Food was okay, service was horrible Arrived and didn't get water till 15 minutes after Then I proceeded to order Pho Dacbiet extra large (pho) Bun thit nhuong cha gio (vermicelli, grill pork, egg roll) + Nem (pink pork) Cha gio (egg roll) Banh mi thit nhuong (grilled pork sandwich) Vietnamese coffee I asked him can I add Nem to my vermicelli bowl? He responded "I'll try, I don't know if the cook will cook it?" I responded but you have bun Nem nhuong so you have Nem, wouldn't it just be extra if I asked for more meat? He said yea I can charge you for extra meat. - food came out and no Nem. He said yea the cook didn't make it so I didn't charge you. I asked but you have Nem right? Cause there is a meal with it and he said yea but we don't have it Okay? Next time just say you're out, but I think this was a lie Then he brings out our pho bowl but it was regular size. I informed him I ordered an extra large He responded "oh I forgot to put that in..." and stared at me.. I said well I ordered an extra large so my boyfriend and I could share.. he was like oh... okay and throws the whole bowl of pho away - now we have to wait for a whole new bowl Sandwich came out fine Egg rolls which is an appetizer came out last after we almost finished our food Went up to pay, he told me the amount and I asked can I see the receipt then he told me the amount again, I had to ask again can I see the receipt to check if he charged me for extra meat I didn't get He prints it out but he wouldn't give it to me till I handed my card.... This week I attended one of the Indy's International Marketplace lunch tours at Saigon. There was about 10 of us there and we spread out over three different tables for social distancing. They have a great lunch menu where you can pick an entree and it comes with white rice plus you choose a soup and egg roll or spring roll for $8. I choose the beef and broccoli with mushroom soup and an egg roll. Everything was very good. I could have had a little more sauce on my entree. My table mates both had the crap asparagus soup and they said it was amazing and that I was missing out! The restaurant seemed to be very clean and the staff was friendly. This is our usual go to for a weekday lunch. The menu has a lot of variety. Every dish I have ever had has been delicious. It can get crowded, but service is still fast and friendly. The restaurant was recently closed for a month, and we were counting down the days until they returned and reopened! Thank goodness they did. The storefront is deceptively small, once you are inside there is quite a bit of space and an upstairs. If you are in town for a medical appointment, do yourself a favor and stop by for lunch. read more

Saigon is now under new management since the retirement of the original owners. Other than a new outdoor sign you won't notice many changes. Instead of doing carryout as usual we decided to dine in to check out the changes. The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived but several people trickled in while we were there. It never became busy with just 4 tables of guests but carryout was steady. We were told to grab a table in the corner and he'd be right back. Our server returned promptly but several complete categories were marked out on the original menus. It wasn't consistent on our menus so we had to confirm with our server. Several categories are no longer available. We ordered Egg Rolls as an appetizer but unfortunately, they arrived after our dinners arrived but only after I reminded him of the order. My husband ordered Vermicelli Noodles with Pork. It was lukewarm when it arrived so he was very disappointed but the flavor was good. I ordered the Chicken Pho with extra noodles ($2 upcharge) and it arrived hot and loaded with shredded chicken. It was perfect on a cold winter night. After our dinner arrived our server seemed to forget we were still there. We had trouble getting drink refills, to-go containers, and especially the check. We finally walked up to the carry-out counter to pay our bill. We're still not sure if we pay at the counter or the table as we use to. As we were paying I realized the woman behind the counter was someone I've known for close to thirty years. It was hard to recognize her with the mask. It was nice seeing her again plus I had no idea her family was associated with Saigon. They still have several issues to work out as mentioned above. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved quickly to continue bringing new patrons and old, loyal customers back. We will, of course, continue to support Pho Saigon and hope it returns to a smoothly run restaurant as it was before. read more

Disappointed with our meal here. Broth in the pho lacked any taste. Supposed to be bone broth but tasted like veg broth. Overall the pho tasted very poor. Vermicelli noodle dish- don't come with fish sauce that usually brings the dish together. Had to flag servers attention to get it. Service was lack luster. Never came by to check in on us and we had to flag her down a couple of times to ask questions/fish sauce. Only redeeming item was the grilled pork in the vermicelli noodle dish. I had no idea where I was going when my friend decided we were eating here. She was in the mood for Pho and this was listed as open and good. So she drives us and imagine my surprise when we pull up to the old Bob Evans near where my childhood home was. It's not a Bob Evans anymore! The food at Saigon was great. I ordered Pad Thai and she got her Pho. Both were well prepared and the ingredients were flavorful and filling. The decor is a little odd as it's fairly obvious inside that you're in the remnants of an old American eatery. Maybe a Big Boys or IHOP, but something along those lines. My girlfriend's favorite food is Pho, so when she woke up craving some we immediately began looking for restaurants in the Indy area. This restaurant had good reviews and was about 10 minutes from my place so we decided to give it a try. Glad we did because it was pho-nomenal! It is located off of 38th and Georgetown road in an almost obnoxiously large red and white stand alone building. There are plenty of parking spots around the restaurant. We walked in and noticed it was very big on the inside, with a mix of tables and booths on both sides. They also have a few bar tops, if someone wanted to come solo and eat quickly. The menu is huge with over 140+ options, ranging from traditional Vietnamese sandwiches to pho to other various fish entrees and more. Does anyone else wonder how restaurants like this can make over 100 different things?? Okay, I digress. But anyway, my girlfriend ordered the pho chicken, which came with shredded chicken in beef broth (kind of interesting as she was expecting chicken broth). I am not as adventurous as her (yet!) so I ordered the chicken pad thai without sprouts. After seeing some of the pictures of it on Yelp, I also asked for it to come with a light amount of peanuts. About 10 minutes after we ordered, the food came out piping hot. My pad thai was absolutely amazing -- the best one I've had so far in Indy. It was so good that I forced myself not to finish the whole thing so I could take some home for later. My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken pho, and we decided this will now be our go-to pho restaurant. As I write this review, I actually just ate the rest of my pad thai and now I am sad that I have no more. Kudos to you, Saigon! I have been here a handful of times now and every time, it doesn't disappoint. I am from CA where good quality Vietnamese food is available at every corner and this restaurant is as close as it gets! I love it that they offer such an all encompassing big menu, but still do not lose the authenticity and flavor of their dishes. Here are my favorite Vietnamese dishes that I love to order here! 1. Soft Spring Rolls- they bring you a spring roll kit with rice paper, water for soaking, vegetables and meat so you can assemble it on your own! Very hands on cool experience! 2. Vietnamese Pancake (Crepe)- I'm not always a big fan of omelettes, but when it comes to this Vietnamese egg dish, I certainly am! The pancake is a bit of a crunchy texture and goes great with shrimp! 3. Congee with Pork- I would love to eat this congee for breakfast every week if I could! This is the only place that I know of that serves the best congee. 4. Wonton Noodle Soup (Hu Tieu Wonton)- I think this tastes better with egg noodles as a substitute. 5. Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio- Vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and egg rolls. My absolute favorite thing about Vietnamese cuisine is that they know how to cook grilled pork and make it actually taste good! I also think that they have the freshest vegetables available and it's great that they have a side of fresh basil and bean sprouts with a lot of dishes. I've had plenty of pho in Indy and Saigon is on par with all of them. But what makes Saigon pho stand out is the $10 per bowl of pho price tag, making it the most bang for buck pho place in Indy that i know of. Make sure you especially request their chili oil, flavorful and pacts a punch. Aside of being affordable, they have a huge menu of options. My personal favorite is the steamed rice rolls with minced pork, it reminds me of Chinese cheungfun with a much welcomed vietnamese touch. Expect to spend about $15- $20 per person! My husband and I stopped in now that the new owners have taken over to see what changes they had made. They had big shoes to fill from the last owners. It looks almost exactly the same inside and about half of the items on the menu are the same but they have different recipes for their food. We were seated quickly and ordered waters. Our go-to was Pad Thai here previously so we gave it a try again. Not AS good but definitely pretty solid! It was a bit slow getting our food out to us but I'm guessing they're just getting the hang of things. We weren't in a rush so it didn't bother us. Our waitress was very nice and communicated with us while we waited. We will be back to see what other good stuff they have on the menu! read more

Came here with my group of colleagues and had a lovely, lively meal full of delicious apps and a little less solid entrees but still excellent all around. First off, high fives to the staff for handling our large group without breaking a sweat. We had about 10 folks and they didn't bat an eye. The apps we had, including make your own spring rolls, egg rolls, grilled beef lemongrass, crab rangoon, etc were all fantastic. In fact, I could have done just the apps for a full meal, I liked them so much! For an entree I went with the #99, a noodle bowl with grilled beef and an egg roll. For this one, it was good, and they were generous with the protein and toppings, I just wish I had had a little more sauce as parts of it felt a bit dry. If you like your sauces a little more heavy handed, like me, you may want to ask for a little more on the side. Saigon is in an unassuming spot in a strip mall but don't sleep on it. I'm always happy to get down on some delicious Vietnamese food so when friends suggested Saigon Restaurant for dinner, I jumped on board. The restaurant itself is located in the center of a cultural food mecca and I was pleasantly surprised to find this in the middle of Indy. We had a group of about twelve people, so we made reservations ahead of time. When we arrived they had two big, round tables pushed together for us right in the middle of the dining room. It was nice that we could be seated right away. The interior of the restaurant is a little dated, but it was cozy and our group easily got lost in conversation while eagerly looking over the menu. We started with drinks and I went with jasmine tea. It was a cold evening and this definitely warmed me up. We all started with the appetizer samplers and spring rolls, which we were invited to build ourselves. I've never made my own spring roll before and it was really fun. I love fresh herbs and tofu and these hit the spot. I also enjoyed the crab Rangoon and rocket shrimp. Next up was number 94, aka bun tom. Grilled shrimp vermicelli noodles, sean sprouts, cucumber, basil, crushed peanuts, and sauce. It wasn't my favorite, but it filled me up. I enjoyed the mixture of texture but needed more flavor overall. The staff was super friendly and came by regularly to fill our drinks and clear plates out of the way. All in all, we had a good time. I'm not sure I would jump to coming back without exploring the neighborhood, but I'm happy it's an option. I really wish they had vegetarian broth for their pho. I absolutely love this place and have introduced many people to it! The first person you're going to see when you walk in is Peter. He's going to greet you, seat you, and take your order. The atmosphere is not what you'd think. It's bright, there's a TV playing sports, and contemporary music playingbin the background. I use to work in a Vietnamese restaurant and everything hear was authentic as it was where I use to work. The food comes out fast and hot. I can't say enough good things about this place. The avocado smoothie is made with fresh avocado, and you can taste it! I got the Banh Coun with thit noung which is essentially rolled rice crepes with grilled meat inside. They also have the more traditional serving with the pork roll. I think I prefer the traditional, but I'm glad to have tried it! Saigon is known as the best Vietnamese restaurant in Indy, and I agree that it is very good. I've been twice for a weekday lunch, and I'm always pleased. Recently I got the lemongrass chicken, with a soup and spring roll. So good! The soup was definitely extraordinary. The entree did come with a LOT of onions that I picked out, so be warned if you hate onions the way I do (add flavor, good, but texture to eat it is awful).
