Came here for a lunch date. We got seated right away, drinks where served really quick. And took our order and our food was made really fast, hence the name Pho Xpress. Everything very fast pace. We order BBQ pork fried rice ($9) It was delicious, there was a lot of thin slices of BBQ pork. Can't go wrong with this. Also we order the crispy noodles with shrimp ($9). It came with bak choy, squash, broccoli, carrots and shrimp. The gravy was thick and flavorful. I wish they gave us a bit more gravy because it was just in the middle and I like eating the crispy part of the noodles with the gravy. I'm a little disappointed on the proportion wise. For the price we paid for I feel like we can get get way more somewhere else. Service is really quick and friendly. Would I come back here? Hmmm, it depends. I live around the area so when I saw that there was a pho restaurant near by I was so happy. But Honestly, this isn't it. I finally tried pho xpress for the first time today I ordered egg rolls, a beef sandwich, and noodles with grilled chicken and egg roll. Everything was was not what it was supposed to taste like. While eating I had forgotten I was at a pho restaurant. But was the food good? portions were very small, and it was okay because it left me with "I'm good because I didn't want more". If you like fast, friendly service, good Pho, and inexpensive, then this is the place for you. I had the BBQ Chicken & egg rolls on vermicelli noodles. It came with fresh-cut veggies and fish sauce. I must say that it was really tasty. The portion was large. It wasn't an experience to remember because, well, it is an "express" and they aren't kidding about that in the name. I met some friends that work at Kaiser and seems Kaiser employees make up most of business. So I have to say, like everyone else here, that the people who work here are really nice. I came here first for a thai tea, to kinda check the place out and well, I had a sweet craving. John, an employee there, was super friendly and made a point to chat it up about vietnamese food. He even said that when I came to eat he would give me a summary of the cuisine and what was best. The tea was decent, I mean its hard to mess up a thai tea, although it seemed a bit small for the $3.25 price. I went back the next day for the real stuff, the FOOD. The place is quite nice and clean, even if it looks like a take out asian strip mall joint. So we ordered the spring rolls as an app (which were decent, although the shrimp seemed kinda dry and taste-less), then two of us got the grilled beef w jasmine rice dish and the other got a chopped pork chop w jasmine rice dish. The portions were just right and the meat was not too greasy looking, and it was nicely grilled. I kinda have to say that the Pho place on telegraph canyon in chula vista had bigger portions for $.50 more, but o well, driving to Chula means tons of $$$ on gas. So yea, this is a nice, clean, and yummy vietnamese restaurant. I will be back to try the Pho :) read more

The Pho here is good but not the best I have had in San Diego. I would go here if I worked within walking distance but I wouldn't drive out of my way to get here. Today we sat down at Pho Xpress for lunch. We've eating here of a number of years, really like the food and staff. We walked out of the restaurant, first time ever doing it, due to the staff allowing 2 ladies with 3 parrots sitting on their shoulders to enter and sit down to eat. This to me is extremely unsanitary and I believe against health code for food establishments. If this is what they are willing to subject their customers too this maybe we need to find another place to spend our $$ at. read more

WOW!!! I live so close to this soup shop. I'm always at Vons or CVS and my dentist is next door but I only just now discovered it! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME! So, there is tons of parking, never could be an issue. The restaurant front seems very small and narrow, very difficult to miss, look for menus on the glass. Inside is clean and open and very nicely decorated. Now, for the important stuff.... the food is AMAZING Had the beef Pho. The broth is rich and delicate at the same time, not greasy, and has a fantastic kick to it. You are sent home (for take out) with the broth in one container and an assortment of veggies like bean sprouts, basil, etc. and the noodles come in another. Mixing it all together is half the fun! Bahn Mi, I tried the BBQ pork and it was perfection! The bun was super soft and chewy with a flaky crispy outside and BBQ pork filled the bottom, no skimping. The veggies were crisp and fresh and the total "shove it in your face and take a bite" is remarkable. Last but not least we ordered the shrimp spring rolls. When you're having a busy day of call, nothing is more comforting than a bowl of pho or some delicious banh mi. Pho Express does not disappoint. The staff is very friendly and engaging. Every time I go, they seem to remember my order, even when I switch it up. They have so many regular customers, and they seem to remember them so well. This really impressed me. Service is prompt and attentive. Never an empty water glass, and the meals come out very quickly. This makes it perfect for a business lunch or if you're ducking out of the hospital for a quick lunch between patients. Foodwise, there are so many good items: 1. We wanted a sit-down experience and this is more of a takeout place, but they were so accommodating and made sure we were well taken care of! Since people generally don't stay and eat here it's really quiet inside but there's plenty of seating and you can enjoy a bowl at a table if you want. This is the worst customer service I've EVER had in America. I was treated poorly through out by Danny who was the greater and also took my payment, snapped at me when the waitress moved my table as I was sat near the door and requested to move as it was windy. It was his attitude and unprofessional tone that shook me. I sat in silence whilst I finished my pho. He then made a snide remark as he opened the door to serve some customers outside which was not appropriate. I had a hostile And unpleasant visit. Not to add he turned over the game he knew I was watching which was my only distraction from the awkward vibe that lingered at my dinner table once he has expressed his feelings. I would choose a more cultured pho spot in future that doesn't have young ill mannered staff up front. I always see the best in people but I'm literally so uncomfortable I won't ask for the owner to complain in fear it will worsen my visit, terrible place. This is by far, my favorite place to get Pho,and my fill of Banh Mi (pork)sandwiches. It rivals the excellent pho shops in the Convoy/Kearny Mesa area. Their Pho is beyond decent. We''ve had their Xpress Combo, which had thin cuts of beef,brisket, fatty flank and lean flank,just enough white rice noodles , immersed in delicious beef broth. We''ve also ordered their rare steak w/meatballs soup. I put a little fish sauce in mine. . All of their pho comes with a separate plate of fresh green onions, coreander and mint leaves, bean sprouts, and chili pepers so you can adjust the flavor of your soups . You can also order pho with chicken broth, and if you're daring, you can also order chicken organs like heart, liver, etc. They have a small kitchen in the back, and they can cook every thing as you ordered. Their sandwiches are much better than Subway's or Grab n Go's. Also made to order. Their egg rolls are are also first rate. I especially liked the pork. I suggest ordering other drinks besides sodas, they do not have a soda fountain, so they will bring you a can of soda which costs $1.00 Their Vietnamese espresso is really potent. They also have my favorites, young coconut juice,and thai iced tea w/ boba. Yea, they have boba drinks, or as my Grandma would say,"Bobah?, Aiiy soos, dats djast sago!!".hehe I gave them 5 stars because of the excellent customer service we've received from each visit. This place is owned by 2 young brothers, John and David, and they are extremely nice. They work the front and also serve. Maggots and caterpillars in their food, we had 2 adults and four kids, this guy has the nerve to charge a gratuity fee and say he won't take it off. I spend most of the time removing the fat from the meat instead of eating my soup. They also have buffet style selections which are 'okay'. Probably the best thing I've had here is the Thai tea. I had an early bird dinner here with my Mom this afternoon and we both looooved our meal! I just read the reviews from the others about this place and they were right on the money about everything. There was only another table of customers there when we rolled in, but then again it was 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon. The server greeted us with a smile and provided us with an outstanding level of customer service as we dined. We started off with the fresh spring rolls, that came out quickly and the peanut sauce it came with was really good and tasty. It doesn't get any fresher than this. Then we shared a small bowl of fully cooked beef pho. Man, this really hit the spot, I think my knees buckled from the first slurp I took, it was delicious!!! We weren't that hungry, so a few minutes later came our TWO dishes of the grilled beef rice plate. We both didn't come up for air, it was that tasty! The slices of beef were thinly sliced and easy to cut with a fork. It was marinated with the best concoction they have back in their kitchen. The portion was perfect and I enjoyed the dipping sauce and the salad that came with shavings of carrots and daikon. Needless to say, we left there two happy women. We later found out that our server happened to be the owner. We chatted with him for a little bit and found out he's looking at opening another location in the South Bay. I live in the South Bay, so you can imagine how my heart fluttered when he mentioned that. I know of two good pho places in the South Bay (east of the 805), but he will give them a run for their money if he decides to open one up soon, it will be THE PHO place to dine at.
