We had a party of 25 people and called ahead and they were able to accommodate our party and the service was very quick and the other 2 times the takeout was delicious! THE BEST Pho I have ever had! I ordered the pho special today called Pho Bo Ko, I think that's how to spell it. It was a Pho Beef Stew served with a side of fresh lemongrass, cilantro and jalapeño that you can add to your Pho according to taste. This Pho had stewed fresh carrots minimally cut, a thick broth, tender beef and of course noodles. The service here was great! They were so polite and the food was hot. The environment immediately made me feel relaxed and welcomed. It's a great lunch and dinner spot, and I could see it being a great place to bring a date. I AM IMPRESSED! Our server was super nice, friendly, and helpful even after we mentioned 3/6 of our party was vegan. He didn't fully understand the concept though, telling me I had to drink milk for protein. Nevertheless, he recommended a couple of dishes, which we should have listened to because the dishes we chose ourselves were meh. They were the vegan pho, banh mi, and vermicelli noodles. The vermicelli noodles was the least bland of the three in my opinion. Other Vietnamese restaurants in the Richmond area have more flavorful tofu for this dish, but I did appreciate the abundance of vegetables here. All in all, it's possible to have delicious vegan Vietnamese food. I have to just add an update since we last reviewed. We don't live anywhere near this place but we drive 40 minutes just to eat here. We actually are ok with our holiday shopping at the mall JUST so we can stop here on our way home; it makes the holiday stress melt away. i recently went into pho saigon just because I was driving through and it was just off of the highway. It was so amazing. I had the Pho Tai with ginger (#12 i think) and it was so good. Please Read: Went there for lunch with a few coworkers and ordered one of the seafood Pho's and stated to the waiter what my food allergies were. When I got it, I immediately knew that there was beef broth in it so I simply asked them to give me one with vegetable broth since I don't eat beef/pork/chicken. When they brought it back, it was the same noodles, seafood and veggies just with different broth. Are you kidding me? I asked for the manager immediately but the waiter knew what she had done so they sent over a dud (you'll see below how I found out this was not the manager) instead to fix the issue. Only at that point did they bring me a fresh dish but it had took so long I was over it. Before we left, I went looking for the manager again. One of the employees asked me was everything okay and I asked if I could speak to management. This time, the real manger comes out and I explained what happened along with all of the cross contamination that took place. She told me that the menu states that there is beef broth in the Pho. I told her to show me because you know, I can read! She opened the menu and to no surprise to me, she didn't find it and stated that it used to be there and blah blah blah. I had to explain to her the ethics behind what took place first and then the cross contamination. Didn't expect for her to make it right by not making me pay for it so I didn't get mad when she proved me correct with that. I had the worst Pho in my life so far. I ordered Chicken Pho. 1) The broth in the Pho was as clear as water. It didn't have any flavor. (The broth in Chicken Pho is made of chicken bones. I would've liked beef broth in Chicken Pho but reading from the review posted by another person, it looks like that isn't good either). 2) The chicken pieces tasted stale and rancid with warmed-over flavor. Very bad taste. 3) The chili oil sauce they have on the table tastes very different in a bad way from what the other restaurants typically have. 4) They do not have soy sauce on the table. I asked for it but the waiter misunderstood and gave it along with our take-out order. 5) The lime they gave us was 1/8th of a lime. Common Pho Saigon.. you're giving us stale chicken in hot water. At least give us bigger lime slice, soy sauce and quality chili oil. My friended ordered some spicy garlic chicken with rice and it tasted good. So, if you love Pho or want to introduce Pho to someone, I would advice not to have it here. Yummy pho for a cold wintry day! My husband and I came here during a quick trip to Richmond and had a good experience overall. Service is fast (food came out in 8-10 minutes) and the staff is very attentive. We started with fried spring rolls which definitely come out hot from the fryer so be careful! The appetizer comes in 2 rolls for $4-5ish so we were pleasantly surprised to find them to be decently sized and not tiny. As other reviewers have noted, their pho broth is sweeter than other places, which I had never tried before, but still found delicious. My husband got the house special grilled pork vermicelli bowl; it came with a soup and fried spring roll. The pork was marinated well and was very flavorful. Overall, the price was pretty decent - $30 for 2 entrees, an appetizer, and an IPA. We would definitely stop by again the next time we're in town! read more

The fried calamari at this place is crack. I highly recommend it for appetizers. This gem of a place has yet to disappoint me and is great in many ways. For one, I consider them more gourmet and "kicked-up" Vietnamese. What I mean by this is not the normal identity crisis that many ethnic cuisine places at times encounter. These folks take something incredibly awesome already like Pho soup, and offer an Oxtail & beef flank Pho. It was deliciousness on a cold night with all the awesomeness that Oxtail adds to everything and a bit more star anise than a normal Pho soup, which I loved. i have NEVER eaten a bad meal here. This restaurant may not just be for when you want to shove Pho or other Vietnamese awesomeness that God blessed us with down your gullet. This also is for when you want to take your woman to a nicer spot than the normal PHO house you religiously attend and be able to have a nice cocktail, or a nice wine, etc, in a dimmer lit setting for possible smooching and eye contact, with oxtail breath and oxtail stickiness still on your lips, for a similar price point as your normal Pho "church." Yes I jest. Their food offering is creative, way past status quo, and the owners seem to "get it" in every way. As an example, about a year ago, my wife and I were given tickets to Sheryl Crowe at Innsbrook After Dark. We were feeling peckish but it was late. We arrived here about 5 minutes AFTER they closed. As we were walking back to the car, te owner followed us out and invited us back in and FED US some incredible soft shell crabs that they had on special that night. My husband's soup was delicious. It was not overly fishy and spiced perfectly. He was hesitant to put any additions to it because of this. My pho's broth was cooked to perfection. There was a bit too much rice noodles added but I just didn't eat them all. I like how the bowls were not super huge but rather a regular portion size. Avocado bubble tea. Just get it and ask questions later. No, but seriously, if you're a fan of avocado and tapioca pearls then you've gotta try Pho Saigon's version. Nothing in it tastes artificial and the avocado flavor is strong and amazing. If this place was just a tad closer to my house then I would absolutely become a regular if for no other reason than this bubble bevvie. As others have mentioned, Pho Saigon is located in a West End strip mall off of Broad St - I certainly wouldn't have stumbled upon this place on my own. Thankfully, Yelpers steered me in the right direction when I was on this side of town earlier in the week. It was lunchtime and I was hungry and itching to try a new place. I've been to the FedEx across the street a few times, but somehow never noticed Pho Saigon tucked away in the neighboring shopping center. I was actually more impressed by the interior than I expected to be. I sat at the bar while my take-out order was prepared and had time to appreciate the interesting light fixtures created with some kind of green leaf pattern. Definitely an unexpected touch, and one that I think gives the place a bit of character. Aside from the avocado goodness, I also had the vegetarian Bún Cha Giò Chay, which consists of rice noodles, tofu, pickled carrots, daikon, mint, cucumber & bean sprouts. It's also topped with vegetarian spring rolls & crushed peanuts. Pretty simple, none of the flavors are too complex, but the red chili fish sauce on the side really makes the dish. I would probably venture out to something more complicated next time, or add grilled shrimp to the dish to make it a bit more flavorful. But overall, it was a solid and tasty meal, which actually ended up serving as my lunch and dinner. Two meals in one? I'll take it! read more

I'm going to preface my review by stating that I am Vietnamese and I tend to be skeptical of Vietnamese restaurants who get great reviews from non-Vietnamese Yelpers. So I was a little hesitant to come to Pho Saigon but the large amount of good reviews was too good for me to pass. My girlfriend and I visited Glen Allen for a conference and I was craving some Vietnamese food. The Glen Allen Yelp results were not very appealing but THANK YOU FELLOW YELPERS!! Pho Saigon is fannntastic!! We ordered and shared the Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Chien, and Goi Cuon appetizers and also an order of Bun Bo Hue. All of the items were very, very good. Very clean taste like Vietnamese food should taste like. The decor and atmosphere is great for a quiet evening with your significant other. A loud, resounding "....meh." TL;DR review: pork spring rolls were bland and the pork portioning was stingy. Pho was not the worst I've ever had, but definitely below average. I would only come here again if I had no other pho option. Now let's talk details. Pork spring rolls: the pork used was bland and dry. Also there were only like 2 very thin slices of pork in each spring roll, meaning that every bite was mostly just vermicelli noodle. I love fresh spring rolls, but I struggled to make myself finish this (and I only finished because I hate wasting food). Pho: I had the #12 pho tai chin. "Rice noodles, special beef soup with fresh eye of round & brisket". The meats were okay. The noodles were pretty good too. The broth was the problem in my opinion. Very, very oily. Could not enjoy my pho because it felt like every bite was slimy and coated in oil. Grossed me out. Really hoping that's not how the broth normally is, because I saw several people in the restaurant slurping away at their soup. I can't even. Ugh. Blergh. Too rich, and not in a good way. I wanted to try their bun bo hue (#20 on the menu, I think) but they don't serve it with pork blood! I get that that's not a required component of bun bo hue, but I've NEVER ordered it anywhere without at least the option of adding it in. Bummer. This is only the second pho place I've tried since moving to RVA. The other place is Pho So 1 at the location also on Broad. Definitely prefer that place more. Sorry Pho Saigon! :( Twas a little bit pricey, methinks. By no means outrageously so, but for the quality of what I got I feel it should be a couple bucks cheaper. Pho So 1 is slightly cheaper and also better quality in my opinion. Service at least seemed decent. I placed a take-out order, so I didn't actually experience much of the customer service, but the cashier who took my order was a nice Vietnamese woman. My order came out in like 5-10 minutes even though they seemed pretty busy with the lunch rush, speedy! Always a good thing. Ample parking as this is located in a plaza area of shops. Bottom line: wouldn't pick this place for my pho cravings. But it's also not terrible. "Meh." I would be willing to come back solely to try the pho ga. Love me some chicken pho! Short story long, I was in the area from California for business, got super hungry, wanted Vietnamese pho, yelped, and ended up here. Hands down one of the best pho I have ever eaten. In Cali I live 15 minutes south of Garden Grove which is a heavily populated Vietnamese city in Orange County and they have some of the best Vietnamese food there. To my surprise this place blows a lot of places over there out of the water. Atmosphere, food quality, service, all top notch. This restaurant made my day and made my stomach very happy. I think I have found my new favorite pho place. The broth here has such great depth of flavor! It was worth the trip on a windy, rainy Saturday. The rest of the food is average, but the pho is DELICIOUS. We also got a papaya salad to share as an appetizer. Papaya salad was not as spicy as what you would find in a Thai restaurant, but it was fresh and delicious. We had lots left over to take home with us. They also have a kid's menu, which is great. My son could never eat a huge bowl of soup, but he can make a pretty good dent in the generous kid's portion. You should definitely check this place out.
