This used to be my to-go place for pho before I discovered the other one. This one isn't bad, it's just the other pho place is closer to my friend's house and more convenient for us. I came here the other night because I had to wait for my dad to get off work to hitch a ride home. This place was closer to his work place and I was hungry. When I walked in, I couldn't help but wanted to walk back out because it smelt so bad. It smelt like bathroom/sewer water. I didn't because it was already 9PM and I was hungry. It never smelt like this the other times I came here, I had no idea what was up that night. My friend and I ordered quickly and just wanted to get out there ASAP. HOWEVER, their tea smelt super good and their pho was good as well. The smell of the tea reminded me of Vietnamese coffee or Thai ice tea. You already know, I was smelling the tea until my food came because I couldn't stand the smell of the restaurant. Their pho was very flavorful and they gave a good portion. Their dishes are definitely slightly bigger than the other pho restaurant in this area, but costs a little more too. So you get what you pay for. Overall, everything was pretty good.. except the aroma of the restaurant (-1 star). Hopefully the next time I come back .. it doesn't smell like that anymore. read more

I guess there is something I am missing here that most people experienced. My boyfriend and I went here once during lunch time on a weekday and we were rather disappointed with out experience. Here is why: 1) The menu is difficult to decipher if you're not of Vietnamese origin. The staff don't speak English well so they're not helpful in the deciphering process either. 2) I played it safe and ordered a Vietnamese Sandwich-one of the things I knew for sure what it was- and it sucked. It seemed to consist of Italian bread, a rough piece of chicken, and really cheap sauce. 3) After our less than satisfactory meal, there was actually a mistake in our bill. It likely occurred due to a language, but my boyfriend was charged more for his meal than stated in the menu. Of course, when we tried to argue the discrepancy, we were not understood. I have not been back since and don't anticipate on visiting any time soon. read more

Really great pho! My friend and I got 2 #11's and spring rolls large, plus a taro bubble milk tea. Everything was super fresh and delicious! We went in about an hour after the place opened up on a Saturday early afternoon (12 p.m). The restaurant was already packed but they had some cozy seating for 2 people a little isolated from the large round tables all over the place. It was a nice dining experience: great fresh food, decent prices, friendly staff, quick service. Overall 5/5. read more

I love this place. I love the twins who serve there. I love the mixed array of clientele. I love the fantastic pricing. But most of all, I love the food. I feign for it. The fried calamari and the sweet tomato-ee sauce it comes with. The Vietnamese spring rolls. The mussels in green curry sauce. The beef cubes, or beef or pork everything's. The pho is a little blandish but just condiment that thing up. It always hits the spot. Always. It actually hits many spots simultaneously. The quality of the food isn't superb. Yes there is better viet out there but the entire experience, cost and deliciousness of this place has yet to be beat. My girlfriend and I ordered Pho #1 (all beef combination), Pho #18 (seafood) and a Vietnamese sandwich. The broth was tastier than most pho I have had. The pricing was even better, $6.50 for Pho; usually I will pay $8 - $11 anywhere else. The restaurant is kind of a hole in the wall type of place. The big downside was the service. They did not greet us when we came in and they took a while to serve us after being seated. That really should not matter but I like to think that a restaurant should value their customers. This place smells like it's in the middle of Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh but their food is equally delicious if not more. I had already eaten lunch that day but swung by here w/ my bf for a late afternoon snack. We got the large order of fried Vietnamese spring rolls and an order of bbq chicken w/ rice noodles and got two tall glasses of their amazing iced coffee. The coffees transported me back to the tiny cart I frequented in Ho Chi Minh that's run by a tiny old lady who prepared my coffee in advance at a specific time because she knew I would be up and she readied one more big cup for the road. It was freakin' delicious. (I miss you, Ba!). We devoured the spring rolls even while they were piping hot and burned our tongues in the process- they were that good. Been on the hunt to find the best Pho and Bun Bo Hue in Brooklyn and Pho Vietnam is definitely one on my top list. At Pho Vietnam, the noodle soup portions are HUGE! My boyfriend had the Pho and I had the Bun Bo Hue. The pho was definitely one of the best in Brooklyn. The broth definitely stands out with its bold flavor and could hardly tell if they use MSG or not. The Bun Bo Hue was not super oily like I've come across at other Viet restaurants. We had an order of spring rolls, even the spring rolls were larger than usual. It was deep fried perfectly with crispy skin. My favorite Vietnamese spot in Brooklyn.. OK, its my only vietnamese spot in Brooklyn. I always get the same thing, the beef cubes over rice and the shrimp rolls with the peanut sauce. The peanut sauce is unbelivable, save some and pour it over the rice for a bangus combination. The place is not too clean, but the waiters are hilarious. I remember a lady behind me got a humongous fish, and she was like IS THIS ALL FOR ME? And the waiter was like yea, and its cheap too... what do you think this is Manhattan? Disclaimer: I've never actually ordered pho at Pho Vietnam. Because A) They have a dish on the menu I've been looking for without success for since I left San Francisco fifteen years ago and B) Said dish is PERFECTLY EXECUTED and C) They have a vermicelli dish that knocks my freaking socks off. Plus? The waitresses are adorable, sassy, identical twin old ladies. SASSY OLD TWINS, people! Also, cute inside, with fairy lights and bonus of Asian TV that you & your companion will not be able to refrain from watching. The dishes in question: "Chicken casserole with lemongrass flavor." This is actually a highly aromatic curry dish crammed with chicken, vegetables, and a little cushion of vermicelli noodles at the bottom. It's warming, fragrant, wholesome, satisfying, heathy and decadent all that the same time. Enough for two to share. Get rice! The cold vermicelli dish that blows my mind is "Three Region Flavor Beef over Vermicelli." One "region" is marinated in something indescribably tasty and barbequed; one is a kind of spicy sausage rolled around a slice of carmelized onion, and one looks like it's wrapped in a leaf that was set on fire. Doubtless someone Vietnamese could explain what it is to me, but I like mystery. You get two of each flavor and it's almost too much to finish. The spring rolls over vermicelli are good too, though I'm sure we could all argue about spring rolls til the cows come home. They're pretty heavy and not exactly a health food, but delicious. Went here and ordered curry chicken pho. This soup had no redeeming qualities. The broth was ambiguous, with no clear or good tasting flavor. The chicken in the soup was still covered in skin and on bones, which made is really hard to eat with a spoon. I had to take it out of the soup and attack it with my fork and hands, which was very messy and not worth the effort. we also got shrimp summer rolls, which very blah. What's better than a giant bowl of pho, other than some Dominican sancocho; on a cold winter day?! Not much that's what! This is a very homey restaurant with some tasty pho. The broth is very good, loved the noodles, and the tripe tasted really fresh. I'm very picky when it comes to eating tripe but I had no issue with the tripe in the pho. There was a good portion of meat considering this huge bowl was only $6.95. A great bargain for the quality of the meal. My friend and I both had the number 1 (can't remember for the life of me what the name of the pho dish is since my friend ordered it for me in canto) it consisted of tripe, and two different cuts of beef. We also ordered the small order of spring rolls (4 rolls) and beef cubes. The spring rolls are delicious, nice and crispy with a great filling. There served with lettuce and mint leaves which I was told you should eat by wrapping a spring roll with a mint leaf and lettuce cup then dip into the sweat dip: YUM! It was so good when eaten this way. The beef cubes also came with a small bowl of rice which I completely ignored so I can't judge the white rice but the beef cubes were great. I've had better but for the price the quality was very good. To drink I had a taro bubble tea and my friend the lychee drink. The lychee drink was definitely the way to go. It wasn't overly sweat and had a sting tea flavor which I really like, where as my taro also had a nice flavor but barely had any boba and way too much ice for my liking. I enjoyed the pot of tea the tables were given more than my drink. So why only 3 stars? Well service was pretty much non existent and it was cold. I would say this is a medium-large spaced restaurant, not to many customers when we walked in for our late lunch so we were able to choose where we wanted to sit. As soon as we sat down we were given our menus and pot of tea. About 10 minutes passed and still no one came to take our order or see if we at least wanted to order some drinks before hand. My friend ended up getting the attention of one of the two waitresses (the other being her identical twin, very confusing at first) and ordered in canto since there seemed to be a bit of a language barrier. I wouldn't worry about this though, every item is numbered. Then we got our food and drinks.... And that was it. No checking in to see if everything is okay, if we wanted to order anymore, nada. I didn't mind too much since my friend and I were deep into our convo but on another night this would have definitely upset me. We literally got our check an hour after having finished our meal. Do if your in a rush this isn't the place to stop by for a quick meal. I did notice that they had A LOT of people coming in for pickups, maybe this is the reason why? Pho in Brooklyn will always have a spot in my heart. Prices here are similar to other places in the borough: $7 for a #1. I rarely get anything else (maybe beef cubes over rice, but I have yet to try it here). The soup base is a little saltier than I would've liked. Spring rolls are extra crispy and the lettuce was not all too fresh. Service could be slightly friendlier, but at least they're super quick with pumping out the food. I'll probably still be visiting this establishment every so often because of price, convenience, my occasional pho cravings, and the fact that one of my good friends lives nearby. read more

We went here for a meal today. I ordered the #60 which was a big bowl of noodles topped with 3 types of beef. I liked 2 of the 3 types with the remaining type being some sort of sausage. We also had a dish involving noodles immersed in satay sauce. It didn't look very appetizing as it was a lumpy bowl of brown goop but it tasted fine. There was a smell that I couldn't figure out what it was. We got seated pretty quickly. I ordered the usual noodle soup, calamari, and a coffee. The soup was just as good as the other place, but this place gave a lot more noodles. I was so stuffed when I was done. The meat was a bit less but it felt right with the noodle portion overall. We have this friend who love this place, and he drags us here from time to time. They have pleanty of healthy options. Please be advised that there are some communication issue and description issue within the manu itself. For instance, we ordered a grilled dish that describes a grill and says the dish is grilled at the table. It turned out that the grill is on street in Vietnam. I'm not trying to be funny, but that's what we were told by the waiter. We were really confused, and we asked again. He told us if we were in Vietnam, then we would have been sitting in a restaurant in the street and making this dish by our table. However, since we are in the U.S. the chef makes it for us in the kitchen. Makes sense? Considering the description describes and exciting expriance of cooking shrimp and beef at our able, it doesn't make any sence to describe it this way. Anyhow, the service is not too pleasant. The highlight of your dinner is when a guy from the kitchen drags a huge and dirty trash can through the dining room bumping your chair and missing touching the calamari by someone's table by a quarter of an inch. I've always gone to the nearby Pho Haoi which is very similar, so I focus on their comparison: * this place has a much more diverse menu; it's not just longer but covers more categories of dishes & more combinations of familiar dishes/staples * equally great food, just delicious, flavorful, obviously fresh, the basil & sprouts are key for showing off freshness * dishes come out very quickly and tastiness & freshness are heavily dependent on this trait * smaller interior but more decoration, lights, style; ultimately not that important, come for the food not the scenery * equally good service, not surly at all, just right balance of attentiveness & overlording We had the #17 (sprout salad over cold noodles with grilled pork chop) & #55 (pho noodles with grilled pork chop) and that pork is so so so good. Love it. There's a tv in the front centre often tuned to an international sports channel. Lots of foreigners eating here are no sign that is cooking is not authentic enough. Recommend. read more

I came here today with my dad. This is not my first time here and it will definitely not be my last. I got my usual Seafood soup noodle and for the drink, I tried the Rainbow Ice drink. My pop's got the three meat meal. The wait time for out food was longer than expected especially since the restaurant was a bit empty. We weren't sure why it took the time it did but it did take over 30 min. My dad had to hustle the waiter to get our food out. Wonder what' up? hmmm.... My father's dish came out 3 minutes before mine. He commented on the how they displayed the three different meats. There was beef, pork and chicken and each looked like sausages. My dad said that maybe since this dish is not popular and not a regular Vietnamese dish, it is not as delicious as he hoped for it to be. He said the pork was unbelievably "bad tasting." The seafood noodle was pretty rich in flavor and seafood. It's pretty filling too and the soup base is one of the best. I had the rainbow ice last for dessert. The rainbow ice was extremely tasty. I have to say that dessert was rich enough to be a meal in itself. I shouldn't have ordered the noodle now. ^^;; It was a pleasant experience. I just only wished the wait time was less. read more
