After reading different reviews and based on our location, we decided on Pho Kim Long. Little place right on the corner. When we walked in, place was busy... Noon on a Saturday but we were seated right away. The wait staff was super friendly. We ordered an order of Crab Ragoons and each of us ordered a bowl of Pho. The Crab Ragoons were very good sin size and portion of cream cheese to wrapper. Freshly fried.. Crispy on the outside and soft warm in the inside. I got the combination Pho with Brisket, Rare Steak and Meatballs. Good portion of each type of meat. Broth was hot and so very comforting. Great sense of complex of spices in the broth. Nice portion of the traditional garnishes that comes with Pho. All of us were able to equally share them. Prices very reasonable and all of us left with our tummies full. Not from the San Antonio area but if I was, I'll be making this a regularPhod spot!

However, my most recent encounter has soured me completely, and I think I will never return. My favorite dish here was something that did not appear on the menu, Bo Tai Chanh salad. Even though it was not listed, they would whip it up at my request. It consists of beef cappaccio on an iceberg lettuce salad with Vietnamese vegetables and a fish sauce based dressing. Tonight they refused my order. What makes this refusal all the more frustrating is that Pho Bo Tai Chanh (the soup version) is listed on the menu and promoted as one of the favorite dishes. All that was needed, to meet my request, was to cut up half a head of lettuce and throw the non-liquid ingredients of the soup on top. Every restaurant should remember the customer is always right. Their only purpose is to meet their customers' requests to the best of their ability. I understand when a kitchen cannot meet requests with the ingredients or equipment they have. For example, I always call 24 hours ahead to order Peking Duck because the traditional methods require that amount of time to prepare the dish. Or I remember being refused a request to have my meat served rare when the restaurant had already cooked all its meat to medium rare using sous vide. I don't expect the kitchen to do the impossible. But every kitchen must be ready to meet special request whether health related like peanuts, shrimp, gluten, salt, carbohydrates, etc. or relate to tastes or ethics like vegetarian, vegans, seafood, etc. To fail one's customers is the first step to being one of the numerous restaurants to fail and become irrelevant. Any restaurant that refuses to meet reasonable requests fails the fundamental test for good service and does not deserve to be patronized. P.S. I end up going down the road to Yaya's Thai Restaurant (another local restaurant) to get something that met my tastes and preferences.

I love this restaurant a lot, I used to talk to the Grandpa way back in the day. He let me put some of my art up in his space next door long time ago. Today I went again and had some really good Grilled Chicken Lemongrass Vermicelli, I also had some Thai Tea which is so good and I wanted the Boba with it. They have so many kinds of foods of all kinds of tastiness, they are expert at Pho. I go here every season, crunch time is in the winter with Pho's but they are amazing year round with so much variety in the menu. I highly recommend them because they are the best. This Family business is beautiful, they take the time to care for customers, I am always greeted with smiles and courtesy. It has been over two decades of me loving this place. Take your friends! The appetizers on the menu were ok, but we decided to stick to our entree choices. The food came out quickly and everything was delicious. The pho was flavorful and satisfying, especially for the price. One small downside, our kids' meals didn't come with basil or bean sprouts, which would have made them even better, but the taste of the Pho was delicious. The chicken bánh mì, though, was the star of the visit for me. It was incredibly flavorful and I took off the jalapeños due to my allergies and I don't like carrots, I honestly could have eaten three of them as the family helped destroy this one with succulent chicken and cucumber slices. The restaurant itself was clean, spacious, and conveniently located right off 1604, making it easy to get to. Overall, a really solid spot, and we'll definitely be back as the service was great!

Although delicious pho and rolls are absolutely perfect during the rainy and wet season, they are great meal options during any time of the year ;) ! We also received great warm tapioca dessert at the conclusion of dinner :) ! The employees were very friendly and courteous and super prompt with our orders :) ! Perhaps it helped that we didn't come in at the peak times on a Saturday and could be served right away. It's very casual and absolutely perfect for both small and large groups of friends or family members :) ! But they also have smaller tables for solo eaters who might just want to enjoy a great meal on their own time, or for twosomes who don't need a large space :) ! We would certainly come back :D ! Our visit was about an hour to an hour & a half before closing time. Service: It seemed like there were only two people operating at the time of our visit. One person was taking orders, working the register and bussing the tables. Then, another person came out from the kitchen to help clean out right before closing. I believe that it is for this reason some of our orders came out incomplete including a Spring Roll to-go order without the peanut sauce. This place should have two working the entire floor at all times to provide sufficient service. Food: I go to Pho restaurants often and the servings at Berni--well, you get less than what you pay for. The broth of my soup noticeably topped off a lot lower than usual. The amount of meat and noodles was not near generous either. You can also see the contents of the Spring Roll after a bite (photo). The taste is typical Vietnamese as it should. No complaints on that. Cleanliness: I noticed the outer side of one bowl was still dirty (photo). Dear Berni, Your food is not bad but I think there are changes that need to be made. Honestly, I don't think I'll be coming back but improve for the sake of future customers. You have upside potential.

We also had some grilled pork summer rolls. They were nice and tight and had a really good flavor. The server was very friendly. The only negative, which we can look past, is that the floor on the one side of the building is not in good shape. Some of the tiles are coming loose where the foundation seems to be sinking a bit.
