This place is located in little Tokyo at the Woori market mall. The tofu soup and the side dishes are pretty decent and good. Probably not as good as the BCD but it is pretty good and this is as good as you could get in down town LA for the tofu soup. The service is quick and friendly enough too. The price is a bit less than the BCD but they don't serve the fish for the side dishes. You could park the car at the parking lot and you get the parking validation. You could go shopping at the market or DAISO store afterward and that is a big plus. read more

Definitely not a spot I would want to return to. To start off, the side dishes included fish cakes, kimchi, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. They all tasted pre-made and not fresh, especially the fish cake. The workers didn't even bother to refill them either when we finished them. Stingy. I ordered the Galbi Combo with Clam Tofu Soup mild. The galbi pieces were seasoned well, but were pretty small pieces. Compared to the ones I get at other KTown tofu houses, these were a let down. Since my boyfriend and I shared this combo, they only gave us one bowl of very soggy rice. That's totally fine! However, none of the workers were clever enough to give me an extra empty bowl/plate to eat with. Like how was I supposed to drink my soup or eat my meat without a bowl or plate?! Stingy again. I had to ask the waitress TWICE for a bowl which took so long that my food wasn't even piping hot anymore when I began eating. Also, the menu says "each soon tofu soup is served with stone pot rice" but our rice was soggy and came in a metal bowl. LIARSSSSS!!!! My sister ordered the Pork Tofu Soup mild and they gave her a non spicy beef tofu soup... A completely different protein and inaccurate spice level?! This is dangerous especially for those that cannot consume beef for personal or religious reasons. They ended up giving us chili paste and powder on the side to make her soup spicier instead of exchanging it for the correct order. It tasted below mid. Super friendly staff and delicious food! The restaurant is on the smaller side but nothing to complain about! They had a few fans going on as well so it was surprisingly not stuffy! MGD is a popular chain soon dobu place for consistency, good quality and reasonable service (service bell buttons on the tables). Good flavors, choice of reasonable spice levels and saving you the trip over to K-town since it's here in LT makes it a bargain with a nice standard tofu house selection with much easier free parking than the battles at the KT Galleria. it's a good standard place with good noodles and plentiful portions, refillable banchan and a simple fast service. read more

I recently ordered the galbi lunch combo with beef tofu soup from MG Tofu House to be picked up for delivery. I thought that the soup was great but wish it came with an egg. The galbi was good but the portion could've been better (half the box was filled with onions, even though I asked for no onions in anything). It was also nice that my meal came with rice and banchan. The cucumbers are usually my favorite, but the ones made by MG tasted way too salty for me. Overall, it is a decent place for sundubu tofu soup but I would probably try other places before coming back. read more

My wife and I came here the day after getting back from a cruise. After days of heavy, greasy food, we were craving something spicy and comforting, a spicy Korean tofu soup sounded perfect. We were in Little Tokyo and came across MG Tofu. We ordered the tofu soup, galbi, and beef short rib soup. The restaurant was quiet, with only one other table when we arrived. Another customer came in while we were eating. But to be fair, it wasn't just this restaurant, seems like the whole shopping center is getting slower and quieter lately. The server was kind and attentive. No issues with the service at all. But the food just didn't hit the mark. The tofu soup was extremely bland; basically tasted like plain tofu in hot broth. The short rib soup was slightly better, but still lacked depth. Even my wife, who usually prefers bland food, said both were under-seasoned. The galbi was okay, about what you'd expect from most tofu house BBQ combos. When the server came by to refill side dishes, I let her know very politely that the tofu soup didn't have much flavor. She noticed we barely touched it and told the owner, who also came over. They kindly insisted on bringing us a new bowl. We were almost done with our meal, so we hesitated, but appreciated the gesture and accepted. The second bowl was a little saltier, but still very bland. We barely touched it, and I had a feeling the owner might've taken it personally. When we left and I thanked her, she didn't even look up, which honestly felt disappointing. Still, I respect small businesses and want to give them the benefit of the doubt. I've seen a lot of positive reviews, so I'm hoping this was just an off day. Favorite Korean place to eat at. They have the BEST Banchan - so much variety and they offer ones I don't see anywhere else - like apple potato salad and fried okra. Great place with a clean atmosphere. It's located in the Galleria and it's a good option when you want a good Korean meal that's not a buffet. Popped in before meeting friends for karaoke. The staff lady explained the menu after noticing I was confused. I never had Soon Tofu, so I ordered a combo plate. The banchan themselves were very good and filling themselves. Think of this place as a mom-and-pop BCD or Young Dong, with the pleasant bonus of a menu that offers tiny cans of Sikhye for $2.50 a pop (not a bad price, all things considered). My experience here was positive, overall. Food and service were both satisfactory. The restaurant will validate your parking for 2 hours. "But what about the ambiance of the restaurant", you ask? Well, let's see ... in the middle of my meal, an (ostensibly residentially-challenged) gentleman (who quite frankly looked younger and more able-bodied than me) walked in and politely asked me to buy him food (better than asking for money I suppose) before the lady running the restaurant quickly ushered him out. LOVE this place! Solid, no-nonsense, super yummy + tasty food with friendly and home-feel service, at reasonable prices is making MG Tofu House one of my favorite in Japan Town!! We opted for their Galbi (beef spare ribs) + seafood tofu soup special and their Oyster Pancake -- everything was just absolutely delicious! Their galbi was nicely marinated, not too salty, and cooked / charred perfectly. Their tofu soup is also seasoned perfectly with silky smooth tofu. We also really liked their oyster pancake - very flavorful. Their banchan here is also very solid... with one item that stood out from the crowd - their chrysanthemum leaves banchan... oh it is sooo soooo good! We kept getting refills and their waitress was not stingy about it. :) The restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of the mall and very easy to find. We went on a Friday afternoon and this place is by far the worst. We ordered the galbi combo and korean seafood pancake (haemulpajun). First the soup, it had a foul smell from old seafood. We asked them to change it for us and the owner was very rude. She used rhe same bowl with the foul smell. 2nd the galbi portion was so small, BCD HAS 2X the portion of this place. Now the seafood pancake, I know for sure this was made says before and all they did was microwaved it and just fried it on the hot skillet. All the banchan the side dishes had no flavor. All the banchan was just sweet. The only cool part was our waitress. She was very understanding about the situation. Never ever going back to this place again. I am a huge fan of soon du bu. And I had the seafood tofu here which was a 7/10 for me which means pretty good option for DTLA. I did however try something new the second visit: BLACK GOAT CASSEROLE (feeds 2). THIS WAS INSANELY GOOD. This is the same as the black goat stew (for 1). The goat wasn't gamey for me. It was tender and the skin and cartilage pieces were the most heavenly. Per the nice Korean lady, black goat is great for the females who have any type is physical issues (which is found amusing). My gf and I are very open minded when it comes to trying new foods and this was the best discovery in a while. It comes with a hot pot style heating platform so every bite is always nice and piping hot. 10/10. The banchan is average but does focus more on veggies ones which is a plus. Went here for the first time yesterday and had a great experience! Soondubu is one of my favorite Korean foods to eat! I have always loved BCD, but the closest BCD in KTown is quite crowded these days and not an ideal place to bring my 9 month old. This place only had 1 other party eating when I entered. I ordered soondubu for myself and asked if I could have a side of plain tofu to feed my baby. To my surprise, the waitress brought a kids plate of baby friendly banchan and even made him his own soondubu with small thin pieces of beef, soft tofu, and a plain soup. At the end, she even said it was just SERVICE and didn't charge me for it! I was so touched...It can be quite challenging eating out with a little one. I really appreciated her kindness and thoughtfulness to accommodate us! I ended up ordering more food to take home for my husband and tipping well. I will definitely be back because of the yummy food and EXCELLENT SERVICE. Since I do like shopping at the grocery store downstairs, I am super happy that I tried this place. read more

I will keep my review as simple as possible, so that I can get my message across effectively. A few of my main issues with this establishment are: I was given a bowl of white rice with, two uncooked beans on top of it. Food sent out that I didn't ask for, that were not taken back & still charged for regardless. Given a Can of soda that looked like it was rubbed in dirt. I couldn't help but immediately perceive this action as being an implication of a racist slur. I am very much a proud Mexican-American & I am no stranger to this type of treatment, but it sincerely took me by surprise. I regret not taking photos of it & of the dirty can of soda the lady attending gave me. I didn't because I was having a hard time processing how to passively address this horrible service & racist action. I went with another person who didn't recieve this treatment, so the contrast was jarring. She definitely made me feel unwanted in their establishment. read more

I was in search for my favorite Udon spot (located by the elevator on the 3rd floor) but they sadly closed ); I was just hungry at this point and wanted anything convenient and quick and So I came into this spot. I loved the authentic service and kindness of the staff immediately. I got the Kimchee Pancake and Seafood Soon Tofu with no shrimp. Checking in was also nice because they offered you a complimentary soda at the time I was there. I'll def be back to this spot! I really am impressed with the spice level - a lot of tofu spots lack any real spice (for those of us who profusely sweat because we like it SPICY - this place is good). I used to visit this place more often before moving further away, but every time I make my way to Little Tokyo, it's a must-stop. My partner and I absolutely enjoy visiting Little Tokyo to shop around and eat. I was heavily craving Korean food because I was feeling deprived of it after a busy work schedule. On this particular weekend, I was in need of some good, hot tofu soup. While we were venturing out to Little Tokyo, we decided to stop by MG Tofu for lunch. Usually, people go to Koreatown in LA for Korean food, but we did not want to drive back and forth and deal with the horrendous traffic. There are a handful of decent Korean restaurants in Little Tokyo if you just look carefully. The restaurant is located at the very top of a shopping mall at the edge of Little Tokyo. For better context, there is a Daiso inside that shopping mall, so all you have to do is take the escalators up towards the restaurant. There weren't many customers inside when we arrived, and we were seated right away. I ordered their kimchi tofu soup with beef, and my partner ordered their hot stone bibimbap. Food (5/5): You can see some korean grandmas and grandpas rolling up here to indulge -- a great indicator of its authentic taste. While I am not Korean, I went to a predominantly Korean high school and church (lol) where I was introduced to Korean food outside of a KBBQ. I've only been here once, and I'm already anticipating making myself a MG Tofu House regular. I haven't tried the tofu soup so I'm unsure how it would fair against BCD Tofu House, but I did try their sliced rice cake and dumpling soup. Lord have mercy, the depth of flavor, the chewiness of the rice cake, the well-seasoned and well-put-together dumplings in this soup rivals the popular MDK Noodles in Ktown. The soup came out piping hot and I was so surprised the dumpling never fell apart. The banchans (side dishes) that complimented were so perfect- fish cakes, sweet potato, kimchi, and more. What got me the most was not the PORTIONS. They are so humungous that even my big bag stomach couldn't finish. Service (5/5): Even when not too busy, you see our ajummas bustling. Ambiance (5/5): I've never been to South Korea, but I imagine this is how it would look. It's such a cute and cozy spot. Let's start with the Food, which is why we are all here in the first place on this journey called life. I have lived in Asia for 6 years and never has Korean food this good before. I have never lived in Korea but I would imagine this is that home cooked Korean food mom made growing up that you miss when your older. Everything had the perfect amount of taste to it even the small dishes served at the beginning. I don't have a specific recommendation as it was all good expect for the free initial Tofu.. it is sooo delicious! I guess that's why they call it Tofu House. Now the service was amazing as well. The ladies that attended us were so so nice as if they were your mom! I heard regulars waking but talking to them about how they haven't seen each other in a long time and how are they doing. They came to check on us with a polite smile and soft words every time. There was no pressure to buy or order anything right away, just great help and service. The ambiance here is definitely an Asian feel. The lighting is interesting and gives it a warm feel which is very welcoming, again going back to how homie this place feels like. Great food with quick service. We came at night on a weekend and there was no wait. The waitress took our order promptly and gave recommendations on spice as not everyone in the group was good with spice. I ordered the medium spice tripe soondubu and my friends ordered mild and plain. The medium spice was perfect for me and the soup was really flavorful. Think hot Cheeto spicy. All the meats in the combo are big, thick cuts and perfectly marinated. The soon dubu is packed with fresh tofu. All the banchan is served in nice big portions. They honor their Yelp check in deals with nary a hassle. The rice comes cooked in hot stone pots. The service is great, as long as you understand it's ok to wave down the server (actually, it's just the one, friendly lady) if you need something. I got the Galbi and seafood soon tofu combo. The meat was really, really good. Soft in just the right way and that marinade was perfect-o. I was impressed at there being plenty of tofu in the combo meal. We were properly served hot stone pot rice, too. So many places are skimping out on properly done rice, out of sheer laziness. The food was so good that my wife and I actually didn't realize until halfway through that they mixed up our tofu orders. They gave me her clam soon tofu, although it was spicy and she ordered it mild. She got an assorted tofu served mild, even though I technically ordered seafood, medium spicy. So it's a Tuesday night, I'm hangry and it's time to order takeout. I found this Korean spot on ubereats. I ordered japchae and a galbi combo. When it arrived, I was HIGHLY disappointed. I mean how is it that the galbi combo is around $32 and the japchae is $13 and it came in boxes the size of an iPhone pro max.... Lol like are you serious? Japchae is just glass noodles and veggies. For $13, I just feel so ripped off at this point. The galbi was mediocre but there was only 6 small pieces so idk. The soon tofu I selected was mild but barely had spice which also came in the smallest takeout thing I've ever seen for soup. I'd choose BCD over this place any day. read more
