The food here was a little bit of a mixed bag. I ordered a thai tea, bun rieu, pho, and bun tit nong chia gio. I started with the nun tit noung since it had an egg roll and I wanted it to stay crispy. The egg roll and bun tit nong was really solid, I enjoyed it a lot. But then I tasted the bun rieu... that was not very good. It was salty, and the meat ball was kind of this solid piece that looked like it was chopped from a sausage like block and was just not appetizing. After I put it together it was edible, but not great. Then I had the pho, the pho was ok. It was ok, not the best but I'd order it again if I was in the area. The thai tea was ok, not the best but not horrible either. I think Ive learned over the years that finding a good bun rieu is harder than a good pho. I should have known better, but now I know. I did an order from DoorDash, and the food came quickly. Overall, it was just OK. I started out with the ban xeo crepe..... The fillings were very good, I loved the shrimp, their shrimp were tender. It also came with lots of veggies, as well as lettuce and mint to fill it up with. It also had the nuoc Cham, which I absolutely love The crêpe itself was only so so. It was crisp to the point of being hard, and it was pretty oily. I picked it up and I could just see the oil on my fingers afterwards. It took away from the meal. Plus, for the price of what I paid for only one crêpe, I've gotten two better crêpes at other places. I also ordered the scallops with mushrooms. It was a decent sized portion. My partner and I get a craving for Pho on cold days and rainy nights. Our favorite location is a little far away so we wanted to find something that's just a little closer. I remember coming to this one about a year ago, so we decided to give it another go. When we showed up, it was pretty packed, but they still have plenty of seating to get us in. We ordered the pork eggrolls for our appetizer. For my entrée, I went with a large steak pho noodle bowl. The food came out fast and both dishes were really good. I like to dress my broth up with lime juice, Sriracha, and hoisin sauce. My large bowl was pretty big and left me full. Believe it or not they have an extra large bowl too! We checked out Pho Viet 2 for dinner last night for the first time. They are located on West El Camino Ave in Northgate. The inside was huge with plenty of seating inside - it was clean and spacious as well. We did a to-go order of Rare Flank, Beef Balls and Fried Tofu Pho, Grilled Chicken Over Vermicelli Noodles, House Chow Fun and Potstickers. Everything was really good, especially the Pho! It really hit the spot and the broth was savory and flavorful. I got a small size and it was still massive and they loaded me up with tons of toppings! This spot is an absolute hidden gem and honestly one of the best Vietnamese places in the area, hands down. I know I only have 2 photos but we are here a lot and tried their red bean and green jelly too. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but the flavor? Massive. The veggies are always fresh, the portions are generous, and the broth... the broth is soul-warming magic. Like a cozy hug in a bowl. I'm dramatic because it's deserved. And can we talk about the service? The ladies here are incredible. So sweet, so fast, and always on point. They treat you like a regular even if it's your first time. I'll admit I was hesitant to give Pho Viet 2 a try after a less than great experience at their CH location, but I'm so glad I did. Their banh xeo (crispy pork & shrimp crêpes) completely redeemed it! The flavors and texture were spot-on. A little oily but as expected. My mom absolutely loved their cha gio (fried egg rolls) so much that she insisted I order more the following week. I also tried the combination grilled meat plate with rice, which came with chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp prepared in different styles. The portion was generous and everything was delicious. Pho Viet 2 is next to the Princesa Boutique and the Massage place, a few doors down from Saigon Corner on the Shell gas station corner of Truxel and El Camino. Their other location is in Citrus Heights (Pho Viet). The cold weather compelled me to seek out Pho Viet 2's Extra Large (XL)-sized bowl of pho, which I've never personally attempted before. This time, I felt so ready for the challenge--paper to-go menus provided to order from. I got the R1 Pho Dac Biet (Combination Pho with rare steak, well-done flank, fat brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef meatball) in that XL size with the default rice noodles and beef broth. FYI, a Small is around $13, Large $15, and X-Large $18. The lady taking my order didn't question me or warn me when I asked for the X-Large, but the other lady who brought it to the table assumed it was for the other diner in my party, LOL. The XL bowl is as tall as the pot of hot tea I also ordered! The usual fixings: fresh basil, beansprouts, jalapeno slices, raw onion, green onion, lime wedges, and if you want any sauces like fish sauce, hoisin, or sriracha. Plastic chopsticks and a soup spoon are provided, ask if you need a fork. I came in on a mostly empty stomach and that X-Large bowl was super satisfying and filling. Delicious! They also have appetizers like spring rolls, fried eggrolls, chicken wings, etc. If you're not into Vietnamese soup they also carry Chinese soup like wonton, hot and sour, egg flower, and chicken broth with either rice or egg noodles. There are three banh mi sandwiches to choose from, bun (rice vermicelli) grilled meat plates, com rice plates, self-wrap rolls, clay pot, fried rice, chow fun, chow mein, chicken, duck, seafood, veggie, kid's (nuggets, tenders, wings with fries and either chow mein or fried rice), and drinks like smoothies, coconut, pandan, coffee, tea, and soda. Staff remembered me as a regular from when I lived in Natomas, and I always feel welcomed here. My partner and I ordered a small, R2 and large, R5. The broth had amazing, depth of flavor. My family and I stopped by pho viet 2 in Sacramento during a road trip down from the Pacific Northwest. The area had a bunch of Vietnamese restaurants and shops, so it felt like a solid place to grab our first lunch of the day. We went inside and got seated pretty quickly. The menu offered small and large bowls, but we went with the regular size -- which ended up being much larger than expected. It did take a while for someone to come over and take our order. One thing that threw us off a bit: we're from SoCal and usually speak Vietnamese when ordering at Vietnamese restaurants. My parents tried to order in Vietnamese, but the server told them she doesn't speak it, even though she looked Vietnamese. Not a big deal, just unexpected. Once the food came out, the pho was decent. It didn't taste heavy on MSG, but it was a bit lacking in flavor -- definitely noticeable compared to the typical SoCal pho we're used to. Still, it hit the spot after hours on the road. I also ordered a Vietnamese coffee to go. It was on the sweeter side, stronger than I prefer, but still okay. Overall, the place wasn't bad. It did its job, portions were big, and service was fine. Having a pho place down the street from where I live is SO convenient! This is definitely my go-to pho place when I don't want to drive farther. Whenever I'm ordering pho, I always look for the option with rare beef and tripe. I ordered a small and it was more than enough! They gave more noodles than I feel like a normal small size has, which I enjoyed. The pho was so refreshing, especially since it was raining outside. I don't normally go out of my way to leave bad reviews. But this place was SO AWFUL that I had no choice but to redownload yelp and make sure I left a review. I've been a pho connoisseur for a few years now and I know a good pho when I have one. This pho was absolutely DISGUSTING!!!! My stomach hurts even typing this I feel like I'll have to go to the emergency room. The broth was like water when I pulled it out of my Togo bag. Practically clear and see through. When I tasted it, it was completely flavorless like I expected. Not even adding hoisin or siracha or lime could fix it. Not to mention they didn't even bother adding any chili oil to my bag. The pieces of steak were frozen when I got them so they didn't cook in my broth well at all. When I went to take a bite of the meat, it was too chewy to even chew and swallow. I ended up spitting the piece out. It turned into complete mush from having been previously frozen to thrown into boiling hot broth. And then the pork eggrolls were cold and disgusting.
