I had such a great experience here a few days ago! Last time I ordered, I thought I got egg noodles, but it turns out they had actually given me rice noodles -- and my son ended up loving them. So this time I ordered egg noodles again, but when I opened the container and saw the actual egg noodles, I realized the rice noodles were the ones I wanted all along. I let the gentleman at the counter know about the mix-up (which was honestly on me), and he didn't hesitate to replace them for me at no charge. He was so kind and understanding, and I really appreciated how easy and stress-free he made the situation. The counter girl was also super sweet. There were two small containers of sauce in a basket near the register, and when I asked what they were, she explained they were hot sauce and asked if I wanted some. I said yes, and she gave me both even though they were the last two!! Ask yourself, when was the last time you ordered takeout and the counter person wasn't hella stingy? lol Amazing customer service from both of them. Came in around lunchtime and it was pretty busy. People waiting for their Togo orders and some dine ins. We were greeted by our savior Buddha . Had to give him a belly rub for good luck. The restaurant felt casual for sure. We ordered the catfish banh mi and pho with sliced beef and meatballs. The soup had a very clean and clear broth, the toppings and meats were very standard. Came here for lunch. The food & service was excellent. I ordered the grilled fish pho w/ egg noodles & a side of hot sauce. I never had fish pho before & this didn't disappoint. Very flavorful & delicious. I also ordered food to go for the family. Grilled chicken pho, fish Banh mi & fried spring rolls. I took a bite of the Banh mi & that was a damn good fish sandwich... This is a casual spot near Ashkenaz and REI on San Pablo Ave. We were catching a show and needed a quick dinner. The server was really friendly and helpful, and suggested several items to us. My veggie noodle soup was made with veggie broth. They currently serve beer (no wine), so I tried an interesting ube beer from San Diego. This place was a wonderful experience. We were very hungry coming in and this filled us up very well. The portions were great especially of the meat and noodles. Everyone's meals came out surprisingly fast. It is the kind of place where you order up at the front and get a number to sit down with. Finally checked this place out last Friday and it definitely exceeded my expectations! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered everything Thomas suggested, which was the fish pho, spring rolls, beef banh mi, and a side of pho broth to dip the banh mi in! Fish pho was fantastic! I loved the spicy paste they gave us on the side. The spring rolls had egg rolls in them and they were so good! The beef banh mi was a hefty size and tasted like lemongrass. I really enjoyed dipping it in the broth. They also have Pure Project beer available at this location and had a pretty solid selection of drinks. We came on a weekday for dinner and they were super busy with phone orders. We went to order and had to wait a little bit for our food. We got the pho and bun rieu. Hell yeah, popped in on a Tuesday, grabbed the house special and it was so good. The broth was amazing I didn't even really use any sauce as it was enjoyable on its own. The person that took our order was super nice and actually recommended the house special when we were figuring out what we wanted. Everything I've tried at Phosho has been quite wonderful, but the focus of this review is the grilled fish sandwich. I've ordered it countless times, and it never disappoints. Packed with plenty of fish and fresh bánh mì ingredients, it's enough for two good meals. The portion of fish is generous, and the veggies are on point. I recently returned from a trip to Vietnam, and the quality rivals some of the best I had there, like Madame Khanh in Hôi An. The bread, arguably the most important part of a bánh mì, is perfect: sturdy and crispy on the outside, yet it gives way perfectly to the fillings when you bite into it. The fillings don't squeeze out, as they do with so many sandwiches from other places that claim bánh mì on their menus because they simply use the wrong buns (too hard and chewy). As I'm a pescatarian, I've not had the chicken, etc. ones, but there's no reason they wouldn't be equally so. I came here after a disappointing experience patronizing nearby Pho Le, which had very few Vietnamese offerings. (The noodles I ordered at Pho Le were really good, it just wasn't the Vietnamese menu I expected given the name Pho Le!) The menu at PhoSho Dough is Vietnamese as expected, which came as a great relief. The quality also lived up to the hype on Yelp. The food and customer service were both excellent. My partner and I shared shrimp spring rolls, which were generous and fresh, with yummy peanut dipping sauce. I ordered a grilled pork and shrimp noodle soup (substituting rice vermicelli with egg noodles). My partner ordered a grilled chicken noodle bowl (substituting rice vermicelli with egg noodles). Both entrees were well-proportioned and excellently flavored and prepared. We both appreciated how many options the menu held for customization of one's meal (including the substitution of egg noodles for free). During our meals three different staff kindly checked on us to see how were were doing. The place is warm and welcoming. The art on the ceiling and walls added a nice touch. Their pho is ok. The combo didn't have all the meats and stuff that a normal authentic combo pho would have so I was disappointed with that but I get it bc not everyone eats tripe and stuff. I do think next time I might request less noodles - it looks like they offer an option of no noodles, so maybe they could accommodate that. Personally, I found it quite noodle-heavy, and my favorite part was the broth. So yum! It is an order at the counter and seat yourself kind of place - that could be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for. The only thing I didn't love was they had the back door open, and it was quite cold outside. It was ok while I was eating my hot soup, but not great for lingering over conversation, or if I had been eating cold food. In the old KC BBQ spot, I do like the offers as I live in the area. I did like the vermicelli bowl on a warm/hot day but I do wish the fish sauce it comes with was fishery. I had a side pho broth, it was solid and with some noodles and sriracha, it will be perfect.
