Coming from Orange County you might ask, "Why would you even come here?" I had steak and potatoes 7 meals in a row so I needed something brothy, relax. Very nice place, I was seated outside next to the fish pond and was treated to a complimentary order of spring rolls. It was filled with shreadded lettuce, noodles were a big glob of i don't know and shrimp were old. I ordered pho dac biet and some "dinner rolls" (cha gio). And to my suprise it was pretty good, not pho kimmy, but pretty damn good. It was a lot better than my El Paso Sushi experience. Absolutely adored this place. You first walk in and there's a little outdoor patio with a pond and giant koi fish. We walked into the restaurant and the first thing I noticed was the stunning artwork. We were seated right away and put in our orders. I got a jasmine tea and water and my friend got a pineapple boba (he wanted blueberry but they were out of a lot of flavors and there was no boba in the drink but still tasted really good). It took a while for the drinks to come out and almost immediately after that the food came out. Right off the bat it smelled amazing. I got the steak and brisket pho and my friend got the charbroiled beef. They both were super amazing. Phenomenal flavors and great presentations. One thing that I wasn't very pleased about was the fact that the pho didn't come with a soup spoon or chopsticks so I was forced to use a regular spoon until the waitress came back, which was about halfway through the meal. I ordered the seafood pho. I asked for it spicy and it was great! I love shrimp, and the bowl only had two shrimps :( WAH! Service tends to be slow regardless of amount of people there. The water garden at the entrance has the potential to be something nice, but it seems half-done. If this place did a remodeling job it would look great. The peanut sauce isn't very good. I've had it twice and it's really watery. I've had shrimp rolls in S.F. And the peanut sauce has always been thicker. I'll be back for spicey seafood again...please give me More shrimp!!! My girlfriend had been trying for years to take me to this place. I didn't even know it is existed much less what pho was. Vietnamese cuisine sounded a little scary at first. Once inside the atmosphere in there is unique. They have a large koi pond with a waterfall and rivers where the fish swim through. Its on the green house looking side of the restaurant. The other side is the indoor restaurant which is nicely decorated and has a relaxing feel to it. Everyone had told me to try the pho and i went with the chicken. It was an explosion of deliciousness. The noodles and the broth are so good. Best of all you get a side of add ins like cilantro, bean sprouts, and the spiciest slices of jalapeño i've ever had. You've been warned! If you order the steak pho, make sure to ask for the steak raw and on the side. That's the traditional way to eat the steak pho. The steak is so thin you can dip it into the broth and wait till it cooks to the way you like it. That is very neat and a very cultural experience. I recently heard pho is the best hangover cure in the world. I've yet to try it but i'll let you guys know. The only thing i've experienced consistently is the poor service. Not that the servers aren't nice but to get refills takes a while. Sometimes they forget after telling them 3 times. And that's just for water. Long overdue review of this place... Recently moved to El Paso from the San Francisco Bay Area. That being said, I have pretty high standards for Vietnamese food haha. This place is doing it right though. If you're unsure of what to try, you can't go wrong with their Rare Steak pho or Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup). Both are excellent choices. PROS: - The food here has been consistently great, always fresh with plenty of flavor. - A good selection of items on the menu. - Friendly service. - Warm, inviting interior. Also has an outside seating area with space heaters and a nice koi pond. - Plenty of parking in the back. CONS: - Not really a bad thing I guess, but this place has been crowded every time I went (A sign of good food? Definitely). Obviously service slows down a bit with a packed house, but it's understandable, and worth the wait. - Probably something out of their control, but the parking lot in the back gets flooded when it rains. OVERALL: I've been eating pho all my life and from countless places, and I for sure give this place my stamp of approval haha. A solid place for Vietnamese food. I was disappointed after having heard so many great things about this restaurant. The service was horrible and the food was average. The portions were also average and the prices were a little higher than average. It took us about 15 minutes to get our tea drinks ordered and about 30 minutes to have our order taken. The service was just unacceptable. I ordered a noodle dish with teriyaki beef and shrimp, which was good. I also ordered taro bubble tea and was surprised to find it was actually great! (I believe this is the only place in El Paso that actually serves bubble tea.) I'd go there again if it was a friend's choice and/or for the taro bubble tea. read more

No Papayas!? Was looking for something quick and light for dinner. Pho Tre Bien was nearby so I stopped in not really wanting Pho, knowing Viet food is usually fresh. I opted for a Pork Sandwich (Banh Mi) and Papaya Salad with Beef Jerky, really expecting to savor the chewy spicy jerky. Alas, it was not to be as they were out of Papayas! So I got the Meat Wrapped in Viet Leaves. Dunno what it was called but it was fresh, tasty, and delicious! It was very generous too. The Banh Mi was fresh and Tasty! So delicious!!! El Paso has no Vegetarian restaurants, but Pho Tre Bien has a fantastic long vegetarian menu, yay! I had the Tofu Lemongrass and it was incredible. The portion size was large and I took it home for dinner as well. I was disappointed in the prices, as it was lunch time. I would like to see this restaurant offer a lunch menu. Every entree was at least $10, which with a drink and tip is not cheap. If there were lunch specials I would come here at least once a week, but with the prices I can only come twice a month. I sat outside in a beautiful garden patio, and my server was very quick and I had my food in ten minutes. However, the parking lot is a nightmare!!! If you drive a big Lincoln or a truck WATCH OUT. Haha it took me longer to squeeze my way out of that parking lot in the back than it took to get my food. The meat in the rolls was scarce and did not give the rolls any flavor. So you really just had spring veggie rolls with a tiny string of pork. When I lived in Las Cruces, I'd make the trip to El Paso just to eat some bun at Pho Tre Bien with my bun buddies, Ray and Bobby. That was when Pho Tre Bien was at it's old location on Viscount, of course. Bobby was new to Vietnamese food. Our first time there, the server of course brought a plate of garnishments to the table (typical basil, cilantro, mung bean sprouts, lime) and Bobby the novice, thinking it was salad or something, took a handful of basil and shoved it in his mouth! I'd never seen such a thing, nor have I seen anything like it since! I've been to the new location on Gateway East once while visiting and we ordered a number of dishes to share family-style. Perhaps it's that I've tasted better Vietnamese food since moving to San Diego, or perhaps it's that the effort spent on food preparation at Pho Tre Bien is less now, but it just wasn't the same as in the days of yore. The new location is... um, rainforest-like. The service was poor, but was with a smile. (Maybe the restaurant is too big and spread out to stay on top of so many tables...?) The owner came and spoke to us a bit and apologized. Eh. Since Vietnamese food choices in El Paso/Las Cruces/Juarez are limited, and because I'm deeply nostaglic for my trips to Pho Tre Bien on Viscount, I'll stick with 4 stars. As well, I have to give Pho Tre Bien propers for the best vegetarian bun ever. I came here when I first got to El Paso trying to get my pho fix. I saw all of these wonderful reviews about how great it is, so I decided what the heck I'll try it out. After I arrived and was seated I read over the menu, $7.50 for two spring rolls? I couldn't believe my eyes. After decided what I wanted to eat, I sat for at least 10-15 minutes waiting on a waitress/waiter. They have absolutely horrific service. Each server kept passing by multiple times looking directly at me seeing that I have not been waited on, yet didn't skip a step to help me out. It's like none of them wanted to be at work. Tables needed to be bussed and other people needed to be waited on. Now the pho, honestly it isn't very good. It's mediocre at best. Luckily I was able to save it with sriracha and hosin sauce. For the sides, they don't give you any Thai basil (which is really weird). I don't see how this place has such great reviews from everyone. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at all. read more

Once we was seated and gave our drink order another 20 minutes pass by and no drinks. Finally ordered I got the spicy beef bowl which was like 17$ for a small bowl. Make sure you wrap them in the lettuce and dip them in that fishy sauce...mmm....so good. The Pho is great. But what I really reccommend is anything in a clay pot whether its tofu, chicken or fish it always comes out with just the right spiciness and full of hearty flavor. Pour it on a giant bowl of friend rice and enjoy. The staff is always polite and I have never had to wait for a table. But there should be a wait. The food is spectacular. I did not expect to find a Vietnamese restaurant in El Paso. I was impressed that there was one. The food here did not disappoint. What I ate: First day 1. Cha gio - it came with a side of nouc cham, lettuce, and mint. 2. Bun la lot 3. Pho tai gau with meatballs I loved the appetizers because of the fresh herbs and veggies. The pho had a nice clear broth and I enjoyed the bean sprouts, Thai basil, and jalapenos garnishes. No hoisen sauce or sriracha in my pho! Our server didn't speak English but I had no problems communicating our order. Second day 1. Bun xeo 2. Bun bo hue The food was full of flavors and delicious. I thought our server each time was friendly and attentive. I didn't have a problem with the portions, in fact it was a lot of food for me. The only reason I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars is because of the price. It has a nice atmosphere, good selection of Vietnamese dishes including desserts, however I would not spend $8.95 for their portion of breaded calamari legs. I felt that the calamari and the other appetizers are way over priced. If an appetizer cost more than a main dish, it should come with a side of rice or noodles and be a main dish! If prices were a bit lower, I would definitely give them a solid 4 stars! read more

In terms of my first Vietnamese cuisine experience, Pho Tre Bien was good. I don't have anything to which to compare the restaurant, so I don't really have any comments about the prices. I suppose they're somewhat pricey, but the cost seems to be in line with most medium- to high-end restaurants. I did love the atmosphere - once you get away from the exterior which isn't all that grand. The restaurant is surrounded by either dilapidated stores or rundown ones. Finding the entrance to the restaurant isn't exactly easy, either. If those items are overlooked, and one proceeds to enter the courtyard area, one is pleasantly surprised by a small waterfall and a river filled with koi. The interior of the restaurant is nice, too - well-lit and a maneuverable layout of tables and chairs. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. I enjoyed my meal, although the portions are very large. I ordered the vegetarian eggrolls and vermicelli and was unable to finish either one. The dipping sauce was good, but, for me, it was unnecessary. I enjoyed the eggrolls au natural. The vermicelli was good, too, but it could've been warmer. I also probably would have enjoyed spicier ingredients to incorporate with the noodles. read more

Phos has a really nice atmosphere. There is outdoor seating which is situated in a garden setting. We had a large party of 10 for a business lunch and had to sit inside - which is a comfortable environment as well. The service was good, with only 1 diner having to wait a few extra minutes on a dish. That's not bad for a large group. The food was delicious. There were many vegetarian choices alongside the traditional Vietnamese fare. As Asian cuisine goes, the menu items are a little pricey as compared to Chinese restaurants. It's worth it. I'm a transplant from Seattle where I'd go for pho at least once a week; I hold no shame in admitting I have quite an addiction for the stuff. Moving to El Paso, pho was my biggest 'first-world' concern (after securing that in fact yes, they do have St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores here)...I was determined to find a place to sate my constant cravings. Food: My friends sampled the spring rolls and the bubble tea, both of which reported as delicious. I went for my usual (chicken pho) and it was very satisfying, plenty of meat. My friends had the beef and seafood pho, both reported as great, minus the lack of seafood, which is understandable, seafood is expensive and the pho was not. Prices were typical, I went with a small and was quite full at the end of it. I had to borrow another table's sriracha sauce but otherwise all of the usual sauces and fixin's were available. Atmosphere/Service: The coy pond and 'greenhouse' outside were nice additions, it would be nice to try out in the warmer times. Inside it's like any other pho place seating/table-wise...there is a space for potential entertainment and a bar and especially judging by the constant Beatles-a-thon playing on the radio the entire time we were there, I am very intrigued. Speaking of time, granted we went on a Saturday afternoon, but this restaurant is busy. I assumed this was 'the' spot since nearly all of the tables were taken in the rather large dining area...but there was only two waiters serving and cashiering! It took us 20 minutes to get seated even though there were tables open...and at least an hour to get our food (we were in there in total nearly 2 hours and we are not slow eaters- at the pace it took them to serve us we were absolutely famished by that point!). I'm typically not one to pay attention to service, if the food is good I'll go back...which it is...but this tested all of our party's limits. To get refills you practically had to stand up in front of the waiter to get noticed. If it wasn't for the service I'd give this place at least 4 stars. I'm going to try to rest of the pho places before considering going back because as much as I love pho I don't have that kind of time to wait around for a meal. read more

Im giving this place a 3 for just being in el paso. if i was to compare it CALI it would be a one star. The price is out rage s but i guess its because it isnt much out here. For a Large it was 8.95. Was it great? maybe not for me.Their LARGE is pretty small. we also had their rice plate with pork chop, pork skin and a fried egg. The pork chop was super thick. i think they could of made it thinner and give you two slice so when they marinated it have more taste. The pork skin was overly salty. I also not a big fan of broken rice. I had ask for reg steam rice but they dont sever that there. The bi MI ( vietnamese sandwich) it was juicy . Not too bad. their eggroll was alrite.
