I come to Eden often but this was My first time eating here and I'm so glad I came across this restaurant. It's not a large space so you feel really at home. The owner and staff were really nice. We were greeted and then automatically bought a green tea before we asked. We didn't mind If you want something else I think you can ask. They have a smaller selection of vietnamese noodle soups compared to the other restaurants in Eden center but I highly recommend if you are craving BBH! This is my GO-TO place for bun bo hue because of its authentic and S P I C Y broth, PLENTIFUL portions of meat, and perfect noodle texture. Note: I do always ask for the broth to be less spicy, so that is an option for y'all. I have not tried the bun mam soup, but my Vietnamese boyfriend has tried it and does recommend it. Did I also mention that they also give free iced tea (I believe it's called tra sam dua) to cool you down after a spicy bowl of Bun Bo Hue? One visit, we were particularly struggling with the spiciness and they gave us another round of iced tea! The price is not bad for a hearty meal -- around $11ish dollars per bowl. By far the best Bun Bo Hue in the area! When they say it's spicy, ITS SPICY! For the kiddios, you can ask for it to be less spicy and it'll still be tasty. Lots of meat and noodles and for the price you can't beat it. I have also tried the Bun Mam and the broth was strong with lots of fish and shrimp. The restaurant itself is very small but the workers are friendly (even to those that don't speak Vietnamese) The owners knows my grandma and family, so it's always nice to see how hard working they are and that business is good. My mom heard from friends that this place makes the best bun mam (fish noodles) yeah it doesn't sound that appetizing. Well it's $10 a bowl and it comes with rice noodles, two big prawns, two pieces of cooked fish and served over fish soup. You have to like this to enjoy it. My biggest mistake as I was going around hunting for Bun Bo Hue was not to ask a Vietnamese where's a good place. A friend bought me over to Phuong Hoang after I told her my never-ending search for Bun Bo Hue. We came slightly after 7.30PM and it was quiet for a weekday. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue (spicy). It wasn't as spicy as I expected but the broth was on point. There's a decent serving of meat ( pig knucles, and blood jello) I added more spicy sauce and shrimp paste? ( it's on the table with clay color). My friend ordered the bun mam (fish noodles) which was delicious and I'll have to come back and try it again in the near future. 2 giant bowl of noodles only cost us $20. One of the best remedies for a cold/flu is a large bowl of spicy BUN BO HUE! You need that spicy, warm, lemongrass soothing sensation in your nose, tongue and throat. The burning pain lets you know its working. I had it to go and the lady really packed it well. She even lined the bag with newspaper. Also gave plenty of noodles, herbs and a little piece of lime. She did not skimp. Also, gave a plentiful amount of MEAT!!!! Theres also them blood cubes which I'm not a fan of but it didn't taste too chalky or bloody. I was very surprised to actually almost enjoy it. I wonder is they prepare it a certain way. Now on to the broth. You know its good when the spicy burning is a CLEAN spicy burn. Most places use some chili oil and it tastes sort of like an oily spicy. Not this BBH! That broth was very smooth, clean, and flavorful with nice heft to the body due to all that collagen from the bones. It really was BBH done right! BBH == Bun Bo Hue if you can't figure that out. Their restaurant front is incredibly small! But cozy! Their decor is not meant to impress you. Who cares! When you make BBH that good, I won't notice anything else! The lady was super nice! Just a few tables make up this restaurant. I came for the Bún bò Hu; it was just mediocre. The menu is extremely limited, mainly soups. It's also cash only, which I am not a fan of at all. My boyfriend and I love the Bun Bo Hue (BBH) broth here. It is authentic and unique and SPICY. We try to eat here every few months because we crave it ALL the time. The shop specializes in BBH and does not have many other options on the menu which is completely fine because that means they spend their time perfecting the broth. Meats are lacking in quality, but the broth makes up for it. It is CASH ONLY and slightly hard to find. (When looking at the large parking lot from the main entrance, this place is inside the mall near the front entrance on the far left side of Eden Center). Bait and switch. Before I ordered I asked the ladies sitting inside if they serve drip coffee and the answer was yes. So since it was midday and I am in need of strong caffeine to lift me out of a slump I decided to order one for $3.50 per menu price. Came here for bun bo hue with my brother around 8 PM on a weekday. This place is a total hole in the wall and has such a small menu. I was told by my brother and his girlfriend to come here ONLY for BBH. Because we arrived to late in the day, the BBH was extremely spicy--note I have a very low tolerance for capsaicin but my brother (high tolerance i.e. can tolerate mango habanero at BWW) admitted that the broth was a little spicier than normal. The soup was served with a plate of herbs, shredded cabbage, lime wedges and bean sprouts. If the lady working asks you if you want tea, say yes! It dampens the spice (thank me later). The broth was very spicy but had strong meat and lime flavor, very similar to tom yum broth. Both bowls of soup came with slices of well-done brisket and some more unfamiliar and gelatinous parts. A little background: my dear husband had a longtime Vietnamese girlfriend back in his college days. Both my hubby and I love pho. I don't eat beef, so coudl not have their specialty dish (bun bo hue), so I got the fish paste stew noodle soup. We also got a grilled pork on top of noodles dish. I'm really struggling because I don't know Vietnamese food well, they don't speak any English at all. The sides they gave with the soup were fresh - basil, lime, bean sprouts. The sauce they gave with the pork dish was tasty, fish sauce based. They don't take credit card (there is an ATM down the hall). The soup isn't like Pho, it tastes different but good. It wasn't spicy, but I think their beef soup is pretty spicy. This is probably a really unhelpful review. I'd go back to try one of the other soups, I think there is another seafood one. This used to be my spot!! I would only go here for BBH. I usually get no spicy since I def can not handle the spicy one. But why only two stars? Dine in: Veggies are fresh. The place is a typical Vietnamese hole in the wall restaurant. Bowls are plenty big. Toooooooo damn spicy. But yet so good. I end up probably using a whole lime in my BBH. The soup taste great. To go: DONT ever take it to go. These ladies will get you. You bring that bbh home and it's bad. She probably gave me yesterday's soup. Made me so sick. Not once but TWICE this happened. We ordered the spicy bun bo hue, bun mam and bun rieu. The bowls came out piping hot and filled to the rim. The meat to noodles ratio was great and they didn't skimp on anything. We ended up rotating bowls to be able to try each dish. The bun bo hue has a good kick just the way the Hue make it. The broth is very rich and you definitely get the lemongrass taste as well. My fave is the bun mam. I can say I'm a bun mam connoisseur (lol) and this is comparable to a place in Texas that I'm in love with. There were lots of fish pieces and the broth was really good and hearty. On to the bun rieu. I'd say compared to the other two soups it is definitely lighter. I should have tried this bowl first because after eating such flavorful predecessors, this tasted too light and bland. But still very good. It had a lot of rieu in it but I can't remember that it had a lot of meat. Definitely come here for the bun bo hue and the bun mam. It's served in a large bowl with a side plate of extra veggies and lime wedges. Phung Hoang serves other interesting soups as well. So far we've tried the minced crab soup, and the grilled-marinated pork soup. The pork soup was virtually the same as the Bun Bo Hue, but with pork. The minced crab soup was sweeter and less spicy. Hoping to get stock up on some snacks before the storm hit the DMV area on Tuesday, a couple of friends and I popped into Phung Hoàng Restaurant for a nice, hot bowl of Bún Bò Hue. Bún Bò Hue is basically a spicy, lemongrass infused beef noodle soup. The one you'll find at Phung Hoàng is definitely one of the better ones the area: the broth is spicy, but not to the point where it's not edible, and the bowl you'll get is filled large chunks of beef, tendon, and some huyet, or congealed pork blood (which is more of a texture thing, the taste of the huyet itself is basically non-existent, masked by the aroma of the broth). Though I can't say it's better than the one my family makes (mostly because I don't get as much of the lemongrass flavor as I would like), the Bún Bò Hue you get at Phung Hoàng is extremely comforting, especially on chilly days like the ones we've been having here in NOVA. Be forewarned though, this place is cash only, so be sure you have $10 prior to purchasing your Bún Bò Hue (and maybe a few singles as tip as well, ^_^). This place is known for its bun bo hue, the slightly rich and spicy Vietnamese noodle soup with heaping amounts of thin slices of beef, tripe, congealed pork blood, Vietnamese sausage, and my favorite, pig's feet served with a plate of cilantro, shredded cabbage and raw onions. Bun bo hue usually comes with round rice noodles but I prefer mine with the thin flat rice noodles used in pho. Most patrons that come in don't even look at the menu and just order bun bo hue as they take their seats. The place is run by a nice Vietnamese lady with the help of an elderly woman, whom I assume is the owner's mother. The elderly woman doesn't speak English but is super sweet. If she discovers that you don't speak Vietnamese, she'll try to teach you a few words, such as water or tea as she brings it to the table. I've seen very few non-Vietnamese in the restaurant, each time we've been there we'd been the only ones. Don't let that scare you though, the menu has English on it and the lady that runs it speaks English. read more

Phung Hoang is my favorite kind of place to find. First off, you'd never know it existed if you weren't looking for it. Nested among a slew of other non-descript, unassuming stores and restaurants in a hard-to-find shopping center, you would never imagine that a place like this would serve such amazing food. On top of that, it's in the middle of Eden Center, which, to someone who's not Vietnamese, can be somewhat intimidating considering the language barrier. Regardless, my Vietnamese friend tells me he comes to this place for their claim to fame: Bun Bo Hue. And on a cold wintry day, it was indeed the perfect remedy. Upon sitting down and ordering, we barely waited 10 mins before all of our food came out. The soup was served nice and hot and had the strongest aroma of freshly grated lemongrass perfuming the air as the bowls were placed at the table. One sip of the broth and I could taste the flavor from the hours it probably spent stewing in meat bones. Their Bun Bo Hue also had a generous amount of noodles and meat, including some cubes of pork blood, which was a pleasant surprise for me. Now, in general, I don't handle spicy very well, but I thought their Bun Bo Hue had all the flavor kick of spicy with just the right amount of heat in it.
