Went today with a couple of good friends. We asked if two tables could be moved together since we were a large group, but the staff immediately said no. That wasn't the biggest issue, but the owner and staff's attitude was extremely rude. We ordered food, and while it was okay, I had a minor allergic reaction to MSG in my Bún Bò Huế, which was a huge negative for me. The worst part came when we finished our meal, paid, and tipped. As we were leaving, one of the servers/or a family member of the owner--chased us down and demanded more tip money because we were a "large group." Tips are supposed to be optional and based on service, not something to be pressured into after already paying. As of June 2023, there's none that comes close to Kien Giang Quan. This gem, located in the popular Eden Center in Falls Church is the undisputed king. Like many of the businesses in Eden, KGQ is cash only. I know... who carries cash anymore? I do...when I'm going to KGQ! This place is amazing. Usually, when people ask what is the best place to get XXX. People say you have to go to a certain restaurant because that's their claim to fame. At KGQ, it's more than that. Hands down, the best beef pho in the DC area. Their broth is so flavorful and their meats and noodles are cooked to perfection every time. I go here often with my roommate and every single time we go, he considers ordering two bowls...that's how good it is. As if being the best beef pho in the DMV wasn't good enough, I'm going to go ahead and say that KGQ also has the best bun bo hue in the DC area. This spicier cousin of pho has a more robust flavor in my opinion and is actually my favorite Vietnamese dish. It's my go to order every time I go to KGQ. Having the best beef pho and bun bo hue would probably be enough for just about any pho restaurant, but KGQ takes it even a step further. Tucked way in the back of the Eden Center is a quiant, unassuming restaurant that you can smell before you see. The pho broth floats through the air in the corridors beckoning you towards it. The restaurant itself has about 12 tables with a max capacity of around 32 people, and they are constantly turning tables over with people coming in knowing exactly what they're ordering: pho. When the menu only has ~12 items on it and 4 are variants of the same thing (i.e., pho), you know they can do them well. I love their pho tai bo vien. The rich flavors in the broth are at the forefront and they don't skimp on the meat, noodles, or veggies. White onion slices, mint, basil and green onions... the gang's all here! They make a mean bun bo hue as well. Another nice rich, flavorful broth that is a bit spicy on its own but can be kicked up a few levels with the help of some chili. The service isn't the friendliest, but honestly, I'm not looking for that at a legit pho place. This place was so hard to find that I almost gave up to go to any other vietnamese spot since there was so many of them in the area. I'm so glad I didn't. This is by far one of the best vietnamese foods I had in the states. They didn't have much on their menu, but that's also good because that means what they do have is what they specialize. After a night of drinking some friends wanted bun bo hue. Having been here before, I was more than happy to recommend this place to them. Inside to the back of the shopping center is a small shop. From the outside, it looks like just another one of the many other restaurants that you would pass if you did not know what to look for. Their menu is small and the service is not the greatest, but their food is worth checking out. We got the bun bo hue and the pho tai bo vien. The ingredients were fresh and they definitely did not skimp on the meat. The broth was flavorful and it was satisfying. I was hoping the bun bo hue had a bit more spicy to it, but you can always add more chili to it. Yes, I wish their menu was a bit bigger, but I would rather them do a few things great, than a large menu with mediocre food. Only thing I would deduct a star from is their service. Yum!! This place is so good! It's unassuming from the outside, so I normally would walk right by. Was brought here by some coworkers during lunch break and the bun bo hue here is so good. A bowl will set you back about $14, but the broth is flavorful, a little sweet, a little savory, and a nice balance of spicy. It won't leave you sweating and sniffling like some others will. Having sampled the chicken pho, beef pho, and the Vietnamese take on chicken and rice, there seemed to be an overuse of msg or some equivalent flavor enhancer (chicken or beef bouillion). How do I know? Aside from the obvious post bite mouthfeel (or should I say tongue-feel?), there was an unquenchable thirst throughout the meal and hours later. A truly remarkable broth takes time and infusion of several layers of flavor whereas I was flooded by a tsunami of umami, but nothing more. Went this weekend for a dose of BBH. The noodle soups are still just as delicious. However, there's really no COVID preventative measures in place. Employees are wearing masks and gloves, but we saw them wipe down tables with the same rag every table without washing in a disinfectant solution. This place may be hard to find, but it's located in the corner of the plaza that houses Pho Hai Duong. This place is a no frills, super casual place. I feel very comfortable coming in here and eating by myself. They're always playing Vietnamese food channels and music videos that I like to glance at while eating too. The Com Ga here is a great deal. You get 1/2 chicken with rice and soup. It's super filling and affordable. The Bun Bo Hue is also a great dish to get since it's very flavorful and is on the larger side. I was seated immediately. In looking over the menu - I will say that it is the shortest menu I think I've ever seen. Doesn't matter. I'm ordering Pho Ga! The bowl came out in short order - steaming away! I noted that there were more than just sliced pieces of chicken in the broth - their were whole chicken wings, and other bits of bone and cartilage with chicken attached. The broth was rich and amazing - incredibly tasty Life changing!! I'm assuming that part of the richness of the broth can be attributed to leaving these other parts in. I'm not accustomed to receiving my Pho this way - but no matter - I fished out what I could find - I found I had to be a little more careful in eating the chicken - so as to not eat some bone or cartilage - or pierce myself with a sliver of bone. However, the bun bo hue had a very flavorful broth, good textured noodles and tender meats. I came upon this place because my girlfriend's husband said that he was taking us to Eden Shopping Center. I've had some really good bun bo hue in NorCal and SoCal so it's hard not to compare.
