I have not been here to the actual location yet I have ordered a few time for delivery through door dash and man it is NOT DISAPPOINTING. I LOVE this place. Since I moved to Indy I have been dying for an authentic Vietnamese spot to grab grub. Delivery is always fast and the food is always hot. The first time I ordered pho I set it down for a half hour and still managed to burn my mouth after. The meat is quality and the broth itself is delicious it does not taste like water... Delicious Pho!! Note - they do not take Amex. Anyhoo, this is a traditional looking Vietnamese restaurant with an extensive menu! They have Thai dishes, any noodle dish you could ever imagine and photos of dishes in the menu if you're having a hard time deciding. And it's not expensive. We had Pho & it was served piping hot and delicious! I asked for Shrimp Pho, which wasn't on the menu, however they made it with no problems. It hit the spot. Yummy! Everything is fresh. Wonderfully grilled pork, shrimp. If you get a BUN, pour the Saigon sauce over the entire bowl, then chow down. The rice platters are fun and tasty, think Asian fajita. The "meatloaf" is amazing, it's really not meatloaf in the American sense; it much lighter and more flavorful. Bubble Teas are good but be careful not get a brain freeze! Saigon was a lovely lunchtime trip, less than 10 min from downtown. Located on the westside, Saigon is great for a quick bite. For appetizer, I tried the crab & avocado soup, followed by crispy egg roll. Main dish was beef thai curry (mildly spicy) and steamed white rice. The soup was amazing and I'd like to try more dishes. My husband and his work colleague often go here for lunch (often enough that the employees greet him by name, which is charming), and they have been raving about it, so I had to try it myself. Apparently, the restaurant gets fresh bread for bahn mi every Tuesday, so we went on a Tuesday. My husband and I shared a papaya salad, pork bahn mi, beef Pho, and I got a taro bubble tea. Everything was great. Everything was cheap. Now I'm obsessed with Saigon Restaurant. Note: When we were there, the building was in the process of being painted. I only get Pho here (and appetizers). I'm not sure why you would get anything else, because that is their specialty. For your staple food of Vietnamese cuisine, I am a fan of this place. It's been a while since I've came back but I do love their menu with the huge array of Vietnamese food. They have anything from Pho to Banh Cuon (Vietnames steamed Crepe). The service is always great and consistent. I am pretty sure a family runs this place because I see the same people working when I come. It's great for large group and they do cater for parties. I am vietnamese. This is my least favorite of all the vietnamese restaurants in the indy area. There have always been rumors of behind the scenes msg use, dirty kitchen, people getting sick after eating there etc. Too many rumors for me to get excited about going. I've had the pho there in the past and it never tastes quite right. The same family owns the grocery next door which is why I try to avoid that parking lot altogether but I'll spare details for the grocery's seperate review. Price is okay and alot of people gather here and because of it's name I notice a lot of american people come here to try out vietnamese cuisine for the first time. Most of the other Vietnamese restaurants are country-neutral as they also serve Chinese food there so you wouldn't be able to tell that they specialize in Vietnamese cuisine. Saigon was the Capitol of Vietnam until Communist took it over and renamed it. The southerns still call it Saigon. For some viet people they come for the convenience of lunch and groceries next door. My tip is to have lunch elsewhere and get your groceries at one of the other 6 international/asian grocery stores on the same road. I give it 2 stars because if I was craving viet food and this was the last place still open i'd probably still try and go. Well lucky for me there are at least 5 other restaurants within driving distance that I would choose. read more

With this new ownership, the pad thai does not taste like pad thai. The different of this new ownership and the previous one was like night and day. The previous owner was very friendly and their pad thai was among the best here in Indy. I have been coming to this place for at least 5 years now. Finally went back after a three year hiatus. I know that certain Dishes here aren't good so I avoid getting the pho or the rare Vietnamese dishes that nobody really orders. Their best dishes are grilled or sautéed. My favorite is the grilled pork with rice. No other Vietnamese restaurant grills their pork so at Saigon you get this unique smoky flavor that you can't get anywhere else. It is marinated with a unique Vietnamese seasoning and served with eggs, pork meat loaf, and pickled vegetables. It is a little pricy so my favorite here is the lunch special for $7 which gives you a dry dish along with a soup and a Vietnamese spring roll. My favorite is Pad Thai! read more

I've never had Pho anywhere else. Honestly, I don't know if I ever would. I'm not sure how others compare, but this is absolutely perfect in terms of flavor, texture, and everything else that goes along with food. The noodles are perfect for slurping, they don't stick together in the slightest. The sprouts are perfectly crunchy and fresh, supplying a much regarded texture. The beef is succulent and tinder and sliced thin enough to almost see through. The basil is the most aromatic I've ever experienced, but subtle enough in taste to not overpower. The broth brings it all together. Hell, one time I even got tripe by accident and it was equally as delicious. My biggest regret of moving to Broad Ripple from the west side is now I have to drive 30 minutes to get my to go order. read more

But I will mention that if you've been a long time patron they have downsized the menu considerably. I would say they have about 20 to 30% of what they used to have on their menu. I feel like this place is having an identity crisis: the outside reminds me of a saloon, the area right when you walk in looks like a diner, and then the seating area is attempting to be more Asian. There are bars on either side of the front counter with hangers on them. I didn't see anyone use the hangers so I don't know if they're actually for customer use. Before I talk about the food, let me just mention that this was my very first meal in Indianapolis. Pho was also my very last official meal before I left California (Bay Area). I have no idea why I thought it was a good idea to have pho since there was only a small chance that it would be able to compare. The noodles were normal but it's kind of hard to mess up something that comes in a package. I got the beef and flank pho. I guess you could consider the broth flavorful since it did have flavor. However, it did not taste like beef broth at all. It tasted more like chicken broth and then at the end, maybe a tiny hint of beef from the beef slices that I still had in my bowl. The flank was chewier than what I like but it was still edible. I'm also pretty sure I received a bonus piece of brisket. The price is pretty average for what I'm used to but since I've only been in Indianapolis for a few days, I can't really compare it to the other places here. One of the previous reviewers mentioned how big the regular bowl was but I thought it was literally 'regular' sized. It left me satisfied and I definitely don't consider myself a big eater. The service wasn't as attentive as it could be but I never had to wait too long if I needed anything. Overall, it's not bad. This past Friday night was my first trip to Saigon as well as my only experience with Vietnamese food. I wanted to try it the previous weekend, but they were closed for several days, presumably on a family vacation. This former Bob Evans isn't much to look at on the outside, but I am so glad I tried it. The inside is decorated well and seemed to be very clean and mostly updated. This honestly turned out to be one of the best meals I have ever had, no kidding! I began this feast by giving the Tsingtao beer a whirl. It was refreshing and crisp, reminding me a bit of a Grolsch with a hint of Heineken. It was actually a very good lager and far exceeded my expectations of what a Chinese beer would be like. I had ordered the vegetable spring rolls as an appetizer. They are cold, with sauteed tofu, rice and basil leaves wrapped in a rice paper. I haven't cared much for peanut sauce in the past, but the one that came with these rolls was delicious! I also enjoyed the mismatched vintage Corelle plates that came out with them. For my entree, I went with the basil tofu. It was absolutely divine! A very generous amount of perfectly cooked tofu strips along with broccoli florets, snow peas, onions, bean sprouts, thin carrots in a lovely flower shape, cooked wedges of tomato, and of course, basil leaves, topped with a nectarous brown sauce on a beautiful white, square plate and a heaping little bowl of steamed white rice on the side. I kept eating even though I was full because it tasted so, so good. Even though I had to have eaten half to three quarters of my meal, I still had a hefty amount of this treasure left over to take home for later. The flavor of the sauce was amazing, spicy without feeling like a fire-breathing dragon. I could seriously eat spoon fulls of the sauce alone, but everything combined, especially with the basil, was such a fresh, tasty symphony for the senses. The only thing that could POSSIBLY make this dish any better would be some mushrooms, but it was definitely excellent as is. I got to brush up a bit on my chopstick skills, but was also given a fork and spoon which came in handy. My dining companion, who was so thoughtful to bring me here, ordered a "clay pot" of beef that also came with rice. It did seem to be very good, as there was none left, and did appear to be pleasing to my eye as well, but I didn't comprehend it to be as much of a life-changing experience as my meal was. Saigon had an extensive menu with plenty of things for everyone, including many choices suitable for you fellow vegans. I will have lots of variety from which to choose on subsequent visits, though I will positively be wanting that basil tofu again. Among the things I saw on the menu that looked interesting were the bubble teas and an avocado shake. I would absolutely like to try pho also since I hear such good things about it and its addictive properties. I might add, the restaurant had a pretty good radio station playing that also made for nice ambiance. The tables were shiny and of high quality. The dining room was very colorful and sparkling. It was surprisingly not crowded at all, but I think the stormy weather had affected the crowds this night at many establishments. The children that sat us were a delight and so adorable. Our server, who I am guessing was the owner, wasn't over-the-top friendly, but was very prompt with food, drinks/refills and fulfilled my request for a to-go box with a hospitable smile. The restroom was probably the original from when this building was first erected, but it was clean and stocked, The only thing I would like to see is a working website so customers could peruse the menu online, but it is not a necessity. Overall, a wonderful experience ESPECIALLY due to the incredible food. How on EARTH had I not tried Vietnamese until now?!? I do reckon I have found myself a new favorite cuisine! Do not be put off by its location or exterior appearance. This place really delivers some of the best pho. We moved here from DC and I was sad to leave my old pho stop. I came her on the chance that the exterior would not compare to the pho. WOW. I LOVE the chicken pho. It never fails to be excellent. Every time I get it I am happy. The broth stays piping hot until I get home. The food is excellent. Obviously the ambience is not why you go here - it looks like it was a Bob Evans or something similar. In my quest to have Pho in all of the 50 US states, I arrived here in Indianapolis, IN after a nice drive from Cincinnati, OH on a recent trip. It was cool to scratch off Indiana the list. I met up with friends at the Saigon restaurant in Indianapolis on a nice Friday evening, after a long day of travel. This place was recommended to me from one of my friends, who feel that this place is as authentic as you can get when it comes to Vietnamese cuisine. I arrived here with friends and it was nice. The restaurant reminded me of a restaurant and a diner at the same time. It was an interesting combination at the same time. A group of my friend's friends arrived first, while we arrived about 15 minutes later. It was about 7:15pm when we strolled in and it was pretty nice to be joining that group for dinner. The ambiance was cordial and quiet, and we had a nice time here, filled with conversation, good food, and good company. Saigon restaurant is located on W 38th Street in Lafayette Square in Indianapolis. While they do take reservations, the traffic at this place was rather light when we were there, although a few tables were already occupied. There was private parking here, although they share it with other businesses in a community strip mall. Plenty of parking though in front of the restaurant itself. With that said, Saigon restaurant accepts credit cards, so that was great. A few of us, myself included, ordered various variations of Pho, whereas a couple of us ordered rice plates. For me, I ordered the Combination Pho, in the Super Bowl, which was $12. On top of that, I had some soft spring rolls too for $5.25, which was surprisingly good. It wasn't frozen at all, although it looked different than what I am used to. Oh wait, I'm in the Midwest. Gotcha. :) The Pho itself came out in a wide, large bowl. They were generous with the basil and the bean sprouts, but as it turns out, my new friends did not touch them, so there was much more for me. I went to town on that and it was great. The beef was perfectly sliced and the broth was decently good. There was some hint of deep flavors in the broth, so I knew it was good, however, not great. The rice noodles were excellent, so I should have asked for extra noodles. Maybe next time when my travels tumbles through Indianapolis, but for now, Saigon restaurant has a good place for Pho and best believe, you should check it out for yourself! I think that the prices were okay for the experience and the occasion. While not too expensive, the Super Bowl Pho hit the spot and definitely recommend this place to get your pho on! This review pertains only to Saigon market, I will save the Restaurant for another review. This is probably my least favorite Asian Market in town and probably Asian for that matter. But they have two benefits that earn a visit from me every now and then. Even though they have a very limited fresh meat selection but it is definitely the best out of all the Asian market. You won't find rib eyes or filet mignon here, but more rustic cut such as pork belly, pork shoulder, beef shank, beef loin, and innards. The second benefit is the one male worker, i think he's the butcher, stocking boy, and cleaner. He's pretty fast when it comes to helping you with the meat. If i needed him to cut the meat and bones a certain way, he'll be on it. His English isn't very good but I think he can make out keyword and can help you find what you are looking for. Their vegetable selection is limited and caters to Asian cooking. Out of all the Asian market on Lafayette Road, Saigon has the worst vegetables! They always look like they are dead or near dead. The herbs in the refrigerated section is not too bad though and usually pretty fresh. If you are wanting to buy vegetables though, I say skip Saigon and go to Saraga or Oriental market. Saigon has a similar selection of dried goods and frozen items like Van's Fish Market. Check expiration dates especially on canned goods and I would be careful of frozen items as well. I always make sure I do a thorough examination. Saigon also sells freshly made bake goods and exotic fruits, and you can find them scatter up by the register. The owner usually stands behind the register, she usually doesn't say anything to any of the shopper unless she knows them. I wish she would be more cheery because it kinda ruins my shopping mood because I enjoy grocery shopping. Overall, Saigon would be a MEH experience but the fresh meat selection earns this place another star. read more

One of my favorite meals in the city is the Siam Ginger with Tofu at Siam Square. (I know, this is a review for Saigon...but stay with me, here.) It's pretty pricy for what you get: $14, and there's no meat in it! So when I tried the ginger tofu lunch special at Saigon, I was hoping it could come remotely close to my beloved. At $5.99, what could I expect, right? Well, it was BETTER than Siam Square! More tofu. Bigger chunks of ginger. And I get soup and a spring roll! For less than half the price. Is it fancy? No. Is it in a cool artsy district? Nope. But if you're looking for good food and can skimp on ambiance, then get thee to Saigon. read more

My brother, who has only been back in Indy for 2 years after living away for about 15 years, even tried it before me. (that rat bastard) So he treated me and his family to apps & pho last weekend. (that sweet prince) The regular size bowl of pho is huge!! I can't imagine what the large looks like. Do they just bring it out in a Dutch oven? I'd like to think so. I got the beef noodle pho, though I was willing to be a little more adventurous and go with the soup that has more of the guttyworks in it like tripe and whatnot. Maybe next time. The soup is sooooo soothing and good, and I can't wait to go eat it on a freezing winter day with some hot spring rolls and maybe some tea. I didn't know what to expect on the flavor, and I'm still not sure what complexities I was tasting, but it was salty but with a hint of some sweet spice like cinnamon or nutmeg. I used to go here when I lived close to 38th street a couple years ago and then I moved away. Once I came back I found that they'd moved to a new location in what seems to be an old Bob Evans. Thankfully, the food seems to have survived the move without incident. The Banh Mi sandwiches are still great according to my wife who can never seem to resist ordering one if it is on the menu. I like the Pho with meatballs, but my true love here is the Bun Bo Hue. They have my favourite that I've found in the city thus far. Fantastic spicy rich broth, chewy chunks of fat and what I believe to be tendon. Rich tasty beef. I love it all. The cha gio here are delicious, enough so that I usually order two orders. I'll admit, it has probably been a long while since I've had pho. I was on a pho kick, where I'd go once a week to the same place while working at my old job. It got to the point where I had it so much, I couldn't stomach eating any kind of pho. So it's a cold day and I'm looking for something warm. What better warm-me-up treat than pho. I was ready to dive back in, pho real (I had to!). I ordered the seafood pho, which is almost always a "surprise" seafood selection. Especially when the menu literally just says "seafood pho." I found all the usual suspects. Shrimp (fresh, yay!), crab and calamari. What I did not expect, nor could I identify, was this squiggly seafood item that almost looked like a rotini noodle and had the consistency of calamari. I have no clue what it was... but whatever, I ate it. Obviously I'm not too concerned. I really liked the broth. I think you've gotta have your broth down if you wanna have a kickin' pho joint. Thankfully, they do. It was flavorful and almost, just almost, made me not want to put sriracha on it. I did, but that's beside the point. The broth was good! They also bring out a big bowl of sprouts, limes and basil, which I appreciate. I almost thought we might have to order more sprouts, since I like to hog them all, but it ended up being plenty.
