    Special Vermicelli (Bun Dac Biet)
    Nadia N.

We love checking out local Vietnamese restaurants to see which place has the best bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) and the soup at this location is consistently good! It doesn't have all of the meats you would expect for the dish but the broth is very flavorful if you love lemongrass. It comes in a hot stone dish and it would be even better if it came with more traditional meats like pork blood in the soup. Our favorite is the short rib version. We also always get the banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake) here and love how they are so crispy. Also the presentation of the banh xeo is beautiful compared to other places in the valley. It reminds us of some places in California. The vermicelli is standard and nice to get if you prefer something light and refreshing. This place is part of our rotation when we are craving these three dishes.

Peanut sauce for the spring rolls

The experience with Pho Mai was alright. Now, let me start by clarifying that this was a to-go order. The ordering process and the staff were fine. They were very polite when I placed the order plus when I showed up for my pick up. The drive from the restaurant to home was only 10 minutes long. However, when I got home, the pho and spring rolls I ordered both tasted...old. The pho soup tasted too acidic (like a bunch of lime pre-squeezed into it with too much fish sauce), the spring roll skin was tough, and the peanut sauce was soupy with the layer of oil separating from the actual sauce. Please help me understand if I should not have ordered Vietnamese food 45 minutes before they close, or this is how authentic Vietnamese food actually tastes like? Should I not have ordered to-go and try to dine in instead? I have many questions.

Lots of variety of food and drinks here! Service was top notched! The noodles came in stone bowl so the soup was hot/warm throughout the meal. The portion was smaller than I would like, but the taste was great! Bun No Hue was $16.99 and it had a lot of fish sauce taste. I probably will try to ask for less fish sauce if that's possible. The spice level and the noodles were delicious! The pho noodles were good! The broth was light so had to add in chili oil to add some flavor. Very clean indoor and TVs available to watch games.

    Steak Pho - Pho Tai

Pho Mai is a clean, modern spot that offers a solid variety of Vietnamese dishes & in the heart of Tempe/Chandler. The order: * Pho Tai (sliced beef) - $14 * Bun Bo Hue - $17 (served in a stone pot) The good: The pho tai was comforting and flavorful, and the bun bo hue had a bold broth that came out steaming hot in a stone pot. The restaurant was very clean and still had a decent number of guests even later in the evening, which speaks to its local popularity. We appreciated the ability to customize too; we requested the bean sprouts be pre-cooked and they happily accommodated. The bad: Portions were a bit smaller compared to other pho spots nearby, especially for the price. Still satisfying, but worth noting if you're used to more generous servings.

New Pho Mai location near me :D I'm so happy that there's new Pho Mai in this area, and it's spacious and clean, and by the grocery store, so there are plenty of parking. Folks here are friendly as well! I got to try Beef Rib Pho, it came with a big rib, broth was flavorful, good amount of meat, very comforting!

Egg Rolls Pork - Cha Gio
    Lei G.

The Egg Rolls Pork - Cha Gio were delicious and crispy. One of the shrimp in the Special Vermicelli - Bun Dac Biet was not cleaned. So that wasn't edible but the meat, noodles and vegetables were tasty. Unlikely to eat there again because of the uncleaned shrimp. DoorDash delivery was great.

I was in the area and in the mood for pho, so grabbed a pho tai here. If I'd known there weren't any pics, I'd have grabbed more! Cute clean spot with plenty of tables and the woman helping me was very nice. My order was packed well so nothing spilled. The pho broth is really good! You can taste the star anise but it's not overpowering, and it's not too oily. The meat was good, no gristly bits, though I did cut them all in half as they were a bit big! Still cut thin though.

Phở Tái and Gỏi Cuốn. Rare Steak Pho and Spring Roll = Delicious!!!
    Paul S.

I ordered the Phở Tái (rare steak pho) and Gỏi Cuốn (shrimp and pork fresh spring roll). The pho broth was very flavorful and authentic. The steak was cut perfectly and was plentiful in the bowl. All the side vegetables were fresh and expertly presented. The shrimp in the spring roll was very fresh and they were quite tasty. The peanut sauce had a great flavor, though I typically prefer it to be a little thicker and richer (not a big deal... it was still great). The service was friendly and prompt and the place was very clean. I will definitely be adding this to my rotation of regularly visited establishments in the area.

    Brisket Pho - Pho Nam
    Jennifer A.

I came here to try a new pho place and it did not disappoint. I got the brisket pho even though I usually get a chicken pho, but it was amazing. The broth had such a good flavor to it and the meat was so tender. The portion size is perfect, they also offer an extra large portion which might be too much. The restaurant was very clean and seemed pretty new. The staff were very friendly and attentive with us. I will definitely be coming back!

    Spring Rolls - Goi Cuon!

This is Pho Mai's second location, so it offers all the things you love about their other location in a newer (and possibly closer to you) setting! We were greeted immediately upon entering and told to sit anywhere we liked. Super friendly staff was prompt to bring us water and take our order. We started with the combination pork and shrimp Spring Rolls, which were tasty. And we opted for the other dipping sauce (not the peanut sauce, since an ingredient in it is hoisin, which has gluten). The flavor of the sauce was just right, and not too salty! My entree was Com Tom Nuong, which was perfectly delicious... and gluten-free as always! I highly recommend this dish! Overall rating: *****FIVE STARS***** Gluten-free rating: ****FOUR STARS****

    Mango Sugarcane Nc Ma Xoi

I came with a friend for lunch. I ordered the spicy noodle soup. It was very good. Not too spicy, but very flavorful. My friend ordered the same one but without meat. They have a huge selection of sugar cane drinks, like with strawberry, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, etc. I had a hard time choosing. Finally I tried the mango sugar cane drinks, it was so delicious!! The service was very good too. I would definitely come back.

I would definitely go here if you're looking for something new or seeking a rarer dish. They also have VERY generous portion sizing, so it's pretty good value. If you wanted something familiar like pho or rice dishes, I personally feel that other places do them better. I have a family member who went separately who said the banh khot (a rarer dish in the US) they ordered was better than the regular Vietnamese offerings. When my partner I went, service was a little slow and distracted. They currently have the World Cup games playing on the TV for both customers and themselves. I don't mind the fanfare around the excitement for the games, but the waiter did get our food order wrong due to the distraction :( The bussed tables were pretty clean, but a lot of tables were left unbussed for a very long time due to the game too. My partner and I went with the meatball and brisket pho and bun thit nuong (except this one came out wrong and was just bun cha gio). Cyclo's pho style is on the sweeter side. I was a little shocked at how sweet it was. The bowl size is huge and comes with plenty of noodles. They don't skimp. My partner's bun cha gio was okay. Cyclo is a little more special in that they put taro in their cha gio (egg rolls). We personally weren't fans of this, but it is unique. The taro gives the filling a slimier texture. Overall, my partner and I wouldn't return again for the food unless we wanted something more new, but we do love how good value Cyclo is.
