Despite they have good food and majority of guests and reviewers rated Pho Tay Do pretty decently, the service was bad. Visited the restaurant several time, on a busy week day lunch hour, the service is good. But last visit on a Sunday evening, there were only two Vietnamese guys there, seemed like owner himself and his employee. Asked for extra plate for our kids three time and ten minutes later still no extra plate was provided. With food already on table, our kids were starving and were only able to watch the food to turn cold. In addition, their kitchen staff must be smoking cigarette in the kitchen. Once walked in to the restaurant, you can smell the cigarette. Not a very good environment and image for restaurant. read more

Been here a few times. I've always enjoyed the convenience and tasty meals, plus the prices are very reasonable. Will agree that the wait staff usually asks for your order as soon as they hand you the menu and can be inattentive when it comes to refilling glasses of water. That been said, I was disappointed with what I observed on my last visit. To me, basil completes the Pho meal and always look forward the fresh sprigs on that are served, along with the sprouts and lime. On my last visit I observed how the young man cleaning the tables saved some sprigs from where someone had already eaten and put them with what seemed to me was a "clean" batch. Like what everyone has already mentioned the bun bo hue is legit. Pig feet and pig blood? Yes, I would say that's makes this thing pretty authentic. It's the only thing I've ever ordered and that most likely will not change. Watch out for the spice level (mine came out extra spicy one time) and that new white shirt that you just purchased. I made the mistake in coming here with white tee and now it's got faint spots on it even after some heavy duty scrubbing. No bueno. Other than that "bad" experience this place is awesome. This dish is very difficult to find as close to a good bowl of home-cooked Bun Bo Hue, you'll find here that it's deep, hearty, spicy and true. 3.5 solid~ hole in the wall PHO joint across from 24 hr fitness on campbell / plano road. they have great meatball pho and bad @$$ rice plates....large portion of meat their pho broth is very tastey as well unlike some of the other chain type of places the only complain is sometimes it's packed of old drunk people that like to BYOB to the joint and it's very loud and hard to enjoy your food food quality is good...service is so so ... Although it's named "pho" tay do, I only come here for the bun bo hue! I have come here 10+ times and they are always consistent. The broth is so flavorful and keeps me wanting to come back for more. The service isn't the best, but what do you expect for an asian place right? I am just there to EAT good food! it's saturday (3/28/09) and the late-season blizzard that hit the western plains is sending March out like a lion with a frost and 40mph wind gusts. time for some hot soup! i've seen the restaurant several times over several years and thanks to yelp, decided to stop in and try the Bun Bo Hue that everyone raves on. when i sat down near the register i kept smelling ammonia. i moved tables three times and finally didn't smell it after i moved to the table closest to the door. i ordered the Bun Bo Hue. Warning: it's about 7/10 on the "adventurous eating" scale. thankfully the waiter asked me if i wanted the pig foot and blood. when i asked about the blood he pointed to the photo on the cover of the menu (kind of a liver-colored gel). i ordered it the way it's served, large. it came quickly. other ingredients in the bowl include an enormous portion of a rice noodle that looks like a fat spaghetti (even a wheat-like color), generous tender beef slices (with tendon i think), a slice of pork with chewy fat around the edge, a couple of slices of very light-colored sausage (sorry, don't know the name, but it's tasty!), the small pork hock and a few blood cubes in a pho broth with red pepper flakes and a red chili-colored ring of oil around the rim of the broth, some green onion and other chopped herb (cilantro? parsley?). on the side are the usual sprouts, basil and lime, plus some shredded red cabbage. it's good, really, but it's not the reason that i like pho (the pepper overwhelms the subtleties of the broth and herbs). it's my own ignorance but why is Bo Bun Hue categorized with the bun (the noodle salads)? because of the noodles? i've ordered it once before thinking i was ordering a kind of spicy Bun. i don't remember the soup [ from Huong Ly ] being as good as this was. all in all, i probably won't come here again unless i get a strong craving for this particular soup. the ammonia smell almost ruined it, and the reviews about the other dishes from other reviewers has kept me from exploring further. read more

I am from Hue which is the birth place of bun bo Hue hence the name. It's not as good as my sister's or mom's but it'll do when I have a craving. The price has gone up in recent years but the portion size is inline with the price so I won't complain. When I buy to-go, the large feeds both me and my hubby comfortably....not the case when eating there. No clue why. The spice level people mention I don't agree with but then again my tongue is now void of any sensation due to years of eating spicy food. Let's recap: Bun Bo Hue (spicy broth thicker vermicelli noodles with tender beef and pork)=Good. Pho = get it somewhere (Ex. Pho Bang) Atmosphere: The decor is minimal and it was pretty quiet considering there were 3 tables taken up and the TV was on. The waitress that we had was pretty attentive. Originally from Houston, I am very used to being surrounded by Viet food everywhere, but Dallas has a wonderful variety as well. This place was recommended to me by a friend, who claimed that the bun thit nuong was out of this world. He was right! The meat is deliciously juicy and moist, and it pairs very well with the noodles and veggies that are served with it. One downside to this place is that it is right next to a cigar shop, which seeps into the vents of the restaurant. While this is completely out of their control, it still lowkey sucks. However, if you don't mind that smell, or you think it's worth it (like me), definitely give this place a try. Everytime I see someone with a bowl of pho, I always think, "silly customer, you must be new here." Their bun bo hue IS SO GOOD, better than my mom's, but don't tell her I said that. :) I usually only like coming here when the weather starts to cool down. During the summer, eating a bowl of BBH will make you sweat your butt off! Also, they put a lot of shrimp paste in their broth, so you might want to bring some Listerine. The reason I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because of their service. It is awful. I understand it gets quite busy during certain times of the day, but being in business for as long as they have, they should know better by now and hire more people! Case in point, I came in one day, the place is packed, but I managed to get seated within 10 minutes. No waiter came to our table within that 10 minutes to hand us a menu or ask if we wanted anything to drink. There was a couple that had come in after us, so I told my fiance if they get their menu before we do, we are leaving. Sure enough, that's what happened. They got their menus, and I got up and left. I was so mad at them, I didn't come in for nearly a year! But lo and behold, I am back... I couldn't find a place that makes half as decent BBH. Devastating. The only other Vietnamese place I've been to is Pho Coloniel, and the quality of the food here is on par. And cheaper. atmosphere is not great, unless you like the fact that it is full of Vietnamese people .. Says something about the authenticity of the food.
