I loved the experience. Be warned they only accept Amex and cash and don't have a liquor license so if you want a grappa, you are out of luck. However, I work in a restaurant and I am still gonna give this place 5 stars. We had the specials, beef carpaccio and pappardelle with a boar ragu. The waiter, Carlos, suggested a great red wine (barbera d'alba) to go with the meal. It was perfect. We also had the burrata with speck and the green salad. Everything was amazing. Loved this place. I go to Italy about twice year and this adorable little spot satisfied all of my roman nostalgias. Very disappointed with our experience earlier this evening. The pasta dishes we received were lacking any salt whatsoever. These two dishes were not hot and tasted like leftovers. I say this because the vegetables were soggy and slimy. The pizza was quite good, but not as fantastic as the last time we came here for lunch. The service wasn't our issue, but the food. We tried the cheesecake, but it tasted similar to types you buy at the grocery store frozen. We took a 30min uber just to eat here because our last meal was simply amazing. This place is okay. The pizza dough was the best thing about the restaurant. The pizza was rather small, rather expensive, and didn't have any of the pop I expected from reading the reviews. The mozzarella wasn't adequately salted and thus tasted very plain. The tomatoes tasted like greenhouse tomatoes, none of that grown-in-the-sun flavor. I think that a 15 dollar pizza in the summer in the the NY/NJ area better have some freaking amazing tomato action (I mean we have awesome tomatoes in this area in the summer) Not sure if this was a mistake but our Arugula salad came undressed, when we asked for dressing just olive oil was dropped at the table, after a second request we got balsamic vinegar. Arugula salad is a pretty basic summer salad and is classically paired with parmesan, balsamic, and EVOO. Anyways this place wasn't bad, I was satisfied, my GF was not (she thought if she could ever get her family to visit NYC that her Italian uncle would have given the chef an earful in his broken italian-english) My summary is this place wasn't worth the money or the time considering the other proximal options. My husband and I came here on a cold January evening and it was very cozy. The communal tables give it a rustic vibe and the servers were attentive. My husband and I shared a pizza and a pasta dish. We weren't still hungry, but probably could have eaten one more thing, maybe an app or a dessert. The pizza was really good. I'd give them 4 stars except our pasta orecchiette dish was disappointing. When I make orecchiette at home, the ears always stick together in stacks so I was excited to get to eat it and not have to go through the trouble myself. I had a tough time deciding what to order since the menu is not your generic everyday menu, but when I ordered a pasta and tasted it the flavors exploded in my mouth! The review of this place is good so we gave it a try. The environment is pretty good BUT not the service. We went around 7 and that time it wasn't that crowded so I don't understand why they can't serve us better. They didn't give us bread thinking we never eat Italian before so they didn't bother giving it to us. We also asked for hot water but the machine is broken. They asked if we wanted to wait so we agreed on waiting. We waited until the end of dinner and they didn't even bother asking about it. We tried their pizza. Compare to others, it's decent but not the best I have. For the price we paid for, they only gave a small portion. I ordered medium for steak but they gave me well done. Big disappointment. Imagine eating a very very dried up piece of steak, it wasn't joyful. For our pasta, they forgot to add salt :/ I mean what the .... its pretty basic thing to do when you cook. I was expecting something nice but it's a huge disappointment. Will never come back again!!! The waiters never came around asking us "how's everything" even though they asked the table next to us. Do you like to be cursed at by the staff? The one star in the rating would be for the food. I thought it was good. The service however left much, much, much, to be desired. Everything seemed fine at first. But after our meal, we had to flag a server down for another round of drinks, because no one came back to check on us. We figured they must of had a rush, so we did not make much of it. After flagging down a server at an adjacent table, we ordered a final round, and we were thinking about dessert, but the server just sat down the drinks and quickly walked away. This annoyed us a little more, but we figured we should probably skip dessert anyway. Finally, after finishing our drinks, we wanted our check and could not believe that nobody had still at this point come by to check on us or ask us for anything. We waited and waited for server and did not get one. We finally flagged down the server at the table next to us and asked him to bring us our bill. Still, we have to wait and wait. My wife (one of the most calm people in the world), finally has had enough and had to wait outside while I paid. So when I go inside to the bar area to settle the bill, I complained about the poor service. I was then told by the staff to "calm down." Nothing can inflame a customer satisfaction issue like telling the upset customer to "calm down." There is a reason the rule in customer service is the "customer is always right." Even if the customer is not right by your point of view, they are upset at the experience. Eventually, I was told I was lying about our wait for service, and the "owner" used profanity at me. I never used an swear word at all. I am honestly shocked. Rule of thumb, when a customer is unhappy, apologize and move on. If he is still unhappy, apologize again. But never, ever, tell him to calm down or swear at him. read more

Yelp, you let me down! Our meal here was only so-so, and the ambiance was pretty bad (At first it was loud country music, when we complained they gave us the other choice (Cuban music!) So that was a bit weird. But most importantly the food was just ok but definitely overpriced. The only issue I had was that they do not accept most credit cards (I think only American express... if that) so I had to walk to my bank to get cash. My boyfriend and I tried this during a major snowstorm. We were surprised they stayed open and they were so hospitable. The atmosphere is candlelit and cozy. The wine was good and the food was excellent. Unfortunately the experience was ruined when we were presented with the check. The gratuity was included but this was not pointed out. I'm not one to review my check normally, the only reason I caught it was because the bill seemed too high. This was especially insulting since the did not include an itemized bill. I felt like they were purposely trying to mask the built in gratuity and that was the death knell for me . I've updated my review after receiving a response from the owner.
