First time visiting Avenue and it was amazing. First we loved the ambiance and the look of the restaurant, then we met the most wonderful waitress, Mary. She made us feel so welcomed and took care of us to perfection. Then the perfect martini and Old fashion. And the food!! From the clams casino to the bone in strip, the rib eye and the filet -- all cooked to perfection. The side sauces were great too. And the Best creamed spinach - top notch We had to top the night off with crème brûlée which did not disappoint! Had a wonderful evening with friends, the steaks were excellent, we had porterhouse, ribeye, and filet mignon. The service was friendly and adequate, seemed rushed at times, and missing at others. We were seated in the tavern section do to a party in the main dining area. Disappointed in the lobster and shrimp mac"n"cheese, was expecting thick mac n cheese with bits of shrimp and lobster, got more of a bisque poured over biting then baked, more runny than cheesy. This has the BEST food & service in the Ulster/Dutchess County area. The French Onion Soup made soups in Paris dim! The broth was beyond tasty, because the Chef used bone broth " home made!" The cheese is perfectly blended with the bread and broth and the onions are rich and thick! The bone- in "-pork chop was huge, juicy and so well prepared and the sauce was al I beautifully prepared reduction. Salad dressing delicious lemon red vinegar and tortellini beautifully al dente, filled with delicious meat. The service staff was attentive, knowledgeable, professional and just lovely women! My go to venue when up along the Hudson! This place has an incredible vibe to it. From the moment you walk in and are genuinely greeted to the end of the night hugging the owners! 2 weeks ago I found this gem with a friend on a Sunday evening while in the area on a state conference. Let me say there are steakhouses on Long Island that have an old familiar name and can't come close to Avenues! It's not all about steak! Seafood, pork, veal house specials a chef from the CIA! What more can one picky foodie say! Drinks were amazing and all of the staff treated us as if we were Royalty! I am looking forward to coming back because in my opinion, nothing else comes close to this congenial modern but old world personality restaurant. Must try the clams both ways, tartar and plain. My wife and I ate at The Avenue again last night in Saugerties, because it was a nasty night, and we didn't want to travel out of town. She had their Tortelloni which is one of her favortie dishes there, and I had their Zuppa Di Pesce Special. Fabulous, and easily enough for two people! Took half of it home. It came with a whole lobster cut in half, lots of mussels, and clams, along with scungilli, jumbo shrimp, calamari, all over a very good portion of spaghetti. I loved this restaurant. It's elegant and classy, with servers dressed in black and cloth table covers. And I didn't feel weird for wearing shorts. The servers were very professional, quick, and an extensive list of specials memorized. Their station was at the edge of the dining room, but they kept their conversation very quiet. The portions are huge. Another reviewer said the bread was meh, but I thought it was a delicious, definitely homemade. My steak was perfectly cooked, with a mountain of vegetables and a small salad. Had heard good things about the Avenue for the last year so decided to check it out as it was a special occasion. We made an early reservation for 5pm as we had skied at Hunter all day. Light crowd when we arrived as they had just opened for the night. The layout is cozy and we were familiar with the building from the previous restaurant that was at this location. Waitress offered us cocktails immediately as we looked at the menu. They had a nice local IPA on tap which we both got. Menu is pretty big with nice alternates to steak but their beef is the star of the menu. We started with a tuna stacker that was light and tasty and the drizzle sauce was spicy and a nice addition. We also had a shrimp cocktail with super dense and oversized shrimp. The cocktail sauce was spicy and flavorful and was on a bed of cabbage slaw. I'd definitely suggest the shrimp app. Knowing they were known for their steaks, I went for the ribeye and my wife had the larger of the two filets on the menu. Meals are served with a salad and a mashed potato and vegetable medley side. We added the asparagus as a side as well as sautéed mushrooms. Both steaks were seasoned nicely, perfect cuts of meat and cooked medium rare, exactly as ordered. The mashed potatoes and vegetable medley were nothing exciting but tasted fine. The asparagus were plentiful, cooked somewhere in between firm and soft which is perfect in my mind. Definitely recommend the mushrooms as an add on as they added to the beef experience. No room for dessert but I believe they had a decent selection there too. The steaks are a bit pricey for the area but well worth it as they were prepared perfectly and prime cuts of meat. Tips: Get a reservation as the dining room is fairly small and even less capacity with Covid restrictions. Off street parking available and walking distance from Main Street Saugerties Quiet atmosphere so I would leave the kids at home unless they are super well behaved. Not sure if there was a kids menu offering as we left ours at home. We were greeted and thanked by hostess and bartender on arrival and departure which was a nice touch. We were traveling from Canajoharie down to Montgomery and were looking for a place to stop and eat. I trusted your reviews and we stopped at Avenue... what an amazing find! Beautiful and clean place, staff is very friendly, food is incredible. They don't hide behind too much garlic and actually use seasonings to flavor the food. Cooked perfectly! Wines were very nice... we're about to embark on ricotta cheesecake for dessert. I'm confident it won't disappoint. And I have to say, probably the cleanest bathroom I've been in at a restaurant in a long time. Someone cares enough about presentation in every aspect of this restaurant and it shows. Wow!! So glad to see something back in Saugerties, and something so good! I recommend a reservation, because the dining room is small and the atmosphere lends itself to lingering. We went on a Wednesday night, and it was packed the entire time we were there - granted there was a large party (10-12). Apps were two orders of fried calamari - perfectly cooked, light coating, hot and delicate and OH SO GOOD. We also got the meatballs - those could be a meal on their own, and they're fantastic. The only thing we were a little surprised about was the bread (which was really good!) was cold. Our waiter (who was excellent) explained that because of the large party, our food may take a little longer, but he was going to stagger bringing out our bread, apps, and salads - and he timed it so well! I didn't find the dressing on the salad too salty, as previous reviewers did, maybe they heard your cries? Everyone got steaks except one that got the pork schnitzel - and honestly, I was jealous. The schnitzel was super thin, beautifully breaded and cooked with a light sauce. My baked potato was bigger than my filet and PERFECTION - super crispy outside, nice and fluffy inside. Again, my only minor issue was the butter clearly came directly out of the fridge. It barely had a chance to melt on my potato, but they gave me a giant bowl of sour cream so I was fine, lol. The portions are pretty generous for the cost, and there wasn't any complain from our table - everything was cooked as order, ALL of it was hot when it came out (no lukewarm veg and steaming hot meat, no cold potatoes.) Honestly, we were STUFFED so didn't get dessert but they have several options and we discussed coming another night just for dessert - and they said they're all house made!! The new decor is so inviting and lovely, and my husband and our friend (hefty gents) loved how solid and heavy the chairs were. We did not do steak, but the lamb rack, pork chop, and chix marsala, amazing. I had the lamb and would have licked the plate if we were alone. Drinks were well made, had booze but not overpowering. Staff were attentive and the meal did not take too long to arrive for a Friday night. The only negatives... the chairs were not super comfortable, and the cream brûlée (usually my favorite) was a little scrambled and not as creamy as it should be. Sorry, I am picky. Saugerties Covid cases are on the rise and having maskless waiters lean into my table all night was giving me a huge anxiety attack. Never going there again. The food was very good. The service was not. We came up to the area from Brooklyn to celebrate a special occasion. As a queer brown couple, we felt welcome in every other establishment in Saugerties except for this one. The server looked at us with disgust and was short with us every time she came by. We found out after the fact that our family bought a bottle of champagne for us which the restaurant completely ignored, charging it for them anyway. We went for the first time on a recommendation. The wait staff was great, attentive and helpful but not fawning. There's a big menu choice, so we had a hard time deciding. A small salad is served first which is a nice touch. One of us had the tuna, which was very good. The other had the chicken marsala with nice sides of risotto and sauteed spinach and tons of mushrooms and a lot of chicken. Sadly, the chicken was a bit tough--not sure why. Portions are huge and we recommend sharing or being prepared to bring home your dish for another meal or two! We had no room for dessert. The only negative was the bread, which was mediocre and the butter totally not special. But minor. And a nice place. Could not find the menu online because it was being worked on. Found 2 different menus with different prices eventually. When I called and ordered they didn't have what I wanted off the menu, but made it. The carbonara was so dry. There was no cream sauce at all. I think it is under new management. Menu has changed. Some items on menu were not available on Sat evening. Keyboard player/singer was loud so patrons' conversations were equally loud. I could hardly hear my dining partner! Many tables were empty at prime time and the prices are not high enough so they are adding a credit card surcharge.
