I got lost trying to find this place; it's not directly on the Hill St. It's also located in the most unlikely place inside a ghetto fenced tiny parking lot. Correction, the ghetto location I expected (And fully anticipated a tiny shack of a place full of cardboards and unpaved surfaces run by an old lady with unkempt grey hair, sometimes great food comes form places like these). What I didn't expect, and what threw me off, what made me half stagger to the front door from the shock of it all was this nice small restaurant of a thing that could belong in an upscale mall somewhere. Heck, even the wooden patio area seems like a dead ringer for ones featured in Home and Garden magazine. What up with that? I don't know, no clue. The food? It was also unexpected. I was expecting a dirty but good bowl of soup but what landed in front of me was a clean food, good I tell myself and relax. The Pho with beef was good in one word. The soup was yellow and appears to be chicken based; it was mild and flavorful with slight milky but peasant texture, although it's not a thick broth. The flavor is really nice, made me feel calm and at peace. The super thin sliced beef was beef, average, but there were plenty of slices in the bowl. The medium thick noodles were slightly chewy but on the soft side. This was my second Pho within the last hour but I didn't tire of the taste. read more

I've experienced better but it's the only place close to work so they get a free star! (2+1=3 stars) Pho is decent, but Korean-style, clean soup. They don't give you enough soup compared to the noodles. $10 for pho is on the expensive side for what I'm used to paying. But on a rainy day, it's worth it. I wish they deliver to where I work, but I think they only deliver a very short distance. It's located under the 10 freeway at a one way street that everyone takes to get onto the fwy. Im viet and from oc so i know what real pho taste like. When im feeling homesick or just down under the weather i hit this place up. Why? Cause the portions are huge , free parking, and it actually taste like pho. Not the best since the best is in little saigon orange county but passable enough to satisfy your craving. My Story I've always wanted to go check out this hole-N-wall, but the time constraints have made it impossible and a nuisance. However, during a break from work I finally got a chance to walk down and scope it out. I can confidently say the meal was to die for. I HAD THE STEAK PHO w/Steam rice. This was a good restaurant for Vietnamese food. The restaurant is kind of hidden in a parking lot, but it was easy to find because of the big signs. I had the beef pho combo which came with a side of spring rolls and a drink. My friend also got the vegetarian stir fry which he thought was good too. The beef pho had beef broth which was delicious along with the rice noodles. The portion size was HUGE and I couldn't finish it, but I was so full after. The pho also came with a side of veggies which complemented the soup well. The spring rolls had shrimp in them and they were a great appetizer because they had a lot of vegetables in them too. The Thai tea was not to sweet so it was a good drink to have. Overall I had a great experience at this restaurant. This little place is a godsend for those lucky souls doing their civic duty at the Metropolitan Courthouse. I spent a week on jury duty here, happy with the generous lunch breaks, but disappointed with the options available within walking distance. Mickey D's and Subway was not happening, so I felt fortunate to have Yelp guide me to Pho Saigon. True, it is hard to find. Stick to the corner of 17th & Olive and you'll find it. They have plentiful seating inside and a big covered patio outside, so even if they are swamped you would still be able to find a spot to sit. The food was decent. And this may be the BLAND pho you will remember for life. Be warned!!! The mini restaurant set up is pleasant and the service is pretty OK. The menu offers mostly Vietnamese items. We had the pho, broken rice dishes and the rolls..... and they are only a so-so. Portions are rather small......and not generous with bean sprouts/ holy basil platter. Prices? Pricey and on par with the tofu establishments. Yep....everything Vietnamese definitely missing even the smell and sound!!!. And the faces. Love this pho place! I was in the area and was looking on Yelp for somewhere to grab a quick lunch. I saw great reviews and had to check this place out. It's a small spot in a shopping center that is easy to miss, however, I was surprised how popular this place was. The pho was absolutely delicious! Tender meats and with a great taste. The place is very clean and you can tell the food is made with high quality stuff. I tried the appetizer platter. It was great. You get 2 of each of the rolls. The spring rolls I loved! They had a very generous portion of shrimp in each roll. The egg rolls were also delicious and had a very nice crisp and flavor. I'm on jury duty this week at the court house at 1945 S. Hill St. The only visible places to eat are McDonalds and Burger King. Color me nauseated. A few blocks up was a mediocre Mexican place where I ate the first day. Actually mediocre is probably too complimentary; the food had no taste, but it wasn't a bad taste. I'm taking the bus, since we only have one car and my wife still needs to get to work. Normally we commute together, as we both work at UCLA. So I was looking out the window and thought I saw a glimpse of something that said Vietnamese Pho. On lunch break I sought it out and was delighted to find that despite the inauspicious surroundings, the restaurant is delightful, very clean and welcoming. I'm going back every day while I'm in jury duty. I don't get downtown very much otherwise, but if I do, certainly Pho Saigon will be my lunch choice! read more

Came here with my friend with a quick lunch before we had to head back to class. We go to school across the street. I always pass by here on the daily. Which made me always wonder why haven't I tried the food. The smell that comes out of this particular restaurant was one of the reasons why I had to try it. Plus I love pho. Well I finally ate here and mind you I did enjoy it more than I thought. I ordered the pho special with the egg rolls and drink. She ordered vermicelli the cold salad I believe number 24. She wanted chicken but they brought her beef. She did not want to say anything but she said it was delicious. I take her word for it. I on the other hand can say the pho is Devine. The broth is flavorful. The egg rolls are my favorite I can eat them non stop. From the looks of it they are filled with vermicelli and ground pork with veggies. The service was awesome. We got out food fast and they waiter was attentive. Did I mention it was a packed house. Our lunch was 30 minutes and we had enough time to eat. Came here expecting a mediocre bowl of pho.... and we didn't even get that. We ordered the seafood pho and beef ball pho. The seafood pho looked nothing like the picture and had no more than 4 or 5 pieces of seafood. With 3 of the 5 being fish cake slices. The beef balls were completely tasteless and low quality. We also ordered egg rolls. Hell even frozen egg rolls would have been a step up. I'm still trying to figure out what the filling consisted of. The one thing I will give this place 5 stars for is the marketing . The menu ,(which is in Korean; warning sign number one) has great pics and descriptions. I've been a regular here since a year ago and let me tell you, this place has been great all the time! This place is pretty small so as a result, it can get pretty crowded during lunch time. It's staffed by only the owner of the shop, an old lady while the rest are the kitchen staff. If you have the patience to wait as she makes her way through al the customers, then you'll enjoy your time here. I always get the #38 which is half of a fried chicken with fried rice. Pho Saigon is one of the best hidden Pho places in L.A., but the caveat is there is really only one good thing on the menu and that is the Beef Pho (#19). All other dishes on the menu are average, which I think a lot of the negative reviews are based on. Let me start by talking about the Beef Pho. The broth is salty, savory, meaty and rich, and there are generous portions of various types of beef. The noodles are also a great consistency but you always get way too many noodles, so I always order a "half noodle" portion which is the perfect amount. I want less noodle and more of that delicious broth. You will also get served a side of cilantro but you can get basil leaves upon request which I highly recommend. I also recommend ordering the Special Combo, which is the #19 plus a side of the most amazing deep fried egg rolls and a drink. I often daydream about these egg rolls, they are fried, piping hot juicy pieces of heaven. I think they are stuffed with ground pork and glass noodles. The Korean owner lady is a character for sure but I think she's great. She is a no-fuss kind of person that knows what a fantastic bowl of pho should be like and gets you in and out during the lunch rush quickly. read more
