I called to order pick up and ordered house special bowl vermicelli and grilled lemongrass chicken. The house special vermicelli bowl includes egg rolls, grilled pork, grilled shrimp, and salad. The egg rolls were crispy and delicious. The grilled pork and shrimp were cooked perfectly - tender & not rubbery. The grilled lemongrass chicken was good too! They gave lots of chicken pieces and the chicken was flavorful & tender. I was surprised to never try Pho Mama before! Overall, i love the flavor and quantity of the food (and the price too). I will surely come back to try other menu here. This restaurant is next to Rite Aid in a shopping complex (along with Dollar Tree, Parilya, and Mr. Green Bubble). Parking is plenty. read more

Came here for an early lunch in a group of three and was seated quickly. The restaurant is nice and cozy with plenty of seating. I ordered the small number 5 pho and we had the fried shrimp cakes as an appetizer. Pho was the perfect amount and the broth wasn't heavy which I liked. The shrimp cakes were crispier than most places I go to which was convenient. Service was quick here but after getting food we didn't see much of staff even for some water. This is your typical Pho Restaurant, you walk in sit down, order and they will bring the food to you. Ambiance : They have booth style seating as well as tables and chairs. They just finished cleaning the table as I walked in. Typical Pho restaurant setup nothing special. Service : I was greeted by a nice waitress who promptly took my order. It was quick considering it was a Saturday night. Food : I ordered the Lemongrass chicken with Fried Rice and an Egg on top. Food came out quickly, I am glad I upgraded to Fried rice as white rice would have been too plain. The chicken was thigh meat cut thin, it was juicy and flavorful. It came with a nice salad with a little bit of lettuce, sliced tomato, carrot, daikon shavings, and one slice of cucumber, I would have liked some more cucumber and lettuce as it added a bit of freshness to the very rich flavorful chicken. There was a fish sauce I believe that came with the dish in a bowl, although flavorful, I didn't use it. All in all I feel the food was very flavorful. I ate everything and went back to work feeling satisfied. Drink : I drank plain old water with my meal which came in a very heavy glass. The water was delicious, I wonder if it was Tap water, or filtered tap water, or Arrowhead as it was very clean and crisp, no off tastes that you would usually find in Tap water. It also came with Ice. I would drink this water all day if I had to. It tasted like it must have been mostly Hetch Hetchy water from the Sierras if I had to guess. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the Pho as I went with a rice plate this time. Other people in the restaurant ordered the Pho so it looks like that is the most popular dish in this establishment. I've come here a bunch of times and I get the same thing everytime which is the rare steak pho. As of recent I really didn't like how the pho came out because it was so oily. It was just definitely different from how it usually comes out and I brought it up to one of the ladies and she basically is telling me she can't do nothing about it because it's already made and I already tried it. The right thing to do was offer me something else. I wanted her to take it and swap it for something else and she's saying she can't do that. If I wanted to get something else I would have had to pay for the pho as well as the replacement dish. I didn't eat it at all and she still made us pay and didn't take it off our check. Taste is average but ingredients are not clean. The cilantro clearly was never washed (see picture) - who knows what else they don't wash? The waitress said she would tell the female owner, but the female owner never addressed this issue with us and seemed nonchalant about it. Decent place to grab pho. We came here during dinner time on Friday and the place was not crowded at all and we were able to grab a table. The menu has variety of Vietnamese and also non-Vietnamese items (e.g. Pad Thai). Most of us ordered pho, I opted for the pho with rare steak and beef ball, the others chose variety of meats. We all got large, except for one person who got a regular size seafood noodle soup. We also ordered chicken wings and fried egg rolls as appetizer. Along with guava smoothie and a couple taro smoothies. The appetizers came out first, and the noodle soups came out super quickly afterwards. The smoothies came out halfway through our meal, so it does take awhile to get the drinks. The chicken wings were tasty, came with about ~5 pieces with basil, jalapenos, chunks of garlic and a side of sweet chili sauce. Love the veggies, especially the fried basil. The fried egg rolls were decent, came with 6 pieces and a side of dipping fish sauce. The pho came out super quick. We thought the large didn't look too much different than the regular. The portion of large was a bit small, not enough noodles but tons of soup. I was hoping there'd be a significant size difference between regular and large. The broth tasted clean and not too oily. It lacked some beef and spices flavor in my husband's bowl, but mines tasted OK. The large is about $13.50 for a bowl which is steep, yet standard now across the bay. The small/regular size looked almost the same as the large. If it weren't for the appetizers and smoothie, I'd be hungry. The smoothies were good though - not too sweet and the boba were soft/chewy. I've driven past this newish pho joint for about a year without trying. I think they opened right before the pandemic shut indoor dining down, so I think that's why. I'm just not a fan of pho in take-out format. But their dining room is open once again, so I've been trying them out. Glad I did. The flavors here are good. Almost Man Jose good, just won't find the more hard core dishes. Very suburban offerings, but they did surprise me, which I'll get to in a bit. Tendon/Rare Steak Pho, small bowl, ($12ish/4.5*) Very beefy broth, even more brown tinted than most broths, which I like. Perfect salt level and didn't feel dehydrated afterwards, so if there were MSG, it wasn't overboard. There's the classic aromatics present that defines a good pho broth. And I love how they garnish each bowl with a good sprinkling of chopped cilantro, green onions and sliced white onion. Really enhances the meat characteristics of the soup. The tendons were perfect to my liking, tender yet with a slight bite. It's also cut into nice thick slices so you can actually pick it up and bite into it. I hate small random pieces that you have to fish around for. The sliced beef I always request to get it on the side, so it comes completely raw. That way I can dip each piece as I eat, so each bite stays perfectly rare and silky smooth. If you don't ask for this, it will already be in the hot broth, and by the time you stick your chopsticks into there, all the beef will be fully cooked...womp womp. But you do you boo. Spring Rolls ($7ish/3.5*) Decently constructed, nicely wrapped and thick. The shrimp inside were pretty bland, I don't know why they wouldn't poach it in salted water. And the pork inside was their grilled pork versus just a roast pork. Sure the grill flavor added a nice dimension, but the texture was a lot chewier than the norm. So good on paper, but not in reality. The peanut sauce was good though, not too sweet and not too thick. Mixed this with the chili sambal and it fixed all the dish's shortcomings. Bun Rieu ($13ish/4.5*) This is where they threw me a curve ball. I usually love this soup, it's a broth with more of a tomato influence. The noodles are more pasta like (spaghetti to be exact) and the protein is usually a crab cake of sorts. The broth again was money. Definitely spicier than the pho broth and just has more layers. 2 huge chunks of tomato lay in the broth, but I'm sure a touch of tomato sauce/paste goes into the broth as well. I sipped the entirety of the broth, that's when I know I liked it. For the meats they did give several of those 'crab cakes' which look more like floating dumplings. It does have a good crab flavor, but the texture didn't do anything for me. It was like eating a crab flavored wet sponge. Lol. I think I like it more when it is more coarse, like a meat ball. But they also threw in some pork rib meat which had a nice chew to them. And even a few blood cubes, which I have never seen in this soup. Neither of these are also listed on the menu, but somehow ended up in my soup. I was pleasantly stoked at this bonus version, as I was expecting a more tame version. Extra half star for the curve ball. Iced Viet Coffee is legit. It is in one of those sealed milk tea cups, which I was skeptical in seeing, but the flavor is legit, strong and sweet. $5 though, but again it was large. Better than those tiny 3 sippers that you sometimes get. Still have to try their BBH, Pho Ga, Bo Kho and maybe a rice plate combo. Got my work cut out for me, and I'm not the least bit scurred. Bring it on! 4.5* rounding UP. Better than most. read more

Got their rare steak pho and while there was plenty of steak, it was completely cooked when I got it. The soup was oily and not flavorful and the noodles came in a huge clump. It's like they took the noodles out the plastic bag, dumped it into my bowl and poured the soup over. I also got egg rolls to try and they seemed like the generic frozen ones and they are also really small. They deep fry it fresh though because it comes piping hot! Quality here could be a lot better. My family and I have been there many times and order to-go many more. The menu is pretty robust, with all of the usual pho favorites, but their specialty options are...special. We've probably been to every Vietnamese restaurant within a 20 mile radius and we're always looking for a good Bun bo Hue. In general, American-Vietnamese restaurants handle pho pretty well. The best American pho I've had is easily comparable to the places I've been in Hanoi and other parts of Vietnam. Bun bo Hue is a tougher trick to pull off. Pho Mama does a pretty good job with their Bun bo Hue, and that's saying something. They're also very friendly people, and a family-run business. Plenty of parking pretty close. Price is very affordable, and the portions are good. Highly recommend. read more

This time I got it to-go, and I live fairly close, literally a 2 min drive so I wasn't worried about my soup temp. The pho lacked flavor. I wish the broth was more flavorful, but it seems that both times I got it, it was the same. The meat was eh, not much was given. I had to add a lot of hoisen sauce, sriracha, and lemon (they gave lemon) to try to up the flavor but it didn't really work. Not sure if I'd come back for pho again. Great Vietnamese restaurant, reminds me of Vietnamese food from East San Jose or SoCal which is a good thing. The broth is very clean and simple and not overly rich which I really appreciate. The noodles, meat, and vegetables are also bountiful and you feel like they aren't being cheap or dingy with their quantity. Always love the pho tai or pho tai nam, a perfect dinner. Sometimes instead of an appetizer we'll order a grilled pork rice combo to split into smaller portions with my 3 other friends. Love their grilled pork, marinated in Vietnamese lemongrass and flame grilled. It's always great mixed with broken rice and getting some of the meat flavor on the rice. Takeout is always very well packaged, soup lid has never come off and they use a clear container for the noodles and meat with the fresh vegetable toppings in a separate bag with hoisin and sriracha in small containers. read more

3 stars in generous. This would really be a high two star rating if I could. Let me start by saying that this place was slow AF. I've never waited for pho as long as I had waited tonight. I had a feeling too, since there were a bunch of tables waiting for their food when I came in. I ordered the egg rolls. 6 mini egg rolls. Not worth $6.96 Teo Chow/#12 had a nice lighter flavor broth. If you're familiar with Filipino food, it reminded me of sotanghon soup. BUT there was less than a tablespoon of ground pork. Amount of other ingredients were alright I guess. Chicken Pho- super duper skimp on the chicken. As you can see in the photo- that was ALL the chicken that came in the soup. Broth tasted like tinola (if you know what that is. Another Filipino soup). The other bowl was steak and tripe. I think there was a good amount of tripe, but not so much the meat. Tho portions are also smaller than other pho spots. So while their broths are good and are different from your typical place, I don't know if that's enough to compete or to draw me back in. read more

my family and i wanted to try out a new place and we decided on this pho shop last minute. there was one other family when we walked in but it quickly filled up after we sat down. the service was fast, friendly, and helpful. i ordered the seafood noodle pho and it was amazing. my parents got a beef broth based pho and they loved it as well. we'll definitely be coming back to this place! 10/10 read more

Okay, we live close by so we've been coming here since they opened. The food is usually really good and we're picky about pho, but over the last several months we have noticed the quality decline considerably. The service is still generally good, and the people are friendly.. BUT... the last at least 5 times we've ordered here, there's been something lacking. Whether its skimpy portions, or one small bag of veggies and ONE lemon for 3 soups, or one set of silverware for 3 meals. Now they charge for extra sauces or you can sub out one for more of the other, which is fine except you might only get 2 sauces at all. This is unacceptable for $15/soup, which is quite the jump from $11 pre-pandemic. THIS TIME THOUGH. I've had it. Theres a HAIR IN MY FOOD. A long black hair with highlight, not even just ON it but was IN THE SOUP NOODLES. The last couple times I've been in also, several staff in the kitchen were not masked or gloved while cooking and serving food. They looked at me funny and either pulled their mask up or walked further back once they noticed me standing there in my scrubs staring at them. This is food service people, and people are sick everywhere. GET IT TOGETHER. I know it's hot and uncomfortable, but so are the N95s and other gear we wear in the clinics all day everyday. I'm sad to say, we will not be back to our favorite pho spot. I'll gladly drive a bit further for better cleanliness standards. read more

I've been looking for delicious veggie pho since I'm far from my favorite one so I decided to try their veggie broth pho (which was not listed on the menu, I had to go in and ask). Here are some of our favorites: Combination beef noodle soup: Pho is nothing if the broth isn't unbelievably flavorful. They do it right here. Slices of brisket, well done beef, raw meat (packed separately from cooked items), and meatballs with a generous helping of noodles and a separate container of broth. They also include a bag with Thai basil, jalapeño slices, lemon, and sprouts. Lemongrass chicken combo: Hubby's fave. Delicious grilled, marinated chicken, egg on top of rice, 3 egg rolls, pickled veges on the side. Spring rolls: We always order this with our meals. Super fresh with shrimp and grilled pork and a truly tasty peanut sauce. Egg rolls: They stay crispy even when DoorDashed. Great crunch and the filling will make you smile. Pho Mama replaces Pho Union in Union City. Pho Mama is straight up run by Vietnamese. I didn't know Pho Union had closed down, so I had to try this new place out. They open early, which is nice. The interior has been repainted and redone (no more owls decor). The staff were very friendly and attentive as I took a seat. The menu was bigger with more options. I chose the Combination Beef Noodle Soup. There was a short wait as they were preparing the food. Soon my Bowl was delivered to my table. The portions were big, and it was tasty and filling. The menu is on a QR code but they also have standard menus available. We ordered the fried egg rolls and #5 & #7 beef noodle soups. Everything came out fresh and hot. Broth was tasty! You could literally see the lady rolling out the eggs rolls at the table next to us. Unfortunately, you could also see that the kitchen staff was not wearing masks hence the 3 stars.
