When I want Vietnamese and am too lazy to cook it, this is my go-to place. This is a pretty good Viet Restaurant...probably the best in El Paso, but definitely not the best ever. The Good: -Egg rolls: delicious - ask for extra salad to wrap the egg rolls -Pho (Beef Noodle soup): pretty good, clear broth. Good amount of meat. -Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Noodle soup): My favorite there. The best in town, and pretty authentic but sometimes missing the right types of meat. -A good variety of Viet food. The Not-so-Bad: -Spring rolls: pretty good, but they don't have a shrimp and pork mix. It's either one or the other. -Bun thit nuong (Vermicelli w/ grilled pork): is just OK. Pork is sometimes dry. -Mi Xa Xiu Tom (Egg Noodle soup w/ marinated pork and shrimp: not bad. Nice lean pork, broth was ok. -Ca Kho (Fish in a clay pot): good flavor if they decreased the SALT. -Decor: Pretty cool patio with the Koi pond, etc. But I hate the creepy, depressed paintings surrounding the restaurant. The Ugly: -Service: hit or miss. Food: 4 Service: 4 Value: 1 1/2 So I had a craving for pho and since we drove past this place a few times, I decided to try it out. Being from Southern California, I suppose I had some expectations. Externally, the place is like any other restaurant. Similar to the places in Los Angeles, but I walked in and it gave me this weird vibe that it's going to be expensive. I looked at the menu and, yup, my concerns came true. Definitely overpriced. But since I hadn't had a good sit-down place this trip to El Paso, I decided to splurge a little bit. 2 Shrimp spring rolls came with a small amount of peanut sauce. It came... on a boat. I looked around but didn't see T-Pain. The spring rolls were definitely softened (re: Americanized) in order to appease everyone. The bowl came along with a side-plate of herbs, jalapenos, lime, and bean sprouts. I was a little disappointed in the size of the large. Was the regular-sized meant to feed children? The broth was definitely toned way down compared to a lot of other Vietnamese places I've eaten at. The taste of it was quite good, but it was also toned down to appease everyone. The most authentic part of this meal was the uncooked bean sprouts and the tripe. Speaking of the tripe, I added the tripe to my order. There's a "Large rare steak, brisket, tendon, and tripe" dish for a dollar more. So I'm not sure why I got charged $2.50 (oh by the way, that's also not on the menu) to add tripe to my bowl. Two spring rolls with shrimp: $5.45 Large rare steak and brisket: $8.95 Extra tripe: $2.50 Tax and tip. So while the food was pretty good, I wouldn't consider it authentic by any stretch of the imagination; however, being the only place in town (and I'm pretty sure they know it, so they can charge whatever), it's not bad. Just be ready to spend about $15-20 per person. PS. I didn't see a bottle of Sriracha sauce (unless it's in the ketchup bottle) on the table. Total loss of street cred there. read more

The menu on the internet displayed delicious looking shrimp skewers, nice medium size shrimp with noodles, peanuts, scalons (were none), handful of peanuts...there were maybe 5 chopped up and priced at $11.95. It was actually $12.95, which isn't main issue...I advised the gal working the price was at $11.95 and she could have cared less. I get home, open up container and found about 8 popcorn shrimp, 4 to a skewer, the noodles must have come right out of the fridge with the lettuce and the shrimp were barely warm....was pathetic ...looked nothing like the pics on the internet....truly false advertising and bait and switch tactic. Here's the deal, I like their food. The food is good, I like the spring rolls, I like the pho, and I like the fried banana for dessert, food-wise this place is a total 4! Call me conservative, but when I was educated in the ways of pho I learned that one of the KEY elements is that it is supposed to be cheap. It doesn't matter how much you dress up the pho place, a bowl should at most cost $7, AT MOST! That's where Tre Bien loses a star, the bowl was like $10. Now I'm not being cheap, even though I'm poor, but a $10 bowl of pho is just plain wrong! I've see a few new places open with more reasonable prices, so hopefully that will bring the noodle inflation down. I order an extra-large Beef Pho soup and the portion was very small and only two pieces of beef on top. Very disappointed with the quantity and felt being ripped off and Pho is so inexpensive for the owner to skimp on that. I LOVE Pho. I was introduced to it in LA years ago. I always seek out pho places where ever I go. This is such an interesting place. There is a courtyard green house area, but it was December so we are inside. The place is a nice size with tables to accommodate a couple it a large party. The decor is not traditional culture and there was a jazz band playing live music. I had the brisket/ rare steak pho and it was delicious. It came with typical lime, sprouts, jalapeño slices, cilantro. The parents came with and had pho for the first time. They liked it. It was so good on a cold winter's evening. Thank goodness for Yelp! I searched for places to eat prior to arriving in El Paso. Pho Tre Bien was rated high and after our visit I see why. I had Thai iced tea, very delicious. I'm not a huge fan of the boba, so I had them put that on the side. As a appetizer we ordered the egg rolls sampler. I think my favorite roll was the one made out of Vietnamese leaves and meat. The wasn't pretty, but the flavors were amazing! For the entree, I ordered the large rare steak and brisket Pho (#13). Oh my goodness, what a bowl of greatness! The juice was very good and my husband and I were astounded by the amount of meat inside. The price was very reasonable. Very good authentic Vietnamese food at Pho Tre Bien, 6946 Gateway Blvd. East, El Paso, Texas. My name was wait-listed behind a party of two and a party of seven. It was my turn after a ten-minute wait. The owner, John Trien, cleaned and prepared a table for me. Seconds after being motioned to the table, I immediately relayed my order, Egg noodle seafood and a cold dark beer. The wife, Le Trien, was also taking food orders from newly seated customers. Both owners were amiable to customers. The clipboard for waiting list, was continuously being updated by new arriving hungry people. Did I mentioned that the restaurant was full? The chocolate, roasted malt flavor of the Black Butte Porter prepared my palate for the hot Egg noodle seafood soup, which was served after a ten-minute wait. The Thai basil leaves, fresh bean sprouts, thin slices of onions, cilantro, wedges of lime, and a slice of jalapeno without the seeds, nicely blended with the six pieces of shrimp, imitation crab and squid. The serving size and the price were reasonable. Both owners, alternately checked on my needs after another fifteen minutes. A wheelchair will safely navigate the hallway toward the restroom. The restroom was clean, and ADA compliant. Two of the six parking slots in front of Pho Tre Bien are for those with Disabled Permit only. Not bad yo. Had the pho tai and added meatballs in it. Not the best pho, but this is Texas. Really no complaints. I usually judge my pho heavily on the broth. If the broth needs help, then I say it's no good. The broth here didn't need any sauce from me, it was flavorful enough. Noodles were of good slurping length and were cooked right. Eating here was a good break from all of the American and Mexican food I was eating while working at El Paso hahaha. One time they didn't have beansprouts though. A pho place that doesn't have beansprouts for their pho.. what is that :(. I think that's a must have if you're going to serve pho. My disappointment was great that night. I went to Pho Tre Bien a while ago, and it was good. The restaurant is very open and well decorated. It has a nice feel to it as well. There is outside dinning with the view of a fish pond as you walk up, so that's kind nice. We started off with the spring rolls which were very fresh and tasty. I especially liked the dipping sauce that was served. It was like a sweet and sour sauce but better. The Pho was pretty good too. Served very warm with all the fresh toppings like cilantro, and sprouts on the side. The cost is a little higher than I'm used to in Southern California, but it wasn't outrageous. I'd definitely like to try it again and write an update. I'd give this place a try if you're ever in El Paso and have a craving for Pho. read more

When you walk in there's a beautiful koi pond and waterfall, which is very relaxing and lovely. Beautiful red lanterns decorate the interior,. I have am Vietnamese and have been looking for a good pho place to eat at in El Paso, TX. I see Pho Tre Bien in many different areas in El Paso and decided to give it a try. I got the Pho with Rare Steak and the Fried Eggrolls. I have to say that the pho is pretty mediocre. The ratio of meat they gave me to the pho noodles was really disappointing. The broth wasn't as rich and flavorful as other pho places I've had in different cities. The eggroll however was very fullfilling. It was crunchy and full of all the right flavors! They have the best Pho in town. I always get the rare beef and the Lumpia. They also have the best lumpia ive ever had!! The service is super super fast and the food always comes out hot. The servers are always so kind and make sure we have everything we need. We usually will eat outside on the patio area less crowded feeling and I like to watch the fish XD there was a lady with a dog out on the patio once so I think Dogs are welcome on the patio area. Came here on a random weeknight, and despite being just off the highway, the place was packed! We went ahead and sat at the bar, and got a couple Sopporos which they had on tap. We've been to the express version of the restaurant, but they have a nice size restaurant with a funky patio area, and very kind servers. We tried the Vietnamese crepe, and although I can't tell you how to eat it, I still recommend that you do! It was delicious and came with a whole plate of garnishes if you can figure out how to add more. The crepe was loaded and we got it without seafood. It was so flavorful! For our meals we had the rare steak pho, which wasn't very rare, but still good meat. The broth is what makes a pho anyway, and that was fantastic! Also for that reason, I asked for them to go light on the noodles for me, which they did and it was perfect. My boyfriend got the charbroiled pork with rice, and that meat is just unbelievable. It's really amazing BBQ with mind-blowing flavor! At the end, although we were painfully overstuffed, we still had to try a couple bubble teas to go. Hands down the best Vietnamese place in the whole of El Paso. They have created a nice ambiance in their outdoor patio. You can sit down and chow on some of the best tasting PHO in the region while watching the koi fish swim. There Thai tea is great, and so are the Banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). I placed a to-go order and arrived 5 minutes after I was told it would be ready but was told I'd have to wait 10 more minutes. That server was friendly and polite. Then the manager came out and he gruffly reiterated that my order was not ready and I had to wait about 15 minutes. He was kind of rude and seemed frustrated. Large cubes of fried tofu perfectly seasoned with lemongrass, soy sauce, garlic, onion, ginger and it just tasted like love. This was my first time going to Pho Tre Bien and the first thing I noticed was the beautiful patio with the pond. What a great addition to a place like this. I never knew koi fish could be that big. I also saw that they had a few turtles. They also have a cherry blossom tree. =) As beautiful as the outside is, the inside is beautifully as equal. Ok, now on to the actual food and service. As my drink I ordered a Taro bubble tea. The bubble tea included a cherry and some whip cream. Initially it was good but later on it wasn't that appetizing. The tea is a frozen drink, so that must have contributed to me not liking it. For my main course I got some Pho with well done brisket. I forget how delicious Pho could be. The portion size I got was a large. The large is priced at about 9 or 10 bucks. I don't know if that is a price for it but it was really satisfying. The brisket was tasty and the broth made me feel relaxed and warm. The service isn't bad at all. I was seated pretty quickly and had the choice to sit inside or outside. The waiter on the other hand kind took a while to order our drinks and bring them. Once again idk if they were very busy. The service of the waiter was ok, something seemed lacking but that is ok. In conclusion, the food is delicious and is probably the best Pho in El Paso. The decorating and the ambience is beautiful and authentic. The service on the other was ok but pretty slow, but that's fine because it seems this place is not a get in and get out type of place. Our experience was really bad, we called ahead to make a reservation and the lady told us that they didn't have reservations, it was first come first serve. However, we get there and the asian hostess lady told us that there is a 2 hour waiting list because they had a RESERVATION for a 10 top.
