Finally decided to try the local neighborhood pho place! It was great timing since the entire family was sick, so we definitely needed soup. We arrived at the restaurant around 4:30 pm a Thursday and it was empty! The only people in the dining room were staff and people picking up to go orders. Nothing special about the ambiance but it was definitely still and quiet while we were dining. The pho came in about 10 minutes! It definitely hit the spot, good broth and amount of meat. I still prefer other pho spots but it's good to try a local spot. read more

I love banh mi sandwiches a lot and found this place nearby and it seemed to have good options . So I called them up for take out order for pulled pork banh mi and they said it will be ready in 15 mins . I reached before 15 minutes were over and they had the order ready already ,which was impressive . The complex had ample parking . The prices are reasonable. The lady on the front counter was friendly. However my biggest issue was I felt there was very very less amount of actual pork in the banh mi. I have had banh mis from many places before and I have never seen so less meat inside . It felt like having a veg banh mi almost . Also it had a weird non pleasant subtle smell when the wrapper was on it . I am not sure what was it . I ate some of it but couldn't finish it all . This was the first time I so hated a banh mi . I came here on a late night after a long day of work and studying, and while all pho restaurants in the immediate area were closed, this one was open a little later. The staff was awesome and they didn't mind how late I came (30 min before closing). There was someone that came at 9pm on the dot. They were super accommodating and attentive. The food was prepared very nicely. The place was large with seating for all types of parties. Now on for the food. I was craving a rice plate. I have yet to try the soups. The rice plate was delicious! I gotta say though, I was not a big fan of how they make their shrimp cake compared to other areas. I will definitely come back to try other food on the menu! read more

The service here was really poor and the ambiance is nothing special. Nobody came to check in or refill my water while dining in. I waited at my table after I finished my pho and after waiting for a while I went up to the front to pay and they were confused on why I was there. I just told them I wanted to pay for my food since I didn't get the bill. The pho was okay, nothing special due to the meat feeling like an older low quality frozen cut steak. I wanted to give this place another shot, but they failed since the service was awful and the food was nothing special. I wouldn't recommend coming here after I've had a few poor experiences at this place. read more

One of my favorite local pho places around. I think they have the best banh mis - the bread is nice and fluffy, with a good mix of veggies and meat. I like that they ask if I want it with all the fixings (cilantro, pickled veggies, jalapeno). Another favorite is the pork rice plate, that usually takes me around 2 meals to finish. The pork is flavorful, usually not too fatty, but still tender. Their pho is also pretty decent, plenty of noodles that hold up nicely with the soup, and also an equal amount of meat. While east side probably has better tasting pho, this still hits the spot. And finally their vietnamese iced coffee is just okay, a little more roasted than I like, but it is strong. Overall, the ingredients are fresh and flavors are good. We usually pick up to go, but service has also been fantastic when we eat there. read more

I live very close to Pho LA and it has been way too long since I have been back. I was craving a sandwich, so I was originally headed to Mr. Pickle which is in the same shopping center, but I saw Pho LA and I was hoping they sold Banh Mi's. Right as you walk up to the restaurant, they had a sandwich board in front with the list of their Banh mi options. I ordered the BBQ Pork Banh Mi. Matter a fact we moved recently out of San Jose but we always travel down because of how much we enjoy this spot! Pho LA in San Jose is one of my go-to spots. The chicken pho is solid -- flavorful, comforting, and always hits the spot. What really sets this place apart for me is their house-made chili oil -- it's seriously addictive. I always leave with a jar to go! I've only ever ordered the pho because it's that good, but my brother swears by their sandwiches, and my husband is a fan of the fried rice. One of my friends said he liked Pho La, so I gave it a try recently. You really need to be looking for it, as it is literally in the back corner of the Santa Teresa Square (Nob Hill & Starbucks) on Santa Teresa & Snell. Pho La is a decent size place with multiple 4-tops, 2-tops, and even 6-tops. There was only one table occupied when I arrived on a Friday night around 5:30. In addition to pho, rice plates, and vermicelli bowls, they had banh mi, short ribs, and some Chinese dishes. I tried their #1 Pho which was supposed to come with rare steak, flank, brisket, tendon, & tripe. There was nothing rare in my bowl when it arrived. The best part of pho is supposed to be the broth, rich and gelatinous from hours of simmering with beef bones but this soup was pretty bland. The noodles were a bit over cooked too. I also tried an order of their salt & pepper tofu. The tofu was piping hot but not very salty or peppery. Based on this visit, I wouldn't order pho here again, but I might give one of their rice plates or vermicelli bowls a try. I didn't get a very hospitable vibe from the people working there, but based on the interactions of customers dining in and picking up to go, it sounded like there were a bunch of regulars. Just when I thought this place couldn't get any better.... I tried their Thai tea. It was AMAZING. When I go to restaurants I never expect them to have good boba, but oh my god this place is the exception. I ordered their Thai tea with boba and it changed my life. So good. read more

Great taste of Pho! The soup is purely boiled from beef bones instead of a mixing of sources or powders.

The location is convenient for the area and parking is plentiful. The pho is on the border of okay and bad. While I enjoyed it, for the price I paid I came out thinking it was worth it to drive the extra miles to go to East Side. I didn't enjoy how they cooked my noodle as it was clumped together and breaking it up caused it to break into small little pieces. This is a Pho place I'll go to if I can't reach the other ones in San Jose. read more

The Shaking Beef was pretty good, but tasted different than I expected. I've eaten Shaking Beef once before coming here and the beef was really tasty, tender, and flavorful. It also came with a bed of lettuce and bell peppers and onions on the side. The peppers and onions were cooked nicely where they were still a bit crunchy. When eating the Shaking Beef at Pho La the meat was perfectly cooked where the meat was tender and juicy. The meat didn't have much flavor compared to the previous restaurant I went to, so it wasn't as tasty. It was still good, but it was not what I was expecting. I figured that the Shaking Beef, despite being from a different restaurant, might taste the same or similar. The plate or food was still filling and looked yummy. I liked that the veggies were still crunchy and that the meat was cooked well. Overall, I like Pho La for my previous experiences. I usually order Curry Chicken or Mongolian Beef. Bummed about this place. Basically, once I saw a cockroach roaming about the women's bathroom (on the baby changing table, of all places!!!), my appetite dropped significantly. Service: really kind people who took our orders. Food: got the shrimp spring rolls and it was decent. I asked for the fish sauce since I like that sauce better than the sweeter sauce that they provide. Cleanliness: not the cleanest. Tables were a bit sticky. It was very mediocre, noodles had a slimy texture to them and the broth tasted very bland akin to dishwater. Ok, I didn't expect much from this place but both the chicken and beef pho were pretty good! I was especially surprised by the chicken pho-- the meat was ok (just shredded white chicken meat) but the broth was so tasty. I ordered 2 separate times to-go and finished the entire thing, broth included! I have yet to try dining in here, but so far I am impressed. Glad I found a place close to home so we don't have to go to Vietnam Town for good pho. read more
