This location is definitely a glow-up compared to the one on El Cajon--beautiful wall art, a big skylight, and stylish decor that makes it feel fresh and inviting. The service at this location is also better compared to the El Cajon location. The egg rolls came out fast, hot, crispy, and honestly the star of the table. The chicken steamed bun was perfectly seasoned, but the grilled shrimp spring rolls were skippable. Firecracker shrimp? A little too fired--overcooked and greasy. Stopped by Ca Dao in Mission Valley for lunch after a Costco run on a Sunday afternoon. This was our first time at this location after having been at other Ca Dao spots. The space is nicely done with high ceilings and a breezy outdoor patio. Despite it being not very busy, we got our orders in after an unnecessary long wait because the 3 wait-staff couldn't break away from their on-going chat. Delivery was a bit amusing as well when a robot-waiter transported our bowls over while a staff member slowly followed behind it, which honestly took longer than just carrying them over directly... but hey, something different. My mom and I had to get something to eat and my brother and his family had tried this place before and we hadn't so this was the best time to do it since I had to wait for my car to get tires replaced at the Costco in the same shopping center. From the entrance, it seemed, at least to me, that it looked more like a Chinese restaurant rather than a Vietnamese restaurant. It looks clean enough on the inside as well. One guy sat the both of us at a corner table right next to the outside seating, which looked like a mess that hadn't been touched since maybe when COVID was raging? Mom ordered some sort of chicken and tofu soup while I ordered bun with grilled ribeye meat and grilled shrimp. It was all brought to us by an automated waiter with trays. I liked how tender the meat was. I didn't like that there were only five shrimps. And there was somehow A LOT of bean sprouts in the large portioned bowl. It ate okay. The service is fast, everyone here is so polite and friendly and the food and drinks are brought out promptly. I have visited twice, once last week and this week. I was never a big fan of pho, I tried it once before elsewhere and did not want to try it again until now coming to Pho Ca Dao, which is why I'm writing this review. I selected the pho special n15 I believe, and I really enjoyed all the cuts of meat, the fresh herbs, the broth was very rich. I have been dealing with chronic back pain and other medical ailments and this Pho aside from being very good and delicious gave me a nice collagen boost which has really helped me feel better. I am a true believer in food holding medicinal properties but did not expect the nice relief I felt after visiting. I understand this is not by any means medical advice in any way, but I can only share my experience. I believe it is their broth and the skillful method in which they cook it that retains a nice boost of collagen and nutrients. Again, I am not an expert by any means but a satisfied customer. Also everything here I have tried; the spring rolls, traditional egg rolls and wings, are very delicious, topped off by a very generous pot of hot tea. Everything is very nicely prepared and the flavors are very clean. The servers are all so polite and everyone here really works hard to give you a nice dining experience. I've been to this restaurant several times and have never had a problem with their food, pricing (about $15-17 per dish), service, and parking. The place is very spacious and I've never had to wait. First guy just stares at us after we say we have an online order and has another guy handle it. They ask for name and then to see the order bc they aren't sure if it's ready yet and we were like ok that's fine and I go to the bathroom. I come back out and I'm standing waiting for my food and the guy comes up and says I think a woman came in here and took your food we don't have any to go orders rn ready for you. So now I'm confused bc when he told me this was the same time the food should've been ready so how does that work? Did this guy just lie to my face bc they forgot to start my order? Ordered online to go bc I had a time limit as well which got pushed over bc of this mishap - unsure why they didn't check who the give their orders out to but I also don't think that's what actually happened. Worker said a woman came in and said for my name specifically on the order and took it. The worker then just stared at me? Kind of like he wanted me to just leave and deal with it?? We knew exactly what we wanted: I ordered the chicken pho with extra veggies and some tofu spring rolls, which are listed under the vegetarian options on the menu. My husband chose a spicy soup with udon noodles that looked absolutely amazing. We also shared a Thai boba tea, which was delicious, with fresh boba and great flavor. The tofu spring rolls arrived first with an exquisite peanut sauce; we appreciated getting two servings of it. Service was very friendly but our meal was slow (c2 other parties who came after us served first). Mom had the buns with chicken but we think it may have been pork. She liked the combo but not the spice. And because she couldn't tell if it was truly chicken, she wasn't thrilled. I had the rare steak with noodles soup and it was uninspired. Didn't compare to others I've had. Noodles seemed undercooked, even after letting them sit in the soup, and flavor was flat. There is a lot of space here and it looks like it could be fun for groups. We've been to pho ca dao a few times now, esp when we need to make a Costco or IKEA run and this latest time I noticed a cocktail menu, maybe it was always there before but that surprised me. For $11, the my pho smash was pretty solid. It was refreshing and just enough alcohol. I ordered the raw steak pho and the broth was very under seasoned. At other pho restaurants o typically don't have to use any hoisin sauce, sriracha, or salt. The Thai tea also was not steeped long enough. On top of that, my friend ordered the chicken pho and got food poisoning. She's been sick all day today. Stopped by PCD after an IKEA visit to get a quick pho fix. Service was great, our waitress was very friendly and sweet. The price was reasonable. The pho was just ok. Broth by itself was bland and lack depth, but that's what sriracha and hoisin sauce were for ha ha. After a good about of sriracha and hoisin sauce, I managed to get the broth to the acceptable level and managed to finish the bowl. Regular bowls are not big at all, and I guess that's how they made the price reasonable, by reducing the size. Would I come back? If I visit IKEA again and feel like pho, maybe.
