I am pleased to bring you another Daddy/Daughter Eden Center lunch date Yelp review with guest appearances from my mom and two sisters Kat and Kristina V. It was a random Thursday afternoon and for the first time in my adult life, all of my sisters and my parents had the day off without anything special going on. Amazing! My dad wanted to celebrate by taking us out for lunch at his new favorite spot in Eden Center (keep in mind he has a new favorite restaurant every month). By the time we sat down the whole family was starving (it takes a long time for four girls to get ready!) so we ended up ordering a lot of food: stuffed escargot, Bun Bo Hue, two banh xeo, a vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and egg roll, the congee special, and shaky beef. I sampled a little bit of my pop's BBH and was AMAZED by the flavor. Outside of my parental unit's house, this was the best I ever had. The broth was rich, spicy, and meaty. Add some stinky shrimp paste to that joint and you got yourself an unbelievable meal. Even my dad agreed, this was awesome! He is originally from Hue so he KNOWS his BBH! The shrimp and pork banh xeo was also a standout and came out thin, crispy, and sizzling hot. Even after a few minutes it still retained its crispness which is very hard to do. The coconut and turmeric batter was a delicious treat for my nose as well as my mouth. Amazing - - My mom ended up a WHOLE banh xeo by herself which is amazing since she is the only person in my family who never overindulges. By the end of the meal she kept making excuses for why she ate the entire banh xeo herself which only made us laugh more. It was really nice to see her really enjoying herself. Shaky beef was also great and came with lots of fresh watercress, onions, grilled peppers and lettuce. The stuffed escargot had a beautiful presentation and was made with chopped up snails seasoned with a load of Vietnamese seasonings and lemongrass and then stuffed back into a larger shell. The vermicelli and congee were ok, but I'd definitely recommend ordering something a little bit more exciting here! Apparently at night this place turns into a lounge that mostly caters to single Asian men looking for the next hot young thang....but don't let that deter you this place is the noms. I'm from Dallas and was in DC for a short trip. I was so glad to come across this place on Yelp and was super impressed. I came in on a 1:30pm on a Friday. It didn't look like they get a lunch rush because they're hidden inside a super market. You kind of have to walk all the way around for their stall number 17 because I came in at the wrong end. I ordered their snails in coconut milk because they are so hard to find anywhere. More common in Vietnam but hard to find in America unless you're in California, where the majority of the Vietnamese are. I knew I had to get it! I also had an order of their bun bo hue. I was honestly kind of scared to try out this restaurant, but I don't regret it! As some of the other reviews I've read, it is a little overly expensive. We ordered the oc ngoi appetizer and it wasn't really worth the (I believe) $9-10. It was still good nonetheless. The goi cuon was fairly good according to my parents. My mom was happy with her chao (rice congee, the fish one), and my dad was happy with his entree (which I don't recall what he ordered). I got the com tam dac biet (special). It's not called that, but it's their com tam dac biet which is basically "com tam - insert their restaurant name here-". I was a little worried about it not being that good but I was proven wrong. If you have ever eaten at Rice Paper, it's essentially the exact replica of their com tam dac biet. But wait, plot twist. It's BETTER! I always judge asian restaurants on their rice. Is it too dry or just right? This place's rice was ON POINT; definitely was not dry. I was immediately impressed. Overall, I was just impressed with the whole dish itself. I came here for lunch with some friends and it's a restaurant inside the Eden Center, so you have to walk through the indoor center and it's label is #17. The restaurant was clean and had plenty of seats. We were a group of 9 and we were seated right away. I tried the Noodle Soup that comes with fish cake, squid and pork along with some vegetables. The broth was delicious and the ingredients paired nicely. It also comes with vermicelli noodles and cilantro. I bormally like spice they I used some hot chili sauce to add but the broth by itself was good. I also tried their pork rice dish which came with shredded pork and eqq quiche with rice and radish salad. The dish was delicious and comes with a side of fish sauce. The waitress was prompt and you get iced jasmine tea as your water which paired nicely with the dishes. They are known for their noodle soups so I recommend you try their dishes besides the traditional pho that Vietnamese cuisine is known for. read more

The broth in the noodle dish was delicate and flavorful; not overly salty (as can sometimes happen). The conch had a crunchy texture to it and the crab was more of a crab cake. The shaky beef was flavorful and tender. A side sauce if you like it a bit more salty. The pasta has an interesting texture, kind of al debate but not really. With so many options to choose from out at Eden, I often forget that this place is a restaurant and is open during the day. I really should come here more often. They have an extensive menu with a nice variety of noodle dishes, rice dishes and soup dishes to choose from. You can count on consistent quality in the food and friendly fast service. Where other places sometimes skimp on portions they don't do that here. Everything is reasonably priced. I highly recommend giving this place a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how good the food is and you won't be fighting with an overly crowded restaurant for a servers attention. New restaurants are sprouting all around the Eden center, so the competition is high. But Hoa Vien Quan (Restaurant Hoa Vien) stands out. While tucked deeply inside the mall, it retains its crater-in-the-wall feel by neatly serving homemade-like, authentic Vietnamese rice dishes. I had the Com Tam Hoa Vien, its signature rice dish served with grilled pork and nuoc mam. The plate set-up was nicely done too. Gotta take note of that! Many Eden restaurants mess up their Com Tam grilled pork, by either being too sweet, with too much fat or too burnt. But Hoa Vien's thit nuong was grilled just right. read more

This is a review for mostly food. Atmosphere is bland and not notable. I have always had excellent service, and more so, since I am a regular guest. I have been eating here for a couple of years now. Their Quarter Chicken Roti (thigh and leg) is simply one of the best chicken dishes I have EVER had. It is transcendent. I am surprised at myself, but I have decided I like it even better than Bon Chon Annandale's soy garlic drumsticks at its peak ( before they changed to Chi Mc). If you love crispy, moist, super tasty chicken you will not be disappointed. Did I mention it is only $8.95 and is served with savory coconut rice and a small side of Viet style pickled veg? Also you can sometimes order their chicken wings with garlic fish sauce at lunch time (usually only available in the evenings when it turns into a Vietnamese hostess bar. These wings are kinda expensive at $15, but they are also freaking amazing. I strip them completely of every tasty morsel. If you are a big fan of Banh Xeo no restaurant I have found in the DMV does it better. In fact their Banh Xeo is better than my mother's ( and my mom is an amazing cook). Their Bo Luc Lac ( Shaking Beef) is always consistently good and served on top of a tasty watercress salad mixture. When I am starving I order that AND the 1/4 Chicken Roti AND Banh Xeo. All /i ever had here was the oc len xao dua ($22), its pretty good but the restaurant atmosphere is a bit shady, I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and 3 men who was looking thuggish turned and looked at us. My friend and I was tempted to walk away but I really wanted to try the oc. Later through out the time we sat there and ate a few more thuggish people came in all of them very load and intimidating looking. With the illegal activities that happens in Eden especially on that side of the mall I probably would just order carryout next time. read more

First time i came here. i came here for the oc len but was also impressed with the other foods. oc len was good but can need a lil more sugar. it was very good though. also ordered bun cha ha noi and chao long. got to say since i was raised in orange county and being a vietnamese, i am pretty picky with my vietnamese food. their bun cha ha noi, not as excellent as the one in orange county but very good compare to the ones i had around other places in eden center. it was very tasty. the chao long was very good. their portion was very good. service is nice. it is kind of tuck inside of eden. i would highly recommend the place. i would definitely come back to try other dishes. read more

LOL, one thing for sure, when you walk in and sit down, unless you're Vietnamese, all others are served iced water, where as the Vietnamese are served iced tea drinks...and it's not a speciality paid drink items one orders, I see the young kids are served as well. I don't see Chinese discriminating when they serve their teas to non Chinise people. read more

Listen up people! At first I was sceptical but boy am I glad I stopped by this place. I have never tasted Vietnamese food in this way. They are not your typical Vietnamese restaurant. They have some dishes that I have never seen at other places and it make you want to come back for more! The only thing is that they are open only at 5 pm to 2am, but it is worth it!!
