Whenever I'm feeling pho, I come here. The portions they give you is overwhelming for the price and the taste is very yummy! Much more generous than in Chinatown in Boston. Like most vietnamese restaurants, the sauces, dishes, and utensils are already available on the table so it's very convenient to your needs. The only thing I ever get is pho so I'm pretty much reviewing this merely on the soup. The only thing I could complain is that sometimes when I come in, they just point to a table that's empty and that's not very welcoming as a guest? This rating might be premature as I have only been here once. I was impressed off the bat by the decor and cleanliness....nothing fancy but way nicer than a hole in the wall. Fairly new restaurant. We were warmly greeted by the owner and staff...gosh these people are nice! Now to the food.....I ordered my usual, pork and shrimp fresh spring rolls and fried spring roll. I think the true test of a good Vietnamese restaurant is 1) nuoc nam 2) pork & shrimp spring roll (which should be made with mint !) 3)the pho. I think they make the best nuoc nam (dipping sauce) and the pork & shrimp spring roll (besides my mom...that is). The pho is pretty good too....not the best but still pretty up there....very fresh broth! What sold me was the appetizer....deep fried blue crab with hot peppers and onions! It was damn tasty! I was in desperate need of Vietnamese food and was overwhelmingly steered here by reviews. Upon walking in, my heart swelled with hope as it had all of the trappings of a great Vietnamese spot: Sriacha and spice rounders on the tables, strange, gold embossed paintings of elelphants and the Vietnamese country side, actual South Eastern Asian people eating. I was stoked- especially because it was actually pretty nice and clean inside, which is a rarity in the shit strewn wasteland that is Downtown Lynn. Unfortunately, hope ended with the food. Summer rolls (nime chow) were soggy and bland, cha gio (spring rolls) had to much wrapper and not enough filling, the vermicelli in the Bun Bit was just meh..... I mean, it all tasted okay, just not the swampy trek 8 clicks south through the Ho Chi Minh river delta to Saigon Flavor City. The food is good. Their pho is a little on the stingy side, and the meat balls cost an arm and a leg. The owner is very selective on her customer service. She knows who to kiss up to, and knows who to treat poorly. The customer service is horrible, and I believe that hey are surviving due to their location. They are very centralized and it makes lunch easy. But if you are in for a quick meal, please don't hesitate to eat here. It will fill you. I grew up coming here with my family and its still the only place I go to in the area for Vietnamese food. Their different noodle and rice dishes are always great. I've never been unsatisfied with my food and always spend so little to be happy and full. The owner is very friendly and nice. For a meal that's over 10$, it is not what you'll get at any other Vietnamese restaurants. There are a lot of Asian restaurants in Lynn and this one ranks among my favorites. There is a dish here that I keep coming back for and just writing this review is making my mouth water just thinking about it. That's their "Short Rib Cau" which is MOUTHWATERING! I've ordered it maybe every single time I've visited there and that's really the one main reason I go there because it's out of the way compared to the other Asian restaurants i mentioned earlier. There are a few gripes about this restaurant though that I have to address. 1. Their egg rolls are atrocious. For what you pay for.. you get a disgustingly small portion of pre-frozen egg rolls. I actually thought it was a joke when they brought them out! The lettuce that lay underneath it was more filling than the egg rolls themselves! 2. The shakes are not fresh but powdered. I cannot tell you how much of a difference that makes in taste but it's a lot. 3. The service is hit and miss. 50 percent of the time I'm there, they give me adequate service and the other half, it's sub par. Is it too much to ask for consistent service? For main staples like Pho.. this isn't a bad place to eat. Their main attraction is definitely their Short Rib Cau. But besides that, this place is just average. read more

I used to live right around the corner in Central Square and ate here quite a few times. What sucks: -location (Union St - yuk!) -service (they will take you order and bring you your food. We had to get up, go to the counter and ask for drink refill, bring them credit card etc). Although the girl is very nice. So I didn't mind getting up and asking for a refill, i just wouldn't leave a big tip LOL -interior (not nice or comfortable, more like cafeteria) What's grea: -food! this place is very pretty inside after their remodeling! nice and bright in there and clean. I usually order the combo Pho there which is good, but my opinion not as great as ones in Chinatown. Their beef I think is a little over cooked and sometimes i like the rounded steak medium on top. one thing I do not like is their thin skimpy EGG ROLLS. for the price its not worth it, you can barely taste anything. I would have to literally soak it in the fish sauce or dip it in the hot sauce. there are multiple waitress but everytime I go I ALWAYS have to get up to ask for an extra drink AND to PAY for my bill. read more

Exceptional pho here. The broth is rich w umami flavor and I suspect plenty of msg but hey pho isn't something I eat daily so it's ok for the occasional lunch or dinner. The meatballs are an add-on w pho dac biet but recommend it. The portion for pho noodles and meat was very generous. I also tried the soft-shell crab appetizer. It was better than decent. The batter could have been more on the crunchy side but still above average w plenty of green peppers, onions and sliced chilis. Tastefully decorated and clean. Attentive and efficient waitstaff. Plenty of 2-hr parking on Main Street. As I was eating I watched Mama San running operations and was very impressed- making sure all take-out orders were packed correctly; greeting her regulars, of which there were many, with a smile and small chit chat; going in and out of the kitchen; making smoothies- running things like a real boss lady. The avocado smoothie I had was decent. I find Dong Khanh's avocado smoothie in Chinatown is better. Have heard many good things about this restaurant and happy to have finally tried it out. I've been going to this restaurant for a couple of years and if it wasn't for it being in my hometown I probably wouldn't go here. Now let me explain, my ONLY reason for saying this is because of the owner. Me and the boyfriend visit so often that they already know our orders but I don't believe that gives the owner the right to yell the order at us before we even get to sit down. Also after her remodeling she started adding automatic tips to the bill which won't be that bad if it wasn't a $6 tip on a $8 soup. Okay, I will say upfront that this review is BIASED because I do not like Vietnamese food... except fresh spring rolls, really (which are excellent here!).. but I'd still like to comment because somehow, I still like this place.. First time I came here was with my in-laws and husband. Everyone really enjoyed their meal- I don't like tripe, so I don't eat those noodle soups, but they did look really good.. A great thing about this place is that the ingredients are always very fresh, I've noticed. The owner is so nice and friendly. I like the people here a lot. I don't know about George D's comment: "I do like the decor, it's very traditional" --- I'm not a real fan, but it is very comfortable here. Also note, this is Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine.. last time, I ordered "general gau's" chicken, but it's stir-fried and not deep-fried. it was simple and good- my husband had jelly fish salad (adventurous!) and actually loved it. Had take out. The fresh rolls were ok. They were lacking the minty and veggie crunch. The pho was delicious, but I asked the server for hoisin and hot sauce and got none. My wife works in the area tried the pho and said you have to go. We order two apps first that we're just ok. My wife orders the x large chicken pho, so not to be out done I order the x large beef pho. I was unaware that it would be served to me in a kiddie pool. Apron arrival it was very fragrant with the smell of cilantro and thai basil. After adding siratcha hot peppers and hoisin basically turning the already delicious broth into rocket fuel I attacked. I love this place. The staff remembers me and my entire family really. I'm Vietnamese and don't really speak it but they have been helping me understand it LITTLE BY LITTLE whenever I go here. It's a decent find considering the location in Lynn, as there doesn't really seem to be any other Vietnamese food places within quite a wide radius. Brags (+): Pretty tasty ingredients. Broth was a little on the sweeter side, but of course dousing in Sriracha usually does the trick. Service was pretty good as well. Beats (-): A little skimpy on the portion. Not as good as my moms of course but after a long drunken night, minh kys pho definitely hits the spot. Minh ky is located in lynn, don't expect fine dining. Expect to be asked what you want to eat and drink, receive it, but don't expect the girls to serve your pho on a silver platter. They do their job. When you go there, order a Pho, a cola, give them your payment with a good tip, and go home. They sell fast food and fast service. Since finding Pho Minh Ky 4-5 years ago I have returned regularly winter and summer for my own bowl of heaven, the pho. The broth is a delicious blend of flavors and the basil and bean sprouts served on the side are always fresh. The vermicelli (bun) topped with any combination of grilled pork, shrimp, egg roll, etc. is also excellent! The restaurant is clean. There's a nice multi-cultural mix of customers.
