I've always known Sacramento has a good Vietnamese food scene, but I had never gotten around to trying it until recently. Came here on a friday night and the place was full, but we were able to get a table for 2 immediately. We ordered spring rolls, fried chicken wings with a fish sauce glaze, and two bowls of pho. We didn't think there'd be a line at 10:50 AM, but I'm glad we came early since the restaurant was fully seated by 11:07. Service was quick, attentive, and super friendly. We ordered: * Iced Vietnamese coffee: A bit on the sweeter side (we usually take ours black), but still tasty. Most people would love it! * Half & half wontons (crab cream cheese + creamy jalapeño artichoke): Crunchy, creamy, and delicious. We actually preferred the jalapeño artichoke ones--they were different and SO good! * Pork sausage with crispy layers: Heads up--this dish comes with peanuts, so my fiancé couldn't really eat it (but that's our bad for not mentioning the allergy). My girlfriend told me about this place a while back, and we finally made our way in to check it out. When we arrived it was nice and bustling for the evening. We out name out on the wait list and waited maybe 15-20 minutes before out table was ready. While we waited I looked over the dishes online to get a better idea of what looked good, and immediately the crispy chicken, wontons and Thai iced teas stood out; this will come in handy later! Overall: Everything was nice and favorable and really well prepared. The appetizers really sold it for me here, as you can get really good pho at many places; including here. They had 4 size options ranging from x small to large. I chose the small size for the number 1 pho which looked like their combo pho. We ordered several items, including the pho. The pho broth was oily and it felt like it left a residue because of how oily it was. Let me preface this review by saying that my wife is Vietnamese and we grew up in San Jose, CA which has excellent Vietnamese food. That being said, I have to say that I am surprised PM has a bib gourmand, especially considering the caliber of other bibs and Michelin starred restaurants in the area. Service was lackluster and I imagine it was due to how busy they are since getting a bib. It's just above what I expect from a non-English speaking business and about 3 below from most American restaurants. When asked how our food was, before we could answer a customary "fine," the waiter was already cutting us off with an exaggerated "Great!" Just these experiences with the restaurant and staff would deter me from coming back or recommending PM. Food wise, everything was just alright. We started with the fish sauce caramel wings which were good and crispy but nothing notable. We also had the pork spring roll with crispy layers and it was also just alright. The dipping sauce was not good. I'd say just go to Quan Nem Ninh Hoa for spring rolls. Okay now the titular dish from the name of the restaurant: pho. They have so many delicious offerings on their menu, but since it was my first time there I had to try out their pho. I wanted lean meats so I got a #3 medium that includes lean beef, flank, and brisket. I like how they use stainless steel bowls to help keep the pho stay warm. Their bathroom is clean and nicely decorated! The broth was flavorful, but it was a little fatty to me because whenever I took a sip I could feel the residual on my lips. I should have gotten a large because I was still hungry after finishing my bowl. The portions here are on the smaller side. My friend who got a large felt the same way and said they were still hungry because it was not enough. The servers were friendly and attentive. The food was average, not bad but also not outstanding. I got the #1 and the meat was very tender but the tendon was still too tough. Unfortunately, the mango coco beverage was not what I expected. It was coconut milk with mango sweetener and it was too sugary. My partner got the Thai tea and it was overly sweet as well, all I could taste was the sweetened condensed milk. The service could have been better, the staff were miserable and inattentive (besides one of the workers, she was great). Not sure what the hype is so my friend and I decided to give it a try. What I liked about this place is that you could get different sizes pho. What I didn't like was how long you had to wait. We visited Pho Momma last fall on a Sunday and it was packed; about an hour wait and we ended up giving up and ordering takeout. Two pho's to-go which were subpar but we had chalked it up to take-out soup not being as good as when it's served fresh. Recently we decided to visit again and only had to wait 15 minutes. Me and my wife walked out feeling confused. Confused on why there was a long wait the first time we visited and confused on how this restaurant shows up in the Michelin guide. I accidentally kicked a half eaten eggroll when I was pulling out my chair. You can walk into most Vietnamese restaurants and get similar quality and tastes. The broth wasn't overpowering but still warming. Would probably skip if I came again. Pork Fried Rice: 4/5 - You definitely have to portion each bite so you get at least one piece of pork with your rice, otherwise you'll be chewing on something extremely bland. But together, it creates a very rich flavor. I would get this again if I came back, but it's not something I'm itching to eat again. Sweet Garlic Fish Sauce Wings: 4/5 - this was the only thing we tried that had an overpowering taste, but it was very tasty. The quality is on par with something you get from the frozen section at the supermarket. I'm glad these were only 4 for $6, but I would rather have my $6 back. Come for the cool name but stay for the great food! There are plenty of Pho restaurants in the area but Pho Momma is becoming my go to spot. Great, friendly service and nice traditional decor. I found this place is not that extraordinary. You can get the same kind of noodles/food anywhere you want. Also, It's really really small in there. You can hear your next table conversation really well. There is absolutely no privacy there. It's always cold in there. Also, their parking lot has homeless people sleeping in there. It's got a homeless bed and some old food next to his bed and some old stuff. It's kind of gross!! I don't want to go back to this restaurant. It's not that good! No way!! read more

I usually Doordash from here but I finally had the time to come in and sit down. It was busy for Thursday lunch. I got the garlic fish sauce wings and #4 pho. Both the wings and pho were pipping hot. Even after I've been eating for about 5 mins, biting into the wings they were still steaming. The wings were crispy and sauced up, just how I like them. The pho broth was savory and delicious, just enough flavor on its own. I added some of the chili oil, sriracha, and lime. I'll definitely continue to come for dine in when I can. Decent food, but way over hyped because of the Michelin guide. Better choices for Vietnamese food and dim sum in south sac/sacramento area. Good friendly service. Almost guaranteed a wait because of the hype.....but not the worth the wait. We waited an hour. Food we tried, #1 pho-good broth, but nothing out of the norm from other Pho restaurants. Salt and pepper wings w/ rice-ok, nice light batter but didn't really have the flavor of salt and pepper. Pork fried rice-average to below average flavor. Chili oil wonton-below average compared to other dim sum restaurants. Good sauce. Fried calamari-nice light batter, good flavor. Crab cheese wonton-good flavor Crispy rolled pork sausage spring roll-not bad/good, mainly because it's original/different. Bone marrow toast-majority not marrow. Mixture of meat off the bone and marrow. Shakes-Thai tea and Viet coffee coco shakes. Do not get the coco milk. Conclusion If there was no wait and live in the area, not a bad place for Vietnamese food. Food is not bad, just way overhyped because of the Michelin plate award. Definitely not worth waiting for. Super amazing food! Services was great and ambiance of the restaurant was cute and nice. 100% recommend eating here as their food definitely hits the spot. We came as a group of 7 around 5:20pm on a Sunday this place was packed! Good signs for a restaurant. It took about 10 minutes to get seated and we got our food within 10 minutes after ordering. I ordered a large #1 and it was the perfect dish to eat after a long day in the snow. Most of us ordered pho and we all thought the broth was pretty tasty. One of my friends ordered the Curry Beef Stew with rice and it was also really tasty! She actually got the last one as it was a popular dish on the menu. The beef was moist and tender, and the curry had lemongrass in its flavor profile. This eatery offered a Vegan menu for those specifically interested in non-meat items. The staff were attentive and came by to refill our water often. We didn't have issues with parking even though it was a smaller lot. This place does charge gratuity for a party of 5+. read more
