My wife had the spicy beef noodle. It was horrible. I had the special Pho you think that they ran out of meat. I mostly wanted tripe and tendon there was two tiny pieces of tendon (about the size of a teaspoon) and one tiny piece of tripe. Not only was it overpriced the food was horrible all of it. Cheap bastards. The vegetables we got were wilted. I guess if you didn't know Vietnamese food you would eat. But if you do know Vietnamese food you won't come back. This 3 star is based on the Pho Dac Biet. My bowl came out and it was warm not hot like the way it's supposed to be. The fresh herbs given was very limited but you need to ask for more. The broth to me was not very flavorful for restaurant quality. Meat to noodle ratio was good. The quality of meats were good. I am a bit of a pho snob having moved hear from just south of San Jose CA last year. I've have pho at about 25+ places in and around the South Bay. Please tell me this isn't the best Louisville has to offer. The egg rolls were good but 2 small egg rolls for $3.50? I got the beef pho because I just wanted broth a noodles. What I got was a bowl of five-spice. There is so much five-spice you can't taste anything else. It was overpowering. Really inedible. Maybe cut the five-spice down by about 99%. Clean, friendly staff, good iced Vietnamese coffee...but that's it. The pho broth was completely tasteless, all the meat was over cooked and tough, bean sprouts/veggies were old. The service was excellent. My boyfriend enjoyed his milk tea. We ordered the vegetable pho and it had little flavor and undercooked carrots. I was craving some good vietnamese food recently and saw that Pho Phi had just opened and decided to give it a try. BEST DECISION I'VE MADE! This new restaurant offers a modern twist to delicious, authentic, genuine vietnamese cuisine. I ordered the classic Pho Tai Chin and was pleasantly surprised by the rich flavor that was present in the broth. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant. Only problem I had was the noodle. It seemed that the noodle was prepared long before the order so it was sitting in the soup as a chunk. So disappointed in so many ways. That said I'm just going to talk about my take out rice bowl. First they got it wrong after they asked 3 times if I wanted rice or noodles. I said rice all 3 times, and got noodles. When I over heard a server telling the kitchen staff it was wrong, they wiped out the noodles with a sink rag, and I stopped them before he put rice in the container, mid air. I got to work with the dish, 80% rice, 20% over cooked veggies- in fish sauce- gross. No soy sauce in the bag, just hoisin and sriracha. Servers were nice but stressed. It's so so. There is really no Vietnamese Food scene in Louisville, I've lived in Boston and Orlando, so I'm used to flavorful broth and big chunks of meat. It is not horrible but there is room for improvement. Pho broth takes hours to make maybe a whole day to get that deliciousness that Pho is known for. You won't find that here. Asked for large B5, a noodle bowl with pork and egg roll and some veggies. When the food arrived it was a bowl of pho with chicken, so they take it back and leave me waiting with no food while the 9 other people I'm with are chowing down. They come back with a B5 but in a size small. I even tipped them when I paid and still received two wrong orders. Total was 14 for a bland noodle bowl. My first time at Pho Phi and it was okay. Their portions was good a bit too generous on the pho noodles and spring roll noodles. With Pho too much noodle, there will be no broth left. The noodle will absorb all of it and grow in size. Plus my broth was lukewarm. No flavor in broth. I think we will give it another try sometime in the future. I'm at the Shelbyville Rd Plaza frequently and I love Vietnamese food. So I was intrigued when I noticed this new place taking over the old fancy burger spot (that also had rolled oysters?). I think it just had too much competition from Wild Wings next door- they've got burgers too. Maybe that's why they tried rolled oysters? Seemed like a strange offering for a fancy burger place... Anyway, it took a LONG time for Pho Phi to finally open for business (which already gave me some apprehension) but as soon as it did, I gave it a shot. My favorite kind of Vietnamese dish is a vermicelli bowl with pork and I've had it at Vietnam Kitchen and Lemmon Grass Cafe and both are great. So, I ordered the same thing at Pho Phi. I had to pay first at the counter (as well as specify a tip) all before sitting down and having my meal brought out and before experiencing any subsequent service that may (or may not) justify a tip. I get technology and how cool it is but I do NOT like being presented with a touch-screen for the purposes of paying for a sit-down meal before I even sit down... much less, pay a tip before I've even received any service. Too many places expect you to pay and tip upfront which I think is a BAD idea and I resent essentially being asked for a tip before anyone has actually done anything for me! This encourages people to feel like they are entitled to extra money whether they actually do anything to earn it or not. This was a big red flag for me right away. I realize many people don't mind or care about this but it is one of my dining pet-peeves. I mean, what if the service or food is horrible? Do you ask for your tip back? Sure you can complain, but at this point, they already have your money. Just feels like the whole notion of tipping has turned into another way to guarantee a boost to the profit margin without actually doing anything. The incentive is upside-down. I guess you can just simply not come back but that isn't the point. Tipping is a form of feedback as to how you are doing. If you get it up-front, that isn't feedback.... it's "feedfront" and doesn't do what it's designed to do. As it turned out though, the service was fine, if a little aloof given the fact that I was the ONLY customer in the dining room. When I got my pork vermicelli bowl, it seemed rather small... the bowl itself was not very big AND it was only about halfway filled. Another red flag. Given the price (which was higher than either VK or Lemon Grass- third red flag), I expected the portion to be AT LEAST on par with them. The food itself, to my great relief, was excellent. The grilled pork was so flavorful and succulent. Everything else about the food was excellent as well. However, considering the negatives I mention above, I never could justify making another trip back in, even given its extremely convenient location for me. It also felt a little cold and impersonal. This is a chain and they've imposed too much of a calculated formula onto what aught to be a more intimate and authentic Vietnamese cafe dining experience.. at least in my opinion. With family-owned and run places like Vietnam Kitchen and Lemongrass Cafe, if I'm in the mood for a vermicelli bowl, I'll be happy to go a little out of my way. Pros: flavor of food is excellent, location (heart of St. Matthews near The Mall and main post office) Cons: impersonal corporate chain feel, small portions, must pay and tip up-front at the counter when you order, service aloof, quantity/experience doesn't justify the price, especially when compared to other local Vietnamese restaurants. read more

Food is below average. Rude teenagers run the counter. Pitcher for beverages fell on the floor and server immediately picked it up and placed on the counter to be reused, disgusting and unsanitary! Employees had almost all the chairs on the tables by 8:30 pm. Food was too expensive for the quality.
