pale grey pink, like pork. I was too afraid to eat them as they did not look healthy. My grandpa ordered the wonton pho and had a similar complaint about the meat texture and quality. I would have given them 4 stars if it weren't for my several encounters with one of their servers, whom I find to be quite rude. Most all of the servers/employees have been pleasant, aside from the younger male with glasses. I've heard him speaking to other customers very nicely but it seems as soon as he finds out that you can speak Vietnamese, he will write you off. He never smiles at me, is very short with me, and is sitting behind the counter watching something on his phone about 95% of the time that I've seen him there. It seems he will kiss your butt just as long as you are not Vietnamese. I believe this phenomenon is referred to as internalized racism. Other than that...for being one of the only pho restaurants in the area, the food is not horrible. Broth is a bit salty and doesn't smell or taste as aromatic as pho is meant to. I couldn't even finish more than half of my bowl of pho. Most everything else is decent enough to satisfy your Vietnamese food cravings. Their banh mi, although a bit pricey, is actually quite good. Their price points are probably appropriate given the location but the food is consistently mediocre. If they didn't accept CCs, I wouldn't go out of my way to pull money from an ATM. read more

This place was big and looked clean. There were not a lot of people here when we came here around 7:30pm. My brother ordered a medium #1 Pho Xe Lua Dac Biet ($8.45) and I ordered a large #17 Pho Tai ($9.45) and also #23B Grilled Pork Spring Rolls ($5.95). There were rice plates, chow mein, pho, and vermicelli on the menu so a lot of choices to choose from. The Grilled Pork Spring Rolls were good and I don't see that too often. The Pho Tai was pretty good. The large was enough for a hungry person. The broth was tasty to me but the meat was a little bit different texture-wise. Otherwise, it was still good and you probably can't go wrong with any of them. Overall, the food here was good and I would recommend coming here. read more

Mostly ate take out. Have not eaten there for a while but when I did it was good. The vermicelli with chicken and beef is delicious.

The pho always comes out warm and not piping hot as it should be. The employees seem to be irritated that you are there. Good luck getting any attention after your food is brought to the table. read more

I give two stars mainly because of cleanliness. The bathrooms need to be gutted and rebuilt to new and maybe spray around to kill cockroaches. I didn't have time to drive to Eastside to get pho so I ordered food from here. I got beef pho, a vermicelli dish with grilled pork, an order of egg rolls, and a Vietnamese honey cake. The broth for the pho didnt have that much flavor, and the grilled pork was not very exciting. The egg rolls were mediocre as was the honey cake. Comfort food is the first thought that comes to mind when I repeatedly return to this restaurant. Anytime my wife has a cold the remedy is a Large Chicken Pho with extra Jalapeno peppers. My favorite is the fried lemon pepper Tofu. We have had almost every item on the menu all delicious. this business is hanging in there with the COVID restrictions they are fully compliant and you can feel very safe when you walk into order or pick up that order. read more

I never have to wait and the place is always very clean! The workers are also really sweet. I always come here whenever I am in in the area and craving Vietnamese. I usually stick with what I like but here I like to change it up. This time I got the vermicelli with chicken and egg rolls and my boyfriend got the sizzling spicy chicken plate and we also got the spring rolls. Went here for a quick pho bite to eat. Overall the broth was very nice and the quality of the food was good. The large pho was very plentiful and nice. Definitely one of the best pho places that I have tried in San Jose. The broth is more flavorful and rich and the flank is super tender compared to other places! I have also tried the grilled prawns, grilled pork and shrimp cake over rice and it was delicious, but the portions were small. I'd give a NEGATIVE 1MIL if I could. I ordered egg rolls (fried) they brought me spring rolls see picture. I did not touch it & told the waiter (the young guy who talk my order) he replaced it w/eggrolls which were eatable at best. The main course: I ordered chow mein with CHICKEN. I started to eat it but it tasted like FISH! I am ALLERGIC to fish. One of my friends at the table said they use fish oil to cook this and showed me a small container of it! I told this to the older guy (I think owner or manager) and he said use some plum sauce that was at the table. I did I still could not eat it. See the picture which us the way I left this on the table before leaving the place - I barely had 1 bite. I go back up front to the older waiter to pay my check and he charged me $18!!! He said we gave you credit for the spring rolls - I said what credit?! the younger waiter took the WRONG ORDER. Finding good Phô in South San José is like trying to find anything less than $10 at Costco--it just ain't happening. The current demarcation line for good Phô is Capitol Expwy, but I've been holding out hope that something South of that exists. I've been slowly whittling away my options with my latest excursion to House of Phô, not being a complete bust, but a mediocre attempt. I've had Phô LA (PL) in my sights since it first opened last November. I was feeling under the weather and was craving a nice hot bowl of Phô to help soothe my congestion. So I grabbed an order of my set standard to-go and here's the results:  #23: Gôi Cuôn (Spring Rolls)- Standard Spring Rolls that tasted very fresh and came with a terrific Peanut Dipping Sauce; I added a little Sriracha to it and I was in heaven. 4* #1: Phô Xe Lûa Dâc Biêt (Special Combo w/ Rare Steak, Flank, Brisket, Tendon & Tripe): Broth- Very good broth that had a good beefy flavor and a nice touch of herbs; not Phô Công Lý good but I'd put it up against most East side broths. 3.75* Noodles- Standard Phô noodles that were cooked right by PL. They were also very generous with them so that earns them an extra 1/2-star. 3.5* Meat- PL gives you an ample amount of meat and they were extra generous with my favorite, Tendon. I'll also give them a big kudos for keeping my rare Steak separate from everything else so it didn't overcook on the ride home. Fun Fact: Phô is actually great as a to-go item as long as they pack all the ingredients separately. 4* Service & Ambiance- The gentleman taking my order was very nice and attentive; very atypical for a Viet restaurant. The restaurant was very clean, modern, and had a nice homey feel to it; I will definitely be back to dine-in one day. 4* Value- PL has old skool pricing on their Phô; I paid $7.99 for a large and that's almost unheard of nowadays. Phô prices are usually pushing the $10/Large at most places these days. 4.5* While it's not the greatest Bowl of Phô I've ever had it's easily the grand champion of South San José Phô. Compared to East SJ Phô it's a solid 3.5-stars but the friendly service, clean interior, generous portions and excellent value give it the 4-star boost. read more

It's a 3.5 Why do I give 4 stars? Simply because its better than other places I rated 3 (like house of Pho for example). Very fresh and balanced tasting spring rolls. The Pho is excellent (way less MSG than Pho Y 1). Less MSG...so people might find the broth less 'tasty' but to me it was light, fine tasting, well seasoned. I came here for lunch with a few friends. This is definitely a clean Vietnamese pho place! I love how the menu has a lot of dishes to choose from. I decided to order a medium size Pho #1 (rare steak, brisket, well done flank, tendon, and tripe). This place only has 2 sizes which is medium ($6.99) or large ($7.99). Our food came out fairly quick. I really loved my pho! There was plenty of noodles and there was a decent amount of meats. The basil and bean sprouts looked fresh. My pho broth was pretty tasty, and it was nice on a chilly day. My friend ordered a pork rice plate. The pork was kinda cold, so he didn't like it that much. I touched his plate and noticed the plate is ice cold. The only warm item was the steam rice. It will be good if the meats is hot or at least warm for customers. Service wise, it was ok. After we got our food, they didn't stop by anymore. My friend wanted more water, but he never got it refilled. I would recommend customers to get 2 water cups if you tend to drink during your meal.
