Came here because I take Passport photography seriously. Yelpers didn't disappoint. Since the place I had my fabulous passport photos was closed, I needed another amazing alternative for my mom. The gentleman at the shop was friendly, funny, and PATIENT!!! I had him do 6/7 takes (it's all so fuzzy now) and he was just an absolute pleasure! He took all in stride and even made a really (really) funny joke! Ordered 2 sets just because, you never know, can be used for some visas :) I will definitely be back for all photo needs and will send anyone as passionate as I for passport photos! Oh! To sweeten the deal, he even charged me less than I owed because we were "nice people" I tried to offer more because I was a royal pain in the rear! My review is based on my passport photo experience. It has pained me to look at my old passport photo and I was determined to get a better outcome this time around. I searched Yelp and found this shop with glowing reviews on customer satisfaction and meeting the government criteria. The attendant was very professional & polite. There was a mirror available to check for any errant hairs and the like. I got to look at the photo before he printed it and I was truly pleased with the outcome. Based on the reviews I knew I had to come here to take quick passport photos. I didn't ask the male for his name but as soon as I arrived up the stairs, he helped me out right away. Took maybe six total photos and even allowed me to look over them before I finalized on one. It was quick. Waited about two minutes for them to print after having it taken. Sharing space with Remsen Graphics and they are very reasonably priced. I had videotapes transferred to DVD and the quality could've been better but the price and the speed helped. I would use again for items not so crucial. read more

I needed passport photos and discovered this location on Yelp. I'm in town visiting family, needed to run errands downtown anyway, and they had great reviews so I went. One (annoyed) reviewer suggested calling before going, because when they showed up at "open time" the employee wasn't there. That plus the fact that it had just snowed all over NYC, i decided to call, just in case. I called at the open time and the employee picked up immediately. Due to the snow they had limited hours (10:30 - 12:30), which were conveniently posted here on Yelp. Not wanting to take a picture that looked like a mugshot, I wanted to fully prepare - moisturize my face, put on light make up, do my hair etc - and asked the guy if he'd be there around 12, he said yea. Around 12 I still wasn't ready, hadn't left home yet, and called and said I don't think I'll make it in time. He said I'll wait to a little after 1. I should up at 1:05ish and there he was, photo ready! The spot is such a hole in the wall it's very easy to miss. The doorway is super small and barely noticeable amongst the larger businesses. You have to walk up a very tall flight of stairs to get to the studio (about 20-25 steps). He took EXCELLENT PHOTOS! He let me touch up my makeup before and review the photos before picking them. There were plenty of mirrors everywhere in the spot where you take the passport picture. The setup was small, but with bright white lights and professional lighting reflectors all around. My pictures were EXCELLENT. I would come back if I needed pictures for any reason, like headshots or some other reason. It all took like 15 minutes, mostly because of me adjusting, checking, and practicing smiling, and cost all of 10 bucks! result: PERFECT PASSPORT PHOTOS!! I tipped because they were so good! I am only reviewing their film development process. I traveled into Brooklyn from Queens to get my film developed. I dropped off a total of 4 rolls of C-41/color film and 2 B+W films to be developed today. I was greeted by Jay who was the one doing C-41 processing. They use a Noritsu developer and the prices are extremely good for the service. Jay has over 20 years of experience developing film negatives and their customer service cannot be beat. 2 of my 4 rolls of C-41 came out blank and I did not get charged for those rolls. Black and white does take a little bit longer so I would not be able to pick those up until next week. You pay after all the film has been developed instead of before and I have nothing but positive things to say about Photoreal!! read more

Perfect, professional and fast! I came in to get my US Visa photos done and did not want to risk getting rejected photos. After showing Jay (the owner of Photoreal) my poorly lit versions I took at a CVS, he completely understood my concerns and quickly snapped a few variations for me with 200% better lighting! I was thrilled, it was literally a night and day improvement (excuse the pun!) He printed out a couple copies provided them both to me, and even kindly gave me digital copies on a cd, all for the same price of the passport photos! Amazing! Even without the copies and CD, the value and the speed of the service is SO much better than your local CVS or Duane Reade. Do yourself a favor, save the headache of risking your passport/visa photo at a CVS, and just visit friendly Jay at Photoreal for a much better experience! read more

This place is the pits. I never walked out of business feeling like I needed a cleansing. First off, in this day and age of all digital, i would hope that anyone developing film is serious about the photos they took. If so, dont get your film developed here. The negatives were not cut (no time I guess) When I looked at the negs it looked like it wasn't washed properly or set to dry properly and it showed in the photos. Water stains on my photos, hairs, dust, etc. Disgusting treatment of my negatives. Im just glad these were test photos as I was doing test pushing 100 iso at 16oo. expected grain, not other types of artifacts (trust me I check) read more

Jay at Photoreal took excellent passport photos for us. We actually went to FedEx first the night before, but the photos were cut very sloppily (and looked awful), so we decided to wait until Photoreal opened the next day to try again. Jay was so sweet and nice, we stayed after our photos were printed to chat a little bit with him - and we normally don't enjoy talking to strangers. He has been in the industry for 25 years and he's so patient, you won't feel like you're getting "New York" service at all. Not only was Photoreal's price more competitive than FedEx's, Jay used professional lighting and camera equipment, and the photos he took were attractive and actually looked like us. He made a point to let us take a look and approve them before printing them out. If you plan ahead and go before work (they open at 8 am) or during lunch, you will really get much better service, pricing and photos than you could ever get at a chain store. Their website is very thorough, so I would recommend checking it out before visiting if you're planning ahead. Otherwise it's also fine to just walk in, they are very experienced and helpful. It is sad that photo stores are struggling to compete, because when you actually need an important photo printed (i.e. for passports) you don't want FedEx to be your only option! You only update your ID photos every few years! Don't get an ugly photo you'll regret. read more

It's amazing to find a local business that still develops 35mm and medium format film. Photoreal is really "unreal" in how fast they can process negatives, print photos, and scan images. They've since moved down the street to 165 Remsen. Great place for passport photos - $6.95 for two and everyone working there seems to be nice. (A much different experience than the photo sections of Duane Reade, CVS, etc., plus, they're a buck cheaper.) I was able to see my photo and request a second be taken before it was printed out. read more

Sadly they said they don't do Canadian passport photos. Apparently the passport office has rejected too many of their prints for being noncompliant with the regulations. Too bad, since they were very nice in here. read more

Great service. They helped me to ensure I was happy with how my hair and face looked for my passport photo, and were very quick to turn out prints. Normally an hour, they said "stay 10 mins, we'll do it now". And when one didn't cut out perfectly they reprinted them and gave me a 3rd photo for free read more

This location is convenient for an incoming photographer traveling to new york. prime location easy to get to. but the service was even better. prompt in their service the prices were fair for film prices. i actually left a roll of film in February and they had just called me back today to let me know that they still had it and were wanting to send it. i wouldnt have ever known that i left something there so for them to go out of their way, hold the roll, then call me to remind me just make everything better. the photos were things i needed, they even emailed me the images to kill the wait time while the delivery makes it to houston. all in all wonderful place to develop film they get things done fast, and they also have film for sale. thanks again. read more

I went to Photoreal to develop some photos & the employees were SUPER helpful & patient !! My photos were printed in no-time & the pricing was great ! The only thing I really hate about this place is that they close super early. & Heads up they do NOT close at 5:30. They close at whatever time they feel like closing .. Which is usually around 4:30 - 5:00pm. & if you want pictures printed they turn off the machines around 4pm. Most people work a 9-5 job and even when I leave early from work I cant make it there on time to print photos. If time is not an issue for you, then I recommend this place. Went here for my passport pics. Went to the original address on Remsen first because I saw that listed on Yelp for some reason. They had the sign posted that they moved to 52 Court St so I trekked back the way I'd came from (got off the train right next to the Starbucks at Borough hall). Went in and the photographer showed up, took the pics and printed them out in less than 10 minutes. All for a whopping 8.95!!! Price can't be beat. Pics turned out fine and I'll probably be back in 10 years for my next passport. read more

These guys really saved me today! I needed 9 photos for a Chinese work visa with very specific dimensions and they delivered in impeccable fashion. I got my photos within 5 minutes. They were extremely careful with the specifications and made sure I got exactly what I needed so that I would have no problems getting my visa.
