Great place for passport photos. We needed to get our baby's passport photo taken on Saturday and had struck out at two other Brooklyn Heights places. The shop was actually closed (closes at 12:30p on Saturdays - be forewarned) but the owner happened to be coming back to pick something up and was nice enough to let us in, turn on his equipment, and take the photo. And he managed to get our 4-month old son's photo right on the first try - not an easy feat! Contrary to what we had heard, you don't have to bring a white blanket for the baby's background - he has everything you need. You just prop up your baby on the stool and hold him and your hands won't be in the shot. Minus one star for limited weekend hours and a dingy space, but the owner was really nice and called it "serendipity" that he had needed to run back to the shop and could help us. read more

They shut all their equipment down before their actual close time so it's TOTALLY USELESS to try to use them if you work normal hours. I took off from work an hour early to get to this store before they closed, but everything was already shut down at 5:20! I needed some passport size photos for my passport renewal and for visas for an upcoming trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. I got great looking pictures. Lighting is very good. Took about 5 minutes for the drying. Went early so I was in and out. I told the photographer where I will be going (Thailand too but they are visa on arrival -no picture needed), he looked up the dimensions offered me 6 photos for $20 in case I need any at the borders. Not bad considering the drug store alternative of two pictures for 50% of what I paid for six. read more

Mr. Jay was very sweet and helpful -- when the first printout of my photos came out with me looking kind of pale, he volunteered to fix the coloring and reprint them for me. Went back for passport photos. Was quick and easy, even during a lunch hour rush. The woman who took my photo made sure to ask me if I wanted to fix my hair, etc. and let me look at the picture she took and decide if I was satisfied with it or wanted her to take another. read more

Jay in the photo department is nice, but the quality of work is low (as far as the 35mm developing goes). I go in to get film developed (only) from time to time, and I take the film home and scan it myself. I've probably had maybe 10 rolls over the course of 6 months developed here. The last 2 rolls I've gotten developed here have been negatively affected by their low standards. One of the rolls had a scratch the full length of the roll right through the emulsion. Every frame was pretty much ruined. The other one, when I got home and opened up the film tube, had crumbs in it. CRUMBS! I'm not sure if someone was eating lunch as they developed my film or what, but that is completely unacceptable. There were crumbs I had to try to get off the entire roll. Another thing is it seems every time I take film in to get developed, there is a different turnaround time and price. Sometimes they can have it done in an hour. And sometimes 24 hours - and it never seems busy in there. I was hoping this place was going to be a winner because it's the highest rated photo lab in my area, but from now on I will have to venture out a little further to some more reputable photo labs. Sorry Photoreal. Let me know when you guys step your game up. It's not worth the risk of getting my film ruined. read more

The owner, Jay, is a super friendly and sweet guy. I was there for passport photos for two countries and he knew exactly the size requirements. I was not sure how many photos I should get, and he offered me a discount if I decide to get more. At the end, I got a set of four ($13.00) with two different sizes and he still gave me a little discount. I am so glad that I read the yelp reviews and came over here instead of the one that was closer but with terrible reviews. Thanks to all the yelpers!
