Really tasty and delicate Asian desserts! Lots of goods made with durian including durian rolls and durian mochi, which is not always easy to find. Some more unusual things that I rarely spot being sold at stores/restaurants include steamed egg Chinese dessert pudding, which remind me of the ones my grandma used to make. They also have steamed milk pudding, and steamed milk with ginger pudding (strangely difficult to make), and a delicious mixed fruit tapioca drink. I wanted to try everything! Desserts are truly "not too sweet," highest compliment from any Asian parent, but still perfect for satisfying that sweet tooth. Fortunately or unfortunately for me, the prices of these desserts are not cheap, so I did exercise some restraint while I was here. But I can see why people from faraway place come armed with coolers to stock some of these desserts home in wholesale quantities. Very unique and delicious selection! read more

When she called to explain, her English was very broken so I could barely understand what she was saying. I asked if I could get something else instead of the mochi, and again no. Wtf ?!?! And there mochi sucks. It is honestly the worst I have ever tasted. They have different doors and the dessert place don't have seats inside. There are 2 outside if you can handle the cold weather. Our favorite is the fruit mix tapioca, black glutinous rice w/ coconut milk, and hk egg waffle. Sometimes we get some of the mochi options when we feel like. If you don't like super sweet dessert, this is the spot to go to. My usual orders are durian rolls and mango mochi rolls, but I tried two new items which were taro and coffee jelly. All the items tasted sweet but not too sweet I preferred taro jelly over coffee jelly though. The taro jelly has softer texture which makes you want to take another bite. The coffee jelly texture is uniform through out each layers. I feel that the durian items have been downgraded this year, it tasted like they add less durian. Located on busy Valley Blvd., there's some street parking & a private lot, which I haven't used because I usually manage to find a space out front. There used to be a Chinese movie theater across the street, & I can't remember if PD was open at the time, but most eateries around this corner (Valley Blvd. & Garfield Ave.) usually open to midnight. I've only been to this spot a couple of times when I'm meeting up with my bro, & preferred the South Bay location (now closed) because of the excellent service in the smaller shop (i.e. I can sometimes get the egg tarts hot). There's more seating here but it gets rather busy either as a stand-alone dessert shop or diners that carryover from the restaurant next door. And service is iffy... sometimes speaking Cantonese with differential acknowledgement helps, calling the server 哥哥 or 姊姊. IDK, but I seem to at least get on their radar to get what I want. We tried several of their desserts & drinks, but my family usually stick with: FRESH MANGO with COCONUT JELLY NOODLE (芒果撈河), FRESH MANGO & SILKY TOFU with COCONUT SYRUP (芒果西米豆腐花), MIXED FRUITS TAPIOCA (雜果西米露), COCONUT MILK & BLACK STICKY RICE CRÈME CUSTARD (椰汁紫米凍糕), MACARONS (馬卡龍), MINI EGG TARTS (迷你蛋撻). Even so, it's an acquired taste because it tastes pretty medicinal. Price points are competitive to this area, & it better be in order to survive in SGV because there's plenty of turnover, especially on this busy corner... even restaurants that's been around for 10+ years (which according to my marketing class says it's the going timeline for business survival) have failed. The desserts here aren't as consistent as the now defunct Gardena location, but I'm a definitely a fan of their desserts... just not this particular location. My go to dessert spot for coconut pudding(?) not sure what it's called in English. I also always get the Durian/Mango rolls as well. They're not real mochi and I think they taste better than the "mochi". Not much to say here though. I think it's a decent place that gets boosted cause of nostalgia points. Phoenix Dessert (in Alhambra) was within walking distance of where we had parked for dinner. However, some of us drove over and parked on the street, right in front of this shop. It's right next to their restaurant (which has a restroom). This dessert shop is more casual with a few counter seats indoors and a few tables and chairs outside on the sidewalk. This Almond tofu had more of a kanten texture and not as flavorful. I liked it overall because it was light and had fruits! Someone else ordered the Tropical fruit tea, so I got one, too. The good: I will definitely be coming back here to try more menu items. I tried the brown sugar boba custard jelly and a kumquat jasmine green tea here. The custard jelly desserts are plentiful here and come in many different fun flavors. I cannot wait to try more of them. I liked the accurate flavor of the brown sugar milk tea. It even had the boba inside. It wasn't too chewy and wasn't too sweet. The worker there gave me suggestions on what to order. My kumquat jasmine tea was perfect! I didn't even request any adjustments and it came out exactly as I would have wanted it to. It was strong in jasmine flavor, subtle in the kumquat, didn't have too much sweetness and didn't have too much ice. So their "standard" is less sweet than other boba places (which is perfect for me!). Their desserts are very unique and they even offer durian desserts! Slightly disappointed that the quality has changed over the years. I got my usual of the tapioca mixed fruit and I'm pretty sure there was a huge chunk of frozen ice, with half cup of fruit, and barely any of the actual drink. Still good, but a little sad. The mango rolls also came in a lumpy roll of just two, not the usual three. I seriously thought I got copped out and saw that that's how they're serving them now. & I finally got their egg tarts and although they were delicious, I found the ratio of crust to the egg custard was a little too much for me. I've been here about two times and both times I've tried the mango sago drink. I really like this drink because it's fun to consume!! It has pieces of sago and mango in a creamy, sweet liquid. It almost reminds me of mango sticky rice in drink form. It's really yummy and filling. This is a great place to pick up some sweets and pig out at home. The staff seem to always try and peddle the durian flavored stuff (lol) but it's the mango jello square thingys that does it for me. I can easily gobble it up by myself. It's not too sweet and a delight with the little pieces of mango in there. I'll also get the mixed fruit dessert that comes in a to-go cup. There's shaved iced, a variety of cut up fruit swimming in some kind of coconut milk concoction. It's definitely refreshing on a hot day! read more

Our group grew from five to seven for this stage of good eating so the more the merrier, especially the disparate selection of desserts. While I did not care for durian, at least I can say that I tried it. However, we also had cookies, mini egg tarts (really delicious) two types of tiramisu, cookies, durian rolls and mangoes in sweet noodles. Atmosphere: I went on a Saturday around 12pm and there was a lot of natural lighting. The place seemed pretty small inside but it looks huge outside. Somewhat clean place it just felt cramped. Service: Pretty bad. I think the three workers were having a bad day but to be honest I went with my grandma and mom (who are Mexican) and I felt like they treated us poorly because of our ethnicity. She did a great job being extremely efficient and catering to everyone ordering takeout and those sitting at the restaurant. Four flavored custards: This is a perfect little sampler platter if you want to try their different custards. Everyone in my family picked the white one as a favorite but I really enjoyed the one with the brown layer on top and yellow layers in the middle, it's really fruity. Green mochi: nothing to complain, it had a dark feeling that was barely sweet. Sweet Mochi is good, but if it's too sweet it can be overpowering, so it's nice that this was a really neutral sweetness level. I recommend it! Tara Flavored Black sticky Rice with coconut milk: perfect for a cold night like this. Extremely cozy and comforting, packed with flavor. We showed up around 10:30 PM & they were still open so we went in to check out what they had to offer. I grabbed the durian roll since that was the main reason why I had this place bookmarked to begin with & it didn't disappoint at all. The mochi was nice and soft while the durian was not too over powering. My nephew agreed! My nephew got the mango custard, which was very plain and flavorless. I guess it's just not my kind of dessert. The egg tart was just ok. I didn't expect much of it since it's probably been sitting in the box all day. Located off Valley Bl in Alhambra parking was tough mostly street parking. I actually parked in the back in the bank parking lot since they were closed. There is no seating inside except for a couple of bar stools along the window with a bar top like table. Outside there are a couple of tables and seats. I got the cookies which are similar to Russian tea cookies they were good. I'm not really a fan of Phoenix Desserts so I don't frequent these places. After a fine meal of hainan chicken and smoked duck pizza at Savoy Kitchen just a few steps away on the corner, Jamie W. and I were in the mood for something sweet before heading back to our hotel. We had never been to this part of L.A. before and were dumbstruck by the number of Chinese restaurants on this stretch of Valley Blvd. I can see why Asian families would spend a week eating their way through them.
