We really wanted pho while walking around on a chilly spring day in NYC. We walked 20min to get to this place and it was worth it! The restaurant is nice and clean and the service was lovely. We ordered pho ga (chicken pho) and the lunch special sushi which was 2 rolls and a soup or salad for $15. The sushi looked and tasted fresh and was prepared right at the sushi bar. The pho was hot and needed some additions of siriacha and hoisin but that's the point. It was SO good! And tonssss of tender chicken pieces. Went for a late-ish dinner and we were SO happy to have found this awesome place. We sat in the front of the restaurant by the window and it has such a great vibe. The staff was super attentive and friendly. We had spring rolls, sushi, pad Thai and mochi. Everything was SO delicious! We were only sad that we don't live there so we could go back weekly! The only thing I would change for next time is to sit in the back of the restaurant. When we were leaving we walked back to use the bathroom and they have the MOST ADORABLE decor in the back! I didn't expect their pho to be good cause they didn't look like a place that specialized in Vietnamese food. However, I was pleasantly surprised!! Their pho tasted super clear and not artificial (some places use just powders or some kind of sauce to mimic the depth of the broth which makes it super salty and bad, but the pho here tasted nice!) I've been to Phoshime several times and we always get the sushi. It was always average to good, but was fine whenever I was in the area. The most recent time I went the pieces of sushi and sashimi were SOOO SMALL!! There's shrinkflation and then there's the extreme version. We got both a sushi and sashimi deluxe, and I could have eaten both by myself and still ate a few rolls. The waitresses are very nice and I told her at the end of the meal and she said she'd tell the sushi chef, but then merely came back with the check. I'd rather pay more and get decent sized pieces, but the meal left me very unsatisfied. I don't eat the Pho so I can't comment, but I won't be coming back. read more

Today I visited Phoshime for lunch. It is a relatively small narrow place but nicely arranged. In the front they have a 7-seat sushi bar/bar and 3 booths and 3 tables. In the back they have about 12 booth/table seatings. I arrived right after they opened and sat at the bar. I pretty much was the only one at the bar during my time there. When I arrived, there were few people there but, when I left, the place was almost full, with the exception of the bar. I can't evaluate their other dishes because I stuck with fish. The hot sake I had was good and very reasonable for NYC prices ($7). In fact, overall their prices are quite reasonable. I ordered the sashimi deluxe which was 16 pieces of fish for $26. The accompanying miso soup was just okay. It did have lots of tofu and seaweed, but I have had better. The fish, although fresh, tended to be a bit grainy with considerable membrane but, for the price, you can't complain too much. The sushi chef added a few extra touches like caviar, sprouts and lots of mint, which was nice. I also ordered plum wine which was the type that has a plum served inside the glass. I am not fond of that type of plum wine. The service was very good. They had 1 sushi chef and 2 or 3 other people serving. All were friendly. I would definitely return to this restaurant, but next time I think I'll try the rolls or maybe one of the pho dishes. It is in a convenient location right off 3rd Avenue. read more

The pho was tasty enough. I liked that they actually use broth they cooked vs powder. the tuna was decent, except i didn't realize you could choose between sushi or sashimi and it defaulted to sashimi which isn't my preference. The reason for the low score was the salad roll (shrimp summer roll). It was completely unwrapped and split open. I basically couldn't eat it like normal, had to try and eat it like a hotdog. This is really authentic Vietnamese food. I stopped in for a quick bite after lunch time today and my daughter had the Pho Bo and I had the Cha Gio Chay spring rolls and the vegetable Gyoza. These were incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. Daughter really liked her Pho Bo, which is like a beef noodle soup, she thought it was perfect and the beef was cooked just right and was tender. *This is a review for delivery* Got their pho bo yesterday and had it delivered since I was too tired to cook! The pho was nicely packed with the broth and noodle separated and they gave a decent amount of beef and noodle! I believe there were two kinds of beef there, one is eye of round and the other one was brisket. I found a little odd that the eye of round was raw. I understand that's how it is traditionally eaten and I'm fine with it being raw if I'm eating it in the restaurant but with delivery, the soup may not be hot enough to cook the meat. I ended up microwaving the pho since the broth wasn't cooking the beef completely. The eye of round was good and tender otherwise. The brisket on the other hand, was a little tough and dry. I really like the broth as it had a lot of depth and was very flavorful. I rarely drink the soup whenever I have noodle soup but I actually drank quite a lot of the pho broth this time! One of our favorite places in NYC, ownership is amazing. The servers are so kind and great at their job. The food is soooo delicious (and I'm a sushi snob). A solid new neighborhood gem. The crowd outside was for the French bistro next door, who appears to have strategically taken over the sidewalk for the summer. I was disappointed to see how empty the inside was! After reading rave reviews about the pho, I decided to try it and my favorite noodles, the bun xao. Not fair to compare it to Vietnaam uptown, which to me, will always hold the title, bht the noodles were disappointing. The beef wasn't flavored, but the noodles were good otherwise - just tinged with that poor taste. I ended up switching my order from pho to Bo Luc Lac, another favorite from Vietnaam. Again, doesn't compare, but I will say, it was a solid order. I ate everything on the plate - the chips are great, sauce is classic, basil. The only complaint I have was the meat was cooked well done, not medium or rare. It was chewier than I'd expected, but overall, would definitely order again.
