I've been a customer of this Pearl River for a few years now, and I have never had a disappointing visit. The service is quick, and the food is great. Their lunch special is the best value and I normally get it, but today I decided to try the Mongolian Beef Combo Dinner which is not as value but totally worth it as you get a generous bowl of fried rice, a bowl of soup, and one of the sides to go with it. I always enjoy the wonton soup and fortunately it was the soup of the day so my meal was extraordinary. The ambiance is good, the interior is well-decorated and they have game and karaoke nights every week. I can see that this Pearl River is a good fixture of the community and would highly recommend it, especially if you can make it for lunch! read more

I ate half a serving and a few pieces of the chewy most likely frozen to pan Sweet & Sour Chicken and I wanted to vomit and defecate my pants at the same time for the next 4 hours. After getting my hair dyed my significant other wanted to take me out to get some Chinese food. He came across this location one time and wanted to take me here. We were greeted by a waiter and he sat us down to a table. My boyfriend ordered their dinner special and I orders their lunch special. He got chow mein, sweet and sour pork, eggrolls, and fried rice. I got fried rice, kung pao chicken, and cheese wontons. I also ordered a side of their wonton soup and we both got the potstickers. He ordered iced tea and I got a sprite. With 3 refills of iced tea and all of our food together everything came out to $58.79! Everything tasted amazing! I was more of a fan of their wonton soup. Me and my family have been coming here for years now. The owner is very kind, and you can tell how much he loves this restaurant- however in recent times, there are certain things that have stood out- specifically when I've eaten here today. First off, the waitress forgot to put in our order of potstickers which we wanted as an appetizer, so instead it came after our food (which isn't a big deal- accidents happen). The potstickers were burnt but not crispy- which kinda showed they made them in a rush just to get them out to us quickly. But throughout the service, she didn't check on us even though we needed a few things. she never came back out again. The only time she did, we had finished our food already and it was to give us water (which we had drunk a long time ago/ had been empty while we ate). At the end, when we got our receipt, we saw they had charged us for a lemon slice- A LEMON SLICE. It costed us 70 cents just for lemon, which is outrageous. It wasn't even a big slice- it was so thin- like half a slice. When we asked about it at the front, Marcus told us it's always been like that (which it hasn't- again, my family has came here for years) and gave us an attitude for asking about it. He was very rude about it- which it wasn't even a big deal until he was rude. Honestly, I don't think we are coming back here again- which is a shame because we loved it- but with the staff, it makes it an unpleasant dining experience and I'd rather go somewhere else. This place is pretty dope if you're in the neighborhood. How many Bar/Lounges can you have a beer, cocktail and get some pretty damn good Chinese Food in the same building? Worst Chinese food EVER. I wish there was more than a not good rating! There should be one for disgusting food. I Doordashed mu shu pork, vegetarian egg roll, and vegetarian chop suey Egg rolls were so greasy I put them on paper towels to soak up the grease. One bite, the filling was rancid tasting. Sunday Afternoon went have Lunch. I've not been here for year's. I actually have to say it's better than I've had in the past. I really liked how you're able to have a lunch special unlike most Chinese Restaurants on the weekend. They give a very nice portions as well. I would recommend the cream cheese wontons over the Spring Roll. Ordered the egg rolls and not sure exactly what I received. It was not like any egg roll I have ever had, even in this restaurant. It was like a corn dog meets a chimichanga meets a burrito. It was not in an egg roll wrapper. It was some thick doughy, fried vase holding the insides which tasted like an egg roll filling. It was heavy and very greasy. Upon walking into this restaurant it immediately smelled like bleach. The restaurant appeared clean; however, I later wondered if it really was. We ordered from the lunch menu: potstickers, lemon chicken and cashew chicken. Everything came quickly. The lemon chicken had a scent of fish to it--according to recipes I looked at, that ingredient isn't on the menu. The sauce for the cashew chicken had a slimy texture to it which wasn't appealing. The taste for all of the items was average, but the kicker was the bug that was in the sauce that we noticed. When we informed the server, she acknowledged that it was a fruit fly and that she was "sorry." She clearly wasn't surprised which made me wonder how clean the kitchen was and if that was the reason for the strong smell of bleach. Also, she didn't offer anything except for her "sorry" which was disappointing, especially since the body of a bug had been flavoring our food for gosh only knows how long. Best Chinese American food i've had in san jose! I had fried rice, general chicken, fried cream cheese wontons, and fried milk bread. The fried rice was perfect. Just fresh green onion, egg, and soy sauce fried up to order. No nasty frozen vegetables or day old rice here! This place is a hit or miss. When I dine in, the won ton soup is good, the rice is great, entrees hot. When I order out, its usually good, but this time was very strange. The wonton soup I ordered the day before had a weird pink liquid. It was so pink I could not excuse it. Bright pink. I called and the waitress was nice and offered me a new one. I got the new one in a dripping bag and she gave me a bag over it. I thought "kitchens get wet its fine". I get home and the cup was broken at the top and on the side. Their customer service is great but the people in the back.... not so much. UPDATE: I ate the soup and found a small, sharp, plastic piece inside one of the wontons. And then I asked what is the house special sauce beef, she said that everything in the menu, told me to read it by myself. WTF?!?! I have been going to Pearl River on and off for the past 20 years. Back then, it was a good place to get some decent food, but then the quality would go down and then up, down & up, and finally it went down and didn't go back up. The food is the worst I've ever seen it. The sauces are from a can, as are some of the veggies, which means NOT fresh and weird flavors. The green beans in black bean sauce had no sauce of any flavor, flavorless canned mushrooms, and more bamboo shoots than green beans (in a good restaurant when you order green beans you get fresh green beans, not a bunch of filler). The sweet and sour chicken pieces were bone dry inside, and the dish seemed like some bad midwestern Chinese frozen entree I could get in the freezer section of my local mega mart. What's worse is they sent us the wrong order, I got this instead of Schezuan Chicken. The egg rolls which used to be good, are not any longer. They opted to substitute cabbage for the filler when they used to have fresh ingredients inside. Tasted off, like most of their dishes, probably because the canned food has turned. There are much better places out there and very nearby. Skip this one and save your money! read more
