While Roey's a bit more cramped than its older sibling, it makes up for it with a front-row view of the wood-fired, pizza-making magic and casual neighborhood vibes. But you don't care about vibes. You care about carbs. So get the Lumache Truffle Fonduta to satisfy every Sopranos-induced craving for baked pasta you've ever had, especially if you like said pasta to be drowning in four kinds of cheese (fontina, gouda, mozzarella, and parmigiano) and black truffle essence. Or try the Burrata pizza, which miraculously holds up gobs of fresh burrata on a paper-thin crusts, the hallmark of a good pizza. Tasty spot for pizza and and/or drinks located in the heart of the West Village. It does get crowded, particularly on weekends, so making a reservation in advance is the way to go. Both the Burrata pizza, with creamy cheese and fresh tomatoes, as well as the Soppressata pizza, with a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, are great items to order. My friend and I wanted to get dinner in the West Village tonight (Saturday) but didn't have a reservation anywhere. This is something I'll never do again... but in any case we ended up here because they happened to have two seats available at the bar. Those two seats were crammed into a space big enough for one. We asked to move over to two more available stools because they sat me at a stool all the way at the end of the bar with disinfectant wipes and glassware in front of me instead of a place setting. Additionally the whole restaurant was stiflingly hot, so much so that we had sweat dripping down our faces. There was no airflow, and they only turned on the AC as we were leaving. We both got spritzes, aperol and hugo. They were refreshing in such a hot environment, but really watered down with ice, very weak, and practically half full. (The photo I'm attaching was taken after I had ONE sip!!) So I'm kind of annoyed to have paid $16 for a small cup of glorified fruit juice. Then for dinner my friend ordered the rigatoni a la vodka, which was quite tasty with a bit of a spicy kick. I got the cacio e pepe personal pizza, which was basically a white pizza with pepper and a delicious chewy crust. However it was very greasy, and I only ate 4 of 6 slices before I started to feel really queasy. Granted we did come on a really busy Saturday night in spring when weather (and air conditioning) can be unpredictable, but given today's experience I don't think I'll be back. read more

Both of these came in piping hot cast irons, there's no sleeve or anything on these pans and it burned my hand. Their cappuccino was not good either, would not recommend ordering that. Love love love this cute spot for happy hour. If you happen to be in West Village looking Carrie Bradshaw's apartment, Rory's is only about a 7 min walk. We stopped by on a Monday without a reservation and were able to get seated right away, although they did let us know that they'd need the table back in an hour. The happy hour menu is pretty small so you can def scarf down a pizza and a few rosemary spritz's in a short amount of time. Although there was a packed house, service was quick and efficient. Our pizza came out in under 15 minutes and was only $10. There's only 2 cocktails for the happy hour price of $5 and only 1 (rosemary spritz) is alcoholic. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Roey's was disappointing enough that I felt compelled to share it. The host with dreadlocks was extremely rude and unprofessional from the moment we arrived. Instead of greeting us warmly or attempting to assist us, he had an attitude that made us feel unwelcome and like we were inconveniencing him. Simple questions were met with short, dismissive responses, and his overall demeanor came across as disrespectful. What made the experience even more frustrating is that this doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. Based on previous visits and conversations with others, this appears to be an ongoing issue rather than a one-time bad day. Customer service is a huge part of the dining experience, and unfortunately, the front-of-house hospitality at Roey's fell far below expectations. The food may be good, but the poor treatment at the door left a lasting negative impression. Came to Roey's with a group of former coworkers to catch up. Even though I didn't love my last job, I mf loved the people there. It's important to keep up with people from your past, not only because they are good people, but you never know where they will be in 5-10 years. Few things get me going like a woodfire pizza oven. We got the following pizzas: Margherita, Il Macellaio (pep & sausage), Soppressata (Italian salami & fennel honey), and the Mushroom & Spinach Pizza. The top performer was easily that Soppressata. The italian salami, calabrian chili, and fennel honey worked well together like the 2004 Detroit Pistons. The lowlight was the Mushroom & Spinach pizza, as I really don't like mushrooms or spinach which I chalked up to a personal preference. But, it was the only pizza that didn't get completely finished, which is how you know it was middy-wap. The pizzas, other than the Margherita, were all above $20 a piece and weren't the biggest pizzas ever. I easily could have demolished one myself. Probably 2. So I came here while whole back with a good friend that lives in NYC. Unfortunately the day and time we came for dinner, I was just starting to become symptomatic from food poisoning that I'd gotten from lunch. I really wanted to enjoy the food but every bite was a weird combo of deliciousness, with my stomach rejecting it Nevertheless - I was able to comprehend the Margherita pizza and Brussels sprouts verdure that we ordered were extremely delicious! My friend was also really happy with it. The place has an "old school pizza house" kinda vibe, but it's low light and endearing, actually wouldn't be bad for a date. There are only two bathrooms, unisex. I felt bad because I spent a really long time in one of them having waves of nausea, and when I came out there was a decent line... so bear that in mind (you may have a little wait, just two bathrooms for a decent sized restaurant). They have so many customers vying to dine in because they have pizza on their happy hour menu, which is very rare. [As long you have ordered before 6pm, you get to snag the deal.] First, we decided to order MEATBALLS ($10), which came with 2 decently size meatballs. Nothing too small, but not big either. As this store's theme implies, it is made with rosemary. It does taste very homemade and they definitely use their own ingredients. So, I did enjoy it but it wasn't the "best I've tried" as the server hyped it up to be... And considering the price in regards to other options, I could skip this next time. Next, we of course had to try their ROSEMARY's SPRITZ. Almost 97% of the customers that are here for happy hour got the spritz, so I had to try. To preface, I'm not a huge fan of aeperol spritz to begin with and the rosemary add into this drink turned me off even more. I didn't love it like most people seem to do. But I do like the cheap price tag of $5 and the fact that it's very cool to drink on a hot summer day. Lastly, we had to order the famous $7 MARGHERITA PIZZA, which made us come here in the first place. The vibe inside is popping, it feels like a proper happy hour in NYC with tons of packed tables and pizza and drinks being carried all over. I had the $7 happy hour pizza and $5 beer. Those prices are AMAZING and hard to beat. I tried the spritz drink too and liked it even more than the beer. The pizza is pretty average as far as these wood fired Neapolitan types go, to be honest it reminded me of Alligator Lounge's free pizza . But not necessarily in a bad way! It's cheap pizza with cheap drinks and I'm really happy with it overall. I suppose my only caveat with Roey's is that you absolutely should go during happy hour. On the website it said HH was walk in only. We got there right before 4 and there was a line started already. Every Monday-Friday from 4-6 pm, Roey's serves up $4 beers, $5 Rosemary Spritz, $6 wines and $7 personal pizzas. The pizza is shockingly good, the rosemary spritz are strong and tasty and the service is top notch. I've sat at the bar in the back both times I've come for happy hour which I think is key. You have faster access to service and can order more pizza and happy hour drinks in the time frame you have that way to really take advantage of this deal. In addition to it being one of the best happy hour's value wise, the restaurant itself is also beautiful and well decorated. Dive bar prices, upscale ambiance. What's not to love?
