Why else to come, unless it's for Oktoberfest, right? I went to the Oktoberfest at Anaheim Brewery, which was less energetic than this one. You walk in and it's filled with noise, music and smells of bratwurst. Parking is a breeze. We were meeting a big group so they secured a spot for us. I got the weisswurst, which was a smokier bratwurst and recommended by the staff, with a side of sauerkraut and a beer. The bf got the bratwurst and potato salad. You get a lot of food for your tickets (it's a ticket operation system, where you can easily drop $40 on food alone). It comes out very fast though. The food is delicious and I finished my meal, sans sauerkraut. I also got to try the massive pretzel with sweet mustard (a new favorite) which was fantastic. We ate in the main tent where the authentic band was playing polka, the chicken dance and some other festive songs. Then there were a couple of contests (beer chugging and sausage eating). We were stacking our empties on the table while in amazement at some other folks who made fortresses out of plastic tumblers. The end of our night, well was weird, as there was an overlong medley of songs that lasted about 20 minutes and had 27 costume changes, along with a balloon act that is too hard to describe. It was odd, entertaining, yet fitting. There are other shops with homemade trinkets and clothes, authentic lederhosen for purchase and Oktoberfest Souveniers. Pro: Surrounded by old krauts, good beer, good starters, good happy hour. It's a hotel too! Con: Main course are not that great... Join a few people for the UYE, ordered food and booze, good time all around. I like the sliders and bread quite a bit, while others went straight for the curry sausage. The cream chicken was really the only things that we enjoyed from 4 main course dishes. Our server - John, was a good sport. Put up with us being crazy and asked a lot of questions on the German food on the menu, also made some exception for me on the happy hour beers. Kudos to John. Stopped by here for dinner and a couple of beers before the Ducks game. Sat at the bar as the place was pretty packed. The food was to die for. The Ruben was the best I've ever had, and my first go with potato pancakes, try them with apple sauce - don't ask, just do. yum. The customer service was phenomenal, from the bartender Xavier. Beers were giant, and fairly priced. This quiet little hidden gem just a few steps from Honda Center is definitely the place to have a couple of beers before shelling out 15 bucks a beer for generics at the Honda Center. First off, the people that work at the Phoenix Club, made you feel quite at home. They are fun to talk with (we shared some stories) and aside from the Tequila Sunrise I ordered after a long drive from San Diego, they recommended some of the tastiest German Beer ever. Came here for the first time for my birthday last week. The food was delicious but the service was lacking. Curious if they do anything for people's bdays, like free cake or something, but we didn't mention it was my birthday so I have no idea. Haha. I've oktoberfested here and at Old World in HB. This place wins it by a lot. Although the band and MC at Old World are great, at Phoenix club you actually feel like dancing. No empty dance floor ever! The place is a lot larger and so the lines are huge to get your beer and food (the only downside). However, the wait is worth it. Lots of food choices and beer choices too. Girls: grapefruit beer, hello! The pork cutlet and chicken are amazing. Haven't tried the brats. Potato salad is also good. There's a lot to do here. They have an area for kids and some sort of shooting range. Entrance fee is $8. A lot more tables and people are happy to share empty spaces with you when the place is packed. I hear on Sundays they have more food choices but haven't tried them yet. Anyway if you're unsure about where to celebrate this awesome yearly fest, you should definately come here. Here's a tip: buy tickets in advance and avoid the line. You can buy tickets Monday through Friday at their office. read more

It's not just for Oktoberfest folks! There is a restaurant and bar that is open year round. On holidays, such as Father's day, Easter, etc. They have a brunch in the ballroom. Reservations are recommended because they fill up. The food is spectacular. Check the menu. They usually have other events a couple times a month throughout the year and most of them are family friendly. Again, check the calendar frequently. This is a vastly underused place in my opinion. This is a huge facility that they never fully use. There is a giant ballroom with a stage and balcony. There is a ginormous tent outside that holds maybe a thousand people and they use that for Oktoberfest. There is also a huge grass filed, picnic tables, etc. And then there is a bar and a restaurant. I think the limitation is parking, but people can park on the streets around the place also. read more

I was told that's how it is in Germany so just accept it but unfortunately the restaurant is in the heart of Orange County so I think the lady needs to learn how to say hello and not be rude.... Oktoberfest!!!!! My friend had a birthday celebration and decided to go to Oktoberfest at the Phoenix Club. We got there a little after 6pm and the place was already pretty crowded. It was $5 to get in. It might be a good idea to get there early to find a table/drinking spot. It got really crowded They have a system in place where you buy food/beer tickets in increments of $5. Your food items would either be $5 or $10 and then a big beer (32 oz) was $10 and a smaller 16 oz beer was $5. This system is a good idea because you simply hand the servers either 1 or 2 coupons and don't have to worry about them counting out change or other money issues. The downside to this system is that you have to wait in 2 lines (to get the tickets and then to get beer/food). Also, if you underestimate your food and beverage consumption, you have to wait in line again to get more tickets. If you end up buying too many coupons, you either have to give them away or drink/eat more. The lines got incredibly long at around 8pm. Now that the coupon process has been explained, lets go over the food/beer. The food ranges from brats, potato pancakes, funnel cakes and other German style food. They have German beer like Spaten and also had Budweiser which seemed like a waste. There was also a band that did German folk songs, the chicken dance and what I was told the German YMCA. I had a great time at Oktoberfest and am excited to going back next year! read more

WOW!!! Thats so awesome! I love that theres a authentic German food joint and its a place that you can go to the bar and where jeans or go to the dinning area and have a very nice dinner. The bar has an amazing variety of beer thats so good, and I'm not a beer drinker. The foods kinda pricey (about $20 per person) but its so good. Everything here is delicious, including the Sauerkraut, red cabbage, pretzels (the best that I ever had) and the mustard that tastes like its home made, with a really nice tang. Oh how disappointed I was. I had high expectations, perhaps unreasonably so, and they were squashed. Best part was the beer was cold and delicious and there was plenty of butter with the bread. But the goulash was seriously lacking in the flavor department. The texture was good, meat was tasty, but there was no flavor at all. Like zip. So sad. So, so sad. Husband got the schnitzel and when it was delivered it smelled like a vat of butter sauce. Like we were at the movies. It looked good, much like the goulash but the taste was wrong. It was fried in butter on a flattop. It was OK tasting if you can get over the insane butter aroma and flavor. But nothing like the schnitzel I've had in Europe. Potatoes were good, steamed veg were quickly steamed and still crunchy. There was a prom going on so we saw strobe lights and heard dance music over the polka music that was playing in the restaurant. Overall I'll go again at happy hour for some beer, maybe try the pretzel or some other bar food or maybe some sausage but that's it. If you have the money to spare and want to try some tasty beers, go. But don't expect food like you had in Europe because nope. read more

This review is based on special events hosting and catering. The agency that I work for hosts these large special events once a year to create a mass memorial/celebration of life for organ, cornea and tissue donor families. The agency is a nonprofit, so were usually looking for a space that can provide some sort of light lunch or Derv buffet for around $25 a person plus plus. Typically were looking for a space that doesn't charge us for room space, linens, our table settings on top of this 'per person' price. We need a place that can work with large AV equipment so that we can show a memorial video, and a space that has a stage where families can be escorted onto stage and recognize publicly for their amazing gifts. At this center, we bring in our own florist for centerpieces and AV guy to do all of the sound equipment and AV set up, but other than that table rounds are preset up buffet style is set up and the service here is really great. There's a small entryway reception area to allow for registration. And the room can easily host 150 to 300 in table rounds. The stage is big and beautiful and could easily be used for some sort of performance. It has handrailing on the way up to help her with stability, but there is no ramp on and off the stage. They have a fantastic wooden dance floor in the middle of the room that could easily be used for dancing (even though this is not a part of our function). There are large white draped material from the center chandelier lined with mini white lights to help bring a level of elegance to the room. We ordered a meal of Swedish meatballs, chicken wings, eggrolls, mini quiche, sandwiches on crescent rolls, fruit and vegetable trays, and a dessert table. The food is not the finest, most gourmet in the world, but the budget is right. I didn't try everything, but I enjoyed the sandwiches, beautiful vegetable tray, Swedish meatballs and chicken wings. The guests that we hosted seemed to enjoy the ceremony as well as the food. The service was excellent. The waiters checked in on us and provided fast accommodations to our need for changing the floor plan. The only drawback that I see is that the room has sort of a German pub theme with a large bar at the back. You can see family crests around the top part of the ceiling. That takes away a little bit of the elegance. However, if you're looking for an event space that gives you some flexibility on price, we had a hard time finding a better alternative in the area. read more

Excellent buffet. I've been dining here since they built the new place. It's behind the Honda Center off Katella. A bit hard to find but well worth the effort. All food here is authentic German cuisine, in a beautiful setting. The staff is also outstanding. Even if you don't speak German, you'll feel welcome here. Sunday buffet is absolutely the BEST in Southern California. Salads, fresh fruit, toasted baked items are better than most breakfast buffets. But the real treat here are the Saurbraten, Roladen, and German potato salad and other similar items. Of course the carving station and omelet bar are excellent as well. If I go here before an Angels game, my only concern is that I'm too full for a brew and dog at the stadium! read more

Great place for live music and dance, defiantly a older crowd, but fun. Really like the Phoenix Club because it's not rowdy like some other places. Came here on a Sunday to celebrate what is an annual tradition, even though Im not German - Oktoberfest. In the past 2 years I celebrated Oktoberfest at 2 different places I have been quite dissapointed. First I went to Alpine Village in Torrance, which was just a complete mess with overcrowding and lack of assistance. Then celebrated Okoberfest at my sisters Church which was the worst Oktoberfest I went too ever - no beer. Thus decided to try the phoenix on a sunday with the family and was pleasantly surprised. now maybe cuz it was sunday but there was lots of ample parking - score. The entrance fee was rather cheap 5 dollars, though the food and beer and this was one of my few complains was rather pricey. It was pricing I would see at a dodger game. Spent about 24 bucks for a Schnitzel (for some reason I thought it was a sausage but its actually a fried pork chop) and saur kraut and large beer. The Oktoberfest beer was great no bud light here, but the schnitzel was just ok. However, I wound up splitting a bratwurst with my sister and that was pretty good. So next time I will stick to the brats. The one thing I did really enjoy was the show, I really enjoyed the band who were playing german songs they even played the Der Komissar song by falco and of course the chicken dance, which everyone including myself got into. They also had the audience participate ins some cool contests such as getting the single german gals race to eat sausages and having the dudes chug a stein of beer. - just good old fashioned german fun. As a plus the day I went they had a magician/comedian and he put on a good show. read more

My visit and this subsequent review are for the Bierstube, which is basically the pub section of the Phoenix Club. I found myself in the County of Orange, which is rare a occurence in itself but not any rarer than finding myself in European style brew pub in a remote business park off he 57 freeway. So yeah.. rarities aside... it's a unique place. Off the beaten path.. Offerings include a full bar, German Draft Beers and traditional German spirits and wines. Also, domestic beers are available as well. German grub is also available and damn near authentic according to some of the locals that frequent the place. I opted for the traditional pretzel and the potato pancakes myself. I was not dissapointed by either, nor was I dissapointed by the Oktoberfest draft beer offering either. Started off bad when we got there and they wouldn't let is bring in a bottle of water. How greedy and cheep are these guys? I protested and they said "they sell water inside". Pathetic. I understand people can sneak alcohol in a water bottle. It's a valid concern. This is my second year for Oktoberfest at the Phoenix Club. I definitely enjoyed it this year, but I had a far better time at last year's Oktoberfest. The beer and the food were exactly as I remember it... all very good tasting and the beer selection and quantity was good for the price. The big difference is there was a huge explosion of people at this year's event... easily 30-40% more (that is probably an understatement). I think by having the 2-for-1 at the door gave way to an explosion of people inside. Last year I remember there being enough tables to where you can get your food, sit down and eat without having to hunt for a table. Also, I remember there being a lot more kids last year running around and having a good time. I know what your thinking, kids at Oktoberfest? Believe it or not, last seemed a lot more family oriented and people were still heavily drinking but the atmosphere seemed more relaxed and minus the douche bags. I definitely enjoyed it better last year and I think you could also see it in the staffs' faces as well. The beer lines were unending and you see the staff was generally more stressed and not enjoying themselves like last year. Lastyear I gave the Oktoberfest a 5 star and this year, I have to give it only a 4 star because it was simply over sold. I say ditch the 2-for-1 to curb the amount of people inside and also long as you have less than a 50% drop in attendance, you will still be even or better at the door and both patrons and staff will have a much more enjoyable time. read more

The Phoenix Club hosts the second best Oktoberfest celebration in Southern California (the best being the Big Bear Oktoberfest). The last time I attended Oktoberfest at Alpine Village in Torrance, at least half the people there looked like they were out on parole, and acted like it as well. The beer tent was swarming with very large Samoan security personnel, and they were definitely needed to maintain order. A lot of patrons were acting out of control. A couple of dudes in the men's room got tired of waiting in line and starting urinating in the sinks. Classy. By contrast, The Oktoberfest at Phoenix Club is clean, orderly, fun, and just plain civil. After all, I'm there to party and have a good time, not defend myself against physical assault by some drunk loser. There are actually families in attendance with their kids for Oktoberfest at The Phoenix Club. While having kids at an Oktoberfest event around might sound like it seriously dilutes the adult "fun factor," it honestly doesn't feel that way. The beer flows freely, the band keeps playing, and everyone is partying and dancing. When Oktoberfest isn't in session, The Phoenix Club operates a good German restaurant year-round (including a Sunday brunch). So if you can't make it to the excellent Oktoberfest festivities at the Big Bear Convention Center, then check out the scene at the Phoenix Club. They do it right! read more

Our Association has been having quarterly luncheons at the Phoenix Club for many years. The staff for events, Ruth & Kim, are very professional and accommodating, while being extremely pleasant. Javier is the a great chef! He has creative dishes that are over the top from the usual, and we appreciate his creativity and the great service from Elan, Ernesto and Alex who are our usual servers. Highly recommend them for any event, large or small! I'm involved with another group, and had a committee meeting at the Bierstube Restaurant so that everyone could enjoy a great lunch and tour the facility for an event. All raved about the food and the venue, and the kindness of Ruth who gave the tour and knew exactly what we needed and answered all questions. read more

The Phoenix Club's catering dept supplied amazing food for our family event yesterday. They were ready on time for pickup, it was hot and packed so carefully that you know they've really thought this out. The hot was hot and the cold was cold, and they kept them separate and spill free. When I ordered, I was helped by JW, who made great food suggestions based on how long before pickup we'd be eating, suggesting foods that didn't need immediate eating over some that might not hold up as well after an hour. We got a selection of sausages, sauerkraut, potato salad, and yaegerschnitzel with mushroom gravy (was amazing). I was worried that it would be some generic brown gravy, but it was VERY good, and had a ton of mushrooms. My wife is a cookbook author from Bulgaria, and she was especially impressed with the kraut and schnitzel, which have extremely close counterparts in her home country. Oh, the rolls for the sausages seemed 'just baked,' and were some of the best rolls I've had. The perfect roll for the brauts and on the side of your schnitzel! My family loved the food and we plan to stop by the place for a meal and a beer sometime soon. read more
