Meh. I ordered the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio here and it's just all noodles and veggies. There's barely any meat. I was really disappointed in the place because Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio sounded really good at the time! The meat didn't have much flavor to it. And so I had to put a lot of Nuoc Mam to make my meal have some flavor. And you only get one piece of Cha Gio. A nice thing they do do is they add a lemon to the water. Service is typical for a Vietnamese restaurant: sit, order, get food quickly, eat, and then pay at the front. It's pretty packed during lunch on the weekdays, but there was no wait. My family and I came here for a late night dinner on a Friday. It was about 6pm and we had to wait like 5 minutes. It was pretty packed but it was also one of the only restaurants open. The menu is pretty straightforward and I'm not sure which region Vietnamese food this restaurant serves. My gf always orders the pork chop over rice at Vietnamese restaurants and surprisingly, they didn't have it. I did notice that they had Cambodian style soup noodles and since I never see this option near where I live, I ordered it! My parents ordered the pho bo dac biet with the thick noodles. They said they enjoyed it, I tried their broth, and it was very flavorful as well. The noodles were soft and tasted fresh. I would get this in the future as well.  My sister ordered the roasted chicken with tomato rice. It looked ok! Nothing too special. My mom did say her chicken was tender as well. read more

The staff who works there is extremeley friendly and efficient. Went in during busy lunch hours and they were on top of it. Got seated in no time. I ordered the number 6. While flavorful, the broth was too salty for my taste. There is so much food for a small size that I wasnt eveb able to finish my small bowl. Best place to go on a rainy day, a large pho does wonders when it comes to warming you up. The broth is super rich and packed with beefy flavor. However the best thing here is the combo in which you can get any pho and any drink for about 12 dollars. I took advantage of this deal and ordered a rich creamy Vietnamese iced coffee which was absolutely amazing. What else is super impressive about this place is how quickly they bring out the pho and how friendly the service is, they are very attentive to the quality of your experience. This is something you dont usually find in a pho restaurant, that is what makes this place so great. I've been coming here since the early 2000s and it cannot be replaced as my favorite pho spot. I am crucial when it comes to rating Pho noodle restaurants. Almost all Pho places will serve the same type of noodles, meat and condiments but not the broth. When it comes down to some good Pho, it's all about the broth and that is it! Pho Nam is just OK to me and It tastes very similar to the large chain of Pho Hoa restaurants that are all over the Bay Area. I always get the Pho with beef and meatballs (Pho tai bo vien). They give you good chucks of meat and a lot of noodles. They also offer rice plates which are also just OK. I usually get the rice place with pork (Com tam bi thit nuong) when I crave it. Overall, I rate this place 3 stars. I only go here for Pho because I live in Sunnyvale and we don't really have a lot of choices. The good places are down in San Jose. read more

I work in this area. And, typically, I either find my way to Pho Lovers (on Maude) or Pho #1 (off El Camino) when I'm in the mood for mid-week Vietnamese. A few weeks back, a co-worker invited me to lunch and our party ended up at Pho Nam. I'd been to Adamson's and Popeye's in the same parking lot, so I'd been keen on trying Pho Nam for a while. Unfortunately, while nothing jumped out as blatantly offensive, nothing established itself as particularly good, either. The prevailing feeling I'd left Pho Nam with was "mehh." As an FYI: I got the beef pho. I'm not authentic enough to enjoy things like tripe, so I typically opt for steak (most places serve brisket, flank, or something similar). The meat was definitely chewier than my usual spots. The broth, also, tasted a little flat, lacking that big, savory flavor that you typically expect from pho. I'm not a pho expert, by any means, but I know what I like. And, as of now, I'm going to stick with my current crop of pho options. Pho Nam, despite its' friendly service and bright interior, did nothing to convince me that it belongs in the rotation of usual spots. read more

Service is very fast and the portions are extremely generous. There was lots of flank, tendon, and brisket in my large #7 Pho. First time I went here was for a Meetup Dinner. Second was after my own group's volunteer event at RAFT. I love their Pho! I think it is right to have a favorite Pho place in each city. :-) Their servings were huge and the broth just made everything right. Lots of meat in one huge bowl. The grilled pork on my vermicelli was actually beef and very chewy and/or undercooked, also had a lot fatty parts (inedible to me). I always order my go-to - rare stake pho and Vietnamese tea - and they make it perfectly every time. I LOVE pho, and have been trying new pho places since I moved back to Sunnyvale a few weeks ago. Tonight, I gave this place a try. I was taken to the seat right away, and the waiter came to take the order. It was OK up until then. Then only 3 minutes after I ordered, a very grim looking guy brought the bowl of pho. From this point on, it got really bad. * First, the server was so NOT the kind of people who should be serving food. Grungy looking, and did not speak a word. No pleasantly or nothing. Just put the food down on the table, and left without a word. * Cheap plastic everything. Dirty reusable plastic chop sticks, dirty plastic bowl, spoons, and dishes on which held some wilted bean sprouts. * Because I was hungry, I ordered Large. The bowl looked even smaller than the regular size bowl at other places. There's hardly any broth in the bowl, but bunch of noodles that were stuck to the plastic bowl (this means that the noodles were already put in the plastic bowl, so all they do is put the broth over it). * Very marginal pho -- I almost walked out at the sight of the bowl, but decided to try the taste of the THING at least. Very mediocre. It's not good enough to bring me back to this joint. I lost my appetite halfway because I started tasting MSG more than anything. * It was supposed to be a Rare steak pho, but what I got was a few slices of TOUGH, OVERCOOKED, piece of some meat that didn't taste like anything. * After the food came, no one came by to check on the food or anything. No customer service, no tip. The way they price their food (very pricey for what they serve), the tip is already included I gather. This is one of the few Pho places I will NEVER set my foot in again even if it's the last pho place on Earth. In short, don't waste your money eating here. Pho Nam was the staple pho location for my family for quite some time-- only recently have we opted for another location. This is a humble pho establishment, and the shop's physical appearance has suffered over time. The interior definitely reflects its age. If you want a clean and pretty pho shop, Pho Nam might not be the best choice for you. That being said, the service at Pho Nam is very attentive and efficient, and I have never been let down by the speed at which I have been serviced here. The pho itself is well-made and, although not exceptional, still yummy. The eggrolls and springrolls, however, seem to have sadly gotten worse over the years-- the former being too oily, and the latter coming off as a bit stale. I no longer frequent this establishment, as it is further away from us than the new alternative that we have found. This is by no means a reflection of Pho Nam's quality, which, although has waned over the years, is still very much capable of delivering a promising bowl of tasty goodness. I was in this plaza at the French dip place and saw it and realized it was my favorite pho place from 5 years ago. I came here a couple days later with my friend. I love Pho. Especially, when I'm hungover after a night a drunken debauchery. My friends and I have been here almost every Saturday/Sunday morning for the last 4 weeks. And the place is pretty solid! I'll usually get a #1 with meatballs, thai ice tea, and spring rolls. Pretty much always the same, I never stray. Variety is the spice of life, but when you're hung the f-over, sticking with what you know is the remedy, is always key. Remember that! Annnnnddd sometimes it just hurts to think about what you want to eat when you've drank a silo worth of liquid the night before, but I digress. And considering this is a Vietnamese joint., the service is pretty awesome. If you've been to some other Vietnamese places, you know that the service can be pretty much shit. Price is good, portions are generous, and service is quick. (And I have yet to find a foreign object in my pho.) So you can't go wrong! Unless I find a foreign object in my pho/food, I will cop this place out quicker than Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries marriage. So keep up the good work Pho Nam! Edit: Oh, and I have a Caucasian friend, who doesn't like pho (I know what the pho right!?). A 3-stars bowl of pho. I ordered the Pho Tai. The meat should be on the raw side, but it wasn't. The few pieces of meat I did have were rather chewy. The broth was not very flavorful. From the outside, it's kind of weird looking and cheap - reminds me of church, but in reality, it's really good and I love it! This is my go-to place for Pho, mainly because it's cheaper, faster, and relatively cleaner than other Pho places I've been to. (pronounced "fraud") I don't know what authentic Vietnamese food is supposed to be like, but I know I like theirs. I often get the chicken pho, with vegetables added (for a small extra charge). I add hoisin sauce, sriracha and squeeze a bunch of lime/lemon juice into the broth because that's the way I like it. Their rice plates are good too. I think their crispy spring rolls are pretty dang good and their Vietnamese coffee will knock your socks off (in a good way). The people who work there are really friendly (even the one lady who serves the drinks sometimes is friendly enough. . . we gave her a certain nickname, inspired by that "Soup" guy on Seinfeld. . .smile and say thank you to her, and she might even mumble a "you're welcome" back) and the service is fast. This review is for the beef stew I tried there last night. An ode to the beef stew if I have to name this. This stew is the God of all beef stews and the best I've tasted in a year. Tender, juicy, big chunk of olfactory pleasure complete with tasty rice. It nearly derailed my quest to vegetarianism. The place has a no-frill look to it. You go in and pretty much seat yourself. Nothing to comment on in terms of service - you order, you eat, you pay, you get out. The seats are not condusive to post-dinner conversation. Boy were we surprised when we walked in here at 1:30pm on a Sunday afternoon. When was the last time there was a waiting list for pho?! Perhaps it was because of the cold front yesterday... but seriously, a wait list past lunch time? I have to give it to them though, I don't know what they do behind the kitchen, but they come out with your scorching hot bowl of pho in 30 seconds.
