A huge shout-out to Tigon for going the extra mile to provide vegan catering for the funeral reception of my father. I had initially tried to cater from a vegan establishment. However, due to scheduling and resources, I approached Tigon, the nearest vegan friendly restaurant to Sunset Mortuary, to select a fully vegan menu. The food was delivered on time and packaged well. Everything was fresh, smelled and tasted delicious. As usual, the guests only realized there were no animal products because the host is vegan. Background: Parents were born in Vietnam. Wife is Vietnamese and I've been to Vietnam more than half a dozen times. I eat Viet food almost every day. Highlights: The viet coffee was strong, thick, sweet, and creamy, with what could be chicory flavor. Not always in traditional ca phe sua da but it was good and worthy of getting again. You'll get a good amount of caffeine with this. The atmosphere is pretty nice. Aesthetics is on the nicer side compared to even most modern Vietnamese restaurants. Letdowns: The bun bo hue lacked flavor. It tasted watered down and over-salted to compensate. It lacked much of the complexity a traditional bun bo hue has with the herb and spices. I'm used to a more brown like broth. This was a much more orange type of broth. My mother in law agrees that the flavor just ain't there. The special vermicelli that includes chicken, beef, shrimp and egg rolls was also a miss. The chicken was ok. Imagine a Panda Express teriyaki chicken but a bit drier and without a strong teriyaki taste. The beef was soft and not chewy which is a good thing, but the flavor was lacking. Needs more herbs. I would've particularly liked some lemongrass flavor with it. The egg rolls are smaller and has pork which is what you would expect but you didn't really taste the meat. It wasn't as crispy, either. I prefer a deeper crunch but that is a matter of preference. Some might dig the more delicate crispiness, but those at the table agree the flavor was lacking. The sauce was decent. Not overly sweet, some vinegar for balance, it was alright. The fried chicken with house sauce is fish sauce based, which I'm a fan of fish sauce flavor in general. But when it came out, the pungent smell was apparent and overwhelming. Not the one to prejudge before taking a bite, I gave it a bite and it was super dry. Like it's been sitting in the oven staying warm too long waiting for the sauce to be put on it dry. I've had chicken wings from the buffet that was better than this. And I hate buffets. Too dry, too salty, couldn't finish it. Normally, when food comes out too strong, we can pack it home and fix it, but this wasn't worth packing. You can fix flavor but you can't fix the dryness. There may be many reasons why the food didn't turn out well, but for all the misses and the few hits, I would not give it another chance. read more

This review is for their Bahn mi sandwiches. I ordered (for to go) chicken and pork and let me tell you.... It was the best bahn mi I've had in a long time. I can't speak for the chicken sandwich, but for the pork, it had this amazing curry like sauce with the pork, had all the veggie fixings and the French bread was perfectly toasted. Hands down, this is the best shaking beef (Bò Lúc Lắc) I've had. The beef is unbelievably tender, and all those rich, savory juices soak into the bed of lettuce underneath. It adds so much flavor and makes the whole dish feel extra satisfying. One small tip, I'd recommend asking for a bit more lime with the dipping sauce. The pepper-to-lime ratio leans pretty heavy on the pepper side, and I personally like a little more acidity to cut through the richness of the beef. The eggroll appetizer is also worth mentioning. They come out nice and crispy, and wrapping them in the lettuce with the dipping sauce adds a great contrast in texture and a fresh layer of flavor. Tigon is an unassumingly larger than expected restaurant. There is a lot of seating inside which includes booths and tables. The decor is beautiful! Love all the hanging blossoms, art, and wooden touches. Service was good! Mostly some teens helping us, and they did a great job checking on us. Definitely gives off a family run restaurant vibe to it. My friend and I both got the Wonton Soup and added Rice Noodles. It was standard. The broth was comforting and similar to pho broth. The wontons were filled but didn't have much flavor. But the portion was giant and we both had lots of leftovers. I'd probably try something else if I were to come back. As we sat ourselves in a booth, I was still looking around the restaurant admiring everything. We ordered chicken wings and spring rolls for apps. I had the clay pot catfish and my son ordered the beef pho. My entree arrived and it was very flavorful. I wouldn't say I loved the catfish- I've had better. I walked into this restaurant and felt like I was in Hanoi minus the 20hr. plane flight. The restaurant has a great southeast Asian, ambiance, a beautiful waterfall, w/ lots of seating throughout w/ booths against the wall. Loved the stir fried string bean dish and instead of the tofu/chicken/shrimp options, I added beef to the order. The dish was marinated in a nice lemongrass base, bell peppers, onions and chili flakes. The dish was incredibly tasty paired w/ white rice to soak up those delicious flavors. Although we enjoyed the prawn & tofu in clay pot, with the lovely coconut milk, onions and peppers flavors, the portion was very small. Not too sure if it was worth the $25 price tag. The vermicelli salad was the standard bowl of vermicelli noodles, mixed in an array of vegetables w/ the options of grilled pork, beef, chicken or prawns w/ a vinaigrette on the side. The food was good, the broth was light but flavorful. The noodles were chewier than the usual pho that I eat which was new. The meat was just as I expected. Also, it's a family business and they've got their kids working there/hanging out and we never saw an adult family member unless you include the young man son/teenager who waited on us. Several young children, obviously the owner's, were left to play at the back entrance unattended. Legal?? Food was so-so and expensive!! Service not great; suggest this place research what makes for good service. Also, there is an unspoken rule in the US that owner-operated businesses don't get tipped and shouldn't solicit them. I don't appreciate being misled on this. As owners, they have NO business asking for tips. Indeed, the nice young man/waiter SHOULD have introduced himself as a son of the house so that I knew I didn't have to leave a tip. I read the review where the guy shows his receipt where they automatically put a 20% tip on it and THEN charged him another huge amount!! I have had other restaurants do this to me and will not put up with it. Further, when the son of the house brought the bill, he asked US to bring it to the cashier. Why? It's comforting and perfect for the cold weather. I always ask for their chili oil as they don't keep it on the table. It's in the fridge. It's not spicy but I do like the flavor (I bring my own chili oil for spice) We also ordered the crispy shrimp rolls for our appetizer. That was really tasty. Fried perfectly and the filling had a lot of flavor. Not overly salty like some I've had at other restaurants. They serve it with lettuce, mint and this other vegetable that you wrap it with and a dipping sauce that went great with it. I would order it again. My brother got a combination rice plate. Came with a bunch of proteins (beef, shrimp, egg rolls and some other things I forget). I didn't get a picture of his but he ate the whole thing so I assumed it was good lol Service is always great. Servers are attentive and nice. You have to go up to the register to pay. The restaurant is pretty big with lots of seating and cute decorations. Parking is kind of tricky. No parking lot and during the day, street parking is timed. We came for dinner and we were able to get parking right in front. Very special location parking can be a little bit more difficult to find since it is very close to a movie theater where a lot of people already live for parking. But we got pretty lucky and parked right outside when we came here. Overall taste was OK I didn't think it was amazing. There's a lot of different options in the area Wednesday. This is particularly my favorite. Service was also pretty average. I think it's a very good place. When I walked through the door, I couldn't believe how much dining space there was... it was a mega sized restaurant. I stopped in around 3:30pm on a weekday, so there was no wait. Staff was quick to greet me and show me to a table. The menu is abundant! Lots of veggie options. I specifically stopped in for the crepe (with tofu), it was the size of the dining table (ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it was the size of the tray!). The crepe was a little too gooey, undercooked, for my taste, but the lettuce, mint, basil, carrots and accompaniments were super fresh, and that vegan fish sauce was legit. Most likely would not order this dish again due to unsatisfactory experience. The fresh rolls with tofu were some of my favs because the tofu was hot. Lettuce fresh and crips. Would order over and over again. I also ordered a side of veggie broth. Good flavor. Would order again. I thought prices were a little steep compared to similar restaurants. They also charged +$1 for tofu in the fresh rolls... no mention of it when I ordered, I just saw it on my receipt after I paid. There's also +3% charge for credit cards, again, nothing that is shared, I just saw it on my receipt. Inside is a little dingy in appearance and feel. I drive from FREMONT to Albany to visit my aunt at least once a month. Every time I'm on my way back home. I stop by here and order the E 14, the prawns clay pot. 5/13/26 My son made reservations for a party of 13 for Mothers Day. I stayed home due to illness but my wife loved the food (but not the party seating), and asked to go back with me today. The food is tasty with the exception of some tripe in our soup. I'm enjoying a top notch "craft" beer. Uh-OH. A couple of children emerge from the ether, running around and laughing. I am thinking- I don't bring my children to you when you are dining out and I don't want to hear yours now. I try to chill out and soon the noise subsides. bing bing bing -a second source of electronic noise hits my left ear. Ouch! Cooks radio? Cashier on YouTube? A television? I'm not sure of the source but the Racket makes both the mood music and the other noise indiscernible and annoying. I try to chill out. A server stops by and I tell him of the annoyance. He says "Oh. Ok." The second noise does not go away. We pay our bill and are asked if everything was ok. I told the cashier about the two sources of noise ruining the ambiance. She looks perplexed and says something to the effect of "Oh.Ok." Bada bing bada boom. On the way out, the source of the second noise. A child. This place had great reviews so we decided to try it. Friday night around 6:00 PM, we were lucky to find street parking just around the corner from the restaurant. The place was huge with lots of big tables to accommodate big groups. Our party of 3 were seated in one of the booths with nice wooden tables and benches. Craved wooden panels separated the booth. The booth tables were a bit shorter than the seats therefore it was a bit cramped. The booth panel on the side where my friend sat needed fixing. The panel tilted like it was going to collapse on my friend when they sat some other folks right behind her (so they moved the other folks to another booth). The food was good and tasty. We had the shrimp rolls which was crunchy and decent except it's more a taro roll than a shrimp roll. The tamarind chicken wings flavor was inconsistent. Some pieces were too tangy and others were sweet. The chicken pho was alright. The beef pho was good. The broth had a gelatinous texture which I didn't mind. The beef / grilled pork vermicelli bowl was decent. It would've been a nice mix to have more cucumber, carrots, and radish instead of just a load of bean sprouts. We tried the sticky rice with mango. The sticky rice was nicely presented except it was too dry. The fried bananas with ice cream was really good, which we all enjoyed very much. Service was disappointing. We had a hard time getting their attention. Everyone just hovered by the cashier area. The server occasionally walked by our table but would always look the other way so we couldn't flag them down. I've been to Tigon several times ever since my first visit to try their dishes. Their dishes are solid and at a reasonable price. The seating is open and they have lots of seating available, so I have never had to wait when I came here for dinner. Their food items are all solid. We enjoy their pho, their BBH, and they have a great combination rice plate as well. Their portion sizes are solid, and food is generally consistent in its preparation. The two times I tried to get a beer here, they were unfortunately out of the option I was interested in on tap. They do have a variety of drink selections however. Overall, Tigon offers solid Vietnamese food at a reasonable price. The service is average, but it is generally easy access to get a seat and the food comes quickly. read more

We got the beef and vegetarian pho which was clean tasting, straightforward, maybe not the most depth of flavor but it was good enough. My mom got a rice plate and she enjoyed the variety.
