Wow who would've thought this little hole in the wall spot was THAT busy during lunch hours? Every single table was occupied, with a couple people waiting around to order to go. I was craving banh mi adn even gave up going to the indian food buffet for this. The lady at the counter, alongside the other elderly gentlemen working here were all very friendly. But in a very subtle, non invasive kind of way. I watched how they interacted with patrons here and you could tell many were regulars. Large selection of items from spring rolls, pho, rice dishes, banh mi and drinks. Typical vietnamese fare. What I did notice is that everything is served impeccably clean. No grease on the rice plates or soup bowls. Prices are cheap! $3.50 for my banh mi. Anyway my sandwich was large, and heaping with bbq pork. I kept the tomato and cucumber inside and discarded all the cilantro. I was quite impressed how much meat they put in there. Bread was decent, but I would've wanted it toasted a little more. Good food and fast service! Always try to find a spot to pick up authentic pho to wrap up a cold day. Stopped by and ordered food for the first time. They were super quick and ready to go within 5 mins. The pho was well loaded with tons of meat and tasted great! We came back second time and called in to order first. I found one! yelp helped me locate this decent little pho place on Imperial..It's a little hidden. I got their combo pho(the one with all the meat) and their spring rolls (shrimp) and their thai tea. Their pho is GOOOD. I've read few reviews complaining that it's not authentic but in Brea this is as AUTHENTIC as you can get! lol lol Their Spring Rolls are the business! I prefer the shrimp one but the pork one was okay in my opinion. The pho soup/ broth doesn't taste too korean. If any of you know what I'm talking about the pho soup actually kind of taste authentic. Ordered to go from Postmates. When I received my order I did not get any utensils or a bowl to mix the broth with the meat/veggies together. I have ordered Pho to go many times from various restaurants and always get a bowl and utensils. I called the restaurant to ask why I did not get a bowl or utensils with my order and was told I selected not to receive utensils with my order, I have attached the screenshot of my order proving that to be a false statement. I was also told they do not provide bowls and if i wanted a bowl i would have to request that however that was not an option on Postmates. I ordered this to be delivered to me at work. I do not have a bowl or utensils to actually eat my lunch with. The lady in the phone was not concerned and said that it was my fault for not ordering utensils. The food was good and I thought the service was pretty decent too. I took my family here for lunch we sat and ate. Everything was good until it came to pay. I gave the young lady cash and then to charge the rest to my card. She over charged me by 6$ not alot when I confronted the young lady the older women said we both counted the cash you gave me. Just something to look out for if your paying cash. What a disappointment to see people scamming over such a small amount of money. Hands down the worst banh mi I've ever had. Not even because it's not authentic, it's just a very bad sandwich in general. The bread was stale, you could tell it's days-old bread, and it wasn't even toasted. The Mayo is just plain white American Mayo, so bland and lacks flavor. The meat (chicken BBQ) was generic grocery store marinade, no other flavor but sweetness. And where is the famous banh mi pickles carrot and daikon pickles? None. The pho was whatever. Can't say it's bad, but it's not great. We also tried the beef plates to share, it's good, but not vietnamese flavor for sure. Price-wise was definitely more expensive than other pho or banh mi places. The service was nice and quick. It's cash only. I was very disappointed with the pork spring rolls. They were loosely wrapped, almost thrown together, and missing the herbs and green onion. The shaken beef dish lacked flavor and was extremely soggy overall. The veggies were mostly a mush and the beef was not good quality. The pho was okay - not the best I've had but alright. They are not generous with the herbs and bean sprouts which is very disappointing for the price. I cannot say we will be back. read more

It's more like a 3.5 rating, but I rounded up because it's still my go-to place for pho. I only know of one other pho restaurant in Brea so there isn't much competition if you're looking for pho specifically in this area. I like that the pho is light because the soup base is not overly salty. The meat is okay too. I usually get the rare steak and it can be a bit tough sometimes, but I recently tried the brisket and I think I'll stick to the brisket. It's more tender and fatty (which I like). Parking is easy to find. It's located in a small plaza where there isn't much going on so there's always parking available. The service is a real plus though. The servers are usually pretty attentive. The last time I went on a Sunday night, they were closing soon, but our server was so sweet and really let us take our time eating. If you want some amazing pho, you probably want to go to Garden Grove, but if you live in the Brea area, Pho Tay Bac is still worth going to. I'll continue coming back! read more

Came here for lunch with my coworkers and the food was great. Solid pho in Brea. One of very few pho restaurants around the area. I love the humble customer service they provided here. We had a pretty large group of 10 people, but they happily moved the tables to cater us. It was exceptional customer service. I got the small sized Pho Tai and their broth was delicious. My favorite pho place. The broth is anise heavy, and something about it soothes my soul. Some menu items are worth skipping: ie the sautéed veggies, but others are a must. I came to Brea over the past weekend for a dental hygiene seminar and found this spot on Yelp because I was craving a hot bowl of pho for my terrible cough lol This place had the best ratings in Brea, CA so it was a must. My friend and I ordered pho to go and it came out ready within a couple minutes. I ordered a large pho with well done brisket, rare steak and flank and it was about ~$8. The customer service was great because the cashier explained which meats I should get since I like certain parts of the meat and everything came out fast along with small packaged cups of the hoisin, chili oil and siracha ready to go. I couldn't finish the large pho but it was delicious eating it. I should have asked for a little bit more limes but the meats were soft and cooked well in the flavorful broth. How in the world is this place rated so high? In short, they don't serve authentic pho here. The broth tastes off, the garnishes look old, and they use noodles that are slightly flat and overlooked - definitely NOT reminiscent of authentic Vietnamese pho. The restaurant itself is also dirty and features a random assortment of items for sale too, such as candy, bags of chips, etc. Totally weird and makes you feel like you're inside a warehouse or a kid's snack shack! We also tried the BBQ pork spring rolls and while the rolls actually did come wrapped in rice paper, the BBQ pork looked completely artificial and was a brilliant red color. Once again, it didn't taste like any of the fine Vietnamese cuisine I'm used to. Heck, I at least thought this place might be able to redeem themselves with their unique "Arnold Palmer", which is a mix of their jasmine iced tea and lemonade - both of which they claim they make fresh daily. However, one sip alone was unbearable, as the drink was watered down and strangely bitter from the rind of a lime slice that was floating inside the drink. Ugh, seriously the only thing this place probably has going for it is the fact that their prices are pretty reasonable, but...for what? Their food is totally gross anyway and I honestly question how sanitary this place is, based on the random junk inside the store and how unkept all of the utensils, tables, chairs, etc. are. Lunch special runs from 11am to 4pm. You can choose between pho, spicy beef noodle soup, or egg noodle pho. Then, you choose an appetizer which is chicken wings, gyoza, egg rolls, or shrimp spring rolls. Lastly, you get free Thai tea or green tea ice cream!(the dessert is all day) Egg rolls taste fresh and full of flavor, it's served with a some green leaf lettuce and pickled veggies to wrap and dip in the sauce! I love this place. The first time I ever had pho was at a restaurant just like this one! It was called Kim Loan and sadly it has been permanently closed for quite a while. My friend called me up on my Nokia N95 using his Motorola RAZR V3 (you can see how long ago this was) and asked if I wanted to try a Vietnamese soup called "Pho". He had had it with his girlfriend and her family and he said it was crazy delicious. I had no idea what Vietnamese food was. At the time all I knew about Asian cuisine was kung pao chicken, chicken teriyaki, and fried rice -feels shame-. I agreed to try it. The flavors, the smells, the hustle of patrons and workers, the volume, the activity of eating pho with chopsticks and the little soup spoon was so intense and overwhelming I thought I was going to be sick and then pass out! I shook it off! They pho was compelling me to! Like Father Karras (The Exorcist) I didn't finish my bowl. Not because I felt sick or thought I was going to pass out but because of the huge portions of meat and noodles! The hooks were in and I was, well, hooked! I haven't looked back since. Until now. Pho Tay Bac socked me in my nostalgia! The smells coming out of the kitchen were intoxicating. Just walking in there made me smile! I don't get that even in really really good pho shops. This place is supremely comforting to me. It felt like I was coming home. I can't believe it! The staff is great. The two I met were young and beautiful. The pho is quite good! It's good pho!
