The spring rolls were also very good, filled with pork and shrimp. The pho was good. Large portions. The noodles were slightly undercooked and they also put too much noodles relative to the broth. One of the best banh mi sandwiches we now have and they have a variety of them. The bread is served warm and has a nice crisp and the tangy julienned vegetables and pork are perfect. I also had the oxtail pho and have to take one star away because the four small oxtails were tough as rubber soles. Not a great analogy I know but seriously it's a good thing for them that the Pho itself was delicious and the rice noodles were cooked perfectly. Excellent umami and I finished it to the last drop! Came to the restaurant because I was craving Pho. The broth was very flavorful and a very tasty umami undertone. I order #34 and the tendons in it were a hit . They were so good! The noodles were very chewy and well cooked. This is one of the better pho I've had in a while. I came back to give this place a second chance. The only hiccup was I looked closer there was a hair on the plate of my spring rolls. It was immediately rectified. The waiter was very kind and attentive. I'm glad I came back. A little bit of home, Yelpers did not disappoint. When it's cold in California we eat Pho And Pho Tasty was a fun find. They are a little restaurant right on the main road in castleton, right in front of the mall. Pricing is fair for the food quality and quantity. I couldn't believe how big their regular size soup bowls are because in California the bowls this size are considered large and cost more. I had so much soup I had to bring it back with me to where we have been staying here in Indiana. It's too good not too Drink quality is great too, I ordered a traditional Thai tea with Boba and it was fantastic! Couldn't stop drinking it. Picked up some pho this afternoon to warm our bellies as the temp outside starts to feel like fall! The decision to pickup from here was easy since most other vietnamese restaurants seem to be closed on Sundays. We did carry out #31 house bowl (comes with rare steak, cartilage, ox tail, meatballs, tripe) and #32(rare steak only). Same as most pho places they package all the fixins separate from the broth. When winter comes, soup is my go to. Specifically, Pho. They have one of the best pho in town. I ordered spring rolls for appetizer, the dipping sauce is peanut base super delicious. my go to pho is Pho Tai, and the soup is very rich in flavor and you can smell the aroma of the soup, which are signs of authenticity. If only they had a 2nd person scheduled to work a little before noon (on a Sunday) then we would likely have had adequate wait service. For those new to vietnamese cuisine, the bahn mi is an amazing delicious hoagie- type sandwich that can be warm or cold. It's often filled with grilled meat, veggies, hot jalapeno. Best Pho in Indianapolis. The place is clean during covid and you can dine indoors. As a Asian who eats pho once a week and traveled every states in US this place is a gem. This is my favorite pho place by far! I've tried at least 4 different places and this one tastes the closest to the way my dad makes it. So it may be a personal preference but I am always greeted when I walk in by two ladies. The bowls are large and more than I can eat but I tend to have a smaller appetite that most people. I love that they give you all the fixings (sriracha, hoisin sauce, spouts, basil, etc). The prices are standard and there's not an excess of menu items. We needed some warm and amazing soup we decided to venture out for some Pho! We stopped at Pho Tasty located in a strip center in front of the Castleton Square Mall. The space has grey ceramic tile floors, bright orange walls, modern acrylic pendant light fixtures, and a large TV. There are various flyers taped to the walls advertising their Banh Mi snadwiches and bubble teas. One end of the space has a counter and a glass front refrigerator case. We were promptly greeted upon entering and told to sit anywhere we would like. We started with Soft Spring Rolls (fresh garden rolls with shrimp and pork served with a peanut dipping sauce) and ordered two steaming hot bowls of Pho! They offered us our choice of rice noodles or egg noodles and we stuck with the rice. I went with chicken pho and added vegetables. It came out hot and steaming and was quite a pleasant taste not spicy at all. I added the seasoning to my taste and it was fabulous! For a Vietnamese restaurant, this place is not authentic at all. Ordered the BBQ pork spring rolls to start off, did not taste NOTHING like BBQ, in fact the roll was stuffed with an egg roll with a thin piece of pork. This is unusual since traditionally we don't do that, the pork should already be marinated in the sauce then grilled. My boyfriend got the Com Thit Heo which is one of the rice dishes, it didn't come with a fried egg so we requested it. Unfortunately the egg came out way too undercooked, the meat was underwhelming as well. Then there's my dish which I am HIGHLY disappointed in. Bun Bo Hue is my favorite dish, now usually at any Vietnamese restaurant you won't see them including the blood cubes which is always in this soup, so I didn't expect that to be in the dish, however, this dish is supposed to be the spiciest soup in Vietnam, this however, was NOTHING at all the same. Instead I got a pho taste instead. It was so damn sweet I couldn't even eat it. Tried the chili oil, did nothing whatsoever, after that I just went ham and doused a ton of sririacha and it still could not remove that sweet taste. Unfortunately I will not be coming back. My wife has been wanting to try pho for quite a while now. We went the other day for lunch, and man was I impressed. I enjoyed this restaurant due to the waiter service, however you would not have to wait for long. Unfortunately, we went at lunch, which was very crowded and slightly understaffed. It took a little while for service once our food was ordered, but it didn't bother me too bad. My wife got the taro bubble tea, which I even thought was delicious. For lunch I went with the pho kimchi. They warned that it was spicy, and they were right. Just the right amount of spice with the cabbage and steak. The noodles were delicious and the presentation was outstanding. I also enjoyed the plate of sprouts and freshly sliced jalapeños to add as you eat. We also split an order of pork egg rolls which were very good. One other thing I'd like to note is size and portion. For only $10, you get a bowl of pho the size of your head. Honestly, I was not expecting this. I felt like I had been eating forever and still took half of it home. It was just as good reheated. We entered Pho Tasty at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon and were not sure if you were to seat yourself, approach the counter in the back, or what. We were finally told to "just sit anywhere" if we were eating in and opted for a table near the windows. From there, we sat for a full 18 minutes before being approached at all. The family beside us left at about the 15 minute mark. However, we quickly noticed that the gentleman that directed us toward our seats was *the only one* working the front of the house, so we decided to suspend judgement and just wait. Admittedly, I am not well versed in Vietnamese cuisine and always get the same thing. I perused the menu and noticed they only had beef or pork Pho options, and I usually get chicken. Hmmm. The sole waiter (the owner maybe?) finally came to take our order and I asked about Chicken Pho. He said it was an option ("many Americans like the chicken"), it's just not on the menu. Score. The Hubs branched out and got the #28 (rice and egg noodles with shrimp). Of course we got the spring rolls (sans pork) with peanut dipping sauce. When our food came out my husband's had pork in it when he had ordered shrimp, and only rice noodles. Our server brought his order tablet back to compare, then left and brought back the menu, then left and came back again before agreeing to bring my husband what he had originally ordered. Luckily I take notes for my reviews in real time, so I was able to confirm that he had indeed ordered the #28. Whew. I would think they should have just taken it away and made it right from jump instead of making 3 trips back to the table to look at the dish again, but that's just me. Taste wise, the rolls were good. The peanut sauce was sparse and topped with a gob of onions, which gave it a strange onion-y taste that I am not used to, but to each their own I guess. My pho hit the spot despite having onions in it when I asked for no onions, and once the hubs got the right meal, his was "ok", too. Things we learned at our visit: -- The Groupon must be used for Pho dishes ONLY and other entrees will not be discounted. Ask at the beginning to be sure that what you order will be covered under these guidelines. -- Bathrooms are clean, dining space is bright and nice -- Service can be a little slow and water refills were difficult to obtain -- We may give it another shot for take-out as dining in took a really long time for a Sunday afternoon. All in all I became homesick for my little Pho spot on the Westside after our visit to Pho Tasty as the service and food is ALWAYS stellar at my former spot... oh well. Just okay, not the best I've ever had. Spring rolls were not flaky crispy, but rather hard crispy - like cooked too long, and tasted too much of fish sauce. Actually, most of our food tasted of too much fish sauce. Quality, or maybe cut of meat was not good in my noodle dish - many pieces that were mostly fat, but the beef in girlfriend pho was much better. Stopped by this place since it was in the area where we were running errands. Small typical Vietnamese restaurant that were ran by a couple servers in the front. Pretty friendly and fast in terms of service. The menu had a good variety in food. Their specials included bun bo hue, bun rieu, and a vegetarian curry dish. For apps, had the egg rolls which was ok. It came out hot and crispy but the filling was too starchy. The spring rolls were decent wrapped in fresh ingredients but the dipping sauce had too much peanut butter which is not a preference. Ordered the bun bo hue which was edible. It was not bland but lacked some of the aromatics in what constitutes a great bowl of soup. The banh khot came out hot and crispy on the outside but lacked the shrimp and had too much ground pork. It seemed a little undercooked in the middle so had a battery aftertaste to it. If you are craving Viet food and running low on time and in the area, not a terrible place. But there are better restaurants to try in Indy. read more
