They are open again and we are thrilled! This is our favorite neighborhood pho place! We have not been able to come in over 7 months as they were closed. But we are thrilled they are back!! I had high hopes for Pho OK but it was literally just okay for me. The main reason for my mediocre rating of the pho was the rice noodles. They were so overcooked that they were falling apart when I tried to pick them up with my chopsticks. Otherwise, the meat and broth were probably 4-star worthy and the portion size was generous. This is a great little mom and pop shop. When I came in and got the menu.... it was simple and straight to the point. They have a small list of items compared to a lot of the other pho shops in the area. In addition, the restaurant was clean and didnt have that chlorinated smell I often deal with when you get into one of these pho shop. I stuck with the pho tai bo vien, which has always been a classic. The broth was good... and not fatty, which I like as I am getting a little heftier day by day. The noodle texture and size was perfect for me. In addition, the filet mignon was tender when it came out, which is often not the case with some other places where its overcooked and comes out like rubber. My only complaint was that I thought their dac biet rice plate special was the traditional pork and egg and rice plate... but ended up as a combination fired rice. A MUST TRY SIMPLY THE BEST PHO I've had in DFW!!! Authentic, great protein portions and broth that is incredible. Don't forget the vegetable accessories. Like none I've had before except in Houston or NYC. We'll be back. Try B8 and BBH. Have just gone again 6/3 and it was even better than last time. Give it a try, these are the types of businesses who use great ingredients and prepare without additives like MSG etc adding flavor by doing it the right way, the slow and long way. If you want great Vietnamese food in Richardson then Pho OK is for you. Came here for lunch and had their Hu Tieu Tom Thi Muc (8.25$) and Bun Bo Hue (8.25$) and both were very good. Both dishes had nice flavor, not the best I've had but still relatively good. I love their portion size and prices, probably the best in Richardson for a Vietnamese restaurant. The owner/server was extremely nice and friendly making it hard not to leave a big tip. I absolutely recommend Pho Ok to anyone that like to try Vietnamese food. Literally just ok. The food is good but the wait wasn't worth it. I called ahead to order 3 sandwiches, was told over the phone it would take about 20 mins. I arrived and expected to wait a little but it took a total of 50 minutes to receive my food. Other restaurant patrons had come and gone by the time I received my order. I could see the sandwiches sitting behind the counter being neglected. There were 5 people behind the counter too so plenty of staff. I was checked in with by one of the staff which was nice. May have better luck dining in, but I wouldn't recommend this place if you need something on-the-go within reason. read more

Then I got the hu tieu ga. Which is suppose to be a meat broth but when it came out it had a seafood broth. I'm allergic to seafood AND the menu didn't say it was a seafood broth. The broth was also very overpowering that u basically couldn't taste anything else. Then we got the rice dish with pork chop and egg. It was ok, but that dish is also really hard to mess up so.... I don't think this place knows how to work efficiently when busy. We went in for a late lunch after 1:15pm. A worker looked at us but did not greet us. Nothing. We thought this was one of those places where you seat yourself, so we looked around. There were about 5 tables not used, but with dirty dishes. We saw one worker clean up a table (just took away the dishes... didn't wipe the table) and left, so we took that as a sign to sit, so we did. We got our menu and water, and ordered. We ordered 2 bowls of Pho and 2 Iced Coffee. The server started making the Coffee right away. However..... we didn't get the Coffee til after we got our Pho which was 35 minutes later! I think they could have brought out the Coffee before the meal to calm hungry angry patrons... When we got our Pho, they didn't apologize for the wait time. They didn't bring out our Bean Sprouts, Basil, Jalapeño plate so we had to ask. Every table has Sriracha but not all has Hoison sauce so we took it from another table. The Pho was ok. The only thing I enjoyed was the Tenderloin meat on my Pho Tai. As customers left after finishing their meal, I watched to see if the tables would be cleaned but nope. I had been here a few times for pho before and felt moderately positive about the experience: the broth is super tasty, but they don't have some of my favorite cuts of meat (fatty brisket) and the noodles tend to be stuck together. And then I got their pork banh mi on a lark. And suddenly I was going 4 times a week! This is the best banh mi I've ever put in my mouth!!! The meat is savory and seasoned, the bread is slathered in some kind of pate, and the chopped veggies add a freshness to every bite. There is a tangy goodness to it. You do have to be careful with the big jalapeños because your lips will burn if you don't tuck them deep into the sandwich before you bite. And oh my word. The bread is crusty and fresh and perfect. Seriously the very best Pho we have ever had! Broth was perfect - perfect salt level and a nice brownish color without a bunch of floating grease. So much beef tenderloin that was so soft, pink, easy to chew and not fatty at all! Lots of bean sprouts, leaves, lime & jalapeño. Plus they use red onion instead of the cheaper yellow onions in the soup, which gives it a much better flavor. Loved the cilantro in the soup - nice touch. The portions of the beef, noodles, sides, etc were VERY generous. Service was fantastic! People were so kind and didn't hover at all. Couldn't believe we were the only ones in here tonight. This place should be PACKED all the time! Next time my Vietnamese daughter in law is in town I'll make sure to bring her here. I'm sure she will be as impressed as I am tonight. By far, our favorite pho restaurant! The broth is so rich in flavor that you could just drink the broth itself. It is true authentic pho bone broth. We usually get a small pho tai serving, which is actually very large and filling. As much as we may try, we've never been able to finish an entire bowl. Additionally, the bahn mi are delicious! The grilled pork bahn mi is our favorite; they add a sort of gravy sauce in the bread that is just delectable. The restaurant itself is clean, spacious, and quiet. You have to wait to be seated by a host, however we have never experienced a wait time. Jonathan (I believe he is the young son of the owner) is both adorable and a wonderful server! He always works so hard, running back and forth between tables. Service is great and the food comes out hot to your table. The two downsides I have noticed however are: 1. Lunch rush can be very busy - it can take a half hour to get your food after you place your order. If you're on a lunch break, I recommend doing take-out and to try to call it in 20-30 minutes in advance. 2. Speaking of take-out, there have been times when they don't pick up their phone for orders (usually during peak hours). Even though it rarely happens, sometimes placing to-go orders can be hit or miss. Despite those two things, Pho Ok serves hands down the best pho I've had in Texas! More like Pho Awesome! They put PLENTY of meat in your pho unlike many other pho places. I ordered their large combination pho and it came with plenty of fresh vegetables and probably the most amount of meat I've ever seen in a pho. Their meat comes out medium rare like it should and has nice thickness to it. Their broth is not the best I've had but is still better than most pho places! I've never had homemade made from scratch pho, but I'm sure it would taste like their pho if I did. 7.50 for a large pho is very cheap too especially with the large amount of meat. I left this place feeling more full and satisfied then if I were to eat at other pho places in the Richardson area. I came in during late lunch hours that the place wasn't busy and there was only one lady serving the tables. She didn't know English very well but I didn't have trouble getting the right food. My total came out to be 8.12 including the tax so I handed her eight dollars first and was looking for change when she told me it was okay. That was a nice small gesture of her but I gave her the change anyway lol. One thing that is weird about this place is that they do not play any music what so ever. Finally a Pho place that is more than OK :) My friends and I decided to go checkout this new pho place on Campbell and 75 that just opened this week. The service was quite good considering that they just opened. Also it is very clean and I can only hope they will maintain it. As to the food, it was all good. I personally ordered the Pho (P1). The broth was tasty and I of course spiked it up the way I like it! What I liked was that it was not oily, and best part was it was not too salty like the way others make it. I would say it is quite healthy as far as Pho is concerned. I could have personally settled for more meat in my Pho, but its definitely very good and I would go back any day for it. My wife had the vermicelli & grilled chicken breast dish and that was really good as well. Our friends ordered the traditional Vietnamese dish called Bun Bo Hue which is a spicier broth dish with all kinds of interesting stuff in it. Supposedly this dish is really hard to make and there is only one restaurant in Dallas that does a descent job, which incidentally happens to be located right next door to Pho OK called Tay Do. Allegedly people drive for over an hour to eat at Tay Do for this Bun Bo Hue dish. Their feedback was that Tay Do better start quivering because Pho OK's Bun Bo Hue knocks the socks off Tay Do's version, and also provides a great alternative for people who want a change of atmosphere from time to time. It used to be a Quiznos ... it remained closed for some time and then we saw someone start to fix the place up. Since Pho OK is a very short walk from work I was able to monitor the progress. Finally we saw some signage and knew it was going to be a Vietnamese restaurant. The first time I ate at a Vietnamese restaurant I knew I liked their food. Then I tried Pho and never liked any soup better. Since then I have eaten pho all over the city and when I'm traveling, I look for it wherever I land. 6th Street Austin has a nice Pho. In fact, I've never had bad Pho (lucky I guess). All that to say, Pho OK is right at the top of the list. There is only one restaurant I'd rate as high, a much larger concern and gets a nudge for atmosphere. Pho OK is definitely a family affair. Mom works diligently to prepare the meals. Pop helps her while working to take orders, fill orders and run the register. Whether it is brother or cousin, I'm not sure, pitches in as well. Yesterday, what I thought was a friend/customer got up and took my order. These folks scurry around getting the job done. The food - hot, fresh and delicious. The guys at work are B5 fans. The look on their faces when they're eating tells the story. I think some of them purposely leave their lunches at home so they can justify eating the B5. Me? I'm a pho fan. Pho Tai is my go to. I've tried several other dishes and loved them ... but - Pho is my love (even though their Chicken soup is a marvel). If there is a drawback to the place it would be that as a small family run business, crowds will delay your meal. The Pho OK fans don't let that get them down - they wait. I did not say their service is slow, I am saying they only have so many hands, which they keep busy until the meals have been served. Vietnam, aka Pho, restaurants are all over the place. Pho OK! is beyond just "ok." It's more like "Pho AMAZING!" Being a Vietnamese American foodie, I've tried a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the Dallas Metroplex. I definitely have to say that Pho OK! is one of the better Pho places here in Dallas with the perfect, authentic flavors that hits home for many of us. My first time there, I tried the Bun Bo Hue and the ice coffee (cafe sua da). My dad had the pho. Both of us were, right off the bat, really pleased with how much meat they put in. Our #1 pet peeve being that there's too much noodle for too little meat. I was pretty happy with my bowl of Bun Bo Hue. It was spicy enough to appease the taste buds of a Vietnamese with Hue descent, but at the same time, not so spicy that it's unenjoyable. My dad also said that the pho was very flavorful with the broth really packing a punch. The ice coffee was also really yummy and sweet. Just what one would need to survive midterm week :) Day 2. Yes, there's a day 2. This time, we tried the rice with shrimp, grilled meat, and sunny-side up egg. The seasoning of the shrimp and meat were on par, and the plate, in its entirety, was really filling with plenty of shrimp, meat, and egg to eat. Overall I was pretty happy with food and service. I would definitely recommended to anyone looking for a reasonably priced place to eat authentic, delicious Vietnamese food. The only thing holding back the 5th star is the time waiting for the food.
