It's been several years since our last visit. The food was always meh..at best. Well, I was so surprised by how much better this joint has gotten. Super good FRESH food. I loved that we walked in and most of the patrons were Asian, translation - yep, food good! Started with the Spring rolls, which were, as expected, nothing to blow your taste buds away, decent. We also tried some Pepper Squid, which was ok. I think more pepper would have been better, as it lacked any discernible pepper seasoning. Onward to the Sweet and Sour Shrimp and Vegetables. Wow...well balanced, a terrific freshness, and the broth was spot on. We then tried the grilled pork, which was good. The server did not speak English well, so it's best to point to the menu item you want, as if you leave it to the server, you may not get what you expected. Yes, I will visit much more often. We had to multiple times to wave down a server just to get some water and there were only three tables seated at the time. The checkout is up front which is ok. The attitude of the workers are NOT ok. No receipt no itemized bill. They literally just spit a number at you. And when you ask about it they give you an attitude. The food 2/5. Summer roll: 3/5 it was ok. It's a summer roll so it's hard to really mess up. So it was solid but their dipping sauce was lackluster. Flavors were on the blander side. Pho: 2/5 For the price and taste it is definitely not worth it. Nothing special about the pho. Flavors are not complex and screams of overuse of msg to add umami. Each individual ingredient was not of a great quality. There a places with amazing pho, average pho, and then just terrible. This is terrible but I also wouldn't consider it average. For the price compare to taste and quality of ingredients, it's definitely too expensive for a below average pho. Overall: there are better places to go. Came in for a solo lunch on a weekday, and no one else was dining. I ordered my standard lemongrass chicken, which has a few sauteed onions mixed in with the chicken. I usually find more pieces of lemongrass in the traditional preparation to which I am accustomed, so this dish seems a bit bland with no red pepper flakes either, just a sprinkling of fried onion. The dish was piled on top of the rice, instead of the rice being separate in a bowl shaped pile. Every chef prepares thing a little differently, so I tried to go with the flow. A little cucumber and pickled carrots and daikon were on the side, no lettuce or tomato here. It was fine, I ate it all, but it wasn't memorable. We came with our friends who are Vietnamese, and they speak very highly of this place. Service: Service wasn't great. Staff were not friendly or too welcoming and don't come to check on you throughout the meal. It was a bit chaotic when they were serving the food. The staff didn't get orders correct and there seemed to be confusion. My dish was the last to come out, and a staff member had to ask me again what I ordered before bringing it out. Ambiance: The place is a good size with many tables that can accommodate large and small groups. The place does get packed, and there is often a wait during peak meal times. Was pleasantly surprised by this place, given it's in AC. Was looking to get away from the mediocre casino food. Pho taste great. I think it's the best that I've had on the East Coast actually. It seems like a safe space where everyone seems to diverge in- cops, casino workers, visitors and locals alike. Food is hearty and comforting, nothing fancy and straight to the point Vietnamese food. This is one of those local neighborhood no frills spots you find yourself keep coming back to. The food is solid, I have tried their beef cube fried rice, their pho and the sautéed lemon grass beef. Their avocado shake used to be good but the recent time I ordered it tasted like burnt plastic and had a weird color to it. I ended up having to send it back. Their pho soup base tends to be on the sweeter side but overall still delicious. There is free parking nearby, the only thing I don't like about this place is that although there's prices on the menu, you can never figure out how they got to the total they provide you. The sandwich is cheaper than other places but it's noticeably smaller with less meat however the quality is very high and more flavorful by far. Its almost too flavorful; sweet, salty, and smoky. I was disgusted, I literally just finished eating mine and my friend looked at hers before she ate it and it had live maggots in it. I was sick to my stomach when she showed me the worm on a napkin. I've been coming here for over 10 years, but never again. He didn't even apologize, he literally asked me if I wanted him to make another one. Like are you serious right now? You made that? Great tasting pho and appetizers at Pho Sydney. I like the name of the restaurant as I'm usually use to seeing Vietnamese restaurants aptly named "Pho Saigon or hut" What's in a name anyways? You either deliver the goods or not and they deliver all the time I come here with hot piping delicious pho and appetizers. The pho broth looks murky which is always a good sign that it's been steeped and seasoned well. The sliced cuts of beef and tendon are soft and tender. The grilled pork chops, chicken and cubed beef are lightly sweet, savory and has a decadent smokey infused flavor that multiplied the yummy factor from good to OMG good! PRO TIP - You can ask them to blanch the bean sprouts. They will already have been cooked when you place them in the broth and won't rob the heat of the broth. My brother in law had the banh mi sandwich which he really enjoyed, he did complain that there were heavy handed on the use of cilantro. Great service and having a parking lot is a big plus. Recs: +++Bun rieu- they have the best crab/pork meatballs and are one of the rare places that serve this dish with pork blood cubes. +++Cha Gio (pork and shrimp fried spring roll)- their rolls are delightfully crispy and flavorful. It's hard to put into words what makes their spring rolls unique but it's one of the best I've had in a Vietnamese restaurant. As you get close to the entrance door, you get the blast of aroma of Vietnamese cuisine. Inside of tue restaurant is average, under maintained. Just enough stuff to keep things going. The menu has most of the well know dishes, soup, noddles, rice dishes, and appetizers. The sautéed chicken was average, the dry chicken didn't help either. The rice was also not the best quality. The fish sauce sorted helped me to finish the whole plate. The Thai iced tea is also pre made and kept in refrigerator. It tasted bland to us. Decent pho! We ordered the #12 and #9 to go. Came out in around 10 minutes. Only large is allowed to be ordered to go due to the containers that they carry. They do a good job separating the meats in the styrofoam containers, personally feel like they skimped out a bit on the tripe and the tendon. The broth isn't super hot, if you order to go, I recommend putting everything in the broth right away. We didn't have a microwave in our hotel room and definitely figured that was the best way. What a hidden gem in Atlantic City. Thank you Yelpers for guiding me to this awesome spot. When I think of AC, Vietnamese does not cross my mind. The restaurant is located on a major street but away from the the major hotels and boardwalk. They do have a small, free parking lot. I must admit that this is the perfect food to nurse a hangover and it was exactly what I needed after an eventful night. The place is bustling with locals and it was good sign that this place was hopping shortly after opening on a Sunday. We were lucky to beat a huge group of people and were seated right away. Service is brusque, but we didn't come here for fine dining. The menu is extensive and has lots of choices. We were able to try a few pho, a banh mi, banh xeo and a rice dish. The pho is so flavorful and has a ton of meat and noodles. A large soup can feed 2 people. I really enjoyed the banh xeo and was so surprised how large it was. The only thing disappointing was the amount of ice in the iced coffee. I had to drink it later to allow the ice to melt a bit. Overall, I will definitely return whenever I'm in the area. Fav Vietnamese spot in Atlantic City! Been here before many years ago and so glad they didn't close down after Covid. The space is modern and offers multiple tables. We walked in around 2pm, during lunch and there were plenty of seats. But soon more people came in within the next 30 mins and all tables were taken. This was on a Saturday. Servers were nice and attentive. We got the Bun Bo Hui and it's a traditional soup that not many places I've been to offer. Spend a few days in AC & not really in the mood for board walk fare, so took a few block walk off the boardwalk to get to this Pho spot. Worth the walk. The service is fast & friendly. On a weekday lots of indoor seating. The place looks open & clean. The pho is good, broth is savory, lots of meats & greens to go with it. The pork chop that was recommended taste good too, although i like mine with a little more fat on it. The battered shrimp dish was just ok, shrimps are plump but the batter lacks flavor in my opinion. Whenever I travel for work, I love to check out the local pho shops. So when I was in AC for a conference and needed my pho fix, I came across Pho Sydney. Conveniently located only a 10-15 min walk from the convention center. I actually visited 2 days in a row for lunch. I've experienced a lot of pho and I can honestly say that this was top 3 for me. My pho tai had a lot of tender and perfectly chewy beef strips. Awesome broth and veggie plate galore. Bonus points for bringing a lot of jalapeños. Their summer rolls were also fantastic. I could tell this was a locals favorite...luckily it wasn't too crowded when I was there. I also noticed several AC law enforcement agents eating there, including a couple of SWAT. Little hole in the wall stashed away. On a cold day, I was on the lookout for some pho. I ordered spring rolls, which came out fresh and piping hot. It was not the best as it was a bit on the bland side. The pho was great, though. You really don't have to add anything to make it what it should be. My only complaint is that it came with very little meat. I added some jalapeño, Sriracha, sprouts, basil, and lime, and it hit the spot. I replaced the rice noodles with egg noodles, which was pretty cool. I never had such thin noodles before. It held up well in the soup. Everything cost me less than $20. read more
