I've been going to Pho Time since I moved to San Diego in 2012, and in all that time I've never once had a bad experience. And I'm talking probably once or twice a month at least. The people are great, super friendly, they work hard, and the food is consistently amazing. The service is great, they're always super fast, and they're fantastic for the price you pay. I think my husband and I have brought every person who has come to visit us to this restaurant. Unfortunately, we moved to South Bay a couple years ago so we don't get to go as often, but we still try to order from here every couple of months. read more

We came in and ordered to go. They made everything quickly, but when I asked for extra sauce, one of the workers handed me a cup, pointed at a table and rushed away. I assumed that meant I should use the condiments on the dining table to fill the cup so I did that, then asked if I could have one more for hot sauce. The worker angrily walked back and tossed to-go sauce packets on the table. I don't know why he didn't just hand those to me in the first place. THE WORST PART THOUGH was getting home and finding a long black hair wrapped around the basil served with Pho. My stomach has been hurting all night. Would NOT recommend this place. So being Vietnamese, I almost never ever ever want to cheat on my mom's pho but I was with a group of friends who were craving pho &/or just really hungover so we ended up here because it was the only place open at the time we looked up the options on yelp. I think the only good thing about this place is that their pho portion seemed pretty decent sized (broth to noodle ratio was okay) and somehow the pho stayed hot nearly the entire time I was eating? Crazy. Actually our waitress was nice and patient but that's all that was good from this place. Anyway, I decided to order Vietnamese coffee which is typically $2.50 almost anywhere and everywhere in Seattle but here it was $4.25? Insane! I could go to Starbucks and order a double espresso with white mocha for $3.10 for the same tasting coffee and a little bit cheaper. I'd say I'd drink at home but I'm not from San Diego.... :) anyway, we also ordered spring rolls and the peanut sauce wasn't even good. It was extremely light in color and super watery. Ate the whole thing anyway because I was hungry but the best part of the whole mea was probably just my pho. When it was time to pay, the girl who took our order passed it on to some guy and I had let him know what I ordered at least twice in English and once in Vietnamese to make sure he knew what I ordered. My total for pho, one Vietnamese coffee, and an order of spring rolls came out to be ~$26 before tip. Again, I hate to compare it to Seattle since I'm well aware I'm not there but damn! $26 can take care of two bowls of pho up here and even enough for a che ba mau (3 color dessert). Whatever. I paid and left since our Uber was on the way. My friend had paid before me for both her and her sister and from the conversation I was overhearing, it was kind of what had happened to me with the waitress repeating what they had ordered literally four times (FOUR!! This whole exchange was also in Vietnamese) to that guy who was behind the register. I really don't think he should've been there at all because the miscommunication was wild. We headed out to our Uber when he was yelling saying that one of us hadn't paid for our meal. Extremely frustrating but good thing we don't live in San Diego so we're definitely never coming back again :) read more

I just wanted to say thank you to Pho Time for being so ON POINT every single time. When I want a good meal, I always know that Pho Time will deliver. (also, they deliver haha) Probably why I have checked in 24 times and have come back at least 50 times. I bring all my friends here when they say they are craving pho. My boyfriend loved the Bun Bo Hue and said it was more delicious than the pho. Recently we ordered their dumplings and their golden wings. SO GOOD. How is it that every single thing on their menu is done so well?? Lately we have also been ordering to-go their Time Vermicelli Special with a side of broth. Perfect combination. My fiancé and I tried this place for lunch on a Sunday just to try it and it really isn't a great pho place. I had the #1 and my fiancé had the #16. The regular steak was fine, but they used an extremely tough meat in the #1, not sure what it was (and no it wasn't the tripe). The broth used a lot of MSG (not knocking it since we Vit tend to do that), but there was very little actually beef or other flavor to the broth. Not to mention it's about $10 for what basically amounts for a small bowl in most other good places. My fiancé and I probably won't be returning to this place because this place can't even hold a candle to our favorite place, Pho Hoa, up in city heights, much less Pho Sao Bien or even PB Pho and Grill nearby. So my advice is if you're in the mood for pho, skip this place and just go down to Pho Sao Bien. If it's late night, then go down to PB pho and grill. read more

This was my first time here and I ordered to go, but I'll definitely be coming here again. I ordered the Pho #1 (all the meats) and Pho #2 (veg) and both were great! Bonus points: the veg was even offered with veg broth. Summer rolls and Thai tea were also tasty. The staff was also super nice and friendly over the phone and in person. I have been on a hunt for my new pho spot in PB because I just moved down. This is the second place I've tried and I was kind of let down again. Maybe everything will pale in comparison to my original favorite. The ambiance is bad in this place, it feels like an overly quiet lunch hall with bad lighting and decorations. The vibe of a restaurant is half the battle in my reviews. Though I did think the fish tank was neat, but those are pretty typical in a lot of pho joints. The food was eh. Eh because it's slightly under mediocre but I would eat it in a crunch again. The steak they put in my pho was more like medallion sized jerky. The broth was very good. My espresso and condensed milk (which I order frequently) was disgusting, the condensed milk to espresso ratio was way off. I hate to be a picky a**hole, but don't mess with my espresso. The egg rolls were again were eh. Our server was capable and friendly. No complaints there! I'll keep looking for my old reliable, wish me luck. read more

one of the classier pho places in SD. overall, I thought my pho had wonderful flavor. i was swayed by a posted photo of the seafood pho -- but I wouldnt recommend getting as a majority (all?) of the seafood was "seafood." it had things that looked like lobster, looked like scallops, etc...but please, for the price tag I should have known better :) I guess most of this stuff is seafood paste of some variety and has a congealed tofu-like texture. maybe it is tofu, i dont know. but even though everything was mock seafood (except the shrimp...pretty sure that was shrimp but ive been amazed by vegan "shrimp" so who knows) it still has a higher price tag than standard items like the rare beef or chicken - $8.50 I believe. I'm not saying it didnt taste good, I just dont think its worth it. I'll come back and get the aforementioned instead. Someone in my party got the chicken and really enjoyed - said it was basically an entire white meat chicken in there. my cousin raved about "complimentary" side bread for dipping. i believe its the bread used for the Banh mì's. ya well...its not complimentary, they charge $1.50 for it. definitely good but not worth the price. ill admit my dining for pho is mainly for cheap, quick, and delicious. so when i pay unnecessary extras like "seafood" and "bread" to make it over $10, i realize i did it wrong. also, if my tummy is gonna hurt from the weirdness of components and MSG one way or another, it might as well be cheap! all in all, pho time is worthy of its popularity...just make sure you order right. i was also given the heads up from a friend to order the rare beef on the side and put in on your own to ensure it doesnt get overcooked. good idea! read more

Pretty decent pho. Affordable. Not quite legit as what I find over on El Cajon Blvd....but the brith has a rich enough flavor. People who own/work here are very nice. Never too crowded. Love the Tai Pho. The beef is lean, the broth flavorful and the portion more than generous! The vegetarian pho is not as flavorful, but they offer tons of sauces to fix this yourself. Mix lightly is my own suggestion. You can always add more seasoning, but you can't take it away. This place is a great sit-down, although the service is just okay.
